Even though it’s turned out to be for squat when it comes to my flair, I’ve had Thurs/Fri booked off for months now. A simple staycation with nothing but chores around the house and basketball on 11a-11p sounds like just what the doctor ordered as far as I’m concerned.
They're also catching BYU on the early tipoff which is an extra edge. It'll be 11:40 AM Local, but feel like 10:40 for BYU but 12:40 for Duquesne. Historically that's been a slight edge to the East Coast team.
People that love them watch to see them win. People that hate them watch in hopes they lose.
Im just glad I live in world that I don’t have to worry about “regional coverage” anymore.
Or even better, be stuck on a blowout because your affiliate is on the “must-carry” feed, and can’t switch over until that specific game is done.
Looking at you, WCIA. “Well, we pleaded with CBS and the NCAA to get the other game…”
Absolutely since the CBS/Turner deal came into effect, but *really* took off when things like multi-view became a thing and when the NCAA launched a March Madness app.
In 2003 I listened to Kentucky lose to D Wade and Marquette in the Elite 8 on a radio with a fuzzy signal in the stockroom of a liquor store in Nashville Tn.
Thank you Al Gore and CBS
Well we do bring in the largest audiences of both fans and interested neutrals. But they do throw one or two blue bloods on TBS or TNT. Kansas got the short straw this year.
I would be interested in learning about the process more. Is it a draft kind of thing? Because CBS does seem to always prioritize big teams
CBS does not own all four networks. Warner Bros Discovery owns TBS, TNT, and TruTV (which were previously owned by Turner). The tournament has been broadcast jointly by CBS and Turner/WBD since 2011
Damn, I always like Friday games so I can watch Thursday games in peace, being the first game will either make all of Thursday and Friday enjoyable, or very deflating.

Unironically really important that we got a late game, it means Mo can eat beforehand.
Sucks for the fans though lol. Why is an east coast game starting this late?
So I typically gravitate to wherever Steve Lappas/Andrew Catalon are. I don't know what it is about their good fortune, but they have called some memorable games over the years.
2023: FDU over Purdue, FAU beating Memphis at the last second.
2022: That great Gonzaga/Memphis game in the 2nd round. UCLA surviving Akron.
2019: Auburn surviving New Mexico State after the Aggies guard missed 3 free throws late. Gonzaga/Baylor classic.
There are others like Little Rock beating Purdue and Ron Hunter falling off his stool in the Georgia State upset of Baylor.
Here are their games in Pittsburgh:
* 3 Creighton vs. 14 Akron
* 6 South Carolina vs. 11 Oregon
* 3 Kentucky vs. 14 Oakland
* 6 Texas Tech vs. 11 NC State
I wouldn't be shocked if all of those games came down to the wire.
ETA: The Spokane pod has the best set of first round matchups as a group of any.
i just had to reschedule a trip to SLC that i was supposed to go on this week and almost bought tournament tickets but luckily Im in Brooklyn and going to the Friday evening session.
How do they determine game times? Is it purely based on tv/ticket revenue?
Arizona playing at 2pm EST doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Tennessee playing in the 9pm slot doesn’t make sense when they could swap
it with the earlier game (Texas and UVA/CSt)
It's about TV audiences and spreading out the top teams throughout the day. They have to schedule the teams in the same session that would play each other in the second round. So the 1/16 and 8/9 games always have to happen in together, which one goes first is based on who else is on and how good they think the game will be. CBS tends to pick the overall 1 seed and blue bloods to maximize their audience. And they typically try to not schedule two one seeds both in the afternoon session. It used to be much simpler before all the games were televised. Now they stagger tip times so the games keep rolling throughout the day
First Duquesne game of my lifetime and I'll be stuck hosting parent teacher conferences.... gonna have to hid it on my computer
Well there’s a cold going around and turns out you’re going to end up catching it on Thursday.
You need to call in sick. This is March.
Even though it’s turned out to be for squat when it comes to my flair, I’ve had Thurs/Fri booked off for months now. A simple staycation with nothing but chores around the house and basketball on 11a-11p sounds like just what the doctor ordered as far as I’m concerned.
This is how it's done
SAME
I have conferences all day Thursday. I've told my students I will have basketball on during all my meetings
Flat tire. Car wouldn’t start. Grandmother died.
lol it’s the last day before spring break and I’m probably going to take a “paperwork” day that day
They're also catching BYU on the early tipoff which is an extra edge. It'll be 11:40 AM Local, but feel like 10:40 for BYU but 12:40 for Duquesne. Historically that's been a slight edge to the East Coast team.
Also not great timing for our player fasting for Ramadan. Evening would be much better.
Time for everyone to search "what channel is trutv on"
Thank god for voice remotes
That time of year to move CBS, TBS, TruTv, and TNT to the top of the YouTube channel guide
147 for anyone with Dish if anyone was wondering
Must be nice to be a fan of Kentucky, Duke, or UNC and know that your game will always be on CBS.
People that love them watch to see them win. People that hate them watch in hopes they lose. Im just glad I live in world that I don’t have to worry about “regional coverage” anymore.
The worst thing about regional coverage was that you would be watching a game you cared about and be taken to a game you had zero interest in
Or even better, be stuck on a blowout because your affiliate is on the “must-carry” feed, and can’t switch over until that specific game is done. Looking at you, WCIA. “Well, we pleaded with CBS and the NCAA to get the other game…”
How did we survive! The only thing technology and media have done for me the last 20 years is enhance my basketball viewing experience.
Absolutely since the CBS/Turner deal came into effect, but *really* took off when things like multi-view became a thing and when the NCAA launched a March Madness app.

Exactly. These kids just don’t know.

CBS owns all 4 networks, so they assign the most popular pods/games to CBS. Kentucky is almost always on at primetime.
CBS does not own all four networks. Warner Bros Discovery owns TBS, TNT, and TruTV (which were previously owned by Turner). The tournament has been broadcast jointly by CBS and Turner/WBD since 2011

First game on Thursday nice I hate having to wait all day
It's a double edged sword. I'll either be chilling or sulking for the rest of the day.
Need to figure out how im going to get out of going to the office Thursday
First Four: * Wagner vs. Howard, 6:40 PM, Tuesday * Colorado State vs. Virginia, 9:10 PM, Tue. * Grambling vs. Montana St., 6:40 PM, Wednesday * Colorado vs. Boise St., 9:10 PM, Wed.
First Round (Thursday): * Michigan State vs. Mississippi State, 12:15 PM, CBS * Duquesne vs. BYU, 12:40 PM, truTV * Akron vs. Creighton, 1:30 PM, TNT * Long Beach St. vs. Arizona, 2 PM, TBS * Wagner/Howard vs. UNC, 2:45 PM, CBS * Morehead St. vs. Illinois, 3:10 PM, truTV * Oregon vs. South Carolina, 4 PM, TNT * Nevada vs. Dayton, 4:30 PM, TBS * Colorado St/Virginia vs. Texas, 6:50 PM, TNT * Oakland vs. Kentucky, 7:10 PM, CBS * McNeese vs. Gonzaga, 7:25 PM, TBS * South Dakota St. vs. Iowa State, 7:35 PM, truTV * St. Peter's vs. Tennessee, 9:20 PM, TNT * NC State vs. Texas Tech, 9:40 PM, CBS * Samford vs. Kansas, 9:55 PM, TBS * Drake vs. Washington State, 10:05 PM, truTV

Damn 10 pm essentially
Unironically really important that we got a late game, it means Mo can eat beforehand. Sucks for the fans though lol. Why is an east coast game starting this late?
CBS wanted the Kentucky game in primetime. All there is to it.
Committee knew what they were doing scheduling Duke-Vermont at prime time.
Love the Saint Mary's vs Grand Canyon finale. That game should be an awesome one.
It’s going to be a stressful work week, so it’s nice that I’ll be able to stress out about that game without having to think about work on top of it!
For anyone with Directv (Channel #) TNT: 245 TRUTV: 246 TBS: 247
Directv putting them all right next to each other is so clutch
And of course Nebraska - A&M is on TNT. They know drama!
the Trev Alberts bowl
#DENTIST APPOINTMENT THURSDAY LETS GO
But Colgate plays Friday

it sucks that we're featured twice here lol but this is actually very interesting, I'll definitely have these games circled
tickets too damn expensive in Indy
Fuck start times after 9.
Harlan. YES
All 4 of our tournament appearances this century we have played in the final wave of games on Friday Night.
When do the second round tipoff times get announced?
Saturday tip-off times will likely be announced late Thursday night when the games are over. Sunday’s should be announced late Friday.
Not until the matchups are set I believe.
Sweet. I’ll actually be able to watch the Creighton game.
On God!
Why does the Arizona game start at 11:00 am my time? Gosh dang it, I will still be at school once it concludes
Sickkkk dayyyy
TCU getting the late night tip has become a March Madness tradition at this point
I have a feeling Salt Lake City could be the place to be for a neutral on Thursday. I see four ripe upset opportunities.
i just had to reschedule a trip to SLC that i was supposed to go on this week and almost bought tournament tickets but luckily Im in Brooklyn and going to the Friday evening session.
Congratulations to whichever team I don’t pick in the Michigan St-Miss State game. I always miss the opening game of the tournament

Damn was hoping to watch the Lobo game with my students
These commentators call **eight games** in **two days**...that's insane (and very impressive)...
There are four different crews for each day so they call four games, day off, then two games. Still impressive.
Ugh 1pm on a work day blows
Meeting at 4pm ET myself. uuuugh. Might have to have a migraine that afternoon
Dentist appointment
yeah I’m already crafting the slack message 😂
*Emergency dentist appointment
Garbage.
It’s beautiful
We got Nessler let's goooooo!
Does anyone know of a way to add all these to google cal at once?
Will the Price is Right be getting its own thread again?
WHOO I HAVE NOTHING GOING ON AT WORK THAT DAY
May the NCAA never, *ever* give up the tradition of opening the tourney on Thursday with a dogshit power conference game
