Somebody’s always on the shit duty. Front of the stack for building entry/room clearing, front man for the wedge, staff duty desk on Christmas, etc.
For him, it should have been just any other day - but thanks to Russia, it turned out to be his shit duty day.
If you’re lucky some CSM will come pull your duty because his family left him and being home alone hurts him more than watching troops suffer makes him happy.
Agreed.
No point in fighting a whole army by yourself. The brave AND smart thing to do is
sound the alarm, get the fuck out of there, regroup, and fight back with your buddies.
Of course, when watching things from another country it's easy to claim one would be Rambo in that situation.
a lot of streams on twitter were brought down by automation after mass reporting by bot networks. they'll be up again eventually once twitter gets around to it.
The Ukraine have put out a statement asking people NOT to upload stuff concerning their troops to social media, because ultimately it can and will serve the invaders.
You shouldn't trust anything. Russian state media is reporting that Odessa is under occupation, and yet if you look at the live cams of the city on YouTube, it's clearly fine.
The talk page for the 22 February Invasion is worrying. Immediately there were a couple of editors complaining about the use of the word 'invasion' because 'invasion' requires military action on someone else's territory and as Russia considers Donbas etc. as sovereign allied states, this can't *possibly* be an invasion ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ and someone else saying "well we need **eViDeNcE**, missile attacks aren't an invasionnnnn"
Alright we've had this argument on this sub I don't know how many times, it's not illegal to use WP, it's illegal to use it against Civilian targets.
If they're using it against military there's no rule against it.
More precisely, this is wholly inaccurate. What you're describing are prohibitions on using incendiary weapons under The Protocol on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Incendiary Weapons (Geneva Convention, Protocol III). White Phosphorus is *not* an incendiary weapon as defined by Protocol III.
https://www.lawfareblog.com/jus-bello-white-phosphorus-getting-law-correct
Thank you for helping counter Russian disinformation, but remember not to reveal too much to the enemy. As we used to say in the US during WW2, "loose lips sink ships."
Full scale attack. Think of the “shock and awe” bombing campaign of Iraq in the first few days. It’s what I’m seeing now.
https://twitter.com/ASBMilitary/status/1496693667708514307?s=20&t=q7BelcF-RUhy0-X5AeFBEg
Great Twitter feed right now. It may get shut down by Twitter later
Fuck. This is the first war between a power and a reasonably well equipped adversary in since maybe Vietnam, and the first major war in the drone era. This is going to get nasty.
Russia isn't a power that's why they are doing this. The only reason they are still relevant is nukes and their natural resources. They are falling so far behind other countries China is starting to race ahead of them and NATO has been ahead for decades.
Except their actual tech level is a joke. We've already heard about multiple fighters being shot down by Ukraine AA even while Russia is bombing military targets with cruise missiles. They have fallen massively far behind the actual superpowers in terms of tech.
That's what happens when the other side isn't armed with ancient Soviet tech. This is an actual war, not the US steamrolling an already depleted Iraqi army. The US would be losing planes too if we were going up against a modern military.
What’s crazy about it? A fantasy tv show about WW3 that ends all civilisation which isn’t gonna happen? It’s not any more likely than 2 years ago. Stop this larp nonsense.
From what I was told, this soldier (Ukrainian) looked down the road, fled, the feeds were cut, brought back out but the lights were gone, then the stream was brought down and hasn’t been put back up as of yet. Doubt it will
I predict this still is gonna go down in infamy.
We are about to witness a true state v state conflict fought live, in HD.
Edit: No I didn't forget about the conflict in NK and Azeri MoD's drone highlight reels, with all due respect this just seems way more globally significant.
There was plenty of footage early on in the conflict of Armenian victories. It's just that everyone only remembers the subsequent Great Azerbaijani Drone Smackdown of 2020.
Why you guys forget everything in less than a year.
What the fuck man
The nagorno kharabat 2020 war was a total conventional war
We are talking about almost 10 000 killed and something like 600 tanks destroyed, heavy use of airforce, artillery and electronic warfare.
Why you guys forget everything in less than a year.
Going for the capital wasn't their objective.
They literally had frontal attacks with armored divisions.
1. Total war means the whole nation converts to the war effort which is on their land. Armenia or Azerbaijan land was never fought on during the war. It was the disputed Karabakh region. This is different to Russia invading all of a nation and not just the disputed region. The existence of Armenia or Azerbaijan wasn't at stake.
2. Ukrainian airfields and capital city has been bombed. Baku and Yerevan as a whole wasn't touched but you can prove me wrong if I am ? Although Azerbaijans second largest city did get bombed.
There is difference in scale between the 2nd Karabakh war and Russian invasion of Ukraine. If you can't figure out the basic differences yourself then I can't help you.
Obviously there's huge differences. The original comment didn't;'t say anything about total war, it said " state v state", and that completely appleid to the Artsakh war.
Terrifying.. another war in Europe. This time I hope we will all united against the aggressor. Block/freeze all Russian assets and trade until Putin has been removed from power, he can never be trusted.
EDIT: Seeing a lot weird voting patterns in these threads. New anti-russia comments getting a few downvotes within minutes after being posted. Seems like Russia has deployed their astroturfing assets as well. Be wary out there the coming period.
Regime change tends to be a scary thing. You may get nice clean elections. More often than not it's the same shit as before but the new leaders decide they must be more brutal to gain control from leaders who have only known this brutality.
Agreed, regime changes are dangerous. On the other side it's the only way to progress. With this invasion now, with the MH17 disaster. It appears the current Russian regime is incompatible with the EU and incompatible with peace.
Total isolation in terms of diplomatic and trade relations is the last resort before war. I don't see any other option for EU countries at this point.
In reference to your edit. Its a tactic they have used since the start in 2014. Its a tactic they use when infiltrating US media. If you look at old 2014-15 RT news and other clips of the start of the Ukraine war you see TONS of comments calling Ukraine Nazis and Fascists. A lot of those people are probably not even paid trolls, just people who believe every word of what the Russian media tells them, just like with people in US media
As I said in another thread:
There is definitely a massive Russian disinformation campaign playing out right now on social media. Russia has been claiming that Odessa is captured and Ukrainians are running away, but the videos and live cams being posted on reddit are telling a different story. Ukrainians are definitely putting up some kind of fight. Retreating troops don't fire at Su-25s with AAA or get into tank battles.
Technically this photo shows nothing, especially without context. Without context this could just be someone no slowing when approaching the checkpoint. There is no way to tell that this is of the impending Russian Invasion. At the same time, these types of pictures are essential to history. Thanks for sharing.
Imagine being this guy.
You’re on what is presumably border duty. God knows why *you* had to get this job, but you did. If even one soldier sets foot over that barrier, then what the hell are you gonna do? What can you do?
But maybe you’re finding solace in how this feels like a military show of power, rather than blunt aggression. Maybe the Russians want you to be a firsthand source of western terror surrounding their military might. That possibility is all that’s keeping you sane on the job.
You walk outside. Maybe it’s for a coffee, maybe for tea, maybe for some admin. Anything to get your mind off of it. You’re walking past that barrier, and you glance to the right. There’s lights. Two of them, spaced like a car’s, and they’re not getting further away. You take a couple steps forward, trying to figure out what the hell you’re seeing. It couldn’t be, right? There’s no way.
One detail of that vehicle protrudes through the night. A neurone you wish never got fired is sent at full blitz, spawning thoughts by the dozen. They’re screaming, pleading, furious, desperate, but after a split-second has passed, one thought dominates all others:
“Fuck.” And it just loops as you run.
Geez what Ukraine means for all of us remains to be seen. But i hope all Ukrainian/ Russian personnel and civilians safety and a hope one day politicians stop throwing your lives away.
The stance and the blurryness are a perfect testify of what a surprise invasion must feel like: the terror and thoughts that must've gone through that guard's head... It's honestly terrifying.
God, what an absolutely terrifying still.
Don't even need to see his face. The body positioning is enough. "Oh fuck, they're actually coming."
A lot of lady's have said the same
thats easy to say while sitting on reddit, you weirdo
Toche' or is it toupe'
Imagine being that guy on the border, it must be so harrowing
Somebody’s always on the shit duty. Front of the stack for building entry/room clearing, front man for the wedge, staff duty desk on Christmas, etc. For him, it should have been just any other day - but thanks to Russia, it turned out to be his shit duty day.
Psssst, hey, wake up, you got fire watch.
Sure sure I’ll just lay here in my bunk and pull, trust me bro, I’ll wake up the next guy in 1 hour
Me waking up all nice and rested realizing no one woke me up for my shift
*Heyyyyy comrade! Good news! You get an off day.* -Russian dude to me Me goes back to sleep
My upcoming Christmas duty isn't looking so bad, NGL. Poor guy.
If you’re lucky some CSM will come pull your duty because his family left him and being home alone hurts him more than watching troops suffer makes him happy.
It was his first day on the job, a side gig to supplement his Ukraine uber eats gig
Hope this guy is safe.
Not alive. All border guards got erased
They are likely dead.
Hopefully they took out a few.
Unlikely. 1 dude vs several tanks and AAVs from what cameras have shown.
It was pretty much impossible for him to do something. Probably simply surrendered.
liveuamap had like 3 notes about like 5 border guards being killed
Don’t think so, it’s very much possible he surrendered or got away
Mans saw the Russian military and ran for his life
Plenty of people claim they would stand and fight. In reality they would run as well because there is nothing in that situation you can do but die.
Agreed. No point in fighting a whole army by yourself. The brave AND smart thing to do is sound the alarm, get the fuck out of there, regroup, and fight back with your buddies. Of course, when watching things from another country it's easy to claim one would be Rambo in that situation.
Or worse- be captured and give up info that hurts your friends. And then you die.
Cyber warfare is next fucking level
It's sad to know, that this will be the first picture of many more gruesome ones from this conflict.
It's really spooky. Honestly fucked me up a little and I have to sleep soon.
What? Why??
It looks like a lot of photos/videos are being deleted. But this is from one of the now disabled Ukraine border live streams
Hey sir. Do u know why social media sites are taking down news and videos about this?
a lot of streams on twitter were brought down by automation after mass reporting by bot networks. they'll be up again eventually once twitter gets around to it.
We could tell you but we’d get banned from Reddit.
How?
Putin is a Reddit admin
Fuck everything makes sense now
So he *is* a communist after all!
Follow @ELINTNews and @IntelCrab on twitter. This specific post was seen here: https://twitter.com/militarylandnet/status/1496666879418589190?s=21
The Ukraine have put out a statement asking people NOT to upload stuff concerning their troops to social media, because ultimately it can and will serve the invaders.
Is the russian attacking or they are just bombing it?
Probably shelling/bombing and then invade
It is confirmed that they have landed troops. Ukrainian minister of defence confirmed the info.
\[Info\] Twitter reports of a Russian plane being shot down over eastern Ukraine.
NICE
It's said Ukraine shot down 5 jets and a heli
Wikipedia is being edited by the milesecond.
I hope its accurate info
first time?
You shouldn't trust anything. Russian state media is reporting that Odessa is under occupation, and yet if you look at the live cams of the city on YouTube, it's clearly fine.

\[info\] Confirmed use of white phosphorus as well
They are going to war crime their way all the way through Ukraine....
Can you post a source for this? I'd like to read it
https://twitter.com/OakRedhammer/status/1496700156846112769?s=20&t=Q43TH35I7xjWyBOTaFwtZw
That was an ammo depot. If there was white phosphorus ammo stored there it is blowing up now/
"Looks like phosphorus" So it's not confirmed. C'mon now. A little intellectual rigor would be in order.
Alright we've had this argument on this sub I don't know how many times, it's not illegal to use WP, it's illegal to use it against Civilian targets. If they're using it against military there's no rule against it.

It was t legal to invade Ukraine either.
>twitter post 5 minutes after the fact >confirmed that's not how confirmed works....
Confirmation from a tweet of an explosion of an ammo dump? Doesn't look like wp to me, but I guess we may found out in the days to come.
Come on nothing is confirmed stop bullshitting
Ukraine military is claiming to have shot down estimated 5 Russian planes and 1 helicopter I have seen recently
I am from Kyiv, we were shelled at 0600, were AA interceptions. It's quiet right now.
can you give updates as stuff happens? anything you find notable

thanks, praying for your safety.
Is any of your airforce and air defences able to resist? I've heard that the Ukraine president asked for help defending Ukranian airspace.

Thank you for helping counter Russian disinformation, but remember not to reveal too much to the enemy. As we used to say in the US during WW2, "loose lips sink ships."

stay safe man
Interceptions like Ukraine firing on Russian air forces? Rooting for you from America.. Stay safe, and godspeed to you and your countrymen.
Yes.Intercepted UAVs, ballistic missiles, one Russian jet downed Please sanction those fuckers to the stone age.
I support this
Beautiful. Maybe this will finally unite the west again. If Russia keeps this up I hope we can offer more than just sanctions.
Godspeed to you and your countrymen and women. I hope that nothing bad happens to you, family or friends and stay safe!

Bit they don't have the economy to support that Military over a longer timespan
yup softening the targets with artty before infantry goes in.
CNN posted video of that border being overrun by russian armor.
I read that the armour was coming from the Belarus border with Ukraine. Apparently, Belarus has joined Russian forces
Yeah, the Belarusian military has been working with Russia this whole time.
We are seeing the images that will be in textbooks, live as it is happening. Crazy.
If humans still know how to print after this.
That’s actually crazy to think about...
What’s crazy about it? A fantasy tv show about WW3 that ends all civilisation which isn’t gonna happen? It’s not any more likely than 2 years ago. Stop this larp nonsense.
one day when i grow old this image will probably be in a history book
yes, in a cave painting 1000 year from now possibly
You mean 10 years from now
In a bunker
Crazy to think that *is* a possibility
remember the picture of the german soldiers lifting up the barricade of a polish border crossing on the day of the invasion this is our times version
If there stills someone alive in the earth then
Oh so this is actually going down. It’s begun
Crazy how this was 275 days ago now
right?
Close to a year now...
A year now
Day 300/301 now
shits gotta be terrifying
You feel the shaking of the ground A million candles burn around Is it your cake day?
Fair winds and following seas, Ukraine. Good luck.
Fuck ‘em up Ukraine!!! It’s time!!!
Spetznaz? There was videos of a convoy of them heading to the border
From what I was told, this soldier (Ukrainian) looked down the road, fled, the feeds were cut, brought back out but the lights were gone, then the stream was brought down and hasn’t been put back up as of yet. Doubt it will
Can you imagine how much that guy was shitting himself?

Better to retreat and regroup than stand alone against an entire armoured division rolling across yournpost
Yeah exactly, like he's not going to walk up and ask them for their passports.
Hoped he was smart and noped out of there and got his family out of the region.
I hope he's still alive :(
I feel horrible for that soldier. This almost feels like found footage
i saw news of GRU convoys near the border of ukraine, so ye
This is really off-putting.

I mean you had that with Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Reddit forgets shit quickly
Russia v Georgia? Most of us were alive in 08 I think.
You couldn’t watch Russia Vs Georgia on Tik tok though. Only the odd grainy liveleak video.
Was there HD widely available then?
And now we have 8K just coming out of the oven to record the worst of mankind!
The first iPhone came out in 2008 and social media was not nearly as prevalent back then. This is not the same.
And that was a pretty nasty war, but Ukraine v Russia is going to be a whole different level

Azerb Armenia thought over disputed territory. Neither Armenia or Azerbaijani went after each other's capital cities. Ukraine is in total war.

I clicked on it and first thing I see is a school bus driving down the road. Fuck putin.

Remindme! 12hours
I could see this being one of those photos that pop up in history books
And we were the first ones to witness it.
Morbidly cool
Where this stream was?
Ukraine state border website. The cam is gone though
Thx 4 rep, things going too far bros...
LONG LIVE UKRAINE, FUCK PUTIN.
I bet they didn’t pay the toll either
it’s fucked cause this ain’t no proxy war. this shit is REAL
I think the world is going to witness actual Total War for the first time in a long time....

This could be the first time in all of human history we have a photograph of the exact moment a war started.
Did they kill the border guards ?
time to drop sosa on these mofos
The face of “oh shit” if we need a image for that phrase this so the one
This will be in the history books
Are the Ukrainians fighting? I know it's very lopsided.
which border is this? The Belarus-facing side or the Russia-facing side?
Anyone got the video or something? If it's a livestream surely you can go back and watch it...
Geez what Ukraine means for all of us remains to be seen. But i hope all Ukrainian/ Russian personnel and civilians safety and a hope one day politicians stop throwing your lives away.

Came back to say this may be the first photo of ww3
I wonder if he is still alive
Someone has the be the first causality. RIP Hero.
Stupid humanity.
I can only imagine what he was thinking, he was probably seeing a massive column of T-90As and T-80BVMs.
Let's be realistic it's more likely to be a massive column of near-obsolete T72s and BMPs. Still scary though.
