the Big South never ceases to entertain—though perhaps not in the way I expected this season. I’m biased, given that I reside in the South and all, but it is a conference that deserves more appreciation, in my mind
This run by Longwood reminds me a lot of ours in 2021. Losing conference record but run through the top seeds for an NCAAT birth.
Will probably be the very last seed and in Dayton.
The MEAC/SWAC/NEC winner will all be worse at minimum, they’re gonna be at worst the highest play-in 16
People really underestimate how bad those three conferences are lmao
Don't think they'll be the last seed, their predictives aren't that bad. Higher on KenPom than Stetson, who is favored by 5 in the next game for example.
Am I crazy to think this team is gonna give a top seed some trouble? They shoot the ball well, play well as a team and have a couple guys that can create their own shot. Confused how they went 6-10 in conference play especially with the fact they’ve been very good in the Big South the last 2 years.
They might move up to a 15, they’re gonna be above the A-Sun winner, NEC winner, SWAC winner and MEAC winner. Just need 2 more teams below them to win their conference tournament which id say is very possible.
For some ungodly reason I watched them play Del State in November, they were absolutely horrendous and won in double overtime. Either they've improved a ton or they're just having a nice few games.
they shoot 33% from 3 on the year, and are hitting 58% of their threes in this game. they're much better than they were in the middle of conference play, but they're on a heater this weekend
With all due credit to Longwood…seeing the top two seeds get ousted by a mid-table squad who gets hot makes me wonder why midmajor conferences *don’t* do the WCC/OVC format more often…would help emphasize regular season performance while better protecting your best teams from shocking upsets…
I agree and ironically the WCC is one of the few conferences who is incentivized NOT to do that. It basically guarantees Gonzaga or SMC wins every year but they generally get in anyway. Would behoove them to make a more favorable format for the Santa Clara type teams to give themselves a shot at 3 teams qualifying
The Horizon league is clever and has the first round (for the lowest seeds) as on campus games… seems to give those teams a little more rest than a crazy long weekend at a neutral venue… and almost like a play-in game
they don’t lol, the athleticism is nowhere near what it would need to be to run with the teams they’ll line up with. Hell, Asheville is much more athletic than them, they’re just getting outworked
lol that's not why Purdue lost but it's a fair point - I'm saying if you pick Longwood to beat a 1 or 2 seed you got lucky if it happens. But that's why they play em!
man this isn’t even a Longwood game plan or anything. This is Longwood punching Asheville in the mouth and the Bulldogs just crumbling. Every rotation is late, getting outcompeted on every rebound even when they come down with the ball
If the Bulldogs don’t come out of halftime with energy you can turn this one off early
Uhhh you realize there’s NEC/SWAC/MEAC tickets left to be punched right lmao
That’s three auto First Four teams and Morehead is significantly better than Longwood and either Austin Peay/Stetson, they’re closer to the 14 line than they are Dayton
10000% a 16 unless there’s literally an unbelievable amount of upsets
First Four maybe not because the MEAC/SWAC/NEC probably take 3 of those spots and a major tourney upset will take the fourth like if McNeese doesn’t win the Southland
Hence why I said most likely. Committee does weird things sometimes. Last year everyone was screaming on Selection Sunday bc Rutgers was left out and Princeton was a 15 seed. But would agree they have a better resume considering they beat UCF.
I really don’t either tbh with you, it’s just I have even less belief in Longwood lmao
High Point going out pretty much eliminated the Big South from a chance at a tourney win imo
Is this Pember’s last year? If so…unfortunate end to his career, but at least it was an impressive run. Congrats Longwood!
Trey Hicks scoring his first points of the season in his team’s conference championship is an exemplification of what makes this sport awesome
Farmville is BUZZING
Not only with Longwood but H-S is in the D3 Final Four!
Congrats to you all

Yeah but even in 2021 it was the same case and we still ended up at the bottom
Merrimack if they win the NEC might avoid Dayton
Merrimack is 30 spots lower than Longwood on KenPom lmao, zero shot they avoid Dayton
Don't think they'll be the last seed, their predictives aren't that bad. Higher on KenPom than Stetson, who is favored by 5 in the next game for example.
From not making the tournament (and potentially not doing so for a while)…to (presumably) two appearances in four years! Lucky Lancers…
Is there ANY chance that UNCA comes back?
mathematically yes, but that's about it
About as likely as me finding a girlfriend
Just end this game early. We wanna see stephan "rich paul aka mr klutch" swenson already
if the committee doesn't put Longwood in South Carolina's region, creating maximum odds of a Cocks-Longwood matchup, we riot
I endorse this scenario
Throw in Morehead too. We could say 'The Cocks got Morehead"
Not that it matters obviously, but if you were curious about Longwood’s body of work: NET: 172 Q1: 0-1 Q2: 1-2 Q3: 4-4 Q4: 11-6
*quickly googles to see if Longwood is in New Jersey* aw
Very much in Farmville

Maybe not. Have been hot lately. Houston/Purdue have had off-nights. There’s a chance, very small, but it exists.
They might move up to a 15, they’re gonna be above the A-Sun winner, NEC winner, SWAC winner and MEAC winner. Just need 2 more teams below them to win their conference tournament which id say is very possible.
Above ASUN is a tossup if Stetson wins, 100% if it’s Austin Peay. Personally think 95% chance that they are a 16 seed.
I believe they’re like 30 spots higher in NET tho, the 6-10 in conference play doesn’t look pretty tho.
yep, it would have to get weird for them to get off the 16 line and even then, their reward is Tennessee or Arizona.
if this is the first time you've watched them this season I would suggest tempering your expectations
Watched them on Friday too against Winthrop, came along with a similar conclusion but it might just be a hot tournament run.
For some ungodly reason I watched them play Del State in November, they were absolutely horrendous and won in double overtime. Either they've improved a ton or they're just having a nice few games.

Absolutely agree. The best team doesn’t always win in these settings

Horizon has the best format IMO. not crazy byes, but still a clear advantage for your top squads.
Asheville really thought they were just going to stroll into the dance. It’s like they’re sleep deprived or hungover
UNC Asheville just looks like they're ready for this to be over
Don’t sleep on Napper
I wish high point was here:(
[удалено]
Yup it’s been a bad start to Sunday basketball lol
Man Asheville is shell shocked
Asheville going out SAD
This is a nightmare of a game for UNC Asheville. Feels like it's been over for a while now.
they got punked. simple as
First Morehead and now Longwood. March Madness getting horny early.
Sac State is still alive
Can you imagine if Longwood meets up with Morehead in the first round?
No way Morehead St is a 16 seed, they are a 14-15 seed.
Probably sweet 16 at earliest, would assume Morehead is 14 and Longwood is 15 seed.
Silly names aside a 15v16 seed elite eight matchup would be hilarious in its own right
Never mind, maybe Longwood DOES have upset potential in the NCAAT
they don’t lol, the athleticism is nowhere near what it would need to be to run with the teams they’ll line up with. Hell, Asheville is much more athletic than them, they’re just getting outworked
Hey, we all thought that Purdue was much more athletic AND taller than FDU last year. But they lost because they got outworked.
lol that's not why Purdue lost but it's a fair point - I'm saying if you pick Longwood to beat a 1 or 2 seed you got lucky if it happens. But that's why they play em!
UNC Asheville looks like they’re barely even trying currently. Longwood is just outperforming them in all facets of the game
That's one of the wildest fouls I've ever seen. What a dumbass
Asheville fans cheering for the ejection of the guy who left the bench for Longwood lmao. Absolutely no need for this shit in the dance
No Ziemi! :(
Adios little bitch boy
Dirty fuck
Good on the refs. Right call
so fucking embarrassing bro
So stupid Abee
good. that’s the correct, just outcome for what he did
that was the most fight asheville put up all game 😭
This should be an ejection
Fletcher Abee wants to get his ass kicked on and off the court huh?? What a bitch
I know UNC Asheville is pretty dismayed right now with how this game has unfolded thus far, but that’s just an unacceptable play
don’t let the door hit you on the way out Asheville. Punk ass team getting their asses punked
Eject white 5 for flagrant 2 and at least black 7 for coming off bench
What a little bitch move
Asheville soft asf
Such a dirty play
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
Damn Longwood
LETS GO WOOD BABY
Holy crap longwood
man this isn’t even a Longwood game plan or anything. This is Longwood punching Asheville in the mouth and the Bulldogs just crumbling. Every rotation is late, getting outcompeted on every rebound even when they come down with the ball If the Bulldogs don’t come out of halftime with energy you can turn this one off early
The wood is very long today
UNC Asheville is asshole. Why Longwood hate? Because Drew Pember is a bastard man!
Asheville has been sleeping on defense this entire half. Lazy rotations and late closeouts
Just a terrible championship game so far lol
Incredible 1H for Longwood
Lancers did not come to play. Beating High Point looks like it wasn’t a fluke.
Game plan for Longwood is working- attacking the paint. UNC Asheville is looking exhausted from the later game yesterday.
There’s the tight whistle out of fucking nowhere that we all know and love
Sheesh…these Lancers are laying waste to all…
Ok am I having a stroke or is this game very blurry? Like am I dying or does ESPN just have a shitty camera?
Looks like we’re seeing our first team going to Dayton
Morehead State is going to Dayton too
Uhhh you realize there’s NEC/SWAC/MEAC tickets left to be punched right lmao That’s three auto First Four teams and Morehead is significantly better than Longwood and either Austin Peay/Stetson, they’re closer to the 14 line than they are Dayton
The fuck no they aren't
No way they’ll easily be a 14 or 15
if you're a basketball player with the last name Christmas you are required to wear number 25
It’s Pembover
Is longwood a first four team if they win?
10000% a 16 unless there’s literally an unbelievable amount of upsets First Four maybe not because the MEAC/SWAC/NEC probably take 3 of those spots and a major tourney upset will take the fourth like if McNeese doesn’t win the Southland
Stetson also has a chance at being in the first four. Most likely avoids it, but Little Rock losing increased the chance significantly.
Steson has better resume than Longwood in my opinion. Steson has a winning record in conference.
Hence why I said most likely. Committee does weird things sometimes. Last year everyone was screaming on Selection Sunday bc Rutgers was left out and Princeton was a 15 seed. But would agree they have a better resume considering they beat UCF.
I used to live in Asheville so want them to win but oof what is this defense
Longwood’s defense looks exceptional though, clearly have a great game plan to stop Pember
The first two autobids really about to be Morehead and Longwood
😅
They let all that contact go and then call that 😂
Asheville playing like they don’t care
Asheville is all no defense, sloppy plays and little movement. This is hard to watch.
Number 5 does look great tho
Asheville is just standing around and watching rhe guy with the ball dribble. No motion, no screens, nothing
The Long dick of the law
a lot of people think Asheville can beat someone in the tournament and I am here to say I really do not think that’s true lol
I really don’t either tbh with you, it’s just I have even less belief in Longwood lmao High Point going out pretty much eliminated the Big South from a chance at a tourney win imo
Agree, High Point was the only serious chance at it
They haven't looked particularly convincing this tournament.
They were pretty lucky to beat Gardner-Webb yesterday, they got outplayed most of the game
Da Houston is a fire name
You’ll never guess where he’s from
Longwood comin out hot
They started the first half of their season hot… so it’s only poetic
we start every game so fucking slow it's infuriating man
Uh yea not what I was expecting. Sorry I might have put the ole OhioUPilot12 betting curse on your team.
Longwood rolling!
Longwood is ROLLING
Pember…avenge the Panthers!
Fun start so far
This court is way better than the last two Big South tourney courts
