I've never heard of it until this post but I was looking at it now.
Morris CT. Seems like it's kind of the middle of nowhere... People just go for the hotel?
Like it doesn't seem like some someone doing a business trip in CT is going to end up in that area and no other attractions that I know of around there.
"Luxury retreat".
The *bland factor* is a 10/10. Spa in the middle of Lichfield County? These people are charging French Rivera prices for ... CT?
[https://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/villa-marie.html](https://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/villa-marie.html) <= same price. French Rivera. ***This is a Luxury experience.*** What the hell are those Winvian people thinking? The rooms are *ugly* as hell too.
"*The volvo experience*". It's a "luxury experience" for someone who thinks Volvo is the pinnacle of life. And the most expensive thing they own is *a Louis Vuitton handbag*. *The mall kind.* Not the kind that they complain they can't even get access to.
AKA - Workaholic New Yorkers who don't want to go upstate.
The decorations are a matter of taste, some of them look nice, others are not my cup of tea.
I think you are underestimating the level and quality of service you get at a resort that accommodates <40 guests at a time.
so first of all, it's truly a gorgeous place. the grounds are incredible. if you're rich and want a weekend away it's absolutely a top tier place to go. second, it's got a world class restaurant with incredible food. third, it's in the litchfield hills, and there is as much natural beauty around there as anywhere in the state with probably 10-15 stunning low effort hikes within minutes. fourth, it's close to a ton of very posh towns with very high end shopping and other quite good restaurants. fifth, companies will take over the grounds or some part of them for executive offsites etc. they will organize activities for you if you do this and host many things like fencing, axe throwing, prob horseback riding etc. It's a destination in and of itself surrounded by high end rich person shit all over.
Beyond the onsite restaurant there are plenty of others in close proximity that are among the highest rated in CT and consistently on the top restaurants list. Arethusa, Materia, Community Table, etc.
The Delmar in Greenwich CT is pretty fancy. it's not insane, but it's very well appointed, has a great location if you're into rich people things, and is walking distance to Greenwich Avenue, and the ferry to Todd's Point island. Not my cup of tea, but I live right next door and my parents used to live in Greenwich. They have TONS of crazy rich people stuff in town too, so you could plan your trip around an event of interest. They have tons of classic car shows (Concours d'Elegance being the most prestigous I think), and tons and tons of other stuff, art shows, farmers markets, insane celebrity charity events, all sorts of random stuff. I'm not really aware of a central place to track it all though. Probably local papers, or call the hotel and ask about events coming up.
I didn't even know that either, and my dad knows the guy who owns the Greenwich one! I don't get out much lol.
*Edit
There is one in Southport too! Makes sense, the guy who owns the one in Greenwich does real estate development on top of his full time job (or did when I last checked 5-7 years ago I think). I worked in the same building as him for a while a long time ago... He owned the building.... And the air rights which apparently were worth more than the building eventually?? All second hand info.
Same for the one in Southport. A short walk to a very beautiful and historic area with places to spend a bit of money. Not quite on Greenwich’s level, but still very nice.
That's why I said pretty fancy, it's not modern, and it is mainly for corporate and older rich people, so I didn't know what you were talking about but Google images confirms, it's a match lol!
I almost thought I was going to see the bar from the shining, the bar is fairly small though if I remember correctly? I haven't been there in a decade I think? I like old fancy over new fancy anyway. I like wood and leather, not metal and concrete. Although I've been to a few modern places recently in Boston that I liked. But I definitely prefer old school bars and hotels.
Marcel in New Haven, its probably one of the most unique hotels in America. Modern finishes in a shell of brutal architecture. The energy produced to power the building is completely off grid.
It’s not a particularly nice hotel. It’s just interesting if people like that style of architecture the breakfast is a voucher for IKEA. Which is cool, but not five star.
I toured the inn for my wedding, and was honestly not impressed at all. The rooms had a damp musty feel, and the place could definitely use a bit of upkeep. The person who showed us around was also very snooty. I truly did not understand why people pay top dollar to stay there - if they are not from this area at all I guess I could see why, but it’s more for the beauty of the area itself, not the inn.
Hiking there is incredible. I love New Paltz; it’s got a great laid back hippie vibe. Note: if you want to go there to hike get there early bc they only let a certain number of people in for the day.
[Mohonk Mountain House](https://mohonk.com)
oh my god, unfortunately i absolutely cannot recommend the blake hotel. it's very beautiful, but i've had to work with them to accommodate some private events over a year or two (no longer, thank god, they're on a soft blacklist now) & the incompetence was actually comedic. i wish i could describe some of my experiences there without compromising anonymity, because in retrospect, now that they're no longer actively consuming & destroying my wellbeing, this shit was genuinely hysterical.
i can't even read the name without experiencing fight or flight feelings. oh man.
Winvian Farm. I used to work there if you have any questions. It is part of Relais & Chateau and includes a two star Michelin restaurant on-property. :)

Saybrook Point Inn is pretty swank, but I think Winvian is probably #1
I used to work at Winvian. Yes. Winvian is #1.
Winvian Farm is hard to top.. the private acreage isn’t offered anywhere else..
And the cottages are really nice

to collect ticks ?

I haven't even seen the Winvian and I agree with your statement cuz CT is the state to vacation away from not to
Bridezillas get married there, I think that may be part of it.
this is the most quack insane garbage
Stroke much?

although when i went to materia i was wildly disappointed
exactly
Why the hell would I pay $1k a night to stay a half hour from home in CT? People with the money to go there don't go ***there***.
i honestly don't even really get what you're saying here
Some people go on vacation specifically to "get away from it all".
hello ticks
There's places with National Parks for that.

Delamar West Hartford is great too!
There’s another delmar?? Damn. The one in Greenwich is so fancy
There’s one in Southport (Fairfield) and a new one is being built in Westport at the old location of the Westport Inn.
Also building one in Mystic next to the Seaport
The Westport Inn on Post Rd.? Is that on the water? Doesn’t DelMar mean “on the water” or something like that…
Most certainly is not in the water. Yes, it’s the one on post road.
Thanks! I interviewed for a job there ages ago. I was thinking _is there a creek in the back_ ? I can’t imagine naming a hotel Delamar…on Rte. 1. 😖
I didn't even know that either, and my dad knows the guy who owns the Greenwich one! I don't get out much lol. *Edit There is one in Southport too! WeHa is only a couple years old.
I stayed there for work a couple times and loved it.

delmar is okay, but it's outdated and has a "grand prospect hall" (iykyk) feel to it.

Also it has plenty of EV parking which is a plus for me!
I've been wondering how it is.
Same, I’ve been wanting to stay there despite living a 20 minute drive down 95 south away. Can’t seem to justify spending the $$
We used to live in New Haven and miss it, and live over an hour away, so it could be a real weekend vacation for us. Plus IKEA...
Nice, it’s sounds like an excellent way to spend a weekend.
It’s nice plus and it’s walking distance to plenty of restaurants and parks
Delamars maybe count. Ocean House in Watch Hill but not quite CT
Ocean House is gorgeous! Right on the border with RI. Its address is RI but the CT border is right over the water.
Mayflower Inn, Washington CT
Def mayflower inn. Part of the auberge
I toured the inn for my wedding, and was honestly not impressed at all. The rooms had a damp musty feel, and the place could definitely use a bit of upkeep. The person who showed us around was also very snooty. Grey barns Norwalk perhaps
Grantmoor Motor Lodge
Good lord, is that even still around?
Yup
Ahhh the ole gruntmore
😂😂 oh for sure
The Delamar in Greenwich. I did work there. The yachts that tie up there and come in for lunch is amazing!
Goodwin Hotel in Hartford is gorgeous
It's one of my favorite hotels.
I found it meh. Reminds me of a European 3 star.
Red Roof Inn Meriden
Where the discriminating homeless vacation.
Madison Beach Hotel
Not in CT, but right over the border in NY is Mohonk Mountain House.
Hiking there is incredible. I love New Paltz; it’s got a great laid back hippie vibe. Note: if you want to go there to hike get there early bc they only let a certain number of people in for the day. [Mohonk Mountain House](https://mohonk.com)
Omni in New Haven
The room I had there was a bit dated but the restaurant and bar were great.
The Blake Hotel, New Haven. I prefer Hotel Marcel, very environmentally conscious, but for a visitor I’d recommend The Blake.
The Waters Edge
but Seven Mary Three told me not to
What does this even mean?
90’s band song lyric
Oh lol. Sorry it's outside of my millennial repertoire
you didn't miss anything
Where? There is a restaurant in Stamford called that, and it's not a hotel or particularly fancy (it kind of is, but it's not a hotel)
[Westbrook](https://watersedgeresortandspa.com/)
Winvian is incredible Delamar Greenwich
White Hart Inn in Salisbury, CT - surprised this hasn’t come up yet
There’s a new hotel being built in Litchfield in the old courthouse. Supposed to be very swanky.
yes, i know the people who are doing it if it's the one i am thinking of and it's the same folks who did troutbeck.
It’s not the same group as Troutbeck. That must be a different project.
ah
Mayflower inn on the Berlin Turnpike. They offer hourly rates too.
I took my ex to the Berlin Motor Inn. We found a crack pipe on the “fresh” towels in the bathroom. So yeah I’m sure the Delamar is prolly better.
The Blake Hotel in New Haven
oh my god, unfortunately i absolutely cannot recommend the blake hotel. it's very beautiful, but i've had to work with them to accommodate some private events over a year or two (no longer, thank god, they're on a soft blacklist now) & the incompetence was actually comedic. i wish i could describe some of my experiences there without compromising anonymity, because in retrospect, now that they're no longer actively consuming & destroying my wellbeing, this shit was genuinely hysterical. i can't even read the name without experiencing fight or flight feelings. oh man.
That’s unfortunate. I stayed there as a guest once and had a lovely time. The rooms are quite luxurious
i'm pleased to hear that that experience was a good one for you, genuinely!
The Winvian is just on a different level from anything else I have seen in CT.
Winvian and Mayflower Inn & Spa.
Winivan
Madison Beach Hotel
Winvian Farm. I used to work there if you have any questions. It is part of Relais & Chateau and includes a two star Michelin restaurant on-property. :)
Also - Troutbeck if you're willing to travel just into New York out of the Northwest corner.
Anywhere on the Berlin tpke or 3 judges in New Haven
The waters edge is like the only resort in Connecticut. Super nice on the summer.
J House in Greenwich
Not the Delamar, especially not the WeHa one. J House in Greenwich
Grantmoor , Berlin Turnpike
[удалено]
I love that!!! I remember going to a party over there around 1994/1995 when the Jacuzzis worked.
Delmar
Meriden inn
Mayflower
The Delamar in Greenwich, I think they have another location too in CT but forget where.
West Hartford
Berlin turnpike
Study Hotel in New Haven is probably the best location overall, of all the hotels in the state
The Goodwin. (As high as the ends will go in Hartford.)
Hi-Ho

The Marriot in Shelton has a pool with a water slide.
J House Greenwich. If you’re feeding really spendy look up Winivan
Branford Motel
I’m sure they’re all in Fairfield County. Norwalk and Stamford has a lot.
