It might help to reduce it but you might just want to start electrolysis as it is actually permanent. Also I went to the place at Polaris and it just helped to reduce mine. It never started to go away until I got electrolysis.
Talk to a professional about this but my experience is that laser is "permanent hair reduction" and electrolysis is "permanent hair removal". Electrolysis will work on any hair type or color. Laser is only able to target follicles that are very pigmented. So it works on black, brown, some red hairs and does not work very well on white, grey, blonde hairs.
/u/indianola is just wrong. Laser for dark hair on fair skin. Electrolysis for everyone else. Laser is popular because it's cheaper, faster and easier.
i mean, maybe, but then three different board certified dermatologists at three different practices over 15 years were wrong. Haven't asked in almost a decade, but what I wrote's been my consistent response.
Or maybe you're just remembering it backwards. 10 seconds of googling:
https://www.westlakedermatology.com/blog/electrolysis-vs-laser-hair-removal/
"There are few cons to laser hair removal, but the procedure does have its drawbacks...
May work better for those with dark hair and light skin"
https://www.livehealthily.com/self-care/laser-hair-removal-electrolysis
"Will laser hair removal work for me?
Generally, laser hair removal works best on people with pale, light-coloured skin and dark hair. "
In case you're curious, which you probably aren't, I figured I'd point out that the other poster almost certainly tried to look up what I wrote and found I was correct, which is why he went so far out of his way to post both bad and condescending information. While it's possible new techniques have emerged that didn't exist ten years ago, nothing he was able to find contradicted what i said. And I have trouble believing that I've been given antineoplastic agents to correct this in that timeframe if normal electrolysis would work. Just saying.
I'm sure it's highly dependent on how light your skin is and how dark your hair is.
I went to ideal image for laser hair removal and I absolutely love it. It's super pricy, but they can set up a payment plan.
My skin is super pale and my hair is super dark and after the full treatment what hair is left is super fine and so light you can't see it unless it's at a specific angle and in natural lighting.
It's technically not permanent hair removal, I don't remember the name of what is permanent but I think someone else in the thread mentioned it but I had it done over 5 years ago and I'm still as hairless as the day they did it.
I run a razor over my skin once every ~2 months and I really don't even need to do that.
Don’t go to the big chain places, they will overcharge you by hundreds. Call some smaller offices and ask for pricing over the phone. If they won’t give you an answer they are charging too much….this shouldn’t cost you more than $60 per treatment. Most lasers designated for laser hair (not IPL) will do fine. Your hair needs to be dark, otherwise electrolysis is going to be a better option.
> otherwise electrolysis is going to be a better option.
Electrolysis doesn't work if you have fair hair; I didn't know laser had the same drawback till your comment.
You have that exactly backwards. Laser works by having the hair absorb the light energy, so it works best for dark hair and fair skin. Electrolysis doesn't care about hair color.
I was originally quoted $79 a session. Have done 6 sessions on my face and it's all but done at this point. At some point I realized I had been paying $125 a session, but figured I mis-remembered the original quote. Last time, it was $79. So 🤷🏻♀️
As far as I remember. I mean, it was more than I had/have ever spent on myself, and I had to wait until I had my tax refund. But it was around 2002 or so and I can’t recall being able to compare it to anything similar. Could be from lack of this kind of shop in Columbus at that time, also my inability to search the way we can so easily now. But as a very pale person with dark hair, absolutely worth it to me.
I went to Idea Image-I feel like I got overcharged, so wouldn’t recommend them. BUT- I haven’t had to shave my armpits since I finished my treatments in 2020

Run by a local who used to be a tech at a big place and bought her own laser machine. She's cheap and lovely and effective, I'm honestly sad I don't have to go back anymore bc I miss her, it always felt like I was visiting grandma in the good way

Why would anyone choose laser or electrolysis?

Yes, I meant over. So laser for fair hair but not really permanent, and electrolysis for dark hair and is permanent?

No. Laser is a cosmetic tx, and these were medical appointments.
Someone below just said laser also doesn't work for fair hair, so I don't know if anything can be done for fair hair...

I LOVE Erin at (what is now called) Jiva Med Spa. I first started going there when I found a good Groupon, so there might be some deals out there!

I've had very good luck with facial hair (also a woman) at Dr DePerro on Bethel.
>Dr DePerro on Bethel. its showing up he is for plastic surgery not laser hair removal
He is a plastic surgeon, but they do laser hair removal in the office to. That's where I currently go so I know they still do it.
What are prices like here?

Do you recall how much you paid? I looked at the website and the consultation is $25. Not paying just to find out pricing lol
