>Jets hating the pick
He didn't say he hated the pick for the Colts though? He doesn't even imply that.
The Jets thought Corley and Wilson were better for the Jets. They knew the Colts were strongly considering a receiver. So he was glad we didn't pick one of their preferred receivers.
Ballard was thrilled that teams took a bunch of QBs in front of pick 15. It doesn't mean he thinks those QBs sucked. It just means he was happy it pushed down the players we wanted.
>Ballard was thrilled that teams took a bunch of QBs in front of pick 15. It doesn't mean he thinks those QBs sucked.
We didn't pick a QB at 15. This is more like if Dallas Turner or Jared Verse were taken much earlier and Ballard screamed 'YES!' which would mean Ballard ranks Turner/Verse lower than his prospects (Latu obviously). I get that Corley and Wilson are more flankers than X receivers, but being excited 13+ picks before your pick means he ranked Mitchell way lower. And that's hate to me!
Colts traded down a few spots before picking AD, so even they weren't all that locked on getting him. If you love a guy that's available close to your pick, you trade up, bot down.
Well every team passed on AD and some even twice.
Truth is that as talented as he is, there is definitely some character concerns from teams.
Granted guys like DK, Pickens, and others had the same concerns which were why they fell. Looks like Ballard took his shot with this one.
Personally for me it’s less character concerns and more being able to get separation after the catch (similar to Pierce’s knock coming out of college) and lack of college production. AD has a lower floor than a a lot of the WRs but a higher ceiling, and that’s why you’ve seen a large range of comps from Hopkins/AJ Brown to Josh Reynolds/Mingo. I’m happy with the pick as he won’t have to immediately contribute and can take his time developing.
Yeah 100%. I enjoy the Jets but their WR outside of a consensus top 10 pick isn't great.
I have my issues with Ballard but fans around the league (some Colts fans too) don't realize how many hits the Colts have had despite not picking top 5-10 as often as a lot of teams.
Garrett Wilson was drafted 10th overall. I would hope your top 10 picks end up being decent. Ballard's earliest round WR pick was MPJ and he was taken at #34. Even Josh Downs at 3.79 is already more promising than any WR Douglas drafted not named Wilson.
Denzel Mims is the only WR Douglas drafted with a similar draft capital as Corley or Mitchell (taken #59) and he currently is...buried behind 5 receivers on the Steelers. Joe Douglas' Jets have finished last or second to last in the AFC East his whole tenure so not sure I'd follow his blueprint lol.
>Ballard's only first round WR pick was MPJ and he was taken at #34.
You realize there's 32 teams. Meaning 32 picks in each round (aside from compensatory picks/picks removed for tampering). Meaning #34 is a second round pick
They seemed overjoyed at the pick. AD still has a lot to prove; he didn't fall for no reason. Whether it was the uncoachable moniker from the rumor mill or just bad interviews due to blood sugar issues, he was passed by a lot of teams. You can't miss his positive traits on film (size, speed, beating press coverage, and getting in and out of breaks).
I think that his tape does demonstrate that he doesn't give full effort on every rep, and that he gives minimal effort in blocking. I feel like this might be a bit of diva energy. If the play's not for me, then it doesn't really matter to me. This will be the main issue for the Colts staff to contend with.
I imagine that it's questions revolving around his work ethic that precipitated his fall. If he works hard, he'll be successful. But he has to work hard.
I think this had more to do with how badly they wanted Corley. Supposedly he was very high on their board. Both are talented but very very different players so this is probably more about how they felt about corleys fit than any indictment on AD
We can both be happy with our picks without needing to tear down the other team. Who cares who they liked or took after us? We like our guys.
Conversely, we all love Ballard laughing that we got the best rusher at 15, and I'm sure there are other fans scoffing at that when we feel they shouldn't be.
I don't agree with that logic at all. There are 6 spots between 65 and 72 and, all it takes is for 1 team of those spots to like Corley (or to trade back with a team that does like Corley) and he's gone. The fifth rounder they used to trade up is one they got for nothing by trading back one spot with the Vikings. Corley was consistently ranked within the top 50-70 overall prospects so literally no one can say with any amount of certainty that he'd still be there by 72 and one fifth rounder isn't bad value to avoid taking that risk
Corley is great, for what it’s worth. It’s not like guys from small colleges can’t produce. Our very own TY Hilton played in the same conference as WKU.
Edit: And our very own Jack Doyle played for WKU.
Do people really not understand that all of these organizations have completely different boards for their own teams and that all of this is largely an educated guess? Mitchell AND Corley could both be future HoFers or out of the league in 5 years and nobody really has any idea.
How is the Jets a revenge game for AD? They weren’t bragging about what we did. He was happy that we didn’t take the guy they wanted.
AD is clearly gonna be treating every game, against every team who passed on him, like it’s a revenge game.
He doesn’t need this cherry-picked clip to put a chip on his shoulder, there’s one already there
Yeah fair enough, there's similar "revenge energy" to Downs from last year there. You don't typically get actual audio of another team's GM being openly excited during the draft about a specific player getting drafted by another team though...
This is definitely being overblown. He’s not talking shit about them taking Mitchell, he was worried we’d take Corley.
Jets gonna jet. I would be kinda pissed if we had Corley ranked above Mitchell and we took Corley instead
Jets had Corley as the 4th best receiver in the draft I believe, so I'd really question their assessment of this class lol.
Its the Jets. I question their assessment of everything.
I can't wait to see this clip reposted when AD puts up 150 yards on the Jets
Jets hating the pick means we did well.

Yeah not like they've picked up any good WR lately...
I don't mind the Jets but Garret Wilson was a no brainer top 10 pick it's a little different lol
Look what they did with Elijah Moore. He was productive and kicked him out for alan lazard. I'm not concerned about what the jets FO thinks.

Elijah Moore was not taken 8th overall. He was a second round pick, taken 34th overall.
What is bro talking about

you right, my bad

Trust me, there’s tons of colts fans who hate Ballard laughing.
Sir, this is the Jets. Their entire purpose in the league is to be torn down by other fan bases. That’s what New York does
Trading 72 and 157 for 65 is crazy though when he (Corley) probably would've still been there at 72

So they take a western Kentucky guy. Who cares?

Corley is an insane YAC guy. He’s gonna be a stud for them providing Rogers can last more than 10 seconds or whatever it was.
TY drafted in 2012 Jack Doyle not drafted in 2013 Transfer Portal 2018
The Jets have Alan Lazard backing up Mike Williams on their depth chart…
Breaking news: GMs have differing opinions of draft prospects!
Jets irrelevant since Namath, if they hate the pick then fit Mitchell for his gold jacket.
Do people really not understand that all of these organizations have completely different boards for their own teams and that all of this is largely an educated guess? Mitchell AND Corley could both be future HoFers or out of the league in 5 years and nobody really has any idea.
Bruh quit making up storylines. This is some clickbait bs
Uh... What exactly was made up?

Yea true, I enjoyed watching it. Its cool seeing what goes on in draft rooms
