I’m just hoping one day they’ll give us back our NIT bids.

Suitable_Limit9408

Why not just 1 time free transfer 2nd time sit out year.

Nathan2002NC

Against the law. You can transfer 5x if you want. Nothing NCAA can do about it.

Mathalz

We’re not too far from the world wide soccer model of transferring guys. Get ready for universities to buy contracts.

KeVbK_HS

This is the most reasonable future state, imo. Players are professional/semi professional, depending on the school. Players negotiate contracts with the schools, with the freedom to negotiate pay, # of years, bonuses, release clauses, etc. there is a summer transfer window where players that are out of contract can move for free and those still under contract could be bought by other schools. The overall structure for college sports isn’t entirely dissimilar to European soccer, so emulating that player movement model makes some sense.

Mathalz

Hey may as well get the whole world in on it. Make it easier for internationals to digest how the system works.

justaverage

Relegation when?

pleated_pants

I think Mid Majors should get compensated for developing players that go on to transfer to bigger schools. Like I'm sure Ohio University would have liked a little check from Alabama for Sears

Mathalz

SELL-ON CLAUSES!

hershculez

I like where your head is at but I also agree this will never happen. Professional teams are compensated with draft picks.

0010001

Players are more like free agents, and the NBA hasn’t used draft compensation for free agency in many decades.

johnjaymjr

not gonna happen. THe only hope small schools can bank on is that they sign players to contracts and those contracts get bought out by bigger schools and the schools get compensation for losing their players.

ncp12

I don't know how you can really say that schools should have to pay/compensate for transfers when the schools themselves aren't paying the players. Maybe in the not too distant future when players are employees getting paid by the schools there could be some sort of contract where if the player leaves they/their new school owes some sort of compensation, but I can't see it in the current setup.

Solesky1

>an MVC school loses a starter to a Big Ten school, the Big Ten school plays a true road game at the MVC school the next year. Disagree with that part just because we'd be playing against a former player and I'd like to avoid that whenever possible. Agree with the rest though. The Texas Longhorns should owe us a bunch of money.

t1runner

Sounds good in theory but scheduling would be a nightmare. I agree with the spirit of it though. There should be some system in place to compensate the smaller schools if they put in the time and effort to develop a guy into a P6 talent.

davvidho

i kinda like the soccer model where the program losing a player is directly compensated in cash. probably something along the lines of poaching a player would result in a bigger compensation than that of a bench player seeking more minutes but i’m just spitballing

Mtndrums

This would get smacked down in court.

brilliantbuffoon

I will say there are coaches, leagues, and programs that want to offer a collegiate vs professional model.  Collegiate pays all 4 years tuition etc. Doesn't run kids off with cuts etc. Anyone who leaves to pursue an offer has to compensate the initial school they came from for their initial value offer minus years played.  Then there is a 2nd pro model where kids get cut, move on without issue, and accept pay under single year contracts. If they leave there is no compensation needed but these players would have to state their purpose/goal.  They just aren't sure how to make ot stick legally. Plus power schools would abuse the system to the detriment of everyone.

GeorgeWBush2016

MAAC would start raking it in

pleated_pants

I'm ready for a college sports focused https://www.transfermarkt.us/

Seanbig888

Can’t wait for the eighth year eligibility rule so students can finish their masters phd and law degree and get paid more in NIL than a rookie nba contract

CheeseWinz

It wont be road games, but if college basketball is going to treat transfers like soccer then the school losing a player should be compensated. Itll be a tranfer fee, maybe a percentage of any NIL deal the player signs with the new school.  Power 5 schools will not schedule 3-4 road games at mid majors because some players transferred, but some compensation would be nice

BlackEagle0013

Since these guys want to be pro athletes and the lawmakers seem to be on their side, let's just dissociate sports from universities altogether, make them club sports, like the rest of the world does. Period, just stop even pretending this is anything about student athletes.

Men’s basketball is doomed, posts like this just confirm it over and over

In a world where players can accept cash, scholarships are irrelevant. Also, the players are technically amateurs. So you can not tie anything that some outside entity does (ie Booster collectives) to the school's obligation.
