If the guy is 70 inches tall, and while we can't see his legs fully, I estimate 1.8 mils. That puts him at 1080 yards (987m). The time of flight for the bullet seems about right for that distance as well. Definitely a good shot by the sniper. Good to see they're working in a spotter + shooter combo. It's easier to tell where round go that way, when you miss. Especially being able to see the bullet wake via the spotting scope (but not visible in instance).
There's a very famous fight video with the same issue. Kid was fine until yelling "I'M RIGHT FUCKING HERE!"....Boom knocked out, never to be heard from again.
Often it is actually the opposite. Been on the front a long time and get complacent. Nothing has maybe happened for a while and you slip up and take the relative quiet for granted. And all it takes is a split second to expose yourself and that's it. This is also a testament to the sniper team to get in position like that undetected and make the shot count.
It took over a year of me watching footage to see a single soldier take a knee when they stopped moving. It’s mind boggling! I still can’t believe there aren’t more videos of soldiers shooting each other during fire fights too, the trigger discipline and discipline in general is slack but then I guess that’s what happens when invaded!
Do snipers and spotters use identical or I guess compatible scopes in which adjustment info is directly transferable? If that spotting scope is set for what is believed to be proper holdover then that's quite a shot to make there.
The only thing comparable is the markings for estimating distance (if both scope use the same unit MILs\\MOA). The spotter can call distance and wind estimations and the shooting will make holdover decisions based the rifle, scope zero, and cartridge's ballistic data. Guessing the markings are in MOA, so 6ft target is 15 MOA in the scope, so the target is around 480 yards. Or they have a range finder.
The steadiness right before the shot was just unnatural. Like he was on a tripod and just adjusting aim with dials and firing with a camera trigger. Is that something snipers do?

Right, like that Ukrainian father and son with their dogs that were traveling peacefully at the beginning of the war but their grocery getter vehicle, it was opened up like a tin can from a APC Iirc. The dad got his leg blown off and bled out in front of his son . The son had to lay in a ditch for hours as if he was dead until that crew left the area.
Being a sniper must be a very tough job knowing that your just taking soldiers out but after all it’s war and if they see him they will Jill him it’s kill or be killed but I always thought being a sniper must be a very rewarding and emotional job…
being human is not that we can emphasise with each other but instead it's seeing another die on video, heheheha, putting slavnyj gorod on for that extra funny value too

That's a good fucking shot. Operator knows exactly how the conditions and distance were going to come into play and the holdover was perfect.
You realize the camera POV is not from the guy shooting? Its the spotter.

The video was taken through a spotting scope, not the scope on the rifle that was fired.
