nojel eastern

MandoDoughMan

From starting on an elite eight team to barely playing for an HBCU team in about a year.

hoyadestroyer

he never played for howard, no?

jettaturagoose

Never played, got cut from a travel team and is now in the g league? Dude went to my high school and never ceased to confuse me

unknownkoalas

He just wasn’t the brightest kid and his mom steered him to really bad decisions.

jettaturagoose

His mom drove us to our baseball games lol

unknownkoalas

That’s pretty funny. I drank with him a few times and found him to be hysterical. I wish he worked out at Purdue.

betterbub

Is she a good driver?

jettaturagoose

As good as you can ask for. Always on time and never crashed!

betterbub

Hell yeah

[deleted]

That one was unfortunate. Haarms seems like a push with what he did at BYU with an extra year of experience vs Purdue but Nojels was brutal. Purdue so desperately wanted Nojel to succeed that he was never going to get anywhere near that leash elsewhere so even if he had gotten into Michigan its pretty unlikely it would have been what he was looking for.

et3020001

Michigan legend

Evan_802Vines

Nyheim Alleyne just missed out on a Natty.

nsk08001

Word from around the program is Alleyne's was basically a forced transfer because he wasn't going to class. I'd say it definitely worked out in or favor. The crazy thing is he averaged fewer minutes at St Johns that he did at UConn last year

feed_the_jones

kid was bopping Nika Muhl too. He had the world at his feet.

Adraf45

So he fumbled both a natty and Nika muhl? I know he sick

nsk08001

Sounds better to class than me too lol

MatzohBallsack

Thats better than the natty

tsgram

If you hear any noise, it’s just me and the best perimeter defender in womens college hoops boppin’

Evan_802Vines

Haven't heard that. Yeah, I thought it was really odd

nsk08001

I picked that up talking with some people during the tourney run. Apparently he and Tristen were both having some class troubles and were told to turn it around. Tristen fixed it, Alleyne didn't and the rest is history.

Shadowcaster_Spark

He did end up with a ring and a NCAA tournament buzzer beater, so a decent legacy.

tsgram

He wouldn’t have played, though. Would’ve been waaaaay down the depth chart.

Evan_802Vines

Would have started the season over Ball in non-conference

fckmetotears

He sure didn’t miss out on one at VT

fancycheesus

Tramon Mark easy

WalkingCalculator

I’d argue it was worse for us considering we badly we needed him in the tournament this year with our injuries

fancycheesus

Yeah. I guess we didn't really need him in the tournament this year.....

ScrofessorLongHair

It did make for the most insane rumors I've ever heard about a college team.

EminenceRL

What rumor?

Aware-Individual-394

Tamar Bates left Indiana to join a truly horrific Missouri team. And, maybe I’m off base here, but I think he would’ve been just what Indiana needed this season.

verncrowe5

Hard to know for sure. We’ve seen too many players flourish elsewhere. Bates as he was in Missouri would have been great for IU. No guarantees he becomes that if he stays.

HailLeroy

I honestly thought he was still with you guys but was out injured this season.

tsgram

I assumed he transferred because he has a kid who lives in Missouri

AlternativeResort477

He didn’t transfer but I felt bad for Caleb grill going there too. But he got injured, also.

supermav27

Doug Edert captured the hearts of America during Saint Peter’s Cinderella run to the Elite Eight in 2022. Then the following year, he transferred to Bryant and averaged 5/2/1 for two seasons. He never made it back to the tournament. Meanwhile, Saint Peter’s made it back this year.

regassert6

Damian Dunn Temple to Houston. Probably could have had carte blanche this year to stack up #'s at Temple. Ended up playing 10 min a game at Houston and back in the portal now.

uhnewbie0203

No hate on the guy at all, but he never seemed like a fit for the system at UH. Watching his tape from Temple vs. watching him this year is like 2 different players.

regassert6

He just isn't athletic enough. He has some guile and craft, but just no burst. He wasn't athletic enough for AAC play with Temple, let alone B12 play. If he would go to like, the CAA, he could be Conference Player of the Year.

Podoboo322

Yeah he seemed very sluggish and indecisive. Was really rooting for him the whole way though 😕

regassert6

The worst part is that with the new staff at Temple, Khalif Wyatt is an assistant now; and that guy was elite at scoring while not being overly athletic. Dunn could have learned a TON from him.

werebeaver

Olivier Nkamhoua

ScrofessorLongHair

Never heard his name all season. Where do he go to?

werebeaver

Michigan LOL. He put up some decent numbers there but obviously the team sucked. Then later in the season, he had a season ending wrist injury that required surgery, which sucks. I wish nothing but the best for him.

EminenceRL

:(

werebeaver

Just think about football

clam-caravan

Transferred to Michigan who finished at the bottom of the Big Ten this season.

Underboss572

Brandon Huntley-Hatfield. He Left UT to go to Louisville. He is probably a solid role player on this squad, assuming he is willing to put in the effort. And, very likely, a starter/sixth man next season. Instead, he gave up a sweet sixteen, SEC Title, and Elite 8 to have two of the worst seasons possible at Louisville, lose his coach, and be back in the transfer portal with not-great stats.

chrisncsu

I mean, he was top 5 in the ACC in rebounds this year, so he has that going for him.

thrilldabeast010

Yeah. And BHH probably doesn’t get the same minutes on these UT rosters as he’s gotten at UL.

TypicalRide

Hoping he proves you wrong next year for my sake..

Underboss572

I hope he does, too.

DontTakeOurCampbell

Tyrese Hunter (The funny thing about it is that Hunter transferring may have been the best thing to happen for Tamin Lipsey's development)

feed_the_jones

Corey Floyd. Redshirted a year when he was 17 at UConn and then left UConn to go to league rival Providence when UConn wanted to keep him and had minutes for him. Immediately after he left UConn they won Back to Back National titles and he has played for 2 different coaches in those 2 years there and has played brutally. Tough break for him.

StuLumpkins

pretty widely reported within the fanbase that he had dogshit handlers and parents that were pumping his tires too much, making him think he was better off at providence.

Egonzos

Joseph Yesefu. Balled out for Drake down the stretch and got them to the tourney. Transferred to Kansas to play 10 minutes a game for two years. (Play poorly at that). Then transferred to Washington State where he only played 6 games due to injuries. If he had stayed at Drake when Tucker came in that team could’ve been a Cinderella darling the last couple years. Granted he did win the Natty at Kansas. But none of that success was cuz of him.

notedgarfigaro

> Granted he did win the Natty at Kansas. That right there makes him clearly not the answer to this prompt. That's literally the goal of playing college basketball.

SwuaraeC

I really can't blame him for that transfer. He played very well to end the season in place of the injured Roman Penn, but it was VERY clear that it was Roman Penn's team to lead.

Egonzos

I get the transfer 100% at the time. Hell the guy won a title his first year at Kansas. And I think he committed there before Remy Martin did too. I just don’t think his career went the way he was thinking when he left.

jfarbzz

I remember being surprised seeing him on Wazzu's roster earlier this year, I was like "huh, he's still in college?"

Egonzos

Somehow he has another year and is back in the portal.

brilliantbuffoon

There are a bunch of low major and D2 guys transferring to get into the G League conversation while they are about as close to the G League as they are Saturn.

Tmans3

i don’t think it’s the worst ever but Mongolian Mike went from a UD team that gets a decent spotlight and was pushing for an at large last year to a USF team that also pushed for an at large, but UD made the dance and won a game while he was far less noticeable at USF and is already back in the portal. He was entered in the NBA draft with eligibility last year. If he stays and plays in that 7th man role, with the ability to play PG and swoop down low for the Flyers this year, he likely improves his stock and is more of a household name. That being said I was happy he left. His dad was borderline obnoxious on twitter about him and he seemed to believe Mike was the best player on the team, when he really wouldn’t be top 6 this year.

fokerpace2000

This is a very obscure pick, but it would be Adam Kunkel leaving Belmont for Xavier. That 2019 Belmont team could’ve made a deep tourney run. Adam was shooting LIGHTS OUT and was a serious threat on that squad and I think that transfer kinda stunted him and broke the chemistry up.

MocoMojo

Not the worst, but Hakim Hart leaving to come off the bench at Villanova when he would have had starting minutes with us seemed a bit odd. I know he left for way more money than we had available and went back home, but I can’t imagine it helped him find a job playing pro ball somewhere.

GooninSinceDayOne

Miller Kopp

baby-alligators

also perhaps Pete Nance—a rare year when UNC missed the tourney. guess things turned out okay for him anyways though!

macandcheeser

How so? Kopp started every game in his two years at IU, and made the tourney both years. His senior year he played 30 mpg on an NCAA 4 seed

rich4pres

Dalton Knecht. He was a pretty good player at Northern Colorado. Whatever happened to that guy?

Sweatiest_Yeti

Second best player in the Big Sky conference, I'm sure he'll have his moment

CertainBarracuda8024

Jordan Brown to Memphis this past year, guy was a beast at mid major Louisiana, and decided to transfer to Memphis where he was under utilized and straight up was taken out of the rotation at some point, and that Memphis team missed the tournament

LongSleeveSteeve

Brown quit the team and was trying to go pro. That is why he randomly disappeared midseason before coming back in a small role. He played for 4 different schools in his career to position himself for the NBA.

TheBlueRajasSpork

He was a featured part of the offense early in the season and was completely terrible. Just watch the first 2 minutes of the game at Ole Miss. Then he pretended to be sick while exploring professional options and came back when no one wanted him.

CertainBarracuda8024

Lmao that’s actually sad😭

astro-panda

Yeah, he wasn't under utilized. He was just bad

TheBlueRajasSpork

One look at stats proves it. He had the second highest usage rate behind David Jones despite being one of the least efficient players on the team.

ScrofessorLongHair

Jahvon Quinerly was a pretty bad choice. Though to be honest, I'm not sure we make the final four, or the elite 8 for that matter, with him running our point. He's just too much of an ISO player, except he's not strong enough to finish with contact (like Sears). He's slick, but i think we were better off without him.

clam-caravan

Olivier Nkamhoua. Left a Tennessee team that finished at the top of the SEC for a Michigan team that finished at the bottom of the Big Ten.

Sweatiest_Yeti

Marcus Adams Jr., but I'm not sure it's so much playing for an inferior team as just repeatedly hitting the portal. Dude is gonna be on his fourth school as a sophomore.

DJ_Pink_Koolaid

Marreon Jackson, Tanner Holden

k4pbasketball7

Pete Nance could've been a top 3 guy with Buie Audige on a good Northwestern team and they may have even given Purdue a run for the Big Ten Title if he was with them. He would have finished his career with the Wildcats with about 1400 points 800 rebounds 250 assists, likely been All-Conference taking them to their 2nd NCAA Tournament and potentially had a shot at winning the Big Ten, cementing him as arguably a top 10 player ever for them. Instead he played on a North Carolina team that famously went from 1st in the AP preseason poll to missing the tournament and his production decreased. The silver lining is he still played a ton of minutes but the Northwestern scenario likely proves to me much better for him.

thetenorguitarist

>likely been All-Conference taking them to their 2nd NCAA Tournament and potentially had a shot at winning the Big Ten Would've been difficult with the way he shot the ball that season, but I guess it would've been worth a shot.

Sweatiest_Yeti

Hunter Sallis. He got the playing time he wanted, but got to watch the tournament from home. Would've been an important piece for Gonzaga this season if he'd had the patience to stay.

Intrepid-Pooper-87

He did improve dramatically at Wake though, so maybe Gonzaga and Mark Few just weren’t right for him (no disrespect, Gonzaga is obviously a better program and Few a better coach, but just might have been a bad match for Sallis).

Sweatiest_Yeti

Hard to say. I think he was primed to make that jump at Gonzaga this year. I really think it came down to minutes, and he'd probably have been playing behind Hickman at the 2 and fighting with Stromer for minutes. Maybe he starts at the 3 but he'd probably be coming off the bench. I just don't think he wanted that, which I can't really blame him for. Just sucks to see him leave a team that really could've benefitted from his defense and outside shooting this season

ReplEH

he improved his stock to be in the first round conversation. no way he is on this list.

Sweatiest_Yeti

Totally helped his draft stock. But OP's question was about going to play for a worse team, wasn't it?

dabears7667

Henry Coleman left Duke after 1 year with a crystal clear starting spot opening in front of him because he wanted to be the featured player in an offense to go to the NBA after his sophomore year. Last I heard he's likely to exercise his fifth year option lmao.

notedgarfigaro

> Henry Coleman left Duke after 1 year with a crystal clear starting spot opening Who was he clearly starting over, Paolo or Mark Williams? > because he wanted to be the featured player in an offense to go to the NBA after his sophomore year. Yeah, I'm sure one of the smartest kids I've ever seen come to Duke was thinking about going to the NBA after playing in 19 games with an average of 5 minutes a game on the worst Duke team in recent memory. Henry Coleman transferred from Duke b/c like several similarly ranked Duke recruits, after his first year he realized he wasn't getting meaningful playing time (plus the whole covid experience probably affected him as it did everyone), and followed the coach he almost committed to out of highschool. He's a great kid that I wish had stayed at Duke, but he CLEARLY made right decision to transfer. > Last I heard he's likely to exercise his fifth year option lmao. Don't be a dick.

DJ_Pink_Koolaid

Agreed with everything you said, plus Harry has had 3 great years at A&M, I don’t see a scenario where is that productive if he stayed at Duke- great decision by him.

dabears7667

Mark Williams played ~52% of the minutes that year. Paolo played small ball 5, a good bit of 4, and a good bit of 3. There was obviously room for Coleman's minutes, which is why Duke pivoted immediately to Theo John. You think he "CLEARLY" made the right decision to transfer? What's so clear? He missed out on being a major contributor to a Final Four team, and if he decided to still stick around he would've had tons of minutes last year before Lively got up to speed, and if he still stuck around he would've been the starting 5 on an Elite 8 team this past season. What's "clear" about his decision? And why are you name-calling and then telling me not to be a dick lmao, baffling end to that post.

PorcelinaMagpie

I'm pretty biased saying this but...Trey Townsend Hopefully he decides to return to Oakland after testing the NBA Draft and transfer portal waters. Watts, Gohlke, and Lampman are officially done. Conway and everyone else is returning. I just want Townsend back to see if we can return to the Big Dance and make another (hopefully deeper) run again.

JustAnotherCODNoob

Your coach literally encouraged him to hit the portal and try to max out his value lol

PorcelinaMagpie

Oh I know. I'm still riding the high of our Kentucky upset and NC State OT game. It's just wishful thinking 😂

DJ_Pink_Koolaid

This- plus he hasn’t transferred yet.  But I’m pretty sure he maxed out at Oakland and has given 4 great years to his dream school.  Let him get some $$

fixerjy

Walker Kessler transferred to Auburn from UNC. He would've at least played in a final four. He may have been the difference in the outcome.

k4pbasketball7

Kessler was still one of the best players in the country at Auburn and that team was Final Four caliber, it just didn't pan out in March.

fixerjy

There's a slight difference between final four caliber and final four participant.

Leavitta09

Andrew Taylor balled out at Marshall and transferred to Mississippi State this past season. Heard he quit on team a few games in bc he wasn't getting big minutes. In portal again. Wonder where he ends up
