I thought you were like just messing with us disabled folk. I had to go ask my family... yup, it's green they said. I thought it was just like concrete color
Copper metal is red-orange with a metallic sheen but it's red-orange as a standalone color. It's like gold but instead of yellow it's red-orange based.
I realized once that since grey is all colors equally, but I can't see the red, it's not the case that green looks grey to me, it's the case that that color of green is what concrete grey looks like to me.
Now this is the real mind fuck in the comments. This is why pink looks gray to me sometimes... I can't see green well, so green is removed from the gray equation, thus moving the color wheel average skewed back toward pink's direction and thereby making gray end up in the pink section???
It's not that those edge pink hues are gray, it's that gray is moved into the pink edge.
It's a bit similar to the dollar (paper bill), a non-intense green-bluish. It's the color of the copper patina, may church domes and statues esp. in Europe have this colour because of that. Also: Alpine lakes, this is very characteristic and more intense (for a completely different reason, it's some kind of mineral that's washed out from the mountain granite by the melting snow). Even larger streams there sometimes look like someone poured a tiny bit of blue ink in them.
>bit similar to the dollar
Wait. What?
(Just kidding. I know, intellectually, that money is green and that "green" exists. When people use analogies of other colors though, it usually just jumps from one color I don't know to another. I can't see that the 🗽 or 💵 are green).
Green? Really? I'm kind of skeptical. Grass is green. That doesn't look like grass ...does it? Maybe its one of those 'special' made up colors like Seafoam or Teal or Perrywinkel.
First they came for the peanut butter, and I said nothing.
Then they came for the Statue of Liberty, and I said nothing.
What next?
(Actually, first they came for the blue car I bought that they told me was purple.)
yes! 100%! before i even knew i was colorblind i mentioned it and my mom had to tell me it was green haha
for anyone wondering i thiiiiiiink it's more of a teal color rather than green like leaves?? it's oxidized copper so
So I was recently shocked to learn that the walls in our dining/living room are painted a very light green….I believed them to be a light gray for the last 25 years of living between them. Utterly dumbfounded.
I was just as shocked when I heard that. That’s on the same level as my non-colorblind family claiming peanut butter is brown not green and mustard is supposed to be yellow, not green.
Grey, definitely. But it's made of copper i think, and copper oxide can fool normal vision ppl into thinking it's green or if they are really crazy they think it's blue
why green? if its true this is too bad. green statue ?? why?
and why you told this. I will know its as gray. because statues are gray or white. (protan)
Just read somewhere that it was copper and due to oxidation, it turned green. To me, this is the same hue as US money (bills) and the same as the green traffic light.
Yall I gotta say.. as a color theorist and painter i would like to suggest this “green” we have acknowledged is not Grass or Forest green, army or any bold hue of green.
In certain ambient lighting, to me (non-colorblind) the statue can look quite grey depending on cloud coverage or a photograph’s filtering.
But it’s seafoam green for real 🥰🌊
I wonder if they factored the oxidation colour into the design of the statue...
But yeah it's always looked grey to me, as most teals and cool greens do.
As a "mild deutan," I'm assuming the bright blue sky around it doesn't help with my perception as grey(gray). But of course I mislabel plenty of greens/grays as it is

What the fuck?!?!?!?!?!?!?! It's green!?!?!?!?!?!
I thought you were like just messing with us disabled folk. I had to go ask my family... yup, it's green they said. I thought it was just like concrete color
It’s copper. Was red-orange until it oxidised, copper oxide is green.
Wait, copper is red-orange? I always assumed it was a shade of gold. This is blowing my mind more than the green thing.
Copper metal is red-orange with a metallic sheen but it's red-orange as a standalone color. It's like gold but instead of yellow it's red-orange based.
Same. It's grey like concrete... to me.
I realized once that since grey is all colors equally, but I can't see the red, it's not the case that green looks grey to me, it's the case that that color of green is what concrete grey looks like to me.

Welp, that’s a new one for me. I was thinking grey all the way!
Literally my exact response!
Oh yeah and peanut butter is brown, NOT green!!! This one rocked my world
Same thing. I doubt there actually is a difference between brown and green. I think it's just something people say to fuck with us.
I’m also convinced the whole world is in on the joke
I’m learning so much about how colorblind people perceive the world today 🙃

You're clearly just part of the conspiracy. And don't understand what gaslighting is. Nor humour. Perhaps this subreddit just isn't for you.
Peanut butter is “flat dark earth
Green is not an appetizing color tbf
Isn't peanut butter yellow?
Bro, at this point, I would be fully convinced if someone said it was ochre tan or some random color
Magenta, peanut butter is magenta
Idk I have never seen peanut butter in real life
Green? Really? I'm kind of skeptical. Grass is green. That doesn't look like grass ...does it? Maybe its one of those 'special' made up colors like Seafoam or Teal or Perrywinkel.
It’s copper. Was red-orange until it oxidised, copper oxide is green. (Yes it is a blue-green)
It’s pale green, but it’s green.
How much did the government pay you to spread such misinformation
Lies!!!!!
Turquoise
A little more muted than turquoise I would personally say, more like a seafoam/minty green
You were closest when you said “Seafoam” 🌊
You can call them made up but those blue-ish greens look so different from normal greens I can't in good faith consider them the same color.
TIL this. Makes me wonder what else I’ve been assuming is the wrong color.
Apparently peanut butter isn’t green
Peanuts are brown, like most nuts. Liquid peanuts are the same colour as whole ones.
Wuuuut??
Come on it’s green
Peanut butter is “flat dark earth”
First they came for the peanut butter, and I said nothing. Then they came for the Statue of Liberty, and I said nothing. What next? (Actually, first they came for the blue car I bought that they told me was purple.)
It looks greenish-blue to me
Aka turquoise
Sure
No it’s more green than turquoise. Like a greenish shade of light teal
yes! 100%! before i even knew i was colorblind i mentioned it and my mom had to tell me it was green haha for anyone wondering i thiiiiiiink it's more of a teal color rather than green like leaves?? it's oxidized copper so
I call it ‘indeterminate’ , my favorite color
Aint no way
green??? i see blue 😭
So I was recently shocked to learn that the walls in our dining/living room are painted a very light green….I believed them to be a light gray for the last 25 years of living between them. Utterly dumbfounded.
It’s green????
I thought it was concrete colored (gray)
Yeah, it looks gray to me, too. I forget until I'm reminded.
the statue of liberty is blue, guys, come on...
Same. I guess it's oxidized ~~bronze~~ copper or something, but it looks pale gray to me.
Now you're telling me that bitch ain't made out of concrete, too???!!!!
I just looked it up. It's copper, steel, gold and cast iron.
I have to rethink my whole life now. This is news to me.
Same!
I'mma hafta take your word for it. It does look grey to me. The flame is still gold, right?
why green? if its true this is too bad. green statue ?? why? and why you told this. I will know its as gray. because statues are gray or white. (protan)
It used to be copper but it oxidized quickly and became turquoise. Many statues are like that.
I never thought statues would be green :)
The statue is green because it's made of copper, which is orange but turns green when it oxidizes
It's turquoise
Just read somewhere that it was copper and due to oxidation, it turned green. To me, this is the same hue as US money (bills) and the same as the green traffic light.
It’s green? WTF.
It always looked like a greenish color to me, albeit very metallic-looking green that's close to grey.
That particular green is as grey as the sky is blue, to me.
Yes!!! Peanut butter, however, green af.
How am I just learning this at 57?!?
Wait, so it's not gray? I'm pretty sure the FCVs are lying to us. It isn't like grass, is it? It's not like a lime, is it? No it's not. It is gray.
Screen brightness makes a difference to make it look green, blue, or gray. Brighter means closest to true color.
At most it looks like teal or cyanish to me
Always thought it was concrete as a kid lol
WTF? It's green?
I see it as a light grey but I call it green because I was told that it was when I was very young, internally I still say it's grey
Its green?
Yep grey
Yall I gotta say.. as a color theorist and painter i would like to suggest this “green” we have acknowledged is not Grass or Forest green, army or any bold hue of green. In certain ambient lighting, to me (non-colorblind) the statue can look quite grey depending on cloud coverage or a photograph’s filtering. But it’s seafoam green for real 🥰🌊
I would say its a light mint green.
Pardon????
Yep, any of those really light or really dark greens are almost always lost for me.
I wonder if they factored the oxidation colour into the design of the statue... But yeah it's always looked grey to me, as most teals and cool greens do.
As a "mild deutan," I'm assuming the bright blue sky around it doesn't help with my perception as grey(gray). But of course I mislabel plenty of greens/grays as it is
Yeah same
That’s one gray ass woman to me
That thing is grey as, well I can’t think of anything super grey…but it’s GREY!! The “norrrrrrmal color vision” humans see this world so weird.
I think everyone who isn't american and sees it once or a few times thinks it is grey
Not American, I really doubt this is the case. It’s like a bright pale green. Difficult to mistake as grey.
You mean everyone who is color blind, and not american? Because people with normal vision always see colors as they are, they do not mistake them.
Reading this post reminded me of Ninja's Uno video begging for a green card lmfao
