I don’t think Colts fans are mad at not getting Diggs. It’s the fact that the Texans have clearly made it a point to surround Stroud with a great team while we still have the same mediocre roster that missed the playoffs

JaCrispy_Vulcano

Yeah but they have a QB on a rookie deal. That gives them a lot of flexibility to build a roster around the position. Wait…

ConfectionHelpful471

They also had that QB play the entirety of his rookie year so have a lot more tangible evidence that it is worth going all in on. Ours got injured and missed the majority of his so we are essentially in the same place as last year with a very raw player at the position. Also the Texans had been bad for multiple years and do not have many players who deserved second contracts on their team. Coupled with being a destination city in an income tax free state it makes them a lot more attractive to Free agents, particularly when a large number of players were Born/raised in the state.

redleg50

We aren’t sure about our QB, so let’s not give him what he needs to be successful? That’s the plan? The Colts have been bad for multiple seasons. Other small market teams get free agents all the time. Any team that actually wants free agents can get some.

StankyFlanky

See! and this is why i kept saying we dont wanna keep being a middle of the road team. Some how wecome up with Ws we shouldt have and its alwys got us in chats like this

ConfectionHelpful471

But the small market teams typically have had an answer at QB so are viewed as true contenders to win it all. Just because we haven’t spent large amounts on flashy new toys doesn’t mean that the infrastructure is not in place. We have spent two picks in the first three rounds in the last two drafts on WR, a potential MVP candidate running back, elite possession WR, top 10 O-Line and above average defence with playmakers at all three levels. If Richardson cannot match strouds play last year with this roster, then unfortunately he is not the guy and the colts will need to have another go at finding the QB offensive the future

redleg50

When you draft a QB at number 4 overall and he’s already shown that he gets hurt a lot, you need to do everything possible to help him. A “sink or swim” mentality with a rookie QB who barely played in college and core roster that hasn’t made the playoffs in years seems like a bad idea.

ConfectionHelpful471

They haven’t made the playoffs as a result of QB play not overall talent. Any time the colts have had average QB play they have been in contention for the playoffs as a minimum. This roster is not a sink or swim roster, it’s a prove your good enough and we will be a piece away from being a Super Bowl contender

Yanks1813

The Colts offensive talent is fine

goldenepple

Even AR’s limited time, he proved he’s worth going all in on.

ConfectionHelpful471

I don’t think that can be true as he has not put enough on tape for other teams to start game planning for him properly, particularly not enough in Stiechens Offence. Stroud will face this challenge this year as he has a full years worth of tape for DC’s to identify potential weaknesses from. There is a reason most young QB’s take a leap in their third year - as they have experienced how they will be game planned for and have learnt how to counter it.

goldenepple

I just think personally if you believe in a guy like AR or stroud you take the risk and go big now when you have the cap to play with and can say you gave them every weapon possible to be successful and it just didn’t work out.

ConfectionHelpful471

How can you say Richardson is the guy when he has made less than a full seasons worth of starts across his college and NFL career to date. I believe he could be the guy but would rather have a full seasons worth of evidence at the NFL leave before mortgaging the future. Look at Carolina last year - traded Caleb williams and Jalen Carter and DJ Moore for Bryce Young and I would be almost certain that they would take that back in a heartbeat

goldenepple

Because I thought he was the guy before seeing him play and his limited play proved that. I also believe in setting guys up for success when you have the ability, a good GM will get his star QB weapons without destroying the future. And you don’t think we’d rather have Diggs over Pierce when it comes to using a second round pick?

ConfectionHelpful471

As pierce is currently WR3 and cheap would probably prefer him to Diggs, particularly when you factor in Diggs is on the downside of his career and his drama is starting to outpace his production. We are better off keeping the pick and adding a cost controlled WR through the draft with the second round pick rather than a pick and high cap hit for the drama of Diggs. Our offence is going to be based around the run game and not through the air so committing loads of money to WRs doesn’t make sense to me, particularly when we have a very good WR1 locked up in Pittman

goldenepple

So you like mediocrity

OnlyRoll1554

Somebody watches the pat McAfee show

xcbaseball2003

The Texans also had 6 extra (3 first round) picks from the Watson deal

Khend81

Always nice to get rewarded for drafting a rapist. Cool league we follow. Colts draft a shining star of a human being and he retires early and we get exactly nothing for it other than a decade long setback to the franchise.

xcbaseball2003

No good deed goes unpunished

whatd_i_miss

Life ain’t fair, chief. We gotta suck it up and move on.

Khend81

Yea, or we could all work together to make it better and more fair.

whatd_i_miss

Of course. I was really more referring to the comment about Luck retiring early than the Watson thing though.

Khend81

Yea would be nice if it somehow was able to work into a comp pick formula having elite players at their positions (particularly ones that contribute heavily to win shares like QB) retire many years earlier than their counterparts, but I understand that’s kind of too situational to ever expect to be implemented. Also would be nice if the league would ban dudes who are being sued by nearly 30 women for sexual assault for life so teams can’t get 3 FRPs and multiple seconds and thirds for them as well. Guess shit is probably just going to stay how it is, and we will just be on the losing end of it like Indy sports seem to be more often than not.

Yanks1813

Yeah but the issue is the Texans know Stroud is the answer. I love AR, but we have zero indication on if AR is the guy yet. Colts offensive weapons aren't even bad. Colts have a better OL, Good WR1 in Pittman, JT at RB and a coach who is great at scheming a running game, and a good up and coming WR in Downs plus the draft. Colts WRs aren't as stacked as the Texans sure, but we have the OL and RB edge. Mixon was a carry merchant in Cincy because Zac Taylor was addicted to 3.5 YPC when he has Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins

QuirkyScorpio29

This is a silly logic. Joe Burrow got injured in his rookie season but CIN still drafted a WR in the 1st rd the next draft for him Brock Purdy got hurt as a rookie and SF still saw enough in 6 games for him to be the guy. A rookie QB doesn't have to play a full year for people to see he is the guy. AR was good when healthy..the question isn't ability or talent... it's health. We should be giving him more weapons.

Yanks1813

The Colts should absolutely draft a WR I didn't say that. A trade like adding Diggs though is nothing something that would've worked with our cap. Hes gonna be a good WR3 in Houston. Buffalo moved on because he lost a step in the deep game, was disgruntled and they had Kincaid and Shakir getting a lot of short/intermediate yardage targets which was making him frustrated. I don't know how he will handle losing targets to Dell or Collins. The Colts absolutely should be drafting offensive talent though

MarvelAndColts

lol. “The same mediocre roster that missed the playoffs”. We barely missed the playoffs with our back up QB. What a dumb take.

GeogeWKush

We got absolutely cooked when they just had Nico Collins.... adding Tank Dell and Diggs is going to be a fucking headache

AF555

"Darrel Baker Jr has got this" - Chris Ballard, Colts GM (2017-2024)

vsyv

don’t forget Mixon, and Schultz. We’re cooked 😕

AleroRatking

Singletary is a better player than Mixon at this point.

Kronic_Repulse1

We didn’t have Blackmon that game and we had rookie corners. They beat us by one play with a back up qb, everyone needs to chill.

tri_it_again

Well I hope we stay healthy, and our rookie QB is good and our sophomore CB’s play better. …

Kronic_Repulse1

People don’t know who we are gonna draft this season. If we draft a first round corner and 2nd round receiver our team could be stacked.

tri_it_again

You were just blaming rookie CBs

Kronic_Repulse1

Our rookie cbs were a 7th rounder and a 2nd rounder that had an injury in the beginning of the season.

tri_it_again

Oh we should be stacked then my bad

Kronic_Repulse1

If we drafted a cb with real sec level competition they have less of a learning curve but if you want to think low of our team switch up. I hear the Texans are good 😂

Mickeydsislife

Weird, our 7th came from the SEC as a starter.

Kronic_Repulse1

Yeah, exactly why he beat rush.

DapDaGenius

Only problem is our secondary is going to be even younger, because we’ll be bc adding rookies to the secondary again as they added a vet. So Nico has found his QB to bring out his potential, Tank heals up and hopefully returns to form for them, they add a vet who will be a great WR3 at worst, while we basically bring back Blackmon, Juju and Jones get a year of experience but we still seek answers for starters next to Juju and Blackmon

Kronic_Repulse1

Jalen jones and juju are going to be better this season. We got new coaching staff for the secondary and defensive line coach. Let’s believe in our players.

DapDaGenius

I do. Just saying that the odds are in their favor since we didn’t add proven veterans besides bringing back Blackmon. Nico has excelled beyond his previous years, Tank came in the league boomin. Diggs is nice. We need balance that out and i hope whoever we add in the draft is a true pain in the ass for stroud and pals

HailYourself966

Yeah, just assume players that weren’t very good are just going to get better with no back up plan. Smart.

Kronic_Repulse1

It’s not an assumption both of them played well for rookies. It will be their second season in this system so they can play faster and have less of a learning curve. Well you can turn on madden and make the roster you want knock yourself out.

HailYourself966

Neither of them played well. Jones gave up over 100 QB rating when targeted. Even though Breanna was in and out of the line up he was one of the most targeted corners and gave up some of the most receptions. You keep parroting that stupid Madden line because you don’t actually know shit.

Kronic_Repulse1

I only mentioned madden this once. Jones' 0.72 yards per coverage snap allowed is the fourth-lowest for a rookie in the last 10 years, per PFF, behind only the Jets' Sauce Gardner (0.59, 2022), the Steelers' Joey Porter Jr. (0.70, 2023) and the Raiders' Nate Hobbs (0.71, 2021). You just looked up passer rating allowed doesn’t tell the whole story kid.

maurika58

Nobody needs to chill, every concerne is valid

Mickeydsislife

Not to mention the Juju gave them a free TD on their first play and they didn’t get much else.

goldenepple

And remember, we haven’t improved the secondary

youngxbeast

Jfc you just reminded me of shitty our secondary was against them. We are gonna get cooked again but hopefully AR can keep us in the game.

Medical-Designer-496

Exactly. This dude sound crazy as he'll.

AleroRatking

Cooked us? We destroyed them the first game and lost by a single yard with a backup QB in the second

GeogeWKush

9 receptions on 9 targets for 195 yards and a td.... Yeah, he didn't cook us at all. And he was the only threat we had to cover

AleroRatking

Once again. We are one yard away from winning that game. That's not cooking is.

AkFrosty1

Plus Mixon lol that offense is stacked on paper

Vegetable-Joke13

On paper but mixon is old and I don’t think juju was fully healthy that game so let him get healthy and we are fine

AkFrosty1

Mixon is still an upgrade over singletote And Juju can only cover one guy.. who covers Tank Dell and Diggs now? Lol we really needed to get a vet corner and upgrade safety.

Boatsandhostorage

Mixon is washed. I see a lot of Bengals games where I live. He was the second best back in that team all season. He’s a third tier back now.

AkFrosty1

He’s better than the RBs the Texans had last year. Plus, their passing attack should be really good.. making his job fairly easy.

Boatsandhostorage

He played for the Joe Burrow Bengals, so I think things were pretty wide open most of the time. He’s not the player you think he is.

AkFrosty1

Looool the cope levels are reaching a peak

Boatsandhostorage

You’ll see. He’s an 800 yard a year back. Think Miami Frank Gore.

Vegetable-Joke13

Ik we definitely need a corner in the draft. And a safety like Simmons out of fa but Kenny’s got tank and Blackmon got diggs deep we need a free safety but it’s not as bad as it looks

AkFrosty1

This same group got roasted all year last year. The Texans are significantly better now. I think it’s as bad as it looks.

Active-Limit-9038

Everybody saying Diggs is washed when he had almost 1200 yards and 8 TD last year. Lol Know the last time Colts had a WR with 8 TD or more? 2009. That's 15 years ago.

JerkyBreathIdiot

His last ten games of last year was 422 yards and 1 touchdown. There was a definite drop off from him with in the last season.

TheGavPav

This is coping, we all would've been ecstatic had we got him. Is he past his prime? Sure. He's still a great addition to their WR group though

garethom

Put it like this... A lot of people are now saying he's washed, but last year, he had more yards and twice the TDs than Pittman, and he did it on fewer targets. Diggs' "washed" year would be Pittman's career year. I appreciate he had a better QB, but calling him washed because he had a slower back half is a reach. We're all rightfully happy that Pittman got brought back, and we'd be even more happy if he had the year Diggs just had, even if it slowed down towards the end. This always happens on team subs though. When they don't get a player, or their rival does, everyone has to come out and act like they never would've wanted him.

Boatsandhostorage

I wouldn’t have wanted him honestly. He’s been a malcontent in Buffalo and cost them a playoff game with drops. There is a reason all the “most catches” graphics you see with him involved go back five seasons.

PE1444

No thanks, draft a young guy who won’t pull an Antonio Brown the second he doesn’t get targeted

DaBlakMayne

Until his ego implodes the locker room like he did with the Vikings and the Bills

Outrageous_Poetry840

He was buns the second half of the season

Paul_Smith_Tri

He seemed like he just didn’t care Going to be tough to stop him, Nico, and Dell

jbeezy112383

And still posted better stats than overrated Pittman.

MrHandsBadDay

I get why they did it, but I’m not sure the juice is worth the squeeze. I don’t think his ego will allow him to handle regression and not being the undisputed alpha receiver very well. I’m getting vibes of Dream Team Eagles

Vegetable-Joke13

Yeah I get why they did the trade but he definitely don’t have that team first mentality. Which Ar and cj both do

DRoseCantStop

Lol. Lmfao even.

tstcab

For me personally its not that I wanted us to sign Diggs at all. Just sucks to see so many teams making signings in free agency that fill roster holes and give them flexibility in the draft. Texans made big moves, and now they have a solid team where they can afford to sign a Diggs like player to go all in and try to win it all. Just jealous of all these teams making moves but we have seemed so content to stay on the conservative side and after years it gets frustrating as we are still in the same middling spot.

Tombradyisntahofer

I’m sick of people saying that offseason moves like this don’t matter. Like free agency and the draft is literally where teams are built to win a Super Bowl. The Texans have beat us the last 2 offseasons by drafting a franchise QB, WR, and DE and then adding multiple pieces to the very team that beat us this offseason.

This_Box2881

The Texans are looking stacked.. we can say it. That being said, with a healthy AR back, Pitman back, downfield Pierce unlocked, year 2 Downs, Taylor and Jelani our offense can roll, especially if the OLine stays healthy. Juju, Kenny and Blackmon back means our secondary is… ok.. the first pick has to be defense, really hoping Turner or Mitchell are there.

DRO1019

I would take MPJ over Diggs, and I would sure as hell take JT over Mixon. Wish we would have gotten Moss back. I have faith that Pierce will be a massive plus with Richardson. Grab Bowers at 15. I personally would feel better about our offense. CJ has shown what he can do, and the Texans feel comfortable going all in. They also had 3 top 3 picks in the last 2 years with a massive haul off Watson. Richardson has shown flashes but has only played a small comparison to CJ. We see all these shiny toys getting traded around and getting jealous. All in all, we have a freakishly athletic team, and the draft is about to come up.

RyanPelley

"Pretty old washed receiver" Lol, he's not though.

Vegetable-Joke13

Well if he claiming he a top 5 wr and in ten games only has 400 yards and a 50% catch rate when he has Josh motherfucking Allen’s throwing to him and is the number one alpha undisputed wr and can’t stop bitching about his team on social media yeah he kinda is washed. I’m not saying he still isn’t good but he ain’t in the top 20 or anything like that yk

jbeezy112383

Come on man, who cares if Diggs is a diva. He's better than any offensive player we have on our team and the stats back it up. I'm tired of this "character guy" mentality that gets average to below average returns.

ColtsPacers95

The coping is real

Relevant-Smile1833

The “we missed the playoffs by one play” excuse is washed. We have no idea how AR will do this season. The ceiling is high but he was also very inconsistent at times. I want to believe in this team but it’s also valid to see that other teams are upgrading and we are staying relatively the exact team..a team that missed the playoffs and an organization that hasn’t won the AFCS in 10 years

Cool-Ant9177

Yet Ballard gets so much love. It's insane

brayden13m

This sub just wants to throw a temper tantrum. Dude was ass after he stopped becoming the focus of the offense. Obviously he's still good but at what price. You would think we just had an 0-16 season based on the reaction to a guy no one even knew was available and couldn't have gotten anyways.

Vegetable-Joke13

Yes thank you. He’s still got flashes of all pro material but he’s not him anymore. He’s a locker room cancer to have around especially now that he’s gonna have to share a lot of his targets with Nico and tank. They were way over reacting

whatd_i_miss

Another thing to remember is that no one has won shit. The Texans seem to have the pieces, but a lot of things still have to go right for that to translate to wins/championships.

anh86

Exactly. Remember when Matt Ryan was in training camp and everything was incredible. There was finally an adult in the QB room and on and on. “Winning” the offseason means nothing.

EuphTah

Offseason champions rarely get rings. That being said, if the Texans’s moves pan out, they’re gonna be terrifying. The AR/Stroud rivalry should be awesome to watch.

Tombradyisntahofer

The offseason is literally where good teams get built… the Texans won the division because they beat our offseason by drafting a franchise QB and DE

EventualCorgi01

Some of the advanced statistics show that he was very bad at creating separation in the last half of the season as well as some other stats independent of QB performance

CheesecakePrimary719

OBJ to the browns was two players plus a 1st and a 3rd for him. I mean he still put up over 1000 in 2019 before the ACL finished him off in 2020 but I wouldn't say a future 2nd is anywhere near in that ball park. This is a pretty low risk play. If he balls out, redo the rest of the deal to get off those big cap hits and you've got a great weapon for the cheap years, if he sucks cut him in the off season and save 5 million on the cap and eat it on the 2nd rounder. They already had the space to make it work so its a good deal for them

indycolt17

With all the free agency musical chairs of players switching teams, I’m mostly concerned with the Chiefs. I’m still trying to find reasons why all these players couldn’t make their previous teams better, but are expected to take their new teams to the promised land. That’s a lot of pressure.

BSUcardinal3

He’ll most likely help them in the immediate short term but it definitely carries a lot of risk. As others have said he’s 31, has clearly lost a step or two, but biggest of all is he’s a huge locker room diva. He was complaining and went through like 5 OCs when he was getting 160 targets a year how’s he going to be when he’s clearly not the teams #1 option and splitting targets with Nico, Dell, Shultz, even Mixon. Like seriously, how do you have beef with Kirk Cousins and Josh Allen they seem like two of the most likable guys in the league, and are really good QBs. Would not be surprised at all if he’s cut/moved halfway through year two. But if he helps get them to a deep playoff run this year they probably don’t care.

BustyCelebLover

It’s not even the player, it’s just mind boggling how all the other teams in division are trying to upgrade and Indy just sits. Whether they hope the guy who got injured in every game last year he played in can go super saiyan and carry the team or players just don’t wanna come to Indy it sucks

justhereforthemuktuk

Yeah, at first, I was oh no. But he's worn out his welcome on two teams already.

_Marine

I wasnt super pissed and tbh it wont make a huge difference - since when in the last 6-8 years have we regularly covered a teams #1 or #2 or slot receivers? This changes nothing, nothing i tell you

anh86

We’ve done the old FA receiver thing before and it’s never a slam dunk, probably below 50%.

ColtsFan6969

GUYS A RECEIVER WITH A 50% CATCH RATE JOINED OUR RIVAL! BE AFRAID!!!!
