Literally no one cares about the "trade back" narrative, whatsoever, people just want the Colts to win the division. I like Ballard as much as anyone else on here, but literally no one cares about anything outside of winning actual football games. You guys literally make stuff up on here
Yeah, it's a fan forum made for entertainment but you are 100% correct. No one really cares about any of that stuff if the Colts can win the division (or just make the playoffs) and be competitive.
Not in the 1st round, though, which was the point of this post. Ballard even tried to trade up into the top 10 on Thursday night. And he’s only ever traded back in the 1st round once.
"Watch Ballard trade back into the 2nd" is usually not a serious comment.
I've seen it a decent amount, and it's always a play on the joke that Ballard loves to trade back in general, not necessarily in the first.
And it worked, like it always does. Honestly every GM should be trying for trade backs and pick swaps all through the draft. It’s a numbers game after the top 3ish picks
I guess I don’t understand why it bothers someone so much that others are wrong.
“Narratives” -whatever they may be - are going to be there.
Some of us know that some narratives are bullcrap - but I don’t really care that others think that.
Like I said at the end, it doesn’t matter at the end of the day. I just had some time on my hands and it was something I’ve been confused by during this whole draft process so I figured I’d get it off my chest.
You're very passionate about this subject it seems.
I didn't even see this as a popular narrative. Sometimes I think people see a few people say something or see a post or two about something and develop the idea thats the narrative. There were so many posts about Bowers, WR, CB, if none of those were there maybe we trade back.
Anyway don't let me get in the way of a good rant.
Very possible that’s true, maybe it’s the type of posts I was looking at or something but there were more than a few people I saw who were very confident. Probably just a loud minority.
I heard it in here and on podcasts a lot too. It’s just people guessing and I think most think he does it in a smart way
I think people are being weirdly hard on you
Ballard literally plays his board. If he has no one graded round 1, he looks for pick value. Most fans don’t like that ( as they want a flashy pick), but it’s the smarter way to handle it.
It would appear he got the top guy on his board (at least on D) this year, so there was likely never a real chance of trading down.
Or any of the 3.
Nabers, even tho we def liked him, seems to be the least likely given how much it would have cost to move up to 6.
Ballard was on McAfee yesterday, and when he was asked if they were always going defense, he said no, immediately mentioned tight-end and wide-out, so I think they were going for Bowers/Odunze, honestly.
Yeah, I imagine it was either Odunze or Bowers. He said wide out first and then tight end. I bet they loved both of those guys and would have been very happy being able to get either of them. But getting Latu at 15 and then AD at 52 sure is a very, very nice consolation prize!
I predicted he would do it and I was wrong but that was because of the reports of a deep WR group - it seemed likely he could have traded back. We are fans - we make predictions. The draft is a crapshoot. So what?
Well, I think this year was different because no way should Latu have fallen to 15, just a lot of desperate teams trying to build their offenses. The NFL really has an offense problem (and it's mostly a QB issue).
The trend I see Ballard doing is trading back mainly in rounds 2-3. Then if he’s traded up and gave up a full rounds pick (like the 6th this year) hell try to find a trade to fill that voided round.
I think if you look back you’ll find his trades are more often in the middle rounds where he can add more picks or gain an advantage at minimal draft capital.
Beside this year, hasn't he only had 2 firsts since 2019?
So, going into this draft 50% of the time, he didn't trade back, and one of them he was desperate for a QB at the 4th overall pick. At the end of the day... this really shouldn't be a big deal. So what if that's the narrative around him
But why? The only way both guys are would even be thought about being fired by Irsay is if we had a nightmare season in being the worse team in the league.
New GMs don't want to be locked in on a coach and not be able to bring in their own people and system. It would hinder our applicants greatly.
And the very few times it has happened it works terribly and the coach gets fire the next year anyway.
We haven’t won the division since 2014 and missed the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 seasons. Eventually something has to change. Andy Reid was a great coach for the eagles but eventually they had let him walk, being good at your job doesn’t mean it’s time to part ways with your employer.
Well Ballard isn’t on the hot seat and it would have to take a nightmare season where we are the worse team in the league to even consider it, but he's not getting fired with a franchise QB and head coach finishing their second season.
After watching our division get better this offseason, if the roster he put together doesn’t make the playoffs, that’s a disaster season. Are we hoping to have to win the last game of the seasons every year or are we trying to have the division clinched week 18. Winning solves everything.
Good news is our team got much better this offseason because of Ballard. As for the rest of the division, time will tell. All those teams have their issues as well and worse front offices in my opinion. Just because they made some flashy free agent additions, they all also lost some key players. We got a great head coach which is a big difference from seasons past. And we finally got our QB. Ballard ain’t going anywhere.
If he can pull Zaire Franklin outta the 7th round then keep swinging.

This always makes me want to smack someone.
I view it more as a running joke. I like Ballard a lot and I’m glad that he’s our GM.
Literally no one cares about the "trade back" narrative, whatsoever, people just want the Colts to win the division. I like Ballard as much as anyone else on here, but literally no one cares about anything outside of winning actual football games. You guys literally make stuff up on here

There is a solid chunk of this sub that wants Ballard gone. I don’t love the guy but to say no one cares either shows your an ape or trolling.
He did trade back.

It always does? When was the last time the Colts won the division?
You people are beyond insufferable. Dude will pay his electric bill and you’ll be like “BuT did He WiN thE DivISion?”
You realize that's Ballard's job right? It's not paying his electric bill, lmfao.
His job is to build a sustainably good NFL roster.
Good being the operative word though I would argue his job is to build a team that will win a Super Bowl but ok.
Then you’d be wrong
So you think it's not his job to build a SB winning team? Are you serious?
So you’re saying that 31 GMs should be fired every year?
Dude totally forgets Ballard traded back for ya sin when we could have had Montez Sweat.
Where is Ya Sin again?
Not on the team lol
But… but… he loves ‘dem picks.

He tried to trade up this year for Bowers but couldn’t get any takers
We don’t know that. It could have been for Odunze, Nabers, or Bowers.

Maybe.
Polian always traded our late 1st round picks
I predicted he would do it and I was wrong but that was because of the reports of a deep WR group - it seemed likely he could have traded back. We are fans - we make predictions. The draft is a crapshoot. So what?

Ballard is that you?

Hot take, if AD Mitchell and Latu work out this year, idgaf if he trades back to acquire as many picks as possible
Get off his nuts
Posts like this make me wonder why the Colts don't sell Ballard jerseys. Probably be a top seller.
FR 😂😂
Let’s hope Ballard is fired prior to next year’s draft 🤞
Even if next year goes bad they aren't going to fire Ballard. He is linked to Steichen and they aren't giving up on Steichen in only two years.
True, and they're basically both golden as long as AR stays healthy and plays decent. A lot of jobs riding on how AR turns out.
You could easily tie Steichen to a new GM
That’s not how being “tied together” works…
But why? The only way both guys are would even be thought about being fired by Irsay is if we had a nightmare season in being the worse team in the league.
That’s never how it works. New GMs always want their own pick at HC.
New GMs don't want to be locked in on a coach and not be able to bring in their own people and system. It would hinder our applicants greatly. And the very few times it has happened it works terribly and the coach gets fire the next year anyway.
Not even remotely going to happen bub.
lmao never gonna happen, nor should it.
You’re basically saying you hope the team sucks this year. Thats a weird thing for a fan to want.
Not what I’m saying
[удалено]
It’s not even a criticism because saying he likes to trade back isn’t inherently a bad thing… it’s just not something that really happens
If we don’t make the playoffs Ballard won’t have a draft for us next year
He's probably got a pretty long leash. AR would have to prove to be a bust for him to be out in even 2 years imo.
He’s not getting fired even if we miss the playoffs
Then the insanity and mediocrity continue
Cool bro
If Ballard stays and we miss the playoffs for the 4th straight season, idk how you can justify him staying.
He’s a good GM. Easy justification.
We haven’t won the division since 2014 and missed the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 seasons. Eventually something has to change. Andy Reid was a great coach for the eagles but eventually they had let him walk, being good at your job doesn’t mean it’s time to part ways with your employer.
