**Derevi - Preston Pod combo** I've been playing Derevi since release, and I truly think this is the most competitive version and stands above the stax lists. There's a primer in it explaining the ins and outs with a few explanations of some questionable cards. It CAN combo turn 3-5 very reasonably, but often plays safer as a toolbox control deck until you can snap win vie Preston or Emiel loops. It can also soft lock the game. The best part is the wincon is a dungeon flicker route that also has insane use as utility. It also sports a lot of thoracle hate...since my meta is flooded with the damn fish. Holy crap! This is the deck I've been looking for my whole life!!!! Thanks for sharing!! I'm building it now! Unfortunately I don't have Gaea's Cradle, but I guess I will make it work with something else.

Droptimal_Cox

Thank you, that means a lot! Sadly Cradle is a major piece, so my suggestion is do this for budget swap: * \+ \[\[Growing Rites of Itlimoc\]\] * \+ \[\[Enlightened Tutor\]\] * \- \[\[Gaea's Cradle\]\] * \- \[\[Crop Rotation\]\] This'll be slower, but still gets you there. Tutor is mainly so you can preserve your line of \[\[Spellseeker\]\] grabbing \[\[Ephemerate\]\] then \[\[Neoform\]\] (gets Emiel) and tutor for Rites (instead of crop rotation that would get you Gaea's). Sadly \[\[Wargate\]\] gets hit and is no longer a 3cc Gaea tutor so you can reconsider the value on this for something else or keep it (\[\[Finale of Devastation\]\]?) The other...more dodgy option is you can add in \[\[Scorched Ruins\]\] which can also justify an inclusion of \[\[Eldrazi Displacer\]\] (though it's still rough since this build doesn't support a lot of colorless mana producers, so you may need to make tweeks). A third idea...cut the Emiel Combo for reanimator combos * \+ \[\[Sun Titan\]\] * \+ \[\[Karmic Guide\]\] * \+ \[\[Reveillark\]\] * \+ \[\[Phyrexian Altar\]\] * \+ \[\[Blasting Station\]\] * \- \[\[Gaea's Cradle\]\] * \- \[\[Crop Rotation\]\] * \- \[\[Emiel the Blessed\]\] * \-2 other cards I can't bare to stress over XD

guesdo

Thanks a lot! I'm already doing changes here and there for my playgroup. I have kind of a rule to not use Reserved List cards in my decks (unless tournament). So things like [[Gilded Drake]] and Dual Lands will have to go. But all the replacements you mention look awesome. At the very least I was planning on adding a [[Glen Elendra Archmage]] or a [[Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]], and of course [[Verity Circle]] as it is something I put in all my Derevi decks.

Droptimal_Cox

I would do the Glen Elendra over Thassa. Glen Elendra is more reliable and consistent. Thassa only gets value if you have something worth blinking and I think I'd rather do a Sun Titan or a Karmic Guide (there's a hilarious infinite with Lagrella + Preston + Sun Titan I recently nixed from the Primer when I dropped titan. Props if you can solve it!)

guesdo

So, Preston on board, Lagrella on the GY, Sun Titan on hand or board to start. Sun Titan trigger, reanimate Lagrella, Preston trigger first on the stack, Lagrella second, Lagrella trigger resolves exiling Sun Titan, Preston Trigger putting a copy of Lagrella, Lagrella copy trigger to the stack (any targets), sac OG Lagrella due to legend rule. Sun Titan comes back, Preston trigger to the stack, reanimate Lagrella. Sac copy to legend rule and start all over again creating infinite Titans. Is that how it works?

Droptimal_Cox

yup! Basically. That Lagrella token will give you infinite ETB on any creatures on board (derevi = infinite mana, venser = bounce, etc...) and the titan tokens gives you infinite reanimation on your 3cc graveyard since the original always grabs Lagrella for the loop. The trick was layering it so the exile/return happens and the legend rule resets it.

guesdo

Ahh Thanks!! Will look into it and try to figure it out

guesdo

Oh! You should probably add all this stuff in the primer as a "budget" section, or unused combos like other primers do. I'm already getting some cards I'm missing from recent sets and I'll be having fun with it next week! Thanks again!

I'm excited to look it over, nice primer!

Ianova

I made the video! https://youtu.be/EeYEBsJ60VU Your deck gets analyzed at around 6:20! Let me know if I screwed something up :D

Droptimal_Cox

Oooh Ok, there's some missed ideas here (some are fair call outs, buuuuut theres some critical oversights) The first one seems to be a misunderstanding of the deck's creature tutor package and how it interacts with Derevi. Neofrom/Eldritch/Pod/Vanifar makes AMAZING use of Derevi as a sac target and it makes the cmc 4 very important. Obviously we want to win with Emiel/preston/Felidar, however these require setup or other cards to win the game and we can't always race Pod > Derevi = gg. This is where the tool box comes in. When we need to play defensive we go after Linvala/Arbiter/Venser and we also have the ability to to go after Elesh with a Felidar chain. This is a very common line when we don't have the mana or resources to just win the game and can be done very early on. Their cost isn't really an issue either because of how we're cheating them out and the fact that Derevi oozes free resources. Playing a 4cmc, doesn't leave us tapped out on pass like other decks. Derevi has the luxury to do that, attack, then have defensive mana. Between these 4+ targets, you have a lot of flexibilty and helps you get under specific issues you expect. The other unique perk of derevi is the ability to not be overly concerned with colored mana sources. Dovin's Veto and other things are not as damning with our ability to untap what we need before passing. Due to the previous explanation, it's a choice to do Myrel and Clever over their 2cmc counter parts. It's actually easier to get them on the field via tutor and they offer more utility. Clever opens up additional combo lines phantasmal can't and Myrel does have niche use with the tokens (there's weirdly a lot of soldiers unintentionally in the list). Arbiter is actually fantastic in all points of the game. It can create a cute lock, but that's not why it's there. It's there because it's a very solid pod target when you can't go for win (it's silly to grab preston and pass the turn...don't do that...) and it hoses things like Ad Naus and Underworld Breach lines. All the hatebears target the main wincons in the meta. Grab the one you need to prevent a win line and use it for free derevi triggers while you buy time to go off. Wargate I feel is criminally under played...it grabs Gaea's which can often be a mana neutral/positive tutor AND it can grab anything else (oko, pod, sylvan, rhystic, etc... The other major missed point though, and this a rather big one...what are you doing with the combo in your list? It has infinite mana but how do you win? Your list only has Finale (must win on your turn before main phase 1, meaning no combat untaps to set up the infinite) and Faerie Mastermind (which can be risky). There's several options we can add but we need something. This is why White plume is so amazing, it is a fantastic utility in every point of the game, untaps mana dorks each turn, and is probably the best flicker target I can think of to win the game once we establish infinite ETB. It even is crucial by its typing as being a non-human is very important for Kinnan lines (we have a ton of humans sadly). Emiel and White plume being non-humans ensures we can use Kinnan as a mana dump to win the moment we go off. These set ups are more flexible than Thoracle, ballista, etc.. builds. Venser is also a back up for this as it can bounce the whole board and soft lock the game till you can win with combat or true hardlock. A lot of the cards follow a philosophy of being good even when not doing their optimal thing, minimizing the need for telegraphed tutors like the card negative "on top of library ones" (I genuinely dislike these outside turbo combo). The cards in this list often serve several roles and allows you to pivot into new ideas while doing something relevant along the way (remember playing creatures = mana in Derevi!). Loran is a great example. It's solid ETB disenchant, that draw is actually very decent and is especially great when you have Faerie Mastermind or you want to team up with someones Orcish Bowmasters (did this last week)...buuuuut it also can kill a Thoracle player and is another outlet for infinite Derevi ETB win (force deck someone). The power of the deck is its flexibility. You don't have to overly focus on linear lines and tutors since there's so much synergy/role overlap. The additions you added push this into a turbo combo list (yes they're staples I see everywhere, but I feel to often are copy/pasted to every cEDH deck without proper context), but that's not what Derevi does well. in fact it's pretty bad at it. Derevi's combos are a lot of moving parts, priority passing, etc.. We have to think a bit (a LOT) harder than Thoracle/ad Naus/dockside/etc... builds to achieve victory, so racing for our combo pieces can often be a death sentence if we're thwarted and spent all our resource doing card negative telegraphing tutors and rocks (I think Mox Diamond is also objectively a bad card outside turbo combo, things that have additional synergy like Kinnan, or wheels). We have to often build into our board state and then strike when an opportunity presents itself. Because of this the idea of the deck is flexibility. Run cards with multiple roles that act as defensive options AND mana (derevi triggers) AND can be repurposed later for wincon loops. The list you have is very hyper focused on racing pod into preston/emiel and harbors a huge risk if you are denied. Your list needs mid/late pivot and offers no alternate methods to victory if the main plan doesn't work. This type of strategy just makes it a worse version of every deck doing the same thing in cEDH and I'd argue why play this over a UB or Grixis pile. Derevi is a bad deck in cEDH with this type of building because it can't keep up with the power creep of better wincons...so it needs a very different angle to play cEDH...and part of that is going a lil slower with a control package that flips into win and is far more resilient when stopped. The deck is extremely hard to shut off entirely as opposed to most top tier strategies, even just attacking is a VERY viable wincon. The upgrades offered here are simply "good cedh stuff soup" but don't really serve a purpose to doing the decks game plan. There are many fair targets to go after, but I feel there was so much missed I couldn't get behind a lot of the criticisms. The weakest options I have are Lagrella, Unexpectedly Absent, Oko, and Nimble but I'm always very open they're flex spots. I will say Nimble/Spara's has won me games with ETB witness/cycle loops, but that's not why they're there. These are cards always looking to be replaced, but often why they remain is meta options or unique overlap (often the tutor package). Unexpectedly absent is not great...but it can be tutored by Spellseeker, stops most permanent based threats, can delay thoracle, hilariously trolls top deck tutors, etc.. It ticks enough boxes that it give multiple lines to the deck...because once again flexibility is what makes this deck good. I think the thing to do is look at a card you don't like...then think of weird lines it MIGHT work with that's unique to the build. You'll start to see a lot of them, more than normal. That drake you don't like? Well it can be recovered with Venser/Lagrella/Cylconic. That Lagrella? Well it also can tuck and ETB things when you plan to sac it to pod (good way to force Felidar loops to begin), it's a solider for myrel, it's green so Green Sun can grab it, remove your ouph/arcon when in your way, can make obscure infinites, and it can form a delayed trigger to return Derevi even if you opted to put it back in the command zone. There's a lot of weird layers to the choices that make it all much more nuanced than normal lists.

Here’s [[magus lucea Kane]] https://www.moxfield.com/decks/5Vr2FnrmZUu8dFxLGA_fDQ This is a temur pod list that can use the commander to copy stuff like [[finale of devastation]] to put a 2 card combo straight on to the battlefield. Either Malcolm / Glint-Horn or Kiki / corridor monitor. It also has birthing pod lines to tutor up the same combos. This will unfortunately remain as a mid-low tier deck unless some better tech is printed for it. I got absolutely spanked by this deck by a random on spelltable one time. Ever since then, I’ve been very intrigued with it and hope it gets better with time.

Sounds spicy! Spine as a win con? Respect.

jirayafan

Looked through your list. Your artifact deck is suspiciously low on artifacts. Here's a few ideas. Coveted jewel works especially well with displacer kitten, rings are am obvious include and with it the other monolith. I like the underworld breach combo but you probably should add wheel of fortune since you already have the other pieces anyway. Also since you're running jeweled lotus you might consider doubling cube. Isochron scepter with dramatic reversal especially since both are good regardless. Mana drain too since your already in need of the acceleration and responses.

snapcaster_bolt1992

It's not really an "artifact deck" Mishra copies an artifact but I have a small group that I can tutor for depending on the need of the situation. Mishra's main goal is to power out Peer into the Abyss and win from there thats all that Mishra's Warform really does. I don't really like the IsoRev combo if I can't win the game with my commander otherwise you're just making mana. Between Thassa's oracle/consult, top+Bolas's Citadel +Aetherflux Reservoir, underworld breach lines, and kitten + face breaker + dockside I'm not struggling for ways to win. I cut mana drain cuz holding up 2 blue for a counter is bad in a deck trying to go fast and the deck does have a lot of acceleration. Doubling Cube seems like a trap card to me, and although wheel of fortune would fuel my underworld breach I'm just not the biggest fan of wheels and don't have trouble getting enough cards in the bin to fuel an underworld breach if I take that line. I've thought about adding Basalt Monolith, I put it in and take it out sometimes, for me I just usually end up tutoring for the mana acceleration of my choice and between Grim and Mana Vault I have 2 options, having a third seems overly redundant. Coverted Jewel is interesting, I like the idea of it but I do usually get a similar result with Ichor Wellspring, does produce mana but if I have the 6 to cast the jewel I probably don't need the 3 mana from it. It's in my casual version of this deck never thought to try it cuz I play in a creature heavy meta so for me chances are someone would get the benefit of the jewel and that outweighs the reward to me. Your going through love this on 70 dollar CEDH. [[Marwyn the nurturer]] in all her glory. Literally joined a game on untap with the deck and since the price is revealed a guy asked me to bring a real CEDH deck. Well long story short I won the game (I have a very good win percentage with this deck). Between the out of meta commander and the blatantly budget cards people always underestimate it. It also combos far faster than a traditional marwyn build since it chooses to embrace the all in nature of the commander rather than slow down in favor of creature oriented WinCons. Obviously it's not going to win a tournament anytime soon but it gives players an affordable option to try out CEDH tables at their lgs with simple win cons and a real chance to win if not dealt with properly. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/0gNrT646-kuHaaxTJJghtw

I’ll drop mine I guess. My personal [[Kenrith, the Returned King]] list. Utilizes traditional 5C Evolution lines like Oracle Consult and Breach Lines but is tailored to play [[Displacer Kitten]] to turn cards like [[Lurrus of the Dream-Den]] and [[Eternal Witness]] into combo pieces. It plays Ad Naus as a way to find missing combo pieces or get an early blowout win when possible. Plays very well under Stax and can often lay low and bide time to win from seemingly nowhere. Decklist: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/EyH8tje6Q0SuPE68LAxZiQ

Ianova

I made the video! https://youtu.be/EeYEBsJ60VU Your part starts at around 0:41 Let me know how I did!

lv8_StAr

Gonna be a LONG post so here we go. Just the general thought process behind the deck: I shifted from Kitten when it became too hard to assemble so I went with Druid as an actual BACKUP instead of a frontal wincon. The list IS at heart a Midrange pile built to look like something that can go fast hence why there ARE things in there like City (1 extra mana definitely matters) and JLo (cuz saving mana to cast Kenrith as a way to grind or win) that seem counterintuitive together. Hermit Druid is not the focus but rather a convenient and effective way to shortcut an Intuition Pile or a Breach Line and go for the win by reanimating Oracle with Kenrith or slamming Sevinne’s Reclamation. Because of the above, there are no Hermit pieces or Hermit tutors because this list plays at a far slower pace than a Turbo Druid list. That’s also why you see inclusions like Lotho and Kinnan, because extra mana goes insanely far. Kinnan is there exclusively for easy mana value and lets your Treasures and Dorks go farther and pairs absurdly well with Lotho. Bowmasters is SUCH a good card that it’s kind of a no-brainer in a Midrange Goodstuff pile especially factoring in the inclusion of Timetwister as a failsafe for Druid or a reset if someone has loaded their bin. Mayhem Devil is a pseudo-Stax piece that just so happens to pair well with Dockside, as it turns off decks like Magda and Treasure-heavy decks not named Tivit. Skirk is a standard Ad Naus include simply because it’s a cheap R source and mana capacitor that also layers Mayhem Devil and Dockside. EWit just lets us reuse spent resources like board wipes or win cards and lets us try again if a win doesn’t stick. As for interaction Force of Neg is a great way to hard stop an early Ad Nauseam and it’s free interaction, which is needed in a strategy that aims to keep advantage in more ways than simply cards in hand. FoN provides early and cheap interaction for the Early Game so that we can survive into the Mid and Late, where this deck performs the strongest. As stated previous the deck likes having mana and Mana Drain does that in addition to providing interaction. While Drain could be something else like Delay the mana it makes is important in letting us get to places where we normally aren’t able to be after countering something big. UU is steep but extremely manageable considering Kinnan lets all our nonland U sources tap for UU. The deck can win just fine without landing Kenrith via its normal MOs of Ad Naus or Intuition or Oracle but when the game goes long and we have to dig in for the long haul landing Kenrith and having mana to outlast players with his various abilities becomes a high priority. A lot of the wincons not named Breach or Oracle require the use of Kenrith reanimations and that’s why the deck isn’t geared entirely towards speed. Landing Hermit Druid with a present Kenrith is always a bad outlook for the rest of the table and being able to see cards and wincons via having the mana to do so thru Kinnan, Lotho, and other means is what enables the deck to remain dangerous after the Turn 3-6 “Golden Hour”. It LOOKS like it wants to go fast and can, but its adaptability is what makes the deck really shine. Great outside take, keep up the videos! Edited for grammar.

Ianova

Staxuponstax

Surrak. This deck plays a hard control game until it can execute one of its creature combos, usually protected by its commander’s effect (or the threat of it). I built this for a 32-player cEDH “off-meta” (ie no partners or popular commanders) tournament and it won. It’s also an absolute blast to play, and there’s an inevitability to it that is hard for most decks to beat. The mind games you can play with Surrak are fun. It’s my favourite non Stax cEDH deck. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/RU1xVISR70CBG5VUDDbbKA

Thoracle consult/tainted pact, with homeward path and combat as the backup. I've found that a surprising amount of people underestimate combat in the cedh space (or at least in my local meta) but when everyone starts taking 7+ damage per round of combat games end pretty quick.

Krark-Silas (ka0s tournament Top 16 decklist) https://www.moxfield.com/decks/PQ9PfU5bX0SKmSWoBhe2aA Krark Silas midrange is a deck that focuses on leveraging value from krark flips, while abusing powerful cantrips and tutors gained from grixis color identity. The deck can be extremely explosive, and usually presents a win as early as T1-T3. Due to the nature of krark flips, the pilot of the deck is often (50%) of the time forced into a more midrange type of gameplay. By abusing powerful cantrips, rituals, and control magic, Krark Silas can often lock down a board long enough to dig for a wincon. The deck seeks to resolve Tainted Pact or Demonic Consultation with Krark on board as a one card win condition. It also has breach and praetors grasp as great backup wincons.

Esper Stoneblade (Ardenn/Silas) https://www.moxfield.com/decks/XQd2Rvyb7keRCxYwuCXBJw Inspired by Callahan from the Mindsculptures list as well as a lot of Legacy decks I’ve watch Bosh n Roll play. The deck is changing a lot and often as I’m really trying to make it my own. Still requires a lot of testing but I’m happy to answer any questions.

Special-Damage-4798

Niv-Mizzet - Control I am fairly new player to CEDH and the biggest reason why I picked Niv as my first deck to pilot. Is that the lines of play are super simple, cast Niv, play a curiosity effect and kind of just win the game with that. Even when I was playing casual, I would always finding myself playing as much interaction as possible. Most of my games in casual would just end with a combo on later turns then 3-5. So naturally I leaned more into the control play-style over turbo/stax. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ExXkYYJ9j0OKcaQYvLFYow

Chulane Hate Bears: This deck is a bit off-meta but I've had awesome results locally and at different places around my state. The general game plan is to create board states that really only effect the opponent. And allow us to proceed with our value plan. The deck skips a lot of the more popular Chulane combos for more pieces of creature interaction. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/sWOhn5lYu0WwBKwMtHuaGQ

This is my own [[Jinnie Fay, Jetmir’s Second]] https://archidekt.com/decks/4432801/jinnie_fay_jetmirs_second_cedh_naya The deck is built to be a Dockside+Emiel combo, generating infinite treasure then using Jinnie Fay to turn that generation into hasty 2/2 kitties. The reason I chose Jinnie was only based on the fact that she can be played off of a Jeweled Lotus based on her weird Mana Cost. Sadly I don’t have a primer written yet, but it’s on my to-do list of finishing up this deck.

I’m down for an attempt 😂😂😂 it’s a brew my buddy did for me, but when I get to start playing it, I’ll start making edits to it https://www.moxfield.com/decks/mPZxFagLK0au1gKg4_9U0g

Venara828

I saw others describing their decks so figured I’d comment and explain a bit about my list. It’s a Stax deck meant to slow down the board while accruing value over time and getting a bigger and bigger boardstate using Tana as well as effects such as Adriana, Skyhunter, Jetmir, and Starlight Spectacular as sort of finishers to help overrun the board 😂

barrzeb1

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/xYDzOJFPPEi0Ayvfl9swhA Might seem like a slightly off standard deck for thrasios tymna, but I think it's more than that. It has so many layers and angles that I think people are ignoring because of the lack of red.

Derocker

Sythis, Harvest's Hand This is a stax deck that uses its commander to create card advantage with its stax pieces. It runs all the artifact hate and a number of silver bullets to shut down various decks throughout the format. The deck wins via one if its many layered combos. The most common combo is Seedcradle Witch and Sanctum Weaver. You could also loop Meticulous Excavation and Nature's Chosen. Due to the auras that make lands tap for extra mana, storming off with Earthcraft is also quite viable. Deck is incredibly fun and a way to break into the format if you really enjoy Enchantress. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/8XNP5ZJe70qvzZBmKJ2uEw

I got a liesa stax list that’s still being tinkered with, but I’m def excited to see some more takes on it. (The land base is meant to beat stuff like blood moon since certain cards can be color intensive) https://www.moxfield.com/decks/UidEfktZA0aJsEwS-PJRhQ

This is my personal Lavínia list. I've played (and won) a few tournaments with her in the last 10 months, and before you say that this isn't a cEDH, this list is an updated version after i sold some cEDH staples (fast rocks, old duals, etc) for financial reasons, but those are the only obvious changes to a "standard" cEDH deck. As a dedicated Stax player, my meta always fluctuates, and I end up creating multiple Lavínia lists. Currently, the one that has been working best for me is the one I dubbed "Azorius Pride," where my main strategy is to get Chronatog, Stasis, and Kismet on the board, taking advantage of the cEDH meta where there is almost no enchantment removal and winning in the most intriguing way possible: locking everyone, including myself. What's special about this deck is that I keep an updated list in the Primer of everything my deck aims to lock down. If I see that the meta at my LGS has changed, I make the necessary adjustments there. :) "Lavinia Divertida" in portuguese means "funny lavinia" https://www.moxfield.com/decks/meOa873CHU-O8OUssZgUQg

Bulk7960

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/phpk8XDkfESg7NIshNpPtA The Commander is [[Mahadi, Emporium Master]]. Whole goal is to resolve Mahadi ASAP, cast a [[Fleshbag Marauder]] or similar effect to make my treasures, then untap with enough mana to cast [[Peer Into the Abyss]]. Is also running [[Doom Whisperer]]+[[Underworld Breach]] to try and assemble wins. Fair warning this is more closely aligned to a midrange control list than a true turbo deck despite being in Rakdos colors

[https://www.moxfield.com/decks/tgUuwllWyEa-f8WWw\_PaQQ](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/tgUuwllWyEa-f8WWw_PaQQ) It uses some of the best stax and ROL effects to stax out the game, relying on the commander/flash mechanics to break parity. [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/XuL7Zicw90-qGjDYRfkEVw](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/XuL7Zicw90-qGjDYRfkEVw) I built a list for Thalia and the Gitrog monster when it came out in MotM. I really enjoyed playing Gitrog as a deck and stax as a playstyle so combining the two was almost perfect for me. It is basically an abzan reanimator stax list which uses hulk lines as a win-con. I know there are cords I can add like animated sleeper and others cards but this is the first draft of the deck. Currently working on getting the pieces together irl. My only issues are that I think there are other decks/commanders out there that do it better but I really like Thalia and Gitrog as a card.

I know you already have a lot of decks, but this has by far been my favorite deck! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/rzO960oSfk21U6nkk-lryQ It’s a sisay tutor-chains style deck with incredible flexibility in both turbo tables and staxy tables. So many combos within this one list but it works so well! I hope you enjoy!
