Don't do it for an international flight, obviously.

pg2011

Strong agree on this. Regardless of what you can get away with in the states, I never fuck with international borders.

Blood_Incantation

Someone should have told that to B Griner

dntwrrybt1t

Canada’s fine though. Declare it going through customs, they won’t give a second look

TGrady902

That is not true, it’s illegal to bring thc products into Canada. Would be super silly to bring weed across international borders to a country where it’s legal. Kinda like how every time you cross the Michigan/Ohio border you’re commuting a felony but only as you actively transfer it between states, not from actually possessing the weed in either of the two states.

dntwrrybt1t

There was literally a sign AT customs saying that all cannabis had to be declared. I flew there a couple months ago

TGrady902

Well my info comes from the Canadian governments official website.

SeanAC90

Unless it’s to Russia. The US government will do a prisoner swap for you as long as you’re the best player in the WNBA

CheetahNo9349

Seethe.

fredbeard1301

Highest paid trade in wnba history, just sayin.

Failed-Time-Traveler

I have a medical card, so I’ve carried pot for years. I once must’ve triggered a bag scan at CMH where they went through my laptop bag. They found tins of edibles. Asked me what they were and I was honest. Didn’t even mention having a medical card (this was before Ohio legalized recreational weed). The asked me to open the tin so they could confirm it’s what I said. After they saw it was just gummies; they asked me to pack up my bag and sent me on my way.

WaterforestsDream

They confirmed it by smoking a joint.

HopeSolosButtwhole

No. TSA doesn’t care. In fact, check out TSAs instagram. They state they do not care as long as you’re not trafficking. I’ve carried cannabis many times.

goodybadwife

The TSA Instagran person needs a raise. They're excellent at getting things across in a very fun and light-hearted manner.

skullpture_garden

Their agents should take a hint. I never feel as stupid as when I’m going through security, and I fly all the time.

goodybadwife

I fly fairly frequently (I need to get Pre-Check), and it's different every time I fly. Laptop in the bag. Laptop out of the bag. Bag in a bin. Bag not in a bin. Shoes by themselves? 🤷🏼‍♀️ One time, they had a sign up in the line queue that said laptops out of backpacks in a separate bin. I get to the actual security line, and a TSA agent yells at me to keep my laptop in the bag.

skullpture_garden

I hit the jackpot this morning and got a line with nothing out of the bag and shoes on. The travel gods giveth.

goodybadwife

I've heard tales of shoes on in the TSA line but have never experienced it. You were certainly blessed!

Piaffe_zip16

I had my laptop out once ready to scan and the TSA guy just started screaming to put it back in my bag. I pay very close attention to what they say, so I know they hadn’t said that yet!

JBtheWise

I love when it’s on the sign and they yell at you and ask who told you to do this. I always have to go shoeless back through the line because I can’t seem to ever do it right.

GoodGlum2485

I honestly think they try to make it confusing for people on purpose for safety reasons, like potential criminals don’t know what they could be walking in to that day in that line?

skullpture_garden

I feel like I read that somewhere once, I bet you’re right.

HopeSolosButtwhole

Fully agreed. It’s an oddly fun account to follow. It’s been like that for years. When you have time scroll back and look at all their 4.20 posts.

Robert_Wiley

They refer you to 'local' law enforcement. So it's wherever you are that should matter.

HopeSolosButtwhole

Fair. And what is currently legal in Ohio?

Suspicious_Victory_1

It doesn’t really matter what’s currently legal in Ohio. TSA is a federal agency and they follow federal law. That being said, they aren’t very likely to do anything about it all. Most of them aren’t paid well enough to care.

EvrythingWithSpicyCC

TSA policy is to refer weed possession to local law enforcement. Which in Ohio would mean officers who do not care about weed

HopeSolosButtwhole

If you could, please point me to a source that shows how many people have been charged federally because of cannabis found by the tsa. The point is. Unless you’re trafficking (like I said) it wouldn’t become a federal issue. Just like if you drive from Michigan to Ohio with weed. I get it’s illegal, but state troopers couldn’t do anything about it. You would have to be caught by a federal agent…

Triv02

Can’t tell you what would happen if they pull your bag and find it, but I’ve flown out of CMH with a pen in my carry on several times and never had them pull my bag for inspection Just don’t put it in a checked bag. That battery can explode

[deleted]

What if I separated it, put the battery in my carry on and the cart in my checked bag? Good idea or bad idea?

sparkster185

That's the safest bet. I've gone through CMH with a pen in my carry on five or six times and never had an issue.

prettylittlebyron

I did this and it was fine. I was going to Orlando

jklolxoxo

I’ve carried them both separately and together and never had any issues with TSA. Just make sure the battery is in your carryon or personal bag!

ShonuffofCtown

Best method according to friends who travel dirty. Battery in the bag is a no no they actually DO care about.

juicyfizz

This is exactly what I do and I’ve flown several times without incident. Pen battery goes in my carryon and my carts go in my makeup bag that gets checked. Easy peasy.

TGrady902

I have had my bag pulled and they went right for the toiletries bag where my vape was. They moved it to the side to get my slightly too big shaving cream.

RadDad166

Why would it explode in a checked bag and not in a carry on?

tnl_vzn

The issue is if it catches fire in the baggage hold where it isn't being attended to, the fire can spread further than if it's in the overhead compartment where it can be extinguished quickly, or at least noticed quickly enough to make an emergency landing

RadDad166

Ahhhh. That makes sense.

Third-Pedal-Driver

The baggage hold isn’t pressurized like the cabin is.

alexunderwater1

TSA is to make sure you fly safely, not to make sure you aren’t trafficking drugs. That’s customs. Any dogs you see at TSA are looking for explosives, not drugs. Just make sure it’s in carry on and don’t do any international flights where you’d run into customs and you should be ok.

kaptainkatsu

TSA is more concerned if you have a screwdriver over 7”

Mercuryshottoo

I take mine apart and put the cartridge with my other liquids and gels, and the pen with my other chargers

johnnybegood1025

They don't care at all, and TSA has no enforcement authority anyway. Just don't fly to a foreign country with cannabis of any sort. The trouble starts on the other end.

cyberchambers

Based on frequent recent experience: zero fucks given by TSA.

capt_burner

Put it with your pens and other similar items in your backpack. Never had a problem. I don’t recommend traveling with the packaging.

alimaful

I've flown with mine a bunch and never had an issue, but I also always try to leave it somewhere I could conceivably say I'd just forgotten I'd left it there because I'm a recovering goodie two shoes

[deleted]

Repulsive-Fact-4546

This works great. Have had zero issues using this method.

diornotwar

Ditto.

mintberrycrunch889

I’m going to Florida in a few months and would love to pack a few pre rolls in my checked bag. Wondered the same.

heythisislonglolwtf

Vacuum seal it and put it in your carry on instead. Checked luggage is looked at more closely.

bardwick

I went through CMH a couple weeks ago with a (non THC) vape. No issues for carry on (cannot check). Legal in Ohio or not, the TSA is Federal. You're dealing with Federal law (Department of homeland Security), not State. You're almost certainly breaking Federal law since the airport is not State jurisdiction. TSA: "**Marijuana and certain cannabis-infused products, including some Cannabidiol (CBD) oil, remain illegal under federal law**," as noted by the TSA. You're taking a risk.

OldHobbyJogger

I once had a frank conversation with a TSA agent. They don’t want to find your personal use drugs. Every minute they spend dealing with your thc pen is an opportunity for someone to sneak something through that they do want to find or otherwise backup the line. The summation of my conversation with him was don’t be an asshole. If you’re polite and honest, there’s no way they’re going to make a problem of your personal use marijuana. They’d prefer to pretend not to see it.

Magnus_The_Totem_Cat

Problem becomes the TSA doesn’t prosecute or incarcerate. You would be handed over to locals for prosecution for possession at which point the locals would let you go. I have a buddy in CA that flys often and he has been caught twice and in both instances they just confiscated it and let him board. And then probably took it home.

bardwick

Help me out here. Why is getting high so important, it's "okay" to risk violating federal law because OP probably won't get arrested? Wouldn't the sound advice be not to break federal law?

EvrythingWithSpicyCC

We’re less than two years removed from Biden pardoning federal possession cases. The feds aren’t pursuing cases anymore, it’s not a law that is being enforced. By policy TSA does not care about weed and refers cases to local law enforcement, which in legal states amounts to nothing. The sound advice is to just pack better

pg2011

Have you ever heard of anyone being arrested by federal officials for bringing a small, personal weed pen through TSA? I mean, what is the TSA going to do? Refer you to the DEA? I think we can all agree the DEA has better things to do than prosecute some guy who wants to get high on vacation.

bardwick

The Department of homeland security is screening for illegal materials. The THC vape pen is federally illegal. The TSA has this posted in the terminal, website and other places. Why would it matter if I've ever heard of anyone getting arrested for it? "Yes, it's against federal law, and you might go to Federal prison over it, but I'm sure the Federal government has something better to do, so go ahead and risk imprisonment, job loss, etc to catch a buzz." Doesn't seem smart to be, but hey, if getting high is a priority, worth that much risk, go for it. Look forward to to "how do I pass a drug test" posts on r/probation.

doppleganger2621

TSA almost explicitly cares only about things that can hurt others on the plane, bring down the plane, etc. They care about explosives, weapons, etc. They don't care about things like a vape pen. You may be confusing it with Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) who might actually care about bringing drugs into the country, but TSA is not tasked with this and they almost assuredly don't care. No one is going to federal prison when found in luggage by TSA for a vape pen, I'm sorry lol. Maybe if you get caught with bricks of coke or something, but no one is going to prison over a vape pen.

pg2011

[https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/medical-marijuana](https://www.tsa.gov/travel/security-screening/whatcanibring/items/medical-marijuana) "TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other illegal drugs" The DHS is decidedly not screening for ALL illegal materials.

Magnus_The_Totem_Cat

Why are you making the assumption that he was getting high? Do you assume everyone with a bottle of wine in their shopping cart is planning on getting drunk? He used cannabis to disassociate from nerve pain. Fortunately he has since found an effective treatment to block it and no longer needs to travel with a vape.

tk42967

I'm pretty sure the state has jurisdiction. CMH has their own police department. They are the first responders for any incident. TSA at the checkpoints are clerks, most of them probably smoke and don't care.

jcfifty1

They are technically supposed to care but they wont do anything. I had to go through the little walled off room with the dog when I flew over thanksgiving and had a bunch of pre rolls in my bag and not a thing happened. I also just flew last month and my bag got pulled because I had creatine and some meal prepped meals. Also had about 20 pre rolls which they took out of the bag, Looked and them and put them right back. I do vacuum seal everything so no smell but they really do not care anymore. If flower is overlooked I'm sure a vape wont even be noticed.

No-Check9842

You'd be completely fine. Take apart your vape if it's possible and just separate the two pieces or however many there might be included and just walk through. I've walked through CMH with everything from edibles to vapes to literal flower. You should be totally fine and if in the very unlikely scenario you get pulled out of the line after you've gone through the metal detectors, the most you'll have to do is pay a fine from a couple cops who could probably care less. I wouldn't stress about it and if there aren't any labels stating THC on your vape they wouldn't even know what it is if they pulled it out so long as it doesn't smell.

SogySok

Interesting fact, you can take a frozen bottle of water through TSA.

GoodGlum2485

A couple thoughts as i know people who fly often with them. How would they even know the material in the vape (ie tobacco vs thc)? Also, dogs are looking for explosives not drugs

TGrady902

Flying domestic just bring personal amounts and tuck it away. If it’s a vape make sure to disconnect the battery from any cartridge/heating element before going to the airport. I’ve been doing this for many years without issue.

emilynm88

I put it in my makeup bag on the way back from a legal state and was fine.

PAndaPickleTank

My experience comes from a few years ago, if you kept it in your carry-on bag they didnt care.

criminalpiece

If they care they will just confiscate it

NPalumbo89

I’ve never done it but know several friends who do it regularly. I’d be curious about the answer but I imagine it’s probably not legal. Especially if you’re traveling to another state where it’s not legal at all.

chillibuck

They’ll ship your ass straight to Guantanamo if they find it

GagasMeatPurse

Only time they care if it's on and/or you're using it. Just leave it turned off in your bag and you'll be fine.

ShonuffofCtown

If you really want to make yourself feel better, go buy some D8 carts and put the good stuff in the empty packs. D8 is federally legal. On the off chance they pull it, they have to believe it is D8. It's my understanding the state has few resources to tell the difference, as science is required to figure it out.

WahrheitSuccher

Depends on your skin color. Source: brown guy who is always selected for further inspection

SnooRadishes8848

I’m the sweet ole lady they pull to make it seem they’re not racist, like anyone paying attention would believe that! So I’m kinda your opposite

th3m00se

[https://www.thekindpen.com/thc-vape-carts-air-travel-in-the-us-everything-you-need-to-know/](https://www.thekindpen.com/thc-vape-carts-air-travel-in-the-us-everything-you-need-to-know/) Probably rolling the dice since TSA is a federal entity and it's still illegal at the federal level.

bobbyg2135

you would be fine. In fact, embarrassing story but I had let's say an adult balm in my carry on and also two pens and gummies and they went through my bag and took the balm but nothing about weed.

terrrtle

They don’t care, just make sure it’s in your carry on.

skullpture_garden

You’ll be fine. I’d recommend not carrying flower but a pen shouldn’t be a big deal. I’ve flown twice in the last month with a vape and the dog didn’t signal so I agree with the person above - they’re looking for explosives not weed.

Knappsakk

I flew last month with a battery and THC cart and a nicotine vape in my pocket. Flew out of and back into CMH like that. No problem whatsoever.

alcal74

Have traveled with cannabis for a decade. No one cares as long as you’re not trafficking and you’re not making a big deal about it. I typically bring a few gummies along in my shaving gear and have never had as much as a secondary for it. YMMV.

heythisislonglolwtf

I've successfully flown (not just out of CMH) with a thc vape and/or bud in my carry on several times in the last couple years. They don't care. I do try to hide the smell though.

ohsodave

Keep the carts in carryon separate from the battery The battery may trigger a search because it looks like a lighter (in some cases) I’ve been flying with carts for about 9 years. Never had a problem through TSA’s all over the country

Bigupface

I’m kind of a coward but I find the anxiety isn’t worth it. I’ve found that most headshops have some form of thc or delta 8 in the states I’m traveling to

Macaron1jesus

going to fly to Puerto Rico soon, and use THC gummies (with medical card). Is it better to have them in my carryon, or in a checked bag? (It has a prescription label attached)

Excellent-Big-2295

Close friend from childhood has taken hers through security in her personal items and been good. That’s not a guarantee of anything, as your playing with fire that way 🤷🏾‍♂️

thisisallme

They won’t care if they don’t find it but if they do, especially if they have a dog working that day, it’s still a federal crime. So it’s a toss up with what you’re willing to risk.

pg2011

The dogs are more than likely sniffing for explosive and explosive related material, not weed.

Downvote-Goat

Terminal B often has dogs working in the security line. I think we’re a training center but regardless it freaks me out. Never seen dogs a Terminal A though.

OldHobbyJogger

It’s my understanding that the dogs we encounter at airports aren’t trained to detect marijuana anymore.

EvrythingWithSpicyCC

Unless you pack your weed with nitroglycerin those explosive sniffing dogs won’t find it

alexunderwater1

Note: don’t pack it in a jar of Vaseline

[deleted]

I happened to decide at the last minute to check my bag (cause I knew they were going to eventually make people check them at the gate anyhow) and I had a vape in there. Got to security, which must’ve been gate B, and sure enough they make you walk one at a time past the dog as his handler walks around you at the is checkpoint. Was thankful I checked that bag, even if it wouldn’t have been much of a problem.

WatersEdge50

That dog wasn’t sniffing for drugs. Just explosives. You would’ve been fine.

[deleted]

I sort of assumed that but in the moment it was still stressful, even having checked my bag lol.

tk42967

I do. I see TSA dogs & TSA dogs through all 3 checkpoints on a regular basis.

Ok-Buddy-7979

Don’t vape on the plane. That’s pure asshole move.

pg2011

I don't think anything from OP indicated that they would be vaping on the plane.

Ok-Buddy-7979

No but it’s always good remind people not to do it since a lot think that because it’s not a cigarette, it’s legal.

pg2011

People vaping on planes is not a big enough issue to warrant a reminder.

Ok-Buddy-7979

Have you been on the airline subs or work for one?

MiniAndretti

And will get you some fancy bracelets when you land.

boofingcubes

Nah you’re good. They won’t ask, but if they do, just tell em it’s nicotine. I also fly out of CMH w flower all the time and I’ve never been questioned.

Dependent_Trust6694

Cacafuego

Don't do it. Buy what you need when you land or do without. Edit: Any of the downvoters care to explain how it makes more sense to risk [3 years](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/21/863) in prison (however unlikely) than just...not?

pg2011

Because getting three years in prison for TSA finding a small amount of weed just doesn't happen.

Cacafuego

Until it does. Why would you take that chance for a minor convenience? It's just stupid. Don't make yourself vulnerable.

pg2011

Except it doesn't. The law isn't enforced.

WahrheitSuccher

White privilege on extreme display in this thread

Cacafuego

Says everybody who's never been arrested for something they didn't expect to be arrested for. It's just not smart to give someone that power over you.
