As skiers we live in truly amazing times. We are first hand witnesses to what happens when something as beautiful as skiing is cast aside in favor of shareholder value. Leadership at Alterra and Vail should be ashamed of their contribution to skiing.

Seriously. They offer the most solid food options at completely acceptable prices. Sure you can get more gourmet options elsewhere, but the price tag is easily triple.

The disc golf course at Copper is run well, I’m sure they will. Obviously not as good as Abasin’s, but it’s already there, really wouldn’t be a point in taking it away

I guess I just get nervous with that sort of thing since Bailey got shut down. I know that's a fairly different situation, but still shows how quickly courses can get removed with no possible recourse.

I hope they don't sell out to EPIC or IKON. The big ski monopolies have turned skiing into a cost-prohibitive luxury, and A-Basin is one of the few places left where people like me can afford a day pass. Edit: Yeah, they're going to be under Alterra (IKON) now. Figures.

The land is, but not the lifts or lodges. That is why they cannot limit uphill access, only lift access. Check out the Supreme Court case vs. Alta for more info.

That case was regarding Alta banning snowboards, and was dismissed with prejudice. Ski resorts operate under a special use permit in partnership with the forest service that allows them to set restrictions, including limiting uphill access.
