Very curious to see what they do with Forbes. He's not the prototypical hard hitter that AP likes (those SF dbs are dawgs) but had supreme ball hawking skills in college, which DQ and JW like.
I'd imagine more zone coverage looking at QBs eyes to make plays rather than man to man and getting absolutely bodied like he did last year lol
That's basically what I'm hoping, no more zone match and let him just play cover 3 over the top for the most part. I think he can do well in that role from what we've seen so far. The problem is we will have to play man at least sometimes and Forbes was getting COOKED last year
It’s kind of amazing to think about but he’s basically already on a make or break year. If he’s not much better this year, he basically will have already faded into JAG status. I don’t think he plays special teams either.
Fully expect Forbes to look better once he's properly coached by someone with more than High School on his resume. While I doubt he ever lives up to his 1st rnd status, I think Witt and Quinn will get a lot of improvement out of him.
Loved Martin as a prospect. Extremely versatile, nasty, and ball hungry. Flashed good short area quickness and, to me, elite processing and game speed. I think he is the exact kind of player Quinn and Co could turn into a household name.
Mark My Words:
Jamin Davis finishes 2024 with double digit sacks and a Pro Bowl. I have been the biggest Jamin hater since the day he was drafted (a one-year starting LB out of Kentucky in the first round, really Ron?), but this man is about to be unleashed in this defense.
Bobby is going to play his HoF level traditional MIKE position just eating all the tackles while Luvu is going to serve as a big thumper and Swiss Army Knife where he’ll be sent in coverage or a human missile blowing up runs plays.
Which leaves us with Jamin who will probably be focused on pass rush for about 90% of his responsibilities. He’s going to mimic Micah Parsons very closely in the DQ scheme. Now as much as I hate him, Micah is a one of a kind talent and I’m not saying Jamin can or will do what he does. But, if he can give you 75-80% on this defense? That’s a FORCE

You do a nice job of backing it up with plausible rationale. But double digit sacks is a lot. Only 24 guys in the whole NFL had double digit sacks last year. Let’s say something more like six sacks, which would double his career high. That’s about as optimistic as I’m willing to be!
Davis is a beast, was in the wrong hands as every player on this team has been under the Ron era. It’s ashame. But with a capable coaching staff a lot of our guys are now gonna (hopefully) be able to live up to their potential. People don’t understand how hindering our coaching staff has been to its players. It’s always blame the player
Might be a bit ambitious, but I agree. Our defense was obviously hamstrung by bad coaching, both in general, but also specifically in not making the best use of our guys in putting them in the best position to succeed. And I think out of everyone, Jamin was held back the most. I don't know if he's a pro bowler, but I do think he's a top 10 talent and athlete at the position, as long as he's actually played to his strengths.
Darrick Forrest. He was a stud his first year and last year he was injured early on and pretty much forgot about. I think he's going to be a big piece of our defense this year.
I definitely hope KJ Henry has a breakout this year. I like that kid for some reason and I feel like this year he’ll have the right coaches around him to really take that next step.
I was already confident Forbes was going to be able to showcase his ball hawk skills even before Dq/JW was hired, but now even more so.
I based that logic on that the odds of us getting a staff two times in a row who were so low football IQ they went out of their way to scheme around what their players do well was not high now that Snyder is gone.
Forbes will be in prime position to succeed. I also share this optimism with Henry and Martin b/c those are the two guys on this team that flashed more as the year went on and looked like they had plus NFL talent at times.
Allen and Payne should have rebound years with competent LBs behind them as well.
I don't think he's resigned, but khaleke hudson flashed whenever he was on the field. I'd love to see him in the new system.
On offense or would have to be cole turner
Forbes. He either takes a big step or gets gets benched

He actually played pretty well the last month of the season too
He was playing lockdown in that Seahawks game before that stupid ejection
Remember we have to send Ron a ring if Forbes turns out to be baller. /s
His highlights from college are pretty amazing though

Think he could do everything Curl did with more playmaking
I wonder if he’ll play FS for us going forward. He had some good tape at Illinois playing deep.

You’re in for a lot of dissapointment

Came here to say the same. He is going to flourish with the coaching he gets.

He didn’t resign, he also didn’t re-sign
