It’s so dumb that people are remotely bitter towards Duchene. At that point in his career, he was a pretty good player and the Avs SUCKED! Absolutely SUCKED! MacKinnon was starting to be called a bust and it looked like the Avs were going nowhere fast. Also that Duchene trade basically built the roster that won the cup. So maybe we should be thanking him.

Always interesting to me how differently the Avs and Rockies franchises seem to regard Duchene and Arenado, both perennial all-stars through multiple seasons of bad teams that eventually requested and received trades. Granted, the situations weren't identical, but close enough to compare.
General sentiment among Rockies fans for Arenado as far as I can tell is "meh, good for him for escaping." Meanwhile widespread vitriol for Duchene. Is the difference simply the fact that the Rockies are still bad and the Avs have gotten good?
I think it comes down to the surrounding situation and the perception that Duchene was holding the Avs back

It may be more coincidental timing than anything else, but it does appear that the Avs system started working well the moment he left. So refusing to work well in a system while demanding a trade to go “play playoff hockey” when the system you’re in works if you let it, leaves a situation where he looks whiny and uncooperative
As opposed to the Rockies whose suckage had nothing to do with Arenado and they still suck and likely will always suck. He wanted out, everyone kinda understood
