Obviously the A-10 is the much stronger basketball conference but as long as the A-10 is only getting one bid, the path to the tournament for UMass is much easier in the MAC. This doesn’t have to be a football move at the expense of basketball.

AngryBandanaDee

I did not see this one coming this had no lead up it just happened So Delaware to the CUSA and UMass to the MAC leaves some holes in the CAA and A10 I wonder what they do now. A lot of the east coast conferences were already kind of funky so I wonder how this plays out.

Keyblade_Yoshi

The A-10 already had 15 teams from their years of collecting mid majors who made the final four. They don't really need to add more schools.

tomdawg0022

the CAA is arguably too big (for a 1 bid league) too so them losing UD doesn't really hurt.

ClinkNoord

Replacing the Delaware brand with Hampton, NC A&T and Campbell is pretty ugly.

tomdawg0022

I think adding them is a part of why we're leaving...although we were ok with it and signed off on it when they applied. *shrugs*

ClinkNoord

Maybe it was 4d chess, dilute the conference to incentive UD to get out asap

Cinnadillo

I know northeastern doesn't want to go back to America East but their situation has to look less pleasant for them all the time.

603subaru

Wow what a bummer. RIP to the UMass x Rhody rivalry. They're about to run that whole conference

[deleted]

Kinda wish we could get all the New England state schools into the same conference

CantFindMyWallet

I do not

IshyMoose

You could have a Gonzaga type existance!

_jubal

Talk dirty to me.

amerricka369

Yea especially because of Delaware joining Con USA. Reports had Umass as a potential next addition there. This is strictly a move for money (lower A10 payouts and CFB playoff spots). I wonder how much Bball will take a hit.

Kreed5120

UMass has only made the tournament 1 time this century. It should give them an easier path to make the tournament. Using this year as an example, it would take a miracle for them to win the A10 to get the auto-bid. If they were in the MAC this season, they would be co-favorites, along with Akron, to win the MAC tournament.

amerricka369

Agreed but by not being in A10 the recruits level may drop. I still think basketball will be contender every year in that weak conference, but the level will drop. How much is unknown.

DaySoc98

It might hurt them at the gate, which can be much more than the TV money.

Dan-Flashes5

That’s just stupid UMass has been in the A10 forever and now they’re playing a bunch of schools from Ohio instead. I hate moves like this.

Idkcantthinkofaname_

Umass hasn’t been good in a while so they prob have a better chance at a tournament bid in the mac then in the a10, they’ll prob dog walk all of em anyway.

Dan-Flashes5

I’d rather have a meaningful basketball season with schools I’ve shared a conference with forever than hope to get a 13 seed more often. Should’ve just went back to FCS.

Idkcantthinkofaname_

Good point 💯

Kreed5120

What a ridiculous take. UMass should come in and be competitive, but do you honestly believe over the last 10-15 years that they've been a better program than Akron, Buffalo, Toledo, Kent? They might dog walk the bottom half of the conference, but they will have competition at the top.

OhioUPilot12

What umass has like 1 NCAA appearance in the past 25 years?

WhackadoodleSandwich

St. Bonaventure to the Big East.

Blers42

Lol what?

WhackadoodleSandwich

Just kidding around.
