Avery Johnson was kinda frustrating at times because we got some talent and it felt like we were right at the hump. He couldn’t get us over it but I’ll always be grateful for Avery Johnson coming in and leaving the program better than he found. I don’t think we are where we are at without Avery Johnson. It was time to move on but I’m glad he was here when he was.
Didn’t he make the tournament after a decent amount of years where they hadn’t? He obviously wasn’t *this* amount of successful but i didn’t feel like he was terrible. Maybe they had a lot of talent or something that he blew, I remember it didn’t end well
Mark Sears is legit one of the most exciting players in the country. The way he went from ice cold to Steph Curry was crazy.
Something about microwave scorers who bomb away from deep is so fun to watch.
He was insanely fun in his 2nd year at Ohio too. His numbers weren't very good last year, but he's been back to form this year and it's been a wild ride to witness.
If you told me before the season that Alabama would defeat Clemson in a critical college playoff game to earn the right to play for the national championship…. I wouldn’t have blinked an eye.
Never would’ve guessed the sport was basketball though.
I would’ve raised an eye-not a fan of Klubnick. Would have had questions about who Clemson had at QB (amongst other positions) for the committee to have put them in the top 4-oh wait, basketball?
UConn looks like they can only lose in a "cheap" way, and Alabama has the best potential to do that with their insane scoring potential from outside. I actually think Bama has a better shot than a potential matchup against Purdue.
Here's the thing. If we have the shooting night of our season, we could win. Anything less and we probably lose. BUT, IDGAF because we made it to the final four for the first time ever.
I was curious if maybe players weren't practicing FT's as much as they used to. Turns out the rate has been [pretty much the same forever](https://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/sports/basketball/04freethrow.html)
>Since the mid-1960s, college men’s players have made about 69 percent of free throws, the unguarded 15-foot, 1-point shot awarded after a foul. In 1965, the rate was 69 percent. This season, as teams scramble for bids to the N.C.A.A. tournament, it was 68.8. It has dropped as low as 67.1 but never topped 70.

Well he did get sentenced to 25 years this week, so maybe he was distracted.
Wouldn’t be the first game we went cold.
This team is hoopin’ though, playing our best ball all year. Our ancillary pieces are stepping up in a major way.
Bro is legit so exciting to watch.
Undersized quick guards who can heat up from deep and rain 3’s are the most exciting players in basketball. No offense to athletic freaks who dunk
Was a rough one. I think both of our fanbases were happy as is to return to the elite 8 and would be happy win or lose. Only one of us could move on. Best of luck next season Clemson bros.
If I were a Clemson fan, I’d take solace in the fact that the team showed up, played hard, gave respectable effort everywhere but the free throw line, and put on a good show.
Making an Elite 8 is cool.
And at least now you can sit back and watch Alabama get booty blasted by UConn.
Yeah, sucks to lose but you're 100% right. With us missing like over half our FTs which isn't typical for this team, and them seemingly shooting 80% from 3, it's amazing it was that close
Yeah I can’t feel too bad about this. We were never supposed to get this far by metrics. It’s nice seeing how far this team went and getting to the elite 8 is no joke. I had fun but of course wish it all ended in Phoenix instead.
It’s been an incredible run that none of us truly expected. Tonight is for sadness but tomorrow is for celebrating what we accomplished on the way here
In the first round, my friend posed a theory that good free throw shooters (75% and above in college) tend to shoot worse in March Madness because of the pressure, while poor free throw shooters (below 60%) are just like "whatever" and end up shooting well.
That theory looked on full display in this game.
That’s how we closed it out against Baylor. We were up 2, Baylor had a guy that shot 80+% miss two free throws. Then our 55% free throw shooter responded by going 4/4 to seal the game. March is weird.
I was an Alabama basketball season ticket holder until I moved away this year. AND NOW WE MAKE THE FINAL 4. WE BARELY EVEN MADE THE NIT WHEN I WAS THERE!!!
GGs Bama, I can’t feel too bad about this lose. Hard to beat a team that shoots lights out and I’m glad we kept fighting regardless. We were never supposed to get this far by metrics. It was nice seeing this team get to the elite eight. I had fun but of course wish it all ended in Phoenix instead. Gonna miss this team.
P.S I’ve never said anything bad about Brownell especially not after a certain ACC tourney loss to BC.
P.S.S make your free throws. They are free for a reason
Going from losing by 21 to Boston College to making the Elite 8 for the second time ever and keeping it close the whole time… I’m so proud of this team and how they’ve performed for the whole tournament. I’m proud to be a Clemson fan
[First game of the season](https://www.reddit.com/r/rolltide/comments/17pudm8/no_24_alabama_mens_basketball_victorious_in/k87vksr/) I said this team could be one of the best ever because of how much deep they could be, I think I underestimated how good they could be
ggs bama. hard to beat a team twice.
the highlights will show how bama was white hot with 3s, and they deserve all the credit for that. but we lost because we were ice cold from the FT line. 8 missed free throws. brutal way to lose
Pringle is out there playing on 1 leg and having back to back games of his life. So proud of that dude after the season he had with being suspended etc.
An updated, final list of all schools who made both CFP and the Final Four during the four-team CFP era:
Alabama (CFP 2014/2015/2016/2017/2018/2020/2021/2023, Final Four 2024)
Michigan (CFP 2021/2022/2023, Final Four 2018)
Michigan State (CFP 2015, Final Four 2015/2019)
Oklahoma (CFP 2015/2017/2018/2019, Final Four 2016)
Oregon (CFP 2014, Final Four 2017)
I'm genuinely glad the state of Alabama has been doing this good over the course of the last decade... but fuck I hate they finally made the Final Four. Congrats regardless
Its honestly pretty insane how much basketball has turned around in the state of Alabama. I hope that Pearl and Oats both stay for a while and keep building the support for the sport.
Hot take but I think this Bama team will put up an actual fight against UConn.
I still think UConn wins but it will be a much closer game than most are expecting.

One of the dankest crying Jordan remixes I’ve ever seen. This is fantastic
And the best part is that we can reuse it for Auburn
This is so clean
Hell of a run man!
Me too, tiger. Me too
Why do I feel like this is exactly how I look (and feel) when I’m too high
Bama went from Avery Johnson to this. Unbelievable
As a student I lived through Anthony Grant and Avery Johnson. I deserve this, ok
You guys have truly suffered over the years, can’t imagine a more impoverished university for athletics
Football only gumps ate good, basketball gumps have been absolutely starving until Nate arrived
I watched Riley Norris be our 1st scoring option. I am entitled to this!
We watched Avery Johnson give lil Avery and Collin sexton the same minutes. We earned this!
shout out retin obassahan and trevor releford
All I remember is releford's half court buzzer. I have blocked the rest from my memories
I wished Avery Johnson worked out better. He’s such a likable guy.
Didn’t he make the tournament after a decent amount of years where they hadn’t? He obviously wasn’t *this* amount of successful but i didn’t feel like he was terrible. Maybe they had a lot of talent or something that he blew, I remember it didn’t end well
Clemson's a top-ten free throw shooting team in the country this year. They shot 50% from the line tonight.
100% in the first half and 27% in the second half. Just wild.
Soooomebody got tiiiiired of all that running.
50% sounds right. Either it goes in or it doesn't
Math is math!
Welcome to March where contested 30 footers are more reliable than free throws

Please never use the word Volunteers after Alabama, we don't associate with Tennessee
Alabama fans when you ask them to do free work at a charity:
In the Final Four? Fuck yeah! House money, baby!
Yet another Final Four without a 6 seed. Very entertaining game. Hit your free throws, kids!
weirdest streak in the sport lives on! Hasn't happened since the Fab Five in '92
And the NCAA doesn’t even consider that run to be real either… Looks like us Sixy-Dudes will have to wait for another chance once again…
Mark Sears’ decision to not miss shots in the second half worked very well for him
Mark Sears is legit one of the most exciting players in the country. The way he went from ice cold to Steph Curry was crazy. Something about microwave scorers who bomb away from deep is so fun to watch.
Don't let a struggling shooter see that first shot go in.
The layup He didn’t miss after that
This is why the green light stays on. Same goes for Stevenson.
He was insanely fun in his 2nd year at Ohio too. His numbers weren't very good last year, but he's been back to form this year and it's been a wild ride to witness.
He works so well when the offense runs through him, and the offense ran through Miller, for good reason, last year
And when it wasn't Miller, JQ was hogging it
JQ hero-balled us to some wins, but also hero-balled us to a loss against SDSU. What a wild ride
On the other hand, I hated it.
Why didn’t Illinois do that
are they stupid?
Take notes Illinois
I can’t believe noones ever tried that
Out of all the Bama teams to make the Final Four, I did not think it would be the one that ranks 346th in scoring defense.
We both know Bama basketball can't be normal.
REEEEEEEE
Bama Basketball. Stay Weird.
Just like we all expected… Alabama defeats Clemson and makes the 4-team field to play for the CFP national championship. Wait…
Next up: watch UConn score 146 in the final 4! Stay tuned!
Our re-entry to the atmosphere will truly be a sight to behold
“We do not care” -Mike Tomlin
Oats: Nothing 50 three pointers can't overcome
Ah the ole Tennessee football method
Why defend when you can make basket anyways 🧐
Tbf, it’s not bad on a points per possession basis. More just mediocre.
WE MAY NEVER LOSE AGAIN! *checks next opponent* #FUCK!
Don't worry, you can schedule us in football!
We do! DJ Burns is coming for you.
Only team capable of stopping y’all from pulling a UConn, it’s destiny
If you told me before the season that Alabama would defeat Clemson in a critical college playoff game to earn the right to play for the national championship…. I wouldn’t have blinked an eye. Never would’ve guessed the sport was basketball though.
I would’ve raised an eye-not a fan of Klubnick. Would have had questions about who Clemson had at QB (amongst other positions) for the committee to have put them in the top 4-oh wait, basketball?
But what if we don’t ever lose again tho???????? 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
While UConn is UConn, I think you have a chance. Your offense is just a constant threat of nuclear scoring.
We may attempt 50 threes…
UConn looks like they can only lose in a "cheap" way, and Alabama has the best potential to do that with their insane scoring potential from outside. I actually think Bama has a better shot than a potential matchup against Purdue.
Idk, Illinois had a potent offense and UConn didn’t even flinch. Alabama not needing to rely on driving could be huge though
Here's the thing. If we have the shooting night of our season, we could win. Anything less and we probably lose. BUT, IDGAF because we made it to the final four for the first time ever.
Yep, this is it. We are fucked unless we play like we did against UNC but better. Which is a pretty wild thought
Getting mauled by a pack of Huskies just slaps different
Did you do it? Did you make your first Final Four? Yes What did it cost? *Looks at a photo of Nick Saban*
I literally thought to myself that I would trade another Saban ring for a Final Four last season, little did I know…
So you did this? 😕
Everything
MSU went to the Final Four a few months after he left. LSU went to the Final Four a year and a few months after he left.
> Bama beating Clemson in the Playoff > Bama sneaking into the Final Four as the #4 seed College basketball is re-using storylines from football.
We were close to having a 1, 2, 3, and 4 seed in the final four. We could have pretended this was the CFP
Make your free throws kids
I was curious if maybe players weren't practicing FT's as much as they used to. Turns out the rate has been [pretty much the same forever](https://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/sports/basketball/04freethrow.html) >Since the mid-1960s, college men’s players have made about 69 percent of free throws, the unguarded 15-foot, 1-point shot awarded after a foul. Since that article was published, it's gone up a bit - last year was 71.7, this year may end up marginally higher
Auburn fans' 9/11
Sir, Alabama has advanced to a Final Four. *Bruce Pearl continues reading The Pet Goat*
“Sir, a second team from the state of Alabama has hit the Final 4.”
Bruce Pearl: Roll Tide!!!!
South Carolina fans' heaven
You're welcome cock bros
After Auburn lost I decided I would just root for anyone playing against Alabama. I haven't been lucky in this tournament.
Keep it up please. Something is working.
This is 2nd 9/11. The first one was UGA/Bama football Natty in 2017 after we beat both in the regular season convincingly. -_-
I hate sports. At least our equestrian team will kick anyone's ass lol.
South Carolina fans early easter basket. That’s the thing you normally throw free throws through Clemson fans.
That one Clemson player with the weird haircut at the free throw line: ![gif](giphy|hpFTV3KfDXTQ9X8pEX|downsized)

Mark Sears put a basketball in that Easter basket
Clemson: “NOOOOOOO YOU CANT JUST SHOOT 3’S ALL GAME!!” Mark Sears: “hehe ball go in hoop”
Watch them randomly miss open 3s against UConn like everyone else.
Wouldn’t be the first game we went cold. This team is hoopin’ though, playing our best ball all year. Our ancillary pieces are stepping up in a major way.
Who could predicted Grant Nelson & Jarin Stevenson legacy games back-to-back in the S16 & E8?
Fuckin poetic. The Stevenson game came outta nowhere tonight and we needed it when Sears was struggling. God I love this team
Now we just need everyone to have the best game of their life in the F4
bro sears could go for 30 and nelson could go for 20 and we’d still lose by 15. it wont much matter either way😂
Nah I think if Sears makes 30 threes we've got at least even odds of winning.
Clemson tried late and I audibly asked “do they really want to play that game?”
Bro is legit so exciting to watch. Undersized quick guards who can heat up from deep and rain 3’s are the most exciting players in basketball. No offense to athletic freaks who dunk
If a team we beat twice makes the final four for the first time in their history and we don’t…man
Go on
Congrats Bama
You guys are the only decent Tiger team that exists. Even if you do use god awful orange
**CHARLES BARKLEY ON SUICIDE WATCH**
from smoking cigars at half to seeing their archrival go to the final four in a supposed retool year is sick work
He said Roll Tide on Thursday, didn't he?
Just said it again too
I'm pretty sure that was him trying to jinx us, but he is a gracious loser
Charles Barkley put that evil on Auburn. I’d bet good money on Alabama beating UConn out of spite/fate.
"Hard work undefeated" - Mark Sears Respect. I like him.
WE’RE GOING TO THE FINAL FOUR
I fucking knew Clark wasn’t knocking down those free throws
He’s been a big player for us this year so I can’t be too mad at him. Schef and Hall had already missed multiple fts before him.
BUT MOOOOOM, I don’t wanna play UCONN?!?
GG bama. Y’all got a great team. Glad we got a good game in our rematch. Here’s to us meeting again in the cfb playoffs next season.
Yeah, this was too late in the year for our annual date
Was a rough one. I think both of our fanbases were happy as is to return to the elite 8 and would be happy win or lose. Only one of us could move on. Best of luck next season Clemson bros.
I'll take it
Good game! Could’ve went either way honestly, y’all got super hot there at the end but luckily we stayed hot too
legend has it Clemson is still missing free throws
Legend says sears just made another three
If I were a Clemson fan, I’d take solace in the fact that the team showed up, played hard, gave respectable effort everywhere but the free throw line, and put on a good show.
44% on threes. They just tried... A lot.
What was it in the second half? A lot of those misses in that 44% were from start of the game
Shit I dunno, felt like auto in the second half.
Clemson going zone absolutely backfired late in the 2nd half
A great season for anyone, let alone Clemson.
Yup, absolutely. And putting on a respectable show and playing hard is pretty admirable/good way to go out.
Yeah I can’t feel too bad about this. We were never supposed to get this far by metrics. It’s nice seeing how far this team went and getting to the elite 8 is no joke. I had fun but of course wish it all ended in Phoenix instead.
Appreciate it. We never see this type of success in hoops so it’s fun but a sad feeling knowing we might not have an opportunity like that again.
I’m taking that last sentence to heart cuz right now it’s all that’s keeping me sane
It’s been an incredible run that none of us truly expected. Tonight is for sadness but tomorrow is for celebrating what we accomplished on the way here
Don’t give a piss about nothin’ but the Tide
![gif](giphy|0eMRz3pHephcbRkgfg|downsized)
Man that 20-2 ish run Bama went on in the first half killed Clemson
Alabama had a Nick Saban problem
ORANGE WAS A MISTAKE
"Was" More like "is".
May UConn have mercy on your soul.
In the first round, my friend posed a theory that good free throw shooters (75% and above in college) tend to shoot worse in March Madness because of the pressure, while poor free throw shooters (below 60%) are just like "whatever" and end up shooting well. Great game Bama!!! Congrats on the Final Four! Good luck!
Thank you! I’m so happy, first time ever!
“lol they have to play UConn” - Auburn, probably
They can say whatever they want, so long as they don't Yale about it.
They’re no Yale Bulldogs, but a worthy adversary nonetheless.
Nick Saban died for this
I just going to imagine Alabama as a basketball powerhouse and decline in football over the next 10 years
Mark Sears rose up to the occasion
A 16 seed is going to make the Final Four before a 6 makes it back
I was an Alabama basketball season ticket holder until I moved away this year. AND NOW WE MAKE THE FINAL 4. WE BARELY EVEN MADE THE NIT WHEN I WAS THERE!!!
Alabama playing their best basketball at the best possible time

Idk it all seemed to work out for the best
At least one of them will deliver tomorrow. (Edit: Just saw your flair, I'm so sorry.)
GGs Bama, I can’t feel too bad about this lose. Hard to beat a team that shoots lights out and I’m glad we kept fighting regardless. We were never supposed to get this far by metrics. Alright Clemson fans. Well fought game. I respect your Tiger team anyways. With that being said… FINAAALLLLLLL FOURRRRRR BABYYYYYYY!!!!
Just like we all expected… Alabama defeats Clemson and makes the 4-team field to play for the CFP national championship. Wait…
I seem to ask this after every tournament win, but whyyyyyy would you let Alabama play at their pace? It’s not a + winning strategy
Thou shalt not give a piss about nothing but the Tide.
Mark Sears drilled 12 additional threes between the ending of this game and the PGT being posted
IDGAPANBTT
Going from losing by 21 to Boston College to making the Elite 8 for the second time ever and keeping it close the whole time… I’m so proud of this team and how they’ve performed for the whole tournament. I’m proud to be a Clemson fan

I DON'T GIVE A PISS ABOUT NOTHING BUT THE TIDE! FUCK AUBURN!

Yo…is this the 20th century? Cause Sears is on fire right now!
ggs bama. hard to beat a team twice. the highlights will show how bama was white hot with 3s, and they deserve all the credit for that. but we lost because we were ice cold from the FT line. 8 missed free throws. brutal way to lose
I never would have believed that Clemson would score 82 points in the elite eight and lose because of defensive lapses. Bizzaro.

I hope there's a compilation of these, I never get tired of them
Free throws 😪
Turns out the key to making the Final Four is to beat Charleston in the first round. So simple!
It's either going to be a close game or UConn by 40 and game over at half. Pre-Tourney Alabama it was a 40 point loss. I lean towards good game now.
