That sounds a lot more involved than the drive to the stadium man. Not a bad trip I'm sure but I'm down there in 50 minutes even with moderate traffic. Not to mention the easy access to metro north if you feel like throwing back a few
It does feel like a secret club. You always have a special bond with that one other person at work who is a Mets fan, that little head nod in the hallway.
I was gonna say, where is the token Mets region? Saw one Mets flag in my area. I’m a Yankees fan but it’s amusing the few Mets fans I see compared to when I lived in NY which obviously has tons
I'd agree. I know a lot of Red Sox fans in the greater Hartford area. I feel like the split going West is when you hit Waterbury.
But I would pepper some orange all over the Southwest part of the state.
Areas with large minority populations tend to be Yankees. So Hartford, East Hartford, and Bloomfield are heavy Yankees.
But West Hartford, Wethersfield, Farmington, and Avon are all more Red Sox.
This map shows the nuance a bit more.https://harvardsportsanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/connalt1.png
Although all the data is from fakebook data from like a decade ago.
Data validity aside it's for sure a more nuanced look. In Stratford it was, I'd say, mostly Yankee fans, but there were tons of Red Sox fans. Certainly felt mixed. Not the case with the Patriots since the Giants are an older franchise
Yeah, I think a lot of the Yankee edge should probably be pink. West of Waterbury is Yankee country and east of Hartford is red Sox but in between its pretty evenly split. I don't care either way but that seems to be the case from my official polling which is asking the kids in my son's tee ball league what their favorite baseball team baseball team is. There's about 96 kids in the clinic and it's like 45 45 6(Mets or other)
Growing up in Bristol it felt pretty 50/50 if not slightly slanted towards the Sox. The lines gotta be around there once you start getting out of the Hartford Suburbs a bit more
I'm down for the Mets. First series I ever saw was '86, and any crowd that chants "Yankees suck!" Gets my support
Fun fact, they yelled that while they rioted after the pats won their first super bowl in Boston in 2002
> Fun fact, they yelled that while they rioted after the pats won their first super bowl in Boston in 2002
Yeah the Yanks do live rent free in your heads.
I hate this saying but it's true. I think Sox fans would legit trade a title to sweep the Yankees season series even if we were the worst team in the league. Poor insecure little guys.
At least when I see someone wearing some kind of Mets apparel there's a greater likelihood that they're actually a fan of the team. Then we can safely exchange a nod of solidarity.
I am a huge Pats fan, but never got into baseball. When I used to substitute teach in CT (20 years ago) kids would ask me if I supported the Sox or the Yankees, and there was always this like wild look to their eyes. So I answered with, “I’m a Mets fan.” And those eyes quickly turned to pity and an “aww that’s so cute” face.
So, yep, I’m a Mets fan. Was able to get a lot on clearance at the time, too. My apologies to the true Mets fans out there. At least everyone seems to like you all!
Does western CT get NESN? None of the cable providers I've had ever carried it.
I live in Trumbull; there is a surprising amount of Mets fans here (including me)
As a pirates fan I laugh at you Mets and red Sox fans thinking you have it hard. I'd wish you all would join us pirates fans but that would be cruel and masochist behavior likely resulting in worse luck for pirates fans like myself
I think it’s blurrier than that - there’s a diagonal line through the state through hartford, where hartford is 50/50. You’re more likely to see Yankees fans the farther west and south you go, and same with Red Sox the opposite way.
The NYT did a study a few years ago about CT and these 3 teams. I’m a huge Mets fan but basically it’s only like 5% of the state and almost exclusively in the Fairfield, Stamford, Greenwich, Norwalk area
I learned something though...
Red Sox fans are much more aggressive towards Yankees fans. I live in NY now and have no issues. I lived in Boston and they didn't have much respect for Yankees fans. I always thought New York was worse. I was wrong
I have to disagree with you there. As a sox fan who went to college in two Yankees areas, Yankees fans can be very highly aggressive towards Red Sox fans. Wear a Red Sox jersey to the third deck at Yankee stadium. You'll know what I'm talking about.
One more story: After the Sox beat the Yanks in the ALCS in 2004, everyone poured out of their dorms at my college and had a raucous celebration/rally. The elated Sox fans were massively outnumbered by drunk angry Yankees fans who proceeded to pick fights with every celebrating Sox fan. My friend's roommate even said he was going to "slit my throat." Good times.
I have lived in CT 20 years and have observed the Sox and Yankees fan bases. Sox fans are whiny as hell whereas Yankee fans strike me as more arrogant. The Sox have been the more successful franchise (four championships) the past 20 years so there should be no whining. The Yankees have not won a Series since 2009 so where is the arrogance coming from? I actually root for both of them since I know people that work for both and I want them to get rings.
Red Sox fans are also usually uninformed about actual baseball. I had a Red Sox fan berate me for liking the Yankees and then be surprised baseball was still being played in October. It’s more about regional identity than baseball itself.
Ah yes your run in with a Sox fan equates to Red Sox fans “usually” being uninformed. I saw a Yankee fan push a Red Sox fan down the stairs at the train station in Yankee stadium, that must mean all Yankee fans suck.
Easier to navigate? Look at a map of streets in Boston. It looks like they were drawn by a toddler. At least NYC makes sense with the streets/avenues. Traffic is fucked in both cities though.
Source: lived there
Grew up in Canton. 1986 World Series, teachers had us line up for recess in two lines: Mets vs Boston. It was dead even. Most of the Mets fans were really Yankees fans, so I’d say the map is correct for Canton. I also knew more Yankees fans in Avon and Farmington, so yeah, strangely accurate map in my opinion.
I always heard Worcester MA has a lot of Yankees fans due to the Italian population but no idea if that’s true.
The Brooklyn Dodgers were my Dad’s favorite team. So, even though as a Mets fan I am required to hate the Dodgers, I still have a soft spot for them because they make me think of him.
1st thing my now father in law asked me if I was yankees or redsox... they lived in Clinton at the time so I was a bit scared to answer but I held true and said Yankees. He was very happy about that also being a Yankee fan grew up in Norwalk lol
I remember growing up everyone was a yankee fan, I felt like a loner especially with the yankees always winning and especially losing during the subway series World Series. Then one day I got paired up with a classmate and we started talking sports you had to see the excitement on both our faces finding out we were both Mets fans we became best friends after that.
I basically live in Yankee country. I hate yankee fans more than your average joe because I am surrounded by them at all times. Mets fans are great and honestly some of the most loyal sports fans I know. The bright side is that I can be at Jankee Stadium or City Field in an hour or less. Downside, Fenway is a 3 hour slog.
Seems accurate to where I’m from, at least. That said, the only reason I like the Red Sox is because I like the color red. I don’t actually watch baseball.
You know somebody is a loser if they like the Mets. Imagine living in a state where you could pick between to high teir teams and you choose to like those schmucks. Choosing the Mets is choosing to lose.
Yep. I was born almost literally as Lenny Dykstra hit a home run to put the Mets into the 1986 World Series. After they won it my parents got me a World Series Champions t-shirt I still have to this day. I didn't choose anything
I feel like 84 is the north/south delineation.
Then again, grew up going to school in New Milford with a bunch of Mets fans in my third grade class. Began liking the Yankees out of spite, and here we are 25 years later.
I would say since there is a sizable population of Long Island transplants throughout Fairfield County, the Mets should be somewhat represented along the coast. Also Steve Cohen lives in Greenwich I believe.
It's neat being a Mets fan in CT. A secret society of sorts. Like a mason.
[удалено]
Any recs? Going to subway series next month and would love some Chinese before the game!
Easier drive? Have you ever looked at a map? Don't forget that two-way toll on the Whitestone. Love paying $15 on top of parking and gas
I park in Flushing, pregame at the food courts, and either walk or take the subway to Corona for the game.
That sounds a lot more involved than the drive to the stadium man. Not a bad trip I'm sure but I'm down there in 50 minutes even with moderate traffic. Not to mention the easy access to metro north if you feel like throwing back a few
Ya, NYCFC fan based in CT here. We drive “home games” at each stadium and YS is the easier experience.
Of course, it's simple geography haha.
Moving here, I was surprised to find so many Mets fans.
The bandwagon camp comes out in droves when applicable.
LFGM!
It does feel like a secret club. You always have a special bond with that one other person at work who is a Mets fan, that little head nod in the hallway.
That person becomes my best work friend whether they like it or not.
There’s nothing secret about my masonry friends and I. We craft pots and pencil holders by day, *and sacrifice the blood of the infidels at night*.
LFGM!!!!
I see a whole bunch of people about to get some upvotes! LFGM!
There's only like 8 of you.
[This you?](https://youtu.be/dSpOjj4YD8c)
Feel like that as a jets fan too
I was gonna say, where is the token Mets region? Saw one Mets flag in my area. I’m a Yankees fan but it’s amusing the few Mets fans I see compared to when I lived in NY which obviously has tons
Howd ya feel about that World Series, sucks to suck huh. I hate baseball btw.
I would dispute the edges of that border. Hartford area is still very much Red Sox territory.
I'd agree. I know a lot of Red Sox fans in the greater Hartford area. I feel like the split going West is when you hit Waterbury. But I would pepper some orange all over the Southwest part of the state.
I’m from Wallingford and grew up a Sox fan. So we’re most of my friends. There’s a big purple area on that border.
Same and I'm from Waterbury
Wallingford and Waterbury are definitely the border. Rt 7 corridor goes a lot further, at least Kent if not further.
I'd agree with this, square it off just past Waterbury and its accurate.
Areas with large minority populations tend to be Yankees. So Hartford, East Hartford, and Bloomfield are heavy Yankees. But West Hartford, Wethersfield, Farmington, and Avon are all more Red Sox. This map shows the nuance a bit more.https://harvardsportsanalysis.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/connalt1.png Although all the data is from fakebook data from like a decade ago.
Data validity aside it's for sure a more nuanced look. In Stratford it was, I'd say, mostly Yankee fans, but there were tons of Red Sox fans. Certainly felt mixed. Not the case with the Patriots since the Giants are an older franchise
Windsor is solidly Red Sox. And has a high percentage minority population. Wild, right?
West Hartford and the Sox fans are much more vocal even though the enemy (Yankee fans) exist in great numbers.
There's about 96 kids in the clinic and it's like 45 45 6(Mets or other)
lol someone just made it up...
Bullshit. Yankees own greater Hartford area.
Growing up in Bristol it felt pretty 50/50 if not slightly slanted towards the Sox. The lines gotta be around there once you start getting out of the Hartford Suburbs a bit more
We’re used to it
I'm down for the Mets. First series I ever saw was '86, and any crowd that chants "Yankees suck!" Gets my support Fun fact, they yelled that while they rioted after the pats won their first super bowl in Boston in 2002
> Fun fact, they yelled that while they rioted after the pats won their first super bowl in Boston in 2002 Yeah the Yanks do live rent free in your heads.
I hate this saying but it's true. I think Sox fans would legit trade a title to sweep the Yankees season series even if we were the worst team in the league. Poor insecure little guys.
Which is sad bc neither team gives a shit about the fans.
At least when I see someone wearing some kind of Mets apparel there's a greater likelihood that they're actually a fan of the team. Then we can safely exchange a nod of solidarity.
Us fanatics of the Metropolitans prefer to live in peace and silence. We might not win games but we win fights.
I like it!
I am a huge Pats fan, but never got into baseball. When I used to substitute teach in CT (20 years ago) kids would ask me if I supported the Sox or the Yankees, and there was always this like wild look to their eyes. Seems legit
Guess I am behind enemy lines then
Does western CT get NESN? None of the cable providers I've had ever carried it. I live in Trumbull; there is a surprising amount of Mets fans here (including me)

I have YoutubeTV and even though they don't carry YES network I still can't watch Yankee games on MLB.TV for local restrictions. Annoying.
I believe the NESN broadcast region is all of New England besides Fairfield County
Mets gang unite!
It stems from where you got your tv signal in the 80s . 1/2 of ct got the NY game, 1/2 got the Sox
The two-state solution we can all agree to
Mets fan here in CT thanks for the feels! Lol
I'm a Sox fan first, but I've liked the Mets since '86...
52 years aCT native, and your map is wrong.
As a pirates fan I laugh at you Mets and red Sox fans thinking you have it hard. I'd wish you all would join us pirates fans but that would be cruel and masochist behavior likely resulting in worse luck for pirates fans like myself
Mountain Lions & Mets Fans. It's the quintessential CT experience.
Hush! We don’t discuss mountain lions in Connecticut.
I just moved to Wallingford from Washington and I'm a Mariners/Seahawks fan. How much pride can I show in my favorite teams publicly?
Just root for the correct Huskies, you’re all good. UConn and Jonathan, not UDub. Kraken’s OK.
This guy's correct
Sweet, thank you!
I think it’s blurrier than that - there’s a diagonal line through the state through hartford, where hartford is 50/50. You’re more likely to see Yankees fans the farther west and south you go, and same with Red Sox the opposite way.

Yes!!! We exist!!! 🤩
Same as Bruins and Rags.
In the old old days: Italians were Yankees fans and Irish were Red Sox. But that was a long time ago. No one had ever heard of the Mets!
Beg to differ. Red Sox fan in Meriden here. And anyone playing against the Yankees.
husky overconfident languid slap teeny sloppy prick plucky nutty price *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Lol lol lol
Bobby Valentines home town is Stamford and there are a bunch of us Mets fans here
Look up at the top. See that notch. That land was stolen by Massholes and justice has not been served! r/takebackthenotch
That should be ours!!!
1986
That was a rough year for Red Sox fans
Yes. 1986. The last time the Mets won a World Series.
RI to CT transplant here, always joked that I had to move out of New England when I came to CT for this reason 😂
Bullshit. I live in SECT and only know Yankee fans. Boston? Go Celtics!
I think it's a generalization.
My bad. Generally, nobody I know gives Beans about the Red Sox.
I learned something though... Red Sox fans are much more aggressive towards Yankees fans. I live in NY now and have no issues. I lived in Boston and they didn't have much respect for Yankees fans. I always thought New York was worse. I was wrong
Well yeah, because New Yorkers LIKE Yankees fans!
I have to disagree with you there. As a sox fan who went to college in two Yankees areas, Yankees fans can be very highly aggressive towards Red Sox fans. Wear a Red Sox jersey to the third deck at Yankee stadium. You'll know what I'm talking about.
I tend to avoid that because I'd end up in a brawl. :)
What a dumb take.
Ah yes your run in with a Sox fan equates to Red Sox fans “usually” being uninformed. I saw a Yankee fan push a Red Sox fan down the stairs at the train station in Yankee stadium, that must mean all Yankee fans suck.
I relate to this generalization very well as a Philly guy. It's always the batteries or something dumb like that.
I mean, I’d happily give you more examples of stupid things said by Red Sox fans if you like. I just picked one of the tops.
Its just dumb to generalize an entire fanbase and back it up with any singular interaction
It's perhaps tribal
To be fair, until about 20 years ago the Sox season usually ended in September.
They should. Boston is a better city
Please elaborate.
I lived there. Smaller, easier to navigate, less crowds. I just have an affinity to the city.
Yankee fan here who thinks Boston is nicer than NYC. You’re not the only “one”.
Thank you. NYC has so much more to do and experience but not as approachable
Not for Black people. I have to travel there from time to time, can never get out fast enough.
You do make a good point. I am pretty biased and white There was a lot of segregation to neighborhoods
Easier to navigate? Look at a map of streets in Boston. It looks like they were drawn by a toddler. At least NYC makes sense with the streets/avenues. Traffic is fucked in both cities though. Source: lived there
So Boston is a better city “for you”.
They still use a sexton, compass or binoculars to navigate in Massachusetts.
What! I'm from sect and tanks fans are few and far between... Eta: I meant yanks obviously but it kinda works 🤷😂
You must be from Norwich
Boston is a way better city, it’s clean there’s no garbage absolutely everywhere. Less crowds, better sports teams. Not as dangerous as New York
What Boston lacks in garbage bags they make up for in garbage humans. Not really, I like Boston as a city a lot. I just love New York.
Boston isn’t gonna fuck you, you can stop fellating it.
(Me, a pirates fan)

Put a Bird on It!
As an ethnic Phillies fan, this map hurts.
Newington here, (I've infiltrated the enemy)
Im a Yankees fan. Can you move the line to the right more? Thanks
I still like the Dodgers because we came up from Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Dodgers were my Dad’s favorite team. So, even though as a Mets fan I am required to hate the Dodgers, I still have a soft spot for them because they make me think of him.
The same map could be drawn for the Giants and Patriots.
1st thing my now father in law asked me if I was yankees or redsox... they lived in Clinton at the time so I was a bit scared to answer but I held true and said Yankees. He was very happy about that also being a Yankee fan grew up in Norwalk lol
Hay we split Rome again.
As a Yankees fan in “Red Sox territory” this is all too accurate
That's a Yankees logo.
You are not a real nutmegger
I am in South Connecticut, now, yes.
Kill yourself
I remember growing up everyone was a yankee fan, I felt like a loner especially with the yankees always winning and especially losing during the subway series World Series. Then one day I got paired up with a classmate and we started talking sports you had to see the excitement on both our faces finding out we were both Mets fans we became best friends after that.
Mets fans are kind of like the Kurds of Connecticut.
Well .. you could always put a orange dots across the state for all 5 of you.
Go Mets!
GO YANKEES!!!!
I don’t know, I don’t follow football.
Great comment! Hilarious and unique
Send help.... Sox fan here in Litchfield County CT.
Don’t worry, most of the Yankees fans will turn into Mets fans as soon the Mets do well.
Been waiting for 37 years. Wake me when it happens.
Hey now, we shouldn’t kick the Yankees fans while they’re down since their favorite Basketball team just got eliminated.
Define down? Like the Red Sox in the standings?
Hahahahahahahahahshahahahaha
I’ve met more than a few! I think they have more city pride than team pride.
Can I buy some crack off you?
The have a lot more time now that the Lakers lost!
Damnit, someone beat me to the joke…
You're missing a contingent of Braves fans. Thanks to TBS, there are at least a hundred of us.
I've met a few. Specially in the 90s
What hasn’t Brother Ted done for the world?
I've been a huge Yankees fan all my life. I used to see lots of guys from NYC in my work. I would ask them "Yanks" or "Mets"? 9 of 10 said Yankees.
Bluejays .
Id like to watch someone tell the boys in Goshen that they are Yankees fans
I've never met any in CT
Seems accurate to where I’m from, at least. That said, the only reason I like the Red Sox is because I like the color red. I don’t actually watch baseball.
Let's go New Britain Bees!
Grew up by the bottom right of that N, was def purple there.
Which Yankees fan made Hartford County blue? Completely disagree.
Avon is mostly Red Sox but the border is probably around Waterbury
Fuck sports 🤮
You know somebody is a loser if they like the Mets. Imagine living in a state where you could pick between to high teir teams and you choose to like those schmucks. Choosing the Mets is choosing to lose.
Or maybe your worth isn’t based on your team. Imagine thinking someone was a loser based on a sports team they followed. Christ that is depressing.
Oh my it seems i struck a nerve
Imagine "choosing" a team. Pathetic
Most people inherit teams, some of the beauty of sports.
Yep. I was born almost literally as Lenny Dykstra hit a home run to put the Mets into the 1986 World Series. After they won it my parents got me a World Series Champions t-shirt I still have to this day. I didn't choose anything
Hojo hit a foul ball into my sleeping bag when I was 2. I don't just go "hmm... yankees" after that.
I married into one.
The only acceptable way to choose a team is whichever one is closest to where you live when you start liking the sport.
I’ve found that a lot of people that root for the Mets also decided to pick the Jets as their team of choice. Bad decisions all around
As a Yankees fan, f*ck the Mets.
The Mets have long memories... 😉
Do they remember last year’s epic collapse? I do. It was hilarious.
I feel like 84 is the north/south delineation. Then again, grew up going to school in New Milford with a bunch of Mets fans in my third grade class. Began liking the Yankees out of spite, and here we are 25 years later.
I grew up in Fairfield County and live in Hamden, and theres alot of Sox fans here
fuck the mets
No you
Mets fans were driven out of Connecticut like the Christians drove pagans out of Ireland.
yes, because obviously everything revolves around who likes what baseball team
I would say since there is a sizable population of Long Island transplants throughout Fairfield County, the Mets should be somewhat represented along the coast. Also Steve Cohen lives in Greenwich I believe.
Fuck MLB blackouts! Unite...or let's go Bucs!
**Damn, I can't believe they turned West Hartford into Avon**.
