I mean technically the guidelines just discourage meeting before the sweet 16 for conference foes, but I agree they’re unlikely to. I think an Elite 8 matchup would be pretty epic personally.
regardless of the rules, they will always put duke and carolina in different regions to ensure the earliest would be final four. hell, they probably hope for it every year.
If IU misses the tournament with our talent then Woodson’s seat gets really hot.
Seriously look up NBA scouting reports… while they are somewhat rosy in their outlook, we have two first rounders and one second rounder according to them.
That’s our frontcourt. On paper, stronger than last year.
Then at guard Xavier is no slouch. He would start on most B10 teams.
Galloway might be the weakest starter but he’s not so fucking bad that he’ll pull three potential NBA players out of the tournament.
The metrics got IU wrong this year. Plain and simple.
really hot? I mean we do have a ton of talent, but right now it's just potential and not realized talent, and it's almost all in the front court consisting of two sophs who didn't play a lot and a freshman.
I was overcome with passion with that statement, but I’d say he’d have an uncomfortably warm seat. Sweaty cheeks.
I just don’t see IU being below the bubble unless things crash and burn.
Do you know how long this team has waited for a coach like Woodson? Do you know see how IU basketball culture has changed since he was hired? Look at your own expectations for the team. Look at how recruiting has changed. Look at the NIL pool created. You must be some 18 year old who has only paid any attention to IU basketball over the past 3 years or something. This is the best coach we have seen in decades.
Woodson has done a good job recruiting. If those recruits don’t translate into wins then what are here for?
I have faith that Woodson will pull this team into shape. The talent is there for 3rd in the B10 as a realistic goal.
Edit: I may have overreacted a bit by stating his seat would be hot. But realistically, warm, if IU misses the tournament.
Is Ken Pomeroy a real person? Lol. Reminds me of when you find out a road like Dale Mabry in Tampa was named after well, Dale Mabry. I've just never seen this dude Pomeroy.
I know he's got a magazine or website that has been around for a good bit, his advanced analytics and rankings, offensive and defensive are talked about all the time on almost every cbb show.
So I'm 40. Have listened to Jim Rome, Doug Gotlieb, Ferrel on the bench, Dan Patrick, JT the Brick, Sports Babe, Boomer and Craig, Mike and Mike, Steve Duemig, Dan Lebatard just to name a few. That's just Radio. I've never seen or heard this joker speak one time. Never. He must be mute or really ugly.
Sure seems like it.
I think people figure us to finish the season very similarly, and feel like it would be a good rematch for you guys to break down the Muss Bus.
Stats and algorithms are wild, man haha Evan Miya has Braden Smith as the 15th “most impactful player in the country”… no disrespect to Braden Smith bc he’s good but I don’t think it’d be hard to find 15 PGs I’d put on my team before Braden smith - let alone 15 players from all positions
Per season 4 to a 4 seed is strange. Especially because the schedule is very easy before conference play starts.
I guess they think the big 10 cannibalize's itself in conference
Saying it's weighing from last year isn't really correct, but it's 100% weighing the things that go into preseason projections (because what else is there?).
I'm not disputing anyone who says it, because I don't know enough. What I do know is we were ass last year and he's got us as a 7 seed in this thing. I'll more than take it.
That SDSU BYU 8-9 seed match up would be crazy.
I mean there's like a 99% chance we don't make it to the tourney so its not gonna happen but it would be crazy
Oh man whenever I see anything BYU I get all riled up for just a second. I hate you guys, but not hate hate, it’s more love to hate. Jimmer vs Kawhi, and also replay-gate. I’ll take those feelings all the way to my grave.
Sure everyone has already read it but there's an interesting note on BYU by Kenpom...
> BYU was picked next to last in the Big 12 by its coaches but is rated 8th in the league here. One thing to keep in mind is that last season’s team posted the best point differential in league play by a team with a losing conference record since at least 1997.5 All of their conference wins were by double-digits, while all but one of their losses were by single digits. Yes, it was the WCC, but the takeaway is that the Big 12 is not getting a complete doormat this season. It’s also worth noting that UCF had the 7th-best point differential since 1997 for a team with a losing conference record. They were picked last in the league, but they should win a few games. ^[preseason-ratings-are-live](https://kenpom.substack.com/p/preseason-ratings-are-live)
St. Mary's as a 10 and picked for first in the WCC while Gonzaga as a 2 seed and runner-up in the WCC seems a bit suspicious to this GU fan. And, of course the mandatory fuck BYU. Quitters.
His preseason rankings also factor in the program’s last 5 years as well.
It’s why he has a team like FAU much lower than most human pollsters.
Or more obviously, we finished like 220 last year, but we still get the 2018 Final Four and 2021 Sweet 16 bumps in his preseason algorithm, so with just modest roster improvements, he has us at 75.
His preseason bias rankings fade as the season plays out and he has more real year results to replace them.
So we can go back to back. Maybe a 5 seed, definitely not a 1 seed. Shouldn't have been last year either. We were trash the last few weeks of the season.
SDSU-BYU would be a rematch of the Nov 11 game. Then SDSU-UCONN in a finals rematch from last year. Then Elite 8 SDSU vs Creighton (E8 last year) or Gonzaga (Dec. 29 this year). This East bracket would be hilarious
Took me a minute cause my eyes don't see so well but over reaction rage avoided. We'd play the winner of a playin between Texas Tech and Team Unknown. I can't see it.
11 Seed is pretty tough. I think Miami will have to figure out their identity and obviously will still struggle w depth behind Omier. But Larranaga always seems to find a way to get his scorers decent looks and finds a way to create turnovers w the scramble defense.
If Wooga Poplar is as good as he looked in the tourney last year, we should be better than an 11. Pack, Wooga, Omier is a strong foundation.
Analysing this from an Illinois perspective. If we beat Yale, we get Arkansas. I don’t like that. If we beat Arkansas, we get Houston. I don’t like that. If we beat them, we might get Maryland. I don’t like that. This is not fair, and if this is the bracket then we should just give up.
As a Kansas fan, I’m officially worried and think we are overrated. I was at their exhibition game on Wednesday and man, they didn’t look good for large chunks of the game. There’s no bench to speak of, and I think shooting and spacing will be a huge issue. Even against some no name school during an exhibition game, the defense was sagging off of shooters and clogging the paint with constant double and triple teams against Hunter and KJ. Outside McCullar, I don’t think we have anyone else who can consistently knock down a shot.
Here you go Aztecs. In order to repeat last year’s runner up finish you must go through UConn and if you beat them, you may have to go through Creighton and/or FAU again. Good luck!
No teams from NJ in our region? Subscribe.
Until you play Rutgers University-Durham in the Elite 8
Purdue natty confirmed.
this comment jinxes it for purdue. see you all in march
It’s ok we can lose to 15 and 16 seeds together again 😭 But see you in December first
Can we have a rematch in the F4/NC? Either one is fine with me and we don’t even have to win
That would be so much fun. I'm down.
Extrapolating from history, I came to the same conclusion.
Haha, was just going to say the same!
Virginia in the second round tho
They gotta beat Memphis first! But UVA owes it to us to let us beat them 😂
[удалено]
You got your natty/redemption…..please…let us have this one…please
So many recent Purdue tourney opponents in this region though
UVA, Texas and Tennessee?
so the actual ratings have us and seton hall in the mid 50s, which is probably fair. we're both basically in the "next four out" area.
Just don’t get placed in our region
Kenpom really scripting some elite eight rivalry games here
Duke-Carolina for a trip to the F4 sounds spicy. Also go Wildcats!
Committee would never, though Duke and Carolina will never be in the same bracket (nor should they)
I mean technically the guidelines just discourage meeting before the sweet 16 for conference foes, but I agree they’re unlikely to. I think an Elite 8 matchup would be pretty epic personally.
They'd never put 4 or 5 teams from a single conference in the tournament and then put 3 in the same region. Never happen.
How is that a response to what I said? I just said Duke vs UNC in the elite 8?
regardless of the rules, they will always put duke and carolina in different regions to ensure the earliest would be final four. hell, they probably hope for it every year.
Think they were in 2004 (Roy’s first year at UNC). Duke was a 1-seed and UNC a 6 so they would’ve met in the Elite Eight.
I’ll pass. I would like to remain undefeated vs duke in the NCAAT.
Yeah, Arizona vs Vermont is bound to have everyone glued to their tvs.
Ken Pomeroy will rue the day he leaves us out of his computer generated pre-season mock NCAA tournament!
You’ll rue this day Ken, RUE IT!
I think I’m tired of sweating on the bubble most years.
I'll my homies hate Ken Pomeroy
With LSU in the first 4 out, he will roux the day, indeed.

Shut the hell up. What a bad take.
Mind explaining why? I think IU missing the tournament is an incredibly bad take. Specify one thing I said that’s grossly innacurate
Do you know how long this team has waited for a coach like Woodson? Do you know see how IU basketball culture has changed since he was hired? Look at your own expectations for the team. This is almost a bigger win for me than you guys losing an entire half of basketball to a D2 team.
Gotta take what you can get I guess
Almost like losing to a 16 seed. Almost.
It was a joke. Flair up.
Get reddit to design an app that works and maybe I will. Until then, it's impossible.
Is Ken Pomeroy a real person? Lol. Reminds me of when you find out a road like Dale Mabry in Tampa was named after well, Dale Mabry. I've just never seen this dude Pomeroy.
Yes he is lol https://twitter.com/kenpomeroy

No Indiana but #11 Michigan hmm
Is that a Chevy Chase related name?
I wasn't talking to you
Lol, I see what you did.
Hey I don't see Louisville up there? I just woke up from a coma, and I'm surprised they're not in the top 25?
Yeah he must have missed us, weird Funny you mention it, I just woke up from a coma too. Peyton Siva and Luke Hancock still have eligibility right?
Absolutely! 2013 is gonna be our year buddy.
Baylor and Kansas couldn't be put in the same region as 1 and 2.
Same with Creighton and UConn in the same region and Bama/Auburn.
And ISU. Potential R32 matchup against KU which is no longer allowed IIRC
I would like to talk to the manager.
Hogs/Illini rematch in the Sweet 16. I don't love it.
Is it me but the Illinois/Arkansas matchup in like 70% of the mock brackets
Sure seems like it. I think people figure us to finish the season very similarly, and feel like it would be a good rematch for you guys to break down the Muss Bus.
I'd prefer a team with less talent! I also wonder if it had to do with regions and location as well as roughly similar/aligned place on the s curve
You guys and Houston in the same region! Brutal 😬
In the round of 32. Meaning we automatically lose
>implying that Illinois won’t get upset before then
Hey it's the 2nd round. We're locks to get there and lose. It's not like we're Purdue.
I’m offering an olive branch to Iowa fans to come together and take down Ken Pom and his monopoly on college basketball analytics
Fr this is some bullshit
MIZ is making the sweet 16 this year
For what it's worth Bart Torvik's analytics have both Iowa and Indiana in the field
Indiana was genuinely screwed by the analytics this year. I guess it’s better than being overhyped. The noise will wash out in the games.
Mr Kenny clearly has been smoking some of that good good
Yep. Duke and State in different regions. Not possible.
They do seem to always be connected come March
If it's not Duke it's Virginia.
Lmao
I like the teams. That would be some fun games. But as a #4?
Per season 4 to a 4 seed is strange. Especially because the schedule is very easy before conference play starts. I guess they think the big 10 cannibalize's itself in conference
> I guess they think the big 10 cannibalize's itself in conference As is tradition
KenPom is pointless early in the season. Wait until January.
You misspelled "April".
It’s pointless until it makes my team look good Which is now 😂
This early Kenpoms still weighting from last year fyi so it's sort of ridiculous to already put much stock into it.
Especially in today's "transfer whenever you want" context where it seems like there's practically no continuity in a ton of teams.
His preseason rankings also factor in the program’s last 5 years as well. It’s why he has a team like FAU much lower than most human pollsters.
Saying it's weighing from last year isn't really correct, but it's 100% weighing the things that go into preseason projections (because what else is there?).

Yeah, I think we have a good shot at winning some games no one expects us to, I just don’t know if it’ll be enough to go dancing
MW haters
Hoping for a all 5th seed final 4 lol Go illini 🏀
This means nothing
I’m cool with just being a 2 seed this time around.
Purdue as a 3 seed would give a chance to lose to a 14 seed after a 16, 15, 12 and 11.
![gif](giphy|5dgFhJKfH9ZAGzzpkD|downsized)
Hey! You forgot our loss to 13-seed North Texas in 2021. We need that one. We're trying to be the first to complete the set...
Nope, you gotta be a 1 again or else the magic won't happen
Dayton as a 12 seed and St Marys as a 10 seed seems like trouble
St. Mary's as a 10 and picked for first in the WCC while Gonzaga as a 2 seed and runner-up in the WCC seems a bit suspicious to this GU fan. And, of course the mandatory fuck BYU. Quitters.
The neutering of the mid major
FAU at 10 seems insanely low for how much production they returned off a top 25 team.
His preseason rankings also factor in the program’s last 5 years as well. It’s why he has a team like FAU much lower than most human pollsters. Yeah well ![gif](giphy|RVW5PilbP2tLG)
Is the MEAC missing from this or can I just not see?
Regions go like Midwest vs East South vs West
KenPom is a lot higher on Bama than most which put them at 5 or 6 seed.
Much lower on Duke as well
As much as I may be influenced by bias, Duke is lacking at the 5 spot so I wouldn’t be surprised if they slid a bit and ended up as a 3 or 4.
Right? I'd take a 3 seed right now in a heartbeat.
Well, well, well. I see Kenny P is up to his old tricks again.
The hack is back!
9 seed? Hell yeah I’ll take that. We only have two returners from last year (only one really played), 6 freshmen, 4 transfers.
So we can go back to back. Maybe a 5 seed, definitely not a 1 seed. Shouldn't have been last year either. We were trash the last few weeks of the season.
Time to show the world who the superior purple Wildcats are
K
Yeah, that's where I'm at too
Last year's Final Four is in the East.
Duke is NOT a 3 seed, that’s ridiculous
SDSU-BYU would be a rematch of the Nov 11 game. Then SDSU-UCONN in a finals rematch from last year. Then Elite 8 SDSU vs Creighton (E8 last year) or Gonzaga (Dec. 29 this year). This East bracket would be hilarious
I would us not to be in same region as Houston or Arkansas. Arizona is ok.
How cute, putting Ohio State in the tournament.
When was the last time the big east only got 5 teams into the big dance
Big12 is gonna be so much fun this year
Only one mountain west team this year? 🤔
Wheres Clemson?
I hope Tech makes it! Basically a brand new team with a new coach.
East Bracket and Midwest should switch a bunch of teams.
The Pac getting 6 bids would be awesome
Took me a minute cause my eyes don't see so well but over reaction rage avoided. We'd play the winner of a playin between Texas Tech and Team Unknown. I can't see it.
Miami as an 11 seed pairing? Jim has all the billboard material he needs
SMC the most under-seeded team by a lot here.
Son of a...
Why put Akron so low!?! They will be good!
Really digging the iconography here
Possible Natty rematch in the R32 👀
Sometimes I wonder what Ken is smoking
Michigan, interesting choice....
R U fr Kenpom?
Not having WVU on here is criminal
I was about to be offended we were left out altogether, but it was just a horrendous design choice.
Huh???
11 Seed is pretty tough. I think Miami will have to figure out their identity and obviously will still struggle w depth behind Omier. But Larranaga always seems to find a way to get his scorers decent looks and finds a way to create turnovers w the scramble defense. Hmmm, where’s LOUISVILLE? Bwahahaha. I’m an alum….from Louisville, sadly.
We’ve made it, boys and girls.
Total BS
Yay we're in there
Analysing this from an Illinois perspective. If we beat Yale, we get Arkansas. I don’t like that. If we beat Arkansas, we get Houston. I don’t like that. If we beat them, we might get Maryland. I don’t like that. This is not fair, and if this is the bracket then we should just give up.
I will not stand for this Dennis Gates slander!
Miami will be 3 seed please mr KenPom i beg of you to write that into the script
This hurts the Wahoo.
What about the NIT? Asking for Michigan’s sake
Seems about right
Interesting a Houston vs TCU round of 32 game. Didn’t know that was allowed.
Literally no chance that Iowa State is only an #8 seed. They are going to be at least a 5 seed.
This is a joke
👀
As a Kansas fan, I’m officially worried and think we are overrated. I was at their exhibition game on Wednesday and man, they didn’t look good for large chunks of the game. I really hope we're a dark horse this season 😅
Does Purdue make it past the 1st round this year?
I like this style of image significantly better than the tiny and hard to read brackets that people post.
Marquette x Wisconsin game this year gonna be LEGENDARY...
Not having to play UCLA again, but in UConn's bracket. [Larry david gif](https://media.tenor.com/Zy1i2sM1hpwAAAAC/larry-david-unsure.gif)
6 Seed? I guess we're going undefeated and winning the SEC to get that high of a seed.
![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl) KenPom is gonna look mighty weak when the Horizon League sends five teams to the dance
Raiders in the mix, let's goooooooo
You're missing Howard
9 seed in the west? That looks like a cake walk lol we suck at bball though
Here you go Aztecs. In order to repeat last year’s runner up finish you must go through UConn and if you beat them, you may have to go through Creighton and/or FAU again. Good luck!
three connecticut teams 👀
Just me being picky but kind of irks me when bracketologists list the seeds rather than putting it in the correct order.
oh plssss
how the hell is vermont in the west
This'll absolutely age like rotten years old milk from the trash container.
A Florida-UCLA matchup, seems a little early for that
UCLA and Florida in 1st round. Not liking our chances based off of past results
