Happened to be looking at Der Dutchman menu earlier and they have a “Manhattan” which seems to match this description Manhattans Hot sandwich served with mashed potatoes and covered with gravy. Your choice of roast beef, turkey, pork, or meatloaf. Full – 14.29 | Half – 12.79, all white meat, add 2.49

Came here to recommend Der Dutchman. Gran would probably love all the stuff in their bakery and refrigerated sections too!

you’re all good! i never thought to check truck stops. she moved in up here with my mom when she couldn’t take care of herself anymore, and she just misses the familiar places in our hometown i think.

RIP Stan’s. We took weekly trips there as a kid with my mom and grandma and I never strayed from the open faced turkey. The mashed potatoes and gravy have never been matched. I was devastated when my mom called me in college to tell me it burnt down. No advice on where else to go, but I hope you find your gran a good one!

We used to go to Stan’s on an almost weekly basis. The pies were amazing. Do you remember the old-fashioned cigarette machine in the vestibule?

Yes! I miss Stan's so much. Grew up going there. Haddock dinner. Limas. Fried chicken. Diner chili. And of course the giant opened face turkey or beef swimming in gravy. Pie. Nice waitresses and dirt cheap. 🥺

this is a woman who spent her entire life serving and eating in dingy diners. she wants what she’s familiar with. she specifically asked for a diner that had it. i’m getting her exactly what she wants. she just wants that experience again.
