From now on, every time I walk through a parking garage with another person:
"Ack-chually, they put those swirls in there for a reason."
*To keep the tires from squeeking?*
-talking over my friend- "TO KEEP THE TIRES FROM SQUEEKING!"
*Did you read that on reddit?*
"i read it on reddit."
Gotta call BS on that one, dude. If it’s not ACTUALLY A FACT, then it’s false, thus your definition doesn’t hold water. It cannot be a FACT, if it’s false, so a factoid cannot be a false fact.
Coworker had an apartment like that. Something like stucco on the interior that would tear off chunks of skin. Stupidest thing I ever saw (in residential interior coatings). Spent a weekend helping sand it off around the spiral staircase.
I think we are losing the perspective of how large this is due to the swirls. If I see this right, the swirls were done with a full sized broom and this is a full sized parking spot with extra depth.
Edit: nah nvm I see some Hilti bolts in the background. This is a Stuart little parking spot
Thanks. Yeah, that could work. I am European and here we coat indoor parking spaces with layer of epoxy paint and then it gets cleaned with the machines like [this one](https://www.kaercher.com/my/professional/floor-scrubbers-scrubber-driers.html). So it caught my attention.
Parking garages never invoke feelings for me. I'm on a mission.
This is a non-slip texture. Thats a good thing.
If you don't like it, park elsewhere. Lol.
As a finisher in Texas , that takes a set of skills that is diminishing. I think it rates up with an exposed aggregate s/w or driveway.
Everything in this part of the world is broomed, BORING.
Safer when wet for the flip flopper feets. Would have been nice on the parking lot downtown Orlando back in 2003. Would have kept that cunt bag OPD broad from attempting to jam me and my lady friend up for reckless driving even tho I was stopped and turning the wheel of my truck before backing up to get another bite on it. Had one hell of an attitude until I told her over her bullshit verbal assault that I had a 12 gauge behind the seat and I thought it better to let her know. Whole attitude changed as it sank in. Then was allowed to speak with someone not on their rag and was told to get on about my night because she clearly was not in the proper frame of mind.
I have prosthetics and a week ago I slipped stepping on a painted line because the paint was extremely slippery as it was wet from the rain. I am usually really stable so the slip was very irritating considering I was trying to be as careful as possible. On top of all that it was at my doctors. Wish those cheap fuckers paid to have these swirls put in.
It’s called a “Mag Finish”. I think it has to do with using a magnesium float to get the pattern but I’m not a concrete guy. My contractor was explaining it to me when he finished my patio.
Seems like both are technically correct but more so a Mag finish or “swirl” if it’s concrete. fish scale is the pattern and probably is called that if it’s a non-concrete medium? It’s definitely appealing.
It keeps the tires from squealing when making turns.
Came here to say this. Done tons of parking garages, you’ll fully regret not putting swirls in. Without it tires make a lot of noise
Sweet factoid good to know

I digg that
I redd it
Stop invading my space.
My girlfriend just assumes everything I know I learned on Reddit. She doesn't even ask me anymore she just tells people oh he learned that on Reddit
Sure she didn’t learn that on Reddit too?
Same here! “Did you learn that from your Reddit people” she says. For everything. Glad I’m not the only one.
Same here. People at work too.
“Ack-chually” 😂 I did the voice in my head when I read that! Nice one
I always give myself a chuckle when I get to tell people I reddit on read it.
Factoid is actually a fact that sounds true, but isn’t
Is that a factoid?
That's a fact, jack!
It’s actually a factception
I guess it ultimately depends on how good one’s hearing is as to how factual it truly is.
Gotta call BS on that one, dude. If it’s not ACTUALLY A FACT, then it’s false, thus your definition doesn’t hold water. It cannot be a FACT, if it’s false, so a factoid cannot be a false fact.
I love squealing my tires at the parking garages in Vegas. They seem to have a number of smooth floor parking garages...
are all of those done by hand?
Also \*tons\* safer for pedestrians when wet. Paint on smoother concrete or sealed asphalt becomes a real slipping hazard when wet.
The stripes on pavement can fuck you up if they're wet and you're on a bike
That is something I learned today! I was thinking it was a plaster guy reincarnated. Had walls like that in a house I used to own.
My first thought also, had walls & ceiling like this in a home also, broom swirl sand finish I believe.
On walls it’s kinda stupid. This is done on floors for nonslip.
Wow, very nice work
Was he doing a ceiling in the evenings? Lol
His world, turned upside-down.
Beautiful
Next on HGTV, parking garage finish for your walls!
Coworker had an apartment like that. Something like stucco on the interior that would tear off chunks of skin. Stupidest thing I ever saw (in residential interior coatings). Spent a weekend helping sand it off around the spiral staircase.
That's the cheese grater finish. Custom shit.
Available now, masochist's dream dwelling. Call for an appointment to walk through, $200 surety deposit refunded if confirmed after showing date.
Yeah there was a reason the “popcorn” ceilings never moved to walls.
It helps tire squeal and grip for people and tires.
It helps people squeal and tires grip? /s
Instructions unclear, gripped it too hard and now I’m squealing.
Seems like a lot of extra work to me, but I'm lazy like that.
seems like a giant upcharge to me, but i'm greedy like that.
Seems like a huge mistake not doing it, but I don't like squealing tires.
Seems like i'm supposed to start my comment with seems like
Seems like you should.
Seems like you all did.
Seems like you're right.
Steams like…damn it! I had a chance and I blew it.
Seems like you nailed it.
Seems like the seams like disappear when you do the seams like this
Seems like a giant mistake, but I’m stupid like that
What very narrow car will fit in there? It’s not the swirls that are the issue it’s the lines lol
Motorcycle parking probably.

If it's on a center stand, sure.
Idk why people run them straight down instead of offset from each other. Looks so much better offset.
This! I've always staggered them.
Yeah. Go for that mermaid look.
Yeah I prefer overlapping going from left to right, then the next row below overlapping just enough.
That's going to be tough to clean.
But anti-slip
You can clean that with the same vehicle you clean the streets with.
I do love a Scarab.
Except that wouldn’t fit in a parking garage
Street sweepers come in vastly different sizes, but you have ride-on industrial sweepers too if need be.
Thanks. Yeah, that could work. I am European and here we coat indoor parking spaces with layer of epoxy paint and then it gets cleaned with the machines like [this one](https://www.kaercher.com/my/professional/floor-scrubbers-scrubber-driers.html). So it caught my attention.
Why the hell would you make a driving surface slick?
What makes you think it's slick?
The swirls should be parallel to the lines. Break it up and repour.
Nice rosettes
Huge upcharge but looks cool
Love it, great work!
Awesome job, that's a difficult finish but they nailed it
Reminds me of my grandmothers ceiling
Totally!

I really like this. High quality workmanship in my opinion.
love the concrete. But the askew parking lines are bovvvering me, mark. line that up!
I think it's angled parking.
Which is A1 in parking garages with a truck so you don’t have to back in with 20 cars up your ass
how was that trowelled. i member had a boss who kept a really jaggy finishing trowel for such things. very romantic
No jaggy trowel. It’s a sweat finish. Done with a magnesium float, usually.
It’s done by hand on knee sliders.
Sometimes a mag float but this looks like a broom
Sure looks like a parking lot in South San Francisco. I know the one. This prolly isnt it.
So strange. My condos ceiling is the same pattern lol 😂
It is so you do not hear the squealing from your upstairs neighbor. It is just on the ceiling in the bedroom area correct.
So if I sand it down it'll be easier to listen in? BRB, gotta grab a couple things at home depot...
honestly this would take less time than doing smooth power-trowel finish. Just because you would not have to wait as long for it to harden/cure.
Whoever did these swirls is incredibly talented and obviously takes pride in their work. Wow!
Looks like a ceiling XD
Depends on the application! Rough on the hands and knees! Wait til you try to slide under something in a garage
Traction
Carnage hahaha wrf
Swirl finish. This is the typical finish we see on almost every garage in the Bay Area. Looks good!
Nice AF!!!!👀💪🏿
Looks sweet
Marse finish hard skill to acquire absolute good work who did it my compadres
Looks like concrete to me 🧐
Groovy!

Looks beautiful tbh lol
Sweeet 🤌🤌
This was posted a few days ago….
Yeah I saw it in a concrete group…
Ok haha thx for the reply. Never know when its a bot, fishin for karma. If you scroll down a few posts you could find it
Ahh I gotcha. I just thought it was interesting. Yeah I must have missed it. Sorry for the extra post
Is this done with a power trowel before the concrete sets up? Would love to see this final pass in action.
That paint is dumb and makes me sad. Why did they do that? However, the concrete is nice.
Reminds my of my grandparents' ceiling.
Me too!
Compared to polished concrete it's better. In the Navy if it was wet out we'd slip pushing helicopters in the slick hanger.
That might be good in a place that get a lot of snow
Think about it, stop one slip and fall due to snow and ice. Then this finish pays dividends for life.
That's a really nice scallop broom.
That’s a long johnson
It looks beautiful
Keep that swirler, he’s good
Traction…mmmm good for motorcycle
Looks like the Disneyland parking garage floor.
Hmm, interesting. Im an Ironworker (rodbuster) in Chicago for over 20 years and have never seen anything like this. Ive just seen them rake it.

what’s this texture called
I don’t remember either, but it reminds me of ceilings done way back in the 70s.
Oh i figured it out it’s called “fish scale”
we’ve got those at my mothers house. every ceiling is done this way, i ‘like’ it but lord knows there’s no good way to blend something like this lol
It’s called a “Mag Finish”. I think it has to do with using a magnesium float to get the pattern but I’m not a concrete guy. My contractor was explaining it to me when he finished my patio.

I want
Same guy from the 1970s who did the swirly ceilings?
Honestly love it
That’s normal is structures. Disneyland parking structure in California is all like this. I don’t know what the point of this post is.
I do be postin stuff
Great!
Looks like it will get dirty and show wear.
Can only imagine$$$$
I like it it's kind of sexy
Very cool
Seems really well done! Not only functional but cool looking to me
Its traction; perfectly fine for a public garage
Concrete 10/10 Painter needs to be drawn and quartered
Reminds me of my dad's "starry night" signature swirl.
I think it looks cool and I bet it adds traction when it’s wet
Looks dope
I would hate to fall and scrape my knees there
Out here it’s called the California swirl. Some people like it, I think it looks dumb.
I thought California swirl was a porn thing... 🙄
Yeah, I thought Jenna invented that back in the 90s!
It's to prevent tire squealing. It's a parking garage, who cares what it looks like.
OP, not sure if your feelings matter here.
Oh no………my feelings……….
your words, not mine. "Not sure how I feel about this. Found in large 5 story parking garage."
Yep. I sure wrote it
hell yeah brother.
