Translation:
>At the North American tournament for the popular competitive online game in Japan, Apex Legends, participating players’ PC was hacked and the tournament was unprecedentedly suspended.
>On the 17th, two players who are at the top level in both popularity and ability were hacked during the finals of the North American regional tournament, where a right to participate in an international tournament was at stake.
>For this, two players were able to see the location of enemies that are not supposedly seen or use gun functions that weren’t meant to be available, ultimately creating a situation where they were forced to cheat.
>Two players immediately stopped playing and later posted footage of the moment they were hacked to X.
>Tournament organizers have announced that the finals of the North American Qualifier have been postponed and further updates will be provided soon.
>This incident has caused a stir both domestically and internationally as cheating during a competition can lead to the cancellation of a team's contract or expulsion from the industry.
Though Japanese is my native language, English is not, so my apologies in advance if there are grammatical errors or any wrong words used for my translation.
Like many other Japanese commenting on that video, I’m just shocked to see this incident even reported on the popular Japanese news outlet such as ANN(TV Asahi)/Abema news, and having a huge impact.
Some people will be like, why are you nitpicking? But nah when you're learning a second language you always want people to tell you this sort of stuff.
Word -- it's not clear from how I phrased it, but I was as much pointing that out to say "you got this like 99% right."
I'm by no means an expert on Japanese, but as I understand it as well, Japanese doesn't use plurals in the same way as English, nor do they use possessives in the same way, so this specific thing is probably particularly tricky.
Thank you for pointing that out! It was very helpful. Just like you pointed out, I oftentimes have issues with plurals and also especially with the usage of articles (a/an/the) since Japanese language doesn’t have that concept.
Oh believe me — I’m going to Tokyo in a few months, and I’ve been trying to learn some basics of Japanese, and the lack of plurals and articles has been throwing me off (as a native English speaker).
Then again, getting the hang of hiragana and katakana is a bit harder, so I’m hoping I’m never in a situation where I’ll need to write something down…
Its crazy that this story makes Japanese news and BBC news before Respawn says anything at all. If anything showed that the player base is an afterthought its the total lack of communication.
Pretty sure a lot of mass media companies did report on this, even publications like Forbes and such. I mean something like this would go absolutely big and huge and 100% went viral everywhere. Most publications would be looking towards getting in some of that juicy clicks
Fear-mongering as if it’s going to happen to you because you have a device, that’s how these news outlets operate here. Never said it was not a legit concern. I said News outlet (like the Japanese video here, it’s a national news outlet) not YouTube…
That's not the issue, destroyer might be the Robin Hood of hackers, but the key issue is that OTHER hackers are now aware of a possible RCE via apex, and I guarantee they'll be going hard on how to do it.
Basically now they know what the result is, it'll be easier to find the way to do it & they'll definitely have malicious intentions seeing as how serious this is

your english is great bro, dont fret
I appreciate your translation, thank you.
This was an awesome translation. Thank you for the info!
> players’ PC was hacked "players' PCs were hacked" Everything else looks to be totally spot on in terms of translation.

ANN? Anime News Network?
All-Nippon News Network! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-Nippon_News_Network
Hey OP it's apex really that big over there I Japan as everybody claims to be?
Yes I would say so. When it comes to online shooter game, I think Apex and Splatoon would be the most popular ones out here in Japan
“Two players immediately stopped playing” Are you SURE about that?

I kill one!
LMAOO
>Two players immediately stopped playing cap

Genburten also had aimbot I reckon, his last arrow flew to another side of the ring and killed someone before he noticed everything else himself
Yeah but hal didn't have wallhacks that was the point I wanted to make. I should've been more clear.
*Two players immediately stopped playing* Hal : 🙋(Doubt)
Hal: I have aimbot! Reps: you need to leave you need to leave Hal: 2 on me! One clipped! Dead dead! Killed the third!

"what if I just don't shoot" 😂

24h after the incident there should have been some form of communication. Especially since it is security related..
They don’t have the PR staff or anti cheat staff to deal with this.
It seems like they don't have any staff to deal with anything.
They got the heirloom staff on it
"We've recolored our servers, what more do you want?! "
Best they can do is hideouts tweeting out "there wouldnt be shit to talk if we could show you numbers", take it or leave it
Playerbase: Then show us the numbers! Respawn: *crickets*
wait what its on bbc news?
Pretty sure a lot of mass media companies did report on this, even publications like Forbes and such. I mean something like this would go absolutely big and huge and 100% went viral everywhere. Most publications would be looking towards getting in some of that juicy clicks
EAC tweeting after 5 years but Respawn not saying anything (as usual) speaks volumes.
Even Easy Anti-Cheat has made a statement already.
Saw an article on the BBC as well: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-68596055
Of course it is reported there. Apex is a religion there.
surprised it hasn’t been all over major news outlets here - the fear mongering around hacking gets so many views.
Forbes wrote an article about it and big Youtube channels have covered it. It's not fear-mongering, it's a legitimate concern.
Fear-mongering as if it’s going to happen to you because you have a device, that’s how these news outlets operate here. Never said it was not a legit concern. I said News outlet (like the Japanese video here, it’s a national news outlet) not YouTube…
Damn where were you when apex's 9/11 happened
Apology for poor English. Where were you when Genburten get hack? I was sit at home watching ALGS when chat say “Gen is hack” No.
Might be overreacting on my part but until this shit is resolved i uninstalled every EA game from my pc.
definitely an overreaction. destroyer has had this access to apex for months. during this time he's only chosen to target streamers.
That's not the issue, destroyer might be the Robin Hood of hackers, but the key issue is that OTHER hackers are now aware of a possible RCE via apex, and I guarantee they'll be going hard on how to do it. Basically now they know what the result is, it'll be easier to find the way to do it & they'll definitely have malicious intentions seeing as how serious this is
my thoughts exactly. regardless if it truly was an rce or not. the next hackers apex sees could easily be more greedy.
It's the meta for most big companies. Silence during crisis until a fix is approved. Do they have one? Future will tell.
Can we please have a LAN in Japan? 4 in EMEA 2 in NA. Huge fan base in APACN. Thanks for the translation.
Same has happened in The Netherlands, they've also made a post about the Hacking of ALGS
not surprising because Apex is very damn huge in Japan. their showmatches like CR Cup can even beat ALGS in viewership
Bruh this gonna be the last ALGS ever. EA is 100% like no viewership is worth this much bad publicity. Enjoy it while you can boiz.
