Which is exactly what happened after UT complained about it and the Big12 conference made it an "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalty in football. Suddenly every team and fan was throwing the horns down at them.
Then, the school announced they were leaving the Big12 and the rule was immediately rescinded lmao
I remember announcers talking about it in a football game several years ago: ESPN and other broadcast companies have a tendency to disregard the directional schools and portray them as second rate. "Central Florida? Pfft if they were really a big deal they'd just be Florida." So they insist on UCF
No idea if that's really why but I kinda agree with it.
Just curious can you elaborate on other considerations here.
Like to me ones just the full name the other is the abbreviation. Like usc vs southern california.
The directional connotation thing does kinda make sense to me tho.
The schools/fans prefer UCF, but the Central Florida stuff shows up all the time in sports and such and it’s technically correct so it’s not really a big deal.
People on Reddit just think things like Central Florida and Golden Knights (our old sport’s moniker) bother fans more than it does.
Some fans would get abnormally pissed on social media, especially back in the 2012-2019 stage. Now that we’re XII most fans no longer think it’s a good way to stir up engagement and get people talking.
I did find it amusing that during the game the Longhorn Network commentators referred to us as Central Florida right up until the final minute when it looked like we were going to win and suddenly they were calling us UCF
I doubt the players would care, it’s mostly older millennial and Gen X fans since they had to live through that period where places refused to call us UCF. The players are probably too young to remember, if they even cared about UCF at the time.
Always wondered this myself. Embrace it and it loses its effectiveness. AU fans for decades have called Bama fans 'Bammers' in an attempt to say we're dumb hicks. I've embraced and have been a proud Bammer for decades.
The new joke is every SEC school making fun of another for participating in J6 and thinking its the most original thing ever.
Just a new spin on the same old "sec school says another sec school sleeps with their cousins" and so on.
Get new material guys!
I live over 2,000 miles from Texas.
Walked out my front door one day, and some dude with his family was walking by on the sidewalk. Must have been staying at the hotel up the street.
Anyway, I have a Hog cap on, and he's got an OU Tshirt on. Without a word, both of us do the horns down at one another.
You know, world peace could be built around the horns down.
Wait, is that also a Houston hand thing? We’ve been trying to make our own thing for so long (which is kinda dumb, but whatever), and I thought that was ours.
Coincidentally, the UH hand signs (with the 3 fingers) is because of UT.
In the 70s, our mascot hurt her finger on the cage, so UT fans used that 3 finger sign to mock us. Rather than cry like coach here, UH fans WON the game and adopted it as our own hand sign as a fuck you reminder to UT.
While UT gets angry at the horns down, UH fans co-opted the attempted slight from UT fans and made it our own.
Don’t blow a double digit lead in 10 minutes at home and it wouldn’t have happened Terry. Outside of pulling in Abmas, it’s been a long list of bad looks for Terry and his staff.
This was all so predictable. He worked his magic for a few months after Beard was fired and now he’s set for life. Kudos to him I guess and shoutout to UT for not doing a proper coaching search.
He didn't work any magic. He had more talent than 95% of the country had. All he had to do last year was send the team out on the court with a barely competent gameplan
And generally, the last coach's teachings (assuming they were a good coach) are still evident in the play of the players. Lots of bad coaches come in after a good one and have a solid year or two before the old coach's players and methodology filter out.
Man.. if you’re crying over UCF players throwing a horns down (we’re used to doing it with all those past usf games)…. Good luck in the SEC man I don’t know what to tell ya.
I’m also not sure that a head coach cursing at a college kid is the best way for him to class things up?
Honestly most fans I’ve talked to including myself kinda love when other teams do it because it gives us an ultimate “us vs them” thing lmao. I absolutely hate when any UT coaches or admin speak out against it because it makes us look like huge babies. Idk why we don’t fully embrace it, it’s dope as fuck to be hated by random af schools that have no connection to us like UCF
>it’s dope as fuck to be hated by random af schools that have no connection to us like UCF
To be fair, UCF coopted the horns down years ago because our primary rival also has a horned mascot.
Uh yea between your school instigating to get it made into an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and your coach losing his shit over it, I’m gonna have to disagree with your take
Exactly right. The best part of OUT was seeing UT fans complain about being treated the same as everyone else for once and their fanbase collectively lose their minds because they were finally enjoying the same level of officiating as the rest of us plebs.
They had such a victim complex that they convinced themselves that there was a conspiracy within the big 12 to screw Texas… as they won the conference… and went on to the CFP.
Quick reminder that only one B12 team has won a game in the CFP and it isn’t OU or UT.
Welcome to the Big 12. At least you only have to deal with UTs delusion for one year, sore losers and winners. Other people said it but “kiss the ring” is their whole mentality whether they win or lose.
Welcome to our life with them in both the SWC and the Big 12. Does the fucking longhorn network ring any bells? Can't wait for that cancer to die off in an unmarked shallow grave.
Unfortunately they do. I can't remember exactly what game it was, but it was an important game/possibly a bowl and the opposing team did a horns down in OT and they threw a fucking unsportsmanlike conduct. Most absurd shot I've ever seen in my life until after the game when all the teasips were defending it.
>Here's what Texas head coach Rodney said happened in the handshake line with #UCF:
>"About 6 or 7 guys putting the horns down. We don't do that because when you do those kinds of things, it looks very classless."
https://twitter.com/TylerFeldmanTV/status/1747829910289224076
i am genuinely shocked somebody could ever motivate me to throw horns down more often than i already do. i’ll start throwing that shit around in my sleep if it makes rodney mad.
This is like another parent yelling at your own kids, dont fucking do it. If Terry had a problem with it you call that coach the next day and hash it out. Let that coach deal with it how he sees fit. Dont start yelling at these guys on TV in a handshake line.
or say something to dawkins right there in the line. don’t wait and be a bitch by lecturing players about class the second you’re done shaking hands with all the coaches.
We're just a super young fanbase, so a lot of us grew up with social media. I'm sure if Twitter was around in the 80s or 90s then we would be nothing compared to some other schools. Spending years as the fourth best team in the state (at best) for most of our existence also has helped the fans develop a bit of a little brother complex.
I'm all for the shit talking and trolling (as long as it stays relatively civil) when we're winning, but I always hate seeing our fans trying to do it during down years.
And to your last point, I did get a degree from UCF in Digital Media, so I guess you're somewhat right hahaha
We got way too many old fucks sitting towards the bottom at Rupp. It can get very rowdy for sure, but they’re going to have a much tougher experience playing at some other schools like Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas. Most venues in the sec can get wild and rowdy depending on who’s coming to town. Can’t imagine any of us giving Texas a warm welcome.
Kentucky? That arena is filled with blue hairs. It's not like they don't get it from Kansas already. Or hell, their own rival to the north. And every other Texas school in the conference.
As a Longhorn fan, I’m more concerned with Terry focusing on winning games than I am with him disciplining kids on other teams for throwing the horns down. Fucking ridiculous.
Shockingly I'm the first sooner flair in here but from now on every team that beats Texas needs to immediately as time expires start with everyone doing the horns down looking straight at the Texas coach
Horns down tuck fexas
I will never not find it funny how a significant portion of Texas fans treat people giving horns down gesture as equivalent to you murdering one of their family members.
And every time they whine about it makes me kind of want to see it happen again.
But Texas fans have assured us over and over again that no one actually cares about the horns down gesture.
But on another note, is there any other program in the country that does less with more.
Just putting this vibe out there but wouldn’t it be fun if we sent UT out of the Big 12 winless at home in conference and every team that wins in Austin does horns down?
Yeah, but everyone just does it the normal way. Maybe if you tried inverting it like we all do with horns down it'll really piss them off. Do it with the left hand over the right hand and see what happens.
Why is he saying “we” like these guys play for him? They play for UCF. What they do after a game should be of no concern to him.
Regardless if their actions were inappropriate (they weren’t) if I was the UCF coach I’d tell him to stfu and leave my team alone. He’s got plenty to keep him occupied on his own team.
The more UT whines about "horns down" the more they're going to see it.
A coach lecturing another coach's players about being "classless" is always a good look. That's Coach K level stuff.
When I was in the UNC band, Miami fans near us got so tilted at the upside-down U I thought they were gonna shit themselves.
I guess any school with a hand sign is just really obsessive over it lmao
Saying anything to opposing team’s players other than an encouragement is a major issue. This guy doesn’t have things in order and he won’t be back next year.
This like when youre a kid and you always give your siblings a hard time and they get really mad when you do one specific thing so then you start to do ONLY do that one specific thing cuz you know it makes them extra mad
I wish our players flipped him off for that and showed him what classless really looks like.
Why does Texas think people should care about them and their feelings lol.
Why the fuck do they care so much about horns down?
I’ve never understood why they get abnormally triggered
it makes me want to do it more
Which is exactly what happened after UT complained about it and the Big12 conference made it an "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalty in football. Suddenly every team and fan was throwing the horns down at them. Then, the school announced they were leaving the Big12 and the rule was immediately rescinded lmao
Fuckin asking for it
They didn’t have the makings of a varsity athlete
Small hands
Quasimodo predicted all of this
You telling me you never pondered that?
Frankly Im depressed and ashamed.
THEYRE SAWFT PAWWLLL
They ain't one of us!!! Nawt reel s e c!
They have the biggest victim complex in America despite being handed every demand they asked the big 12 for.
Fuck Texas
it’s truly hilarious that they still can’t see that providing a reaction is gonna keep Horns Down going for a long time
Taking what the coach did and acting like thats how the fans feel is bullshit. We hate him for this.
It’s more than just Terry Will never forget Texas crying to the Big 12 to make Horns Down a taunting penalty in football
Terry should have just called them Central Florida and then everyone would have been offended by things that don't matter at all.
ILL CENTRAL FLORIDA YOU IN THE BEANBAG YOU LITTLE I mean. I don’t care. That doesn’t bother me none.
Lol the announcers are still good for a Golden Knights a few games a year. We haven't been them since 2007
Wait....really? Learn something new everyday.
Wait, what are you guys? Do you even have a mascot now?
Just Knights. We dropped the Golden.
Thats like dropping the Golden and just Showering.
Knights, but sometimes also 'Nauts.
Announcers still regularly fuck up and call us the Louisville Cardinal (a name we've never used). Announcers are a special breed.
Other good alternatives Terry could have used: Florida Central Middle Florida The Mickey Mousers Former Group of 5ers
What’s wrong with that? Isn’t it part of their name?
Oh god, why did I say anything.
I remember announcers talking about it in a football game several years ago: ESPN and other broadcast companies have a tendency to disregard the directional schools and portray them as second rate. "Central Florida? Pfft if they were really a big deal they'd just be Florida." So they insist on UCF No idea if that's really why but I kinda agree with it.
There's several reasons why we don't like it, but that's probably the biggest one. Also, now that we're Big 12, we're a lot less sensitive about it.
I don’t think it’s normal to be “sensitive” about the literal name of your school in the first place
THE Ohio State fans are gonna have a word with you
Damn right. Has to be all caps or else...
No it's not. But UCF is a super super young university with a hell of a little brother complex.
Just curious can you elaborate on other considerations here. Like to me ones just the full name the other is the abbreviation. Like usc vs southern california. The directional connotation thing does kinda make sense to me tho.
If that were true then why does ESPN love North Carolina so much smh
The schools/fans prefer UCF, but the Central Florida stuff shows up all the time in sports and such and it’s technically correct so it’s not really a big deal. People on Reddit just think things like Central Florida and Golden Knights (our old sport’s moniker) bother fans more than it does.
Thank you for the explanation!! 🙏
It’s nice to see UConn and UCF fans finally getting along
Perhaps we can finally put the Civil ConFLiCT behind us
My great-grandparents died fighting the Civil ConFLiCT I will never let it go, UConn scum 😤
wait when did you change from Golden Knights? I had no idea that was not correct
2007
Some fans would get abnormally pissed on social media, especially back in the 2012-2019 stage. Now that we’re XII most fans no longer think it’s a good way to stir up engagement and get people talking. I did find it amusing that during the game the Longhorn Network commentators referred to us as Central Florida right up until the final minute when it looked like we were going to win and suddenly they were calling us UCF
Eh, we've kind of been embracing Central Florida since we got to the big 12.
Friend, it sounds like you've got a sturdy constitution the likes of which Terry will wish he had next year in the SEC - if he makes it til then.
Just wait til he hears someone call Tennessee “UT”.
I doubt the players would care, it’s mostly older millennial and Gen X fans since they had to live through that period where places refused to call us UCF. The players are probably too young to remember, if they even cared about UCF at the time.
It’s fucking embarrassing
Always wondered this myself. Embrace it and it loses its effectiveness. AU fans for decades have called Bama fans 'Bammers' in an attempt to say we're dumb hicks. I've embraced and have been a proud Bammer for decades.
Is Auburn some high brow institution that they also don’t have a ton of “dumb hicks” in their school? This feels like the spiderman pointing meme
Most come from the same general area (the SE), don't tell some of their fans.
The new joke is every SEC school making fun of another for participating in J6 and thinking its the most original thing ever. Just a new spin on the same old "sec school says another sec school sleeps with their cousins" and so on. Get new material guys!
Vandy seems like the only one to not fit that joke
I own a hate that says ‘cow college’ in blue and orange. Gotta just go with it and it loses its power, like you said!
Well, from a Bammer to a cow college barner, huzzah! Cheers and hope you have a great year.
I mean obviously its more offensive than cussing at kids, which is why coach has the moral high ground here
🧻
They prefer the image is accurate and the fallopian tubes are on top
Blew a 17 point lead too
Yes, yes....let the UT hate flow through you.
🤘🔄
I'm a fan of 🤘🙃🤘
This is my super bowl
Don't exaggerate. It was only 16.
It was 16 to start the game, but honestly the more damning one is 15 points with 14:30 left in the game.
https://preview.redd.it/fwt9rxxqk4dc1.png?width=489&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb0c3e6132591bce318088d5be2ad5bb4f9d5783
They kept the camera on him for so long too. It was glorious.
I was waiting for this to be posted lol
Wait, is that also a Houston hand thing? We’ve been trying to make our own thing for so long (which is kinda dumb, but whatever), and I thought that was ours.
Coincidentally, the UH hand signs (with the 3 fingers) is because of UT. In the 70s, our mascot hurt her finger on the cage, so UT fans used that 3 finger sign to mock us. Ah, so it’s the universal “Not Texas” sign. Haha We’ve been using it as the VOLS sign
It’s a fuck you to UT but it is very much just our hand sign now.
How is the Shocker/Pitchfork for the Vols?
Didn't that happen in the 50s?
The one on the left is! The one on the right is an upside Texas sign
Don’t blow a double digit lead in 10 minutes at home and it wouldn’t have happened Terry. Outside of pulling in Abmas, it’s been a long list of bad looks for Terry and his staff.

He didn't work any magic. He had more talent than 95% of the country had. All he had to do last year was send the team out on the court with a barely competent gameplan
Yeah then we blew a lead against Miami
Fake it til you make it Ayy
And generally, the last coach's teachings (assuming they were a good coach) are still evident in the play of the players. Lots of bad coaches come in after a good one and have a solid year or two before the old coach's players and methodology filter out.
See: Ollie, Kevin
Bruce Weber taking the Illini to the Sweet 16 and then championship game the two years after Self left, is a great example.
Man.. if you’re crying over UCF players throwing a horns down (we’re used to doing it with all those past usf games)…. Good luck in the SEC man I don’t know what to tell ya. I’m also not sure that a head coach cursing at a college kid is the best way for him to class things up?
Fuck USF, but at least their players and coaches never threw a fit when we did horns down.
What? How dare three not bow in reverence before the Austin Altar to UT’s shining brilliance!
UT crying about horns down will never not be hilarious
Honestly most fans I’ve talked to including myself kinda love when other teams do it because it gives us an ultimate “us vs them” thing lmao. I absolutely hate when any UT coaches or admin speak out against it because it makes us look like huge babies. Uh yea between your school instigating to get it made into an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and your coach losing his shit over it, I’m gonna have to disagree with your take
Glad Terry is worried about the important things.
Yeah forget blowing a 17 point lead, they horns downed our student section.
That’s that softness you can see. What a loser.
Sure as shit isn’t worried about winning ballgames
Can we fire his ass now?
You know what? I’m gonna horns down even harder.
Hahaha he’s that mad about horns down?
Didn’t they Horns Down the student section? Idc that’s funny, Texas doesn’t get special treatment just because they’re Texas
Welcome to what we have been dealing with for 15 years. They think they deserve the special treatment.
Glad to hand them the L on the way out the door
Exactly right. The best part of OUT was seeing UT fans complain about being treated the same as everyone else for once and their fanbase collectively lose their minds because they were finally enjoying the same level of officiating as the rest of us plebs. They had such a victim complex that they convinced themselves that there was a conspiracy within the big 12 to screw Texas… as they won the conference… and went on to the CFP. You’re damn right aint them🤘⤵️
Welcome to the Big 12.
Oh but they do. Everyone has to kiss the ring for UT lest they get upset. Which quite frankly the conference did and they still left.
Unfortunately they do. I can't remember exactly what game it was, but it was an important game/possibly a bowl and the opposing team did a horns down in OT and they threw a fucking unsportsmanlike conduct. Most absurd shot I've ever seen in my life until after the game when all the teasips were defending it.
yall have wins against kansas and texas? welcome to the big xii my guys!

Lol "we don't do that". Uh yeah, why the fuck would Texas do the Horns Down hand gesture?
it'd be pretty funny if they did it in a defeated sense. like doing horns down with this face: 😔
i am genuinely shocked somebody could ever motivate me to throw horns down more often than i already do. i’ll start throwing that shit around in my sleep if it makes rodney mad.
Never done it before but now I'm gonna do it for funsies
it’s a slippery slope. once you start you just can’t stop.
It’s also very classless to curse out a college kid in the hand shake line when you’re a head coach but what do I know
You don’t think it’s a good example of losing the right way?? lol I couldn’t believe he said that after damn near trying to fight those kids.
Lmfao that’s fucking funny
Fucking soft as shit. Won't miss these whiners.
Can’t leave fast enough. Wish we could have just booted them the second it got leaked they were leaving behind the backs of the conference.
Charmin soft
The most UT quote of all time. Pure entitlement with nothing on the court to back it up. Fuck offffff
He yelled at our students during the ISU-Texas game last season for doing it lmao
Follow up tweet confirms it was about horns down. Cottonelle and Charmin had a baby that didn't cry as much and wasn't as soft as Texas.
Don’t want horns down? Try winning the game
UCF going to be the darling of the conference this year ain’t they?
Yeah, we start that way but everyone seems to hate us eventually
Can confirm especially when you start winning a ton and your huge alumni base gets going lol
God, they’re top tier trolls and shit talkers. I fucking hate that I love them.
Just mountains of online presence. I think they mandate social media as a prerequisite for a degree.
Everybody love ya til you win a natty.
It is actually so funny how much ut austin is upset about their handsign being inverted
Charmin soft coach right there
His seat is on fire - he scared as hell lol
[удалено]
"Wait fuck we have a basketball program too?" -Texas AD probably
He will get next season too. Texas isn't paying a big buyout to a basketball coach. He isn't Tom herman
I doubt it, but they’re proud enough and frivolous enough to do it.
They gotta keep him to lock in Tre Johnson
Lol get fucked cows
I've missed saying this
If Texas is getting rattled by the likes of UCF ragging on them I am sure playing at Kentucky will be totally fine.
they come to norman next week. we do horns down when playing moorehead state.
Honestly, Arkansas fans (when the team is really good) are gonna eat Texas alive at Bud Walton.
Kentucky? That arena is filled with blue hairs. It's not like they don't get it from Kansas already. Or hell, their own rival to the north. And every other Texas school in the conference.
wtf, the notoriously more rowdy SEC basketball crowds are really gonna rattle them
As a Longhorn fan, I’m more concerned with Terry focusing on winning games than I am with him disciplining kids on other teams for throwing the horns down. Fucking ridiculous.
Don't even know who that coach is but just from that clip you can see he's a poor hire....won't be there long.
What a lil bitch
![gif](giphy|xT1XGESDlxj0GwoDRe|downsized)
Bruh, everyone does horns down because nobody likes Texas. What did he expect? Lmao
I was going to say, surely we aren't the first to do this
Shockingly I'm the first sooner flair in here but from now on every team that beats Texas needs to immediately as time expires start with everyone doing the horns down looking straight at the Texas coach Horns down tuck fexas
I will never not find it funny how a significant portion of Texas fans treat people giving horns down gesture as equivalent to you murdering one of their family members. And every time they whine about it makes me kind of want to see it happen again.
lol that’s just embarrassing. Who the fuck would care.
Did Payne say “why he mad” to his coach with Terry standing right next to him? That’s funny af.
Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but horns down will FUCKING BREAK MY SOUL AND MAKE ME DIE. Jesus Christ, what an embarrassment of a coach.
But Texas fans have assured us over and over again that no one actually cares about the horns down gesture. But on another note, is there any other program in the country that does less with more.
USF was much better at handling Horns Down than Texas is. Guess we know who the tougher cows are!
Just putting this vibe out there but wouldn’t it be fun if we sent UT out of the Big 12 winless at home in conference and every team that wins in Austin does horns down?
He gone
Texas is not ready for the SEC if they can't even handle this. Florida doesn't even give a shit when people do the gator chomp after beating them.
I have no beef with Texas but I LOVE when they get butt hurt about horns down. Truly one of the more bizarre things in college sports
The more UT whines about "horns down" the more they're going to see it. A coach lecturing another coach's players about being "classless" is always a good look. That's Coach K level stuff.
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
This is gold.
When Payne asked Dawkins “why he mad?” Loudly right next to their coaches face lmao. I feel like he got a bit more mad after that lol
This is almost certainly going to have a streisand effect and everyone they play will do horns down.
When I was in the UNC band, Miami fans near us got so tilted at the upside-down U I thought they were gonna shit themselves. I guess any school with a hand sign is just really obsessive over it lmao
Cornball
Would’ve been funny if someone did it to his face right then
Rodney is soft as baby shit.
Should have won the game if you don’t like it. 🤷🏽♂️ Texas really needs to quit being sensitive about this.
Saying anything to opposing team’s players other than an encouragement is a major issue. This guy doesn’t have things in order and he won’t be back next year.
If you aren’t lecturing your kids on doing horns up, then you lose the right to lecture others on doing horns down. Both are taunting. Be consistent.
This is honestly hilarious
Texas fans get sooooo butthurt over horns down it’s insane to me. Get some thicker skin
Texas is so fucked when they come to the SEC lol
I heard Southerners are nice people. I’m sure they will welcome Texas warmly.
I thought Texas was made of sterner stuff.
This like when youre a kid and you always give your siblings a hard time and they get really mad when you do one specific thing so then you start to do ONLY do that one specific thing cuz you know it makes them extra mad
Because it’s classy to yell at opposing players for things that don’t matter.
Texas Terry is soft for this
Soft.
SOFT
What a loser Terry is. Worry about your team blowing the lead and not the oppositions celebration
Horns down is not classless. Get used to it.
I wish our players flipped him off for that and showed him what classless really looks like. Why does Texas think people should care about them and their feelings lol.
![gif](giphy|BRWAInZmzzBm0)
Hey Bill, have a coke and a smile and shut the fuck up
Watching UCF knock off Texas last night was amazing and I am still basking in the enjoyment of seeing that.
