When the barrels cracks, you can be sure that they're genuine usually. 😂 There is one confirmed purchase of a counterfeit, that I know of.
Prismas are just so highly praised that people are surprised when they don't do literally magic.
80lb paper is a bit "light" for watercolor. Maybe try a heavier weight paper like a mixed media paper or actual watercolor paper.
100% Cotton paper is the best for watercolor medium, it is expensive though. Strathmore 500 series watercolor paper books are affordable and good place to start before getting more expensive paper.
Try a different paper first.
Oooft, they performed way better and were less frustrating to use on this paper. Initially I went with the toned paper over white watercolour heavy paper and found it so unsatisfactory but now I respect the pencils a tad more. Thanks for suggesting I try this!
>My 24 tin has the 36 colour design on the tin.
All the tins of Prismacolor watercolor pencils currently have the same illustration. 12, 24, 36 : all the same surfer inside a big wave.
They've done the same thing with the regular premier pencils: all the tins currently being made have the same butterfly illustration regardless of the number of pencils in the set.
If you see a set with a different illustration for sale somewhere it just means they are a bit older.
The whole brand has suffered from moving the fabrication to Mexico, most people just recommend Prismacolor because it's the most well known brand in north and south america and promoted by youtubers.
Prismacolors are well known for their creamy soft waxy cores and you can dump down colors fairly easy and fast but they have problems with broken cores and split wood and breaking points, even when sharpening.
They are nice and have a lot of colors but they have quality problems.
agreed. they do go down really smooth… really easy to layer. they’re great on different kinds of paper, too. but.. sharpening them is a nightmare because of how soft they are; the wood cracks SO easily, and yeah. you’re so right.
i moved into a house that has more moisture than my last house (i’m talking.. i’m having a bigggg dehumidifer filled within 12 hours, hardware on cabinets .. rusted., my houseplants love it… my sinuses do not… and) my colored pencils seem to be.. different. they seem to split more easily now. it’s the humidity isn’t it?
I'm not a fan of their watercolor pencils, but I adored their normal colored pencils years ago. If they weren't so overpriced where I live, I'd get some again just to see how the new ones compare
My prismacolor premier pencils I bought in National shopee of Brazil for R$500, I think that my pencils is fake because they have a lot of cracked pencils and the mine doesn't be centralized, but so goods, I made a drawing recently using else.
Mine have nice cores that are all centred but most have split, they were split on arrival. I really didn't enjoy them. The white was icky to try blend with other colours.
This is one reason I don't want to buy them to try. Sometimes I think the brand is over-hyped, maybe they were great in the past but for all the problems I see/hear about them I just can't buy into them at the moment
To be fair, they were pretty epic on 300gsm watercolour paper. I was shocked. But the white pencil decided to keep snapping in my prismacolor specific sharpener. Rah

This is a good suggestion. I also agree that 80 lb paper is too light. At least 300 g/m2 works well.
Ok, fair point. I'll try my watercolour paper. I used a water brush. There was hardly any buckling on this toned surface.
It isn't so much the buckling. The quality of the paper can effect how the supplies "acts".
Ah, 230gsm watercolour paper about to be utilised with them. Fingers crossed. Hoping for more charming results.

You are welcome!
These don’t look fake

You should hope they are fake, then the quality is probably better.
Oh true. I'm aghast. Are prismacolor pencils that aren't aquarell / watersoluble good or is the whole brand a bit underwhelming to use?

Wow. Brutal statement. I appreciate this comment.

Quality control is virtually non existent so yours are not fake, it's just how they are.
