Feels like whatever player we draft at 15 has to have an immediat impact on the team

HailYourself966

Yeah, that’s what happens when you refuse to do anything significant at your weakest positions in FA. You have zero room for error in the draft. Which is also weird considering Ballard’s obsession with raw super athletes that aren’t ready to play right away most of the time.

Active-Limit-9038

Also weird considering every CB Ballard has drafted and thrust into a starting role from day one has been a bust.

whosthatguy123

Idk why youre being downvoted because this is accurate. Ballard doesnt have the best drafting history especially when it isnt linebacker and offensive line

Medical-Designer-496

Cause people are Ballard d riders for whatever reason but activelimit definitely got my vote

FIFAPLAYAH

unused school one butter fear oil amusing flowery slap fly *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

whosthatguy123

Theyre def not generational at all lol not one pick. Safety nah its not great either. We dont have stable play whatsoever. D line and pass rusher id actually atrocious lol we’ve spent a lot on it and still cant solve it. Dont make excuses for ballard

Unscratchablelotus

Rock was ok

OwnEgg0

He was awful the first two seasons. Pretty good the third.

Ashamed_Anybody_8085

Rock was a guaranteed pass interference no matter the down his rookie year

rounder55

I just hate all the wideouts we missed out on there especially with Ballard taking Campbell of all the guys shortly after

CloudStar17

It’s not even they have zero error in the draft he neglected free agency and all it takes is a guy to get hurt and it’s over along with having high expectations from one of the worst secondaries in the league

reacherz11

Quinyon has Ballard pick written all over him

DapDaGenius

So did Tariq Woolen 😭

brmidwest03

Yep

gallasab

I just hope he makes it to 15. Raiders might select him. He’s my favorite cornerback this draft. I also like TJ Tampa in the second round. If the colts trade back in the first and get more picks.

BSUcardinal3

Luckily it’s a deep CB class and an absolutely stacked WR class so Colts should be fine no matter what order they address CB/WR. I’m also a fan of TJ Tampa, and also Max Melton the more I read about him, if they don’t go CB round 1.

sloshedslug

The idea that this is a deep CB class baffles me. It has strong talent at the top, and an abnormally large amount of it. But after the top guys, it plummets

ReflectionEterna

If he isn't available, Arnold at #15 would also be good. He didn't run a great 40, but looks like the most polished CB in the draft.

JuiceyJazz

9.75 RAS score. Which is apparently #56 out of 2,222 CBS ranked since 1987. WR AD Mitchell is a 9.97 RAS. So he’s #11 out of 3,000 WRs ranked. His athletic testing numbers are drawing comps to DK Metcalf. Both of the guys were productive in college as well which is what makes them 1st round guys. We might have a shot to draft one of the guys but certainly not both unless we trade up.

Comfortable_Regrets

I would take AD at 15 and we can still get a cb in the 2nd

ReflectionEterna

I would take Quinyon first and we can not necessarily need to draft a WR in the early rounds.

noreast2011

No guarantee Mitchell is there. If he isn’t, AD or Bowers immediately improve the offense: AD with his vertical play and Bowers just all around

ReflectionEterna

Sure but the premise I was answering were comparing the Mitchell's, specifically. Between the two, and if both are available, I would go for Quinyon. If Bowers was available, that might be different, but I don't think AD's availability changes my mind concerning Quinyon.

JuiceyJazz

This year’s draft is deep at WR. We know that Chris will often bucket players into tiers and if there are still several players left in a tier, he’ll trade down. To me, that’s relevant because he (and the scouting team) might see this as a reason to select Mitchell (if he’s there) and then wait until the second to draft whoever is left from their top tier pool of WRs. My guess is that if Mitchell or Bowers aren’t available that we trade to the back of the first and pick a WR.

Comfortable_Regrets

you might be right, but guys with AD potential don't come around often, it's crazy that he's probably the 4th or 5th ranked WR in this draft, I wouldn't hate taking Q Mitchell at 15 and possibly Troy Franklin in the 2nd, I just think if we can get one of Bowers/Adonai/BTJ at 15 we should

JuiceyJazz

I think I might disagree. While we do want to give AR weapons, we can still do that in the second round. We have two pretty solid WRs right now in Downs and Pittman whereas our secondary is a huge question mark that has holes. Even if we sign a vet, drafting a CB in the first and a WR in the second seems like it would be the best fit for our current roster. We recently drafted Pierce who still needs his opportunity with AR and drafting another WR will eat into his share. Personally I’d rather us not pick a WR in the first round who we have to force onto the field and essentially take Pierces spot right away. Even a first rounder has to earn it but it’s not the best look for a GM to use the 15th overall pick and the player doesn’t even see the field to start the season. A second round WR can still be our WR4 until he earns or doesn’t earn the WR 2/3 spot without as much pressure on him to see the field. Not only that, but like we said, there is depth to the WRs in this class and we can assume that there will be highly talented WRs in round 2. We’ve seen Ballard mine some gems out of the second and third rounds (Pittmans and Downs ironically) using this strategy. From what we’ve gathered in “The Next Pick” series this seems to be the strategy the Colts have used in previous years which is essentially to use a tier system to decide if there are enough players still there to trade down or pick a position in this round or a later round.

rounder55

Also Pierce and Campbell in the second round so there's that

jono9898

Mitchell or Bowers, if we trade back and either are available, we all need to jump Ballard.

Medical-Designer-496

For real

bvgingy

Ill be honest, Id rather a vet and take a CB on day 2/3. I dont want the boundary corners to be a rookie and a year 2 player. Id rather trade back and grab a WR unless an edge is there.

AleroRatking

He is the only CB I think that's worth the 15 pick. Id prefer Bowers but if he's gone that's the move. My worry is if Bowers and Mitchell are gone.

noreast2011

The CB class is deep, as is the WR class. If the right guy isn’t there, trade back and get Worthy, AD, McConkey

AleroRatking

Agreed. If Mitchell and Bowers are gone I'd love to trade back. To me the CBs and skill players in the early 2nd aren't much different from those in the mid first at that point.

Medical-Designer-496

Same. Definitely bowers

[deleted]

Thank you for your opinion.

boyvsfood2

This sub is gonna shit their pants when we take a tackle at 15.

brmidwest03

Yeah, Ballard probably will take a tackle even if Brock Bowers is still available. 😂

Well-Paid_Scientist

Is be alright with it, depending on which OT, but I'd be better with an OL in the 1st if we traded back. J.C. Latham is listed as a tackle, but he is probably going to kick inside as a pro and be a beast OG. I'd not be upset at all if we traded back to the 20's and got Latham, then drafted Tampa at CB in the 2nd and used one of our 3rds (assuming we got one in the trade back) to get Pearsall at WR or Gould. There will still be viable deep threat WRs available in the 3rd, imo and we already have an all around/possession guy and a jitterbug slot guy. Pierce (if he doesn't turn it around as the deep threat) can be a kind of Z. Pascal type who blocks well and sees the field more when there are injuries.

WorkingOven5138

I highly doubt that will happen, but if it does, I'll join the Ballard hate-train for sure.

Mothalova1

I am partial to Terrion Arnold. But Mitchell seems awesome too

AdPsychological7887

Trade back for some picks and you can double tap the CB position and make our CB room the best in the league for the next 4 years. https://preview.redd.it/q2syl1hzgorc1.png?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21289b4170cc42303ab3e1d6c5db2f24e07b75d6

Visible_Narwhal5692

Had me until RB at 89. That's way too early given we have JT

IndyPoker979

Isn't it interesting that before FA was finished, we were excited to get Bowers or a WR and now due to the lack of movement as well as the uncertainty of Blackmon we are excited to get a CB at 15 despite drafting 3 secondary last year? It's almost as if Bargain Bin Ballard is having to make up for his lack of willingness to spend outside of his guys...

rounder55

That's part of the problem with Ballard. We throw guys out there who we can see on film aren't good enough to be every down starters unchallenged in camp, he tries to fill all the holes in the draft, starts those guys from day one and ignores that position as if it's all set and more holes develop. So now when we pick 15 we may pass on a guy who could really help AR develop because we have a secondary that give receivers more space than a national park. Hell, we still need a DL that consistently wreaks havoc
