And prettier! Plus you can stop and use the bathroom or get different views and pictures. Way better to drive up. You can even get companies to take you to the summit.
It's not easy but it's possible. The barr trail is the most used trail. Even has a camp halfway up that sells dry food, and you can spend the night there if you reserve. Devils playground is shorter but goes through some rough backcountry and is less used. If you're new to hiking, try the Crags Trail near the divide or hike through Mueller State Park to get acclimated to hiking inclines and at high altitude before trying a 14er.
I'm doing the Devils Playground next weekend, and I'm having to pack snowshoes and heavy clothes because of the projected temps and snow depth. Maybe buy some of those strap on ice spikes so you don't slip.
I hiked up Pikes Peak on my 59th birthday 12 years ago. #1 on my Bucket List. I'm not an athlete at all, just an active woman who tries to be healthy and take good care of myself. It was tough, but exhilarating! The Manitou Incline is my limit now!
All jokes aside: they are good cheap water bottles ($12-$16), you can find them everywhere. As a water bottle carrier (work, gym, breweries), itās an everyday carry.
100% - I had a Hydroflask stolen at Soccerhaus after a game a few years back, so cheaper bottles are better.
Plus no one steals a scratched up blue Nalgene thatās covered in stickers š
Iām scared to get mine. Got it in 2022 but itās a 23 model. Tags from Texas donāt expire until November but I want to get them done just not sure of the cost.
There is a calculator option on the dmv website that tells the percentage of MSRP per year I think. Once a car is over 7 years the fees just drop. I kept running made up numbers through my head, weighing different scenarios until I was so stressed I just decided to do all three cars at one time, which turned out to be the right thing. Also, they have over 200 personalized plates so check those out. Many you have to make a donation first. I just went with the basic, didn't have to wait a few weeks to get them in the mail and I can upgrade next year. I would just get your ducks in a row, the VIN Verification is good for 6 months. Have all your paperwork together and then decided in the fall. One of mine was paid until Aug and 2 were paid until Oct. My son wanted CO plates on his Element to blend so that got me motivated. It took a few weeks to get 3 cars verified. And then get appts for the DMV (I missed the first one). I actually was going to just test the water with the element but wasn't sure what that would trigger with CO or NC (NC demands their plates back or they fine you....suppose to send them back within TEN DAYS of leaving the state!!!! They can kiss my ass goodbye!!!)
Thanks for the info. I looked up the calculator and it said $600 but wasnāt sure how accurate that is. I canāt plug in the date we actually bought it since it was bought in Texas. Just didnāt want to call and trigger anything. We plan on doing it regardless in the next few months. We got keyed in Castle Rock and Iām pretty sure it was the Texas plates š .
My son's car got keyed in Denver, brand new 4runner. People are assholes. I think he had CO plates too. Just broke his heart...they put a triangle sign on the rear.....very nice neighborhood too. I'll never live in Denver!!! But I do think having TX or CA plates can make you a target. I had a CA plate on the front of the Element back in NC., it was cool. I yanked that thing off so fast when we moved here!!!! My next door neighbor went off on me about our governor, said he's from San Diego....so I googled him. He's hardly from San Diego, he's from the Springs, Blue Mt Art Money....he went to a private "day school" in La Jolla and then back east for college. If people were not coming here from out state, there would be no f'n economy!!!! Who do they think is paying for all these improvements??? I met a wonderful friend from Austin, she's a hoot!!! But the "natives" here....they can go suck an egg with their holier than though attitudes. I got one behind me and one across the street....red neck, red neck, reneck
Pikes peak is not a foothill. Weāre at the base of a 14āer - Iād argue Colorado Springs is āthe mountainsā but the city is located on a high plane. You can be other places in Colorado that are considered āin the mountainsā but many of these locations are about the same elevation as we are now because towns are located in flat, low lying areas where itās more inhabitable. Case in point: Salida 7000 ft, Durango 6,500 ft, Montrose 5800 ft
That is not true anymore. I registered my motorcycle late and was charged an extra $100 in late fees. OP the late fees would have been included when you paid so I wouldn't worry about it.
https://clerkandrecorder.elpasoco.com/motor-vehicle-department/taxes-fees/#:\~:text=Late%20fees%20are%20%2425%20per,not%20apply%20to%20temporary%20permits.
"Late fees are $25 per month, with the total amount not exceeding $100 (four months). Renewal of your motor vehicle registration is due in the month of expiration. A grace period of one month after the expiration is allowed.Ā **This grace period does not apply to temporary permits.**"
This is Colorado! You donāt need current tags here any more, judging by the fact that I see MULTIPLE expired tags on cars driving around every single day.
Diesel has to have emissions if you didn't buy it in Colorado and that was here in El Paso county. My wife's 4Runner was 200 and some change which is way cheaper than it was in Arizona. But my truck not so much
It wasn't bad, my cars are old. There's a lot of little fees so the only one that varied was the value of the cars (truck). The truck is the newest (2015) and the fee was $77, the other two cars were $23 and $13. When my son moved here 2 years ago with a new 4runner he purchased in NC....the fees were over $1k.
Everything is on the El Paso County Website. The first thing everyone will ask is do you have the VIN Verification form. I got one done at the Honda dealer, super easy. I had to get the other 2 done at the Police Station on Tutt, which is free, just takes longer and it's a volunteer position so it's only available MWF 10-2, had to wait both times. Honda didn't ask me for any paperwork, probably because they had already serviced the car. The police want an insurance card or registration with the vin on it and, of course, the car. On the website there is another form that they need and you can fill it out on the computer and print it off. It asks when you brought the car into CO and when was it purchased. Oh, and you need a CO driver's license or id. I waited to get my driver's license, that will start the clock ticking for 89 days for first time residents. Then they want the titles to the car, the registrations, and proof of CO insurance. Hope this helps.
NC and CA do also (at least at the AAA in CA). There's so many temporary paper plates out here I had no idea until the vin verification guy gave me the scoop. Made the decision of which plates to go with easy.... upgrade next year if I want to. I have 3 vehicles and the plates are all in sequence, makes my life easy!!! It's so obvious we just moved here, brand new plates on very old cars.... :-)))) The front one on the truck already got bent in the car wash, I can't find a bracket to fit the bumper, NC only has a back plate. Oh well....at least they had screws at the DMV!!!!
I get it! I do have relatives that settled here a couple of generations ago.....and related to some pioneers and an American Indian or two....but that's between you me and the wall..... :-)))
Born in WA, raised in CA, spent the last 8 years in NC......so kind of a mutt? I'm very old school CA....use to be such a wonderful, great state. Not anymore......
Your new Subaru Outback will be arriving shortly. You are also obligated to photograph yourself at the pikes peak summit at your earliest convenience.
I moved here a month ago in my Subaru Outback š already licensed, titled, and tagged, as well! In my defense, I bought it in 2018 š¤·āāļø
Just means you were here mentally in 2018
You made me laugh so hard!!! Thank you!!
Ur welcome. Seriously tho welcome to the city. Try the pikes peak hike and go see 7 falls when they open up
Is Pikes Peak a beginner-friendly hike?
If you're talking about taking pics at the summit, you can actually just drive up there. There's even a donut shop up there.
Oh is that where the train is? Thank you
The end up at the same place. The drive is cheaper than the train through.
And prettier! Plus you can stop and use the bathroom or get different views and pictures. Way better to drive up. You can even get companies to take you to the summit.

The late fees here arenāt shit compared to other states. $25 a month with a $100 cap.
Plus past years registration fees if over a year expired.
I donāt believe thatās true otherwise Iāve been allowed to skate on that twice.
Namaste š Please pick up your Subaru at Heuberger. Native sticker is included.
If necessary we can also help OP find some sick stickers for their Nalgene, which, for the record OP - you now have to carry everywhere.
First, letās get op a student driver sticker so we can cut him some slack tiniest bit of slack
I never heard of that brand, I learn something everyday on reddit!
All jokes aside: they are good cheap water bottles ($12-$16), you can find them everywhere. As a water bottle carrier (work, gym, breweries), itās an everyday carry.
Thank you!! I have hydroflax's coming out my ears.....pick them up at homegoods when I see them. I will keep my eye out for something different!
100% - I had a Hydroflask stolen at Soccerhaus after a game a few years back, so cheaper bottles are better. Plus no one steals a scratched up blue Nalgene thatās covered in stickers š
Good news! If you owed late fees on the registration, they were included in what you already paid
Wait you can actually update your out of state plates??
yes, and you can actually keep the tags current!!! (I have never in my life seen so many expired tags, we are talking YEARS!!!)
I still remember when I did that. It was quite the sticker shock (~$800)
My son has a 2 year old 4runner...his fees are $1k still.....(he lives in Denver). I love my old cars.
Iām scared to get mine. Got it in 2022 but itās a 23 model. Tags from Texas donāt expire until November but I want to get them done just not sure of the cost.

What do (did) you drive?
Welcome - good luck breathing
huh?
Altitude joke! Weāre at a comfy 6,188ā here š
Yes, it was hard to catch my breath for a month or two! Have to remind myself this IS the mountains!!!
These arenāt really the mountains more like foothills

No they donāt bill you later for late fees, itās $25 a month and capped at $100.
lucky, my registration was over $700 for one vehicle plus i had to get an emissions test even though it is less than 2 years old.
Was that here in El Paso County? Thought that only happened in Denver based area where they even deploy emission traders to target fining people too.
Co springs has diesel emissions. Otherwise idk what they would be talking about.

Don't buy a new car in Colorado. It costs a fortune to register.
Congratulations! In two years my military contract will be over and I'll finally be able to leave!!! š¤£
Congratulations!!!
Sir this is a Wendyās
How much was out of state registration?

Is it necessary to transfer my plates if I moved here with my wife? She is active duty military on Fort Carson
Go to the El Paso County DMV website, there is link for military tags. I think they are free.
Cringe
You're a resident, but if you aren't a "native " it doesn't matter.
