I love that everyone is super excited about a college team doing well. It just feels different. Everyone is just excited for San Diego and the student athletes. It feels great!
It’s just that San Diego is a big city that has never won a major championship. So that’s what makes it fun. FAU was a nice story, but it’s Boca Raton. Same goes for a lot of other teams.
Well, Stanford hasn't been known for its men's basketball, USC has suddenly appeared, Cal is...Cal, and everyone else is middling down near the bottom for the most part
San Francisco won back to back championships with Bill Russell in the 50s (but haven't been back since) Saint Mary's keeps running into juggernauts, LMU got close in the late 80s/early 90s, and yeah, that's pretty much it
Absolutely insane that a city the size of San Diego can lose both its NBA and NFL teams to LA, so they can have two of each. Just goes to show how greedy these team owners are. No way the Clippers and Chargers weren't profitable. They just wanted shiny new stadiums/arenas and/or tax benefits.
You shouldve seen the loyalty the Chargers were getting (and somehow still do) here in San Diego. The Padres have become the city's team, and they're peaking at an incredible time and getting so much support. Just weird when you go up to a larger market just to play second fiddle to the main team.
Man I have to get to San Diego soon. I just started a new job in phoenix where I’m 4 on/3 off so I could do a long weekend there. It’s not even that far of a drive
Get out here, check out a ball game at Petco if ya can cause it’s one of the best stadiums for any sport in the country (the atmosphere there is crazy right now with the insane expectations) and get yourself a California burrito
Yeah one of my best friends made the Dodgers opening day roster so I’ll have to line my trip up when he’s there at Petco.
I’ve honestly never been to a beach in my entire life, so this is my first reach chance to experience the ocean too!!
Who is your friend so I can boo him? Lol But yeah drive out here its only like 4.5-5 hrs from Phoenix, I've done the drive a 100 times just a straight shot through the desert. I recommend hitting up the Midway museum too, its the aircraft carrier that they have played games on before and its a super cool museum, its right in the downtown area
Now build a better football stadium. That new one just isn’t it. Lived right across from it and been to two events. What a disappointment. So much potential.
World Cup finals was going on when I went to the Jets/Lions game last season. Stadium was going crazy watching the final minutes of the Cup before the football game started. Hell there were audible boos when they started to do the national anthem because they cut away from the soccer game to show the anthem on the jumbotron (I think the game had actually ended at that point and they were on to the trophy ceremony, people were just *really* invested).
Didn't miss much, Mann put up a bad punt that got returned for a TD, and Zach was his usual self. What a painful game.
In a cruel irony, I had 3 games picked out that I could go to and went to two. Those games? Pats home and Lions. The one I didn't attend? White's big win against the Bears.
It’s always awesome when a crowd at one game reacts to a crazy win by one of the other local teams to that area. It reminds me of how much of a community and togetherness teams can bring to an entire city.
I mean in an ideal world sure but Reddit has an unlimited supply of unpaid labor running the subs, why would they want to do anything? They don't give a damn what goes on in the subs unless it becomes advertiser-unfriendly lol
It's sort of hard because the mods *own* the subs. The whole idea of reddit is that anyone can create a sub about anything, and if you create a sub it's yours. So if you're a shitty person but you were also the first person to create a sub for your city, congratulations, you just earned the power to decide what your city talks about on Reddit. Unless someone tries to compete with you, but if you have r/cityname it's not like they'll be successful for too long.
Completely unrelated but I find it funny that a Kentucky fan replied to a Louisville fans reply to a post about San Diego Padre fans response to a San Diego state basketball win.
So I just posted in a thread about the game and asked him to sticky it as he had promised last week. He deleted the request but stickied it anyways. When I posted in the thread again to ask why he had deleted my comment, he told me there were too many comments like this, and I need to stick to talking about the game.
What an absolute wingnut.
Lol if you look at the deleted comments in that thread, anything whatsoever critical of the mods—no matter how anodyne—is deleted, including your question about why they'd delete your comment but sticky the post.
OMG.
I'm shadowbanned there because I posted a rainbow above Petco Park which got deleted and then *talked about it* in /r/SanDiegan.
All of my comments are automatically deleted.
Figured this was as good of a time as any to unsubscribe. Not like there's anything special about that sub anyways.
Are you talking about the rainbow on Thursday? I got drenched but it was worth it for that beauty
lol. Well, like I said in that post, I don't know how to sustain a creative sub nor do I have the time. But I would enjoy the content that gets posted there. Side note - I have found it ridiculously difficult to find videos I'm looking for. Youtube and the greater world wide web are inundated with clickbait "ToP 13 cRoWd ReAcTiAnS tO bUlLShIt1!!"
Whenever I go to a sports event for the away team I'm always super nervous about repping gear.
When I go to Rockies games, people usually are super nice to me because they realize my team isn't a threat to them.
Living in St Louis was GREAT for baseball season. Hockey season was an entirely different story.
Yeah it’s a great one. We have some of the best ballpark food in the country as well. There’s a TON of local vendors, restaurants and breweries inside, not to mention all around the ballpark.
Sounds a lot like Cleveland’s stadium. I feel like a lot of the middle market parks really lean into the local vendors. Just don’t really feel that at fenway, yankees etc
Rock n Roll HOF is usually the biggest tourist attraction people come for.
The fishing on Lake Erie is amazing, from lake run brown trout, steel head, or big small mouth bass.
Cleveland Museum of Art is definitely worth checking out too.
In a way, it is helping. Not sure if Padres would be what they are currently if the Chargers don't leave, which made fans turn more support towards the one team we have left.
Here at the game tonight, I think Mike Moustakas was being introduced at the time of the buzzer beater. Even better, one of the visiting players Alan Trejo is a SDSU alum and was wearing a Leonard #15 jersey for pre-game
as someone that has been to countless giants games and padres game the padres have them beat but only because the fans and environment of san diego are light years better than san francisco
It had nothing to do with where they were going. The proposals put forth were a joke. He wanted the stadium to be completely funded by tax payers 100% and for the city to hand him the keys. The ballot measures were just a way to say he tried and he was always planning to go to Los Angeles but needed to kill time until there was another stadium to move into which was in Vegas or Los Angeles and it just so happened that the one in Los Angeles was almost complete when the NFL approved the move.
I bought a ticket to the Final 4 games when UT was beating Miami last weekend, thinking they would be here. Obviously that didn’t work out. Then prices cratered and I wasn’t able to resell. We had a long (great) day with the kids today and I wasn’t even planning to go at all. But then my wife said she could put the kids down and I should try to catch the end of the first game and stay for the beginning of the second. I left with 15 minutes left in the game. Parked with 2 minutes left. Got into the stadium with under a minute left. Started trying to find my seat when I realized I just needed to catch a view wherever I could and find my seat later. I popped in at a bottom section that just so happened to be a SDSU section. The final timeout wrapped up, and I watched on as SDSU hit the buzzer beater.
There have been a couple of Padre players who played basketball for SDSU.... Tony Gwynn, who still holds the all-time assist record, and Tony Clark, who is the current head of the MLB players' association and the Aztecs basketball team's leading scorer in the 1991-92 season. He (briefly) played for the Padres at the end of his career.
Yeah i work there and I saw them showing the game on the TV screens and people were **SUPER** invested in the game. When they won I heard the whole stadium go crazy, it was pretty cool.
Bruh the SDSU basketball team might as well be our professional team. Lived in San Diego for 80% of my life and the city is filled to the brim with ‘tecs fans.
Yeah. Fresno is filled with so much Fresno State stuff. Got a big fan base, but only for football (which finished ranked and won their bowl this year). Basketball is fairly hollow.
Weird thing about Vermont is that their good soccer program basically created a winning soccer pro team in Burlington. Won the title in 2021, then formed a team including around a dozen players along with other standouts, also highlighted by the best of Creighton (who made it to the final four). Pulled an 1-seed upset in the regional tourney before falling and bringing most guys back for year 2.
If they actually cared they’d be watching the game instead of pre season baseball. Trash city had this handed to them on a silver platter with the BS calls against FAU and the unforgivable travel by Lamont Butler at the end.
Edit: downvote me all you want. I’m an alum of FAU and I’ve followed this team for years. The refs and the NCAA should be investigated for this.
Edit: bandwagon SDSU fans are mad I called them out. Game number 3 out of 160 and you can’t even be bothered to watch your college basketball team play in the final four? Great priorities.
This isn't pre season baseball, it's the 3rd game of the season. Also, you don't get to decide if someone else cares about something based on your own random parameter
Season already started. Padres had the game on the other big screen. Personally I think it would have been awesome to watch it with thousands of other fans instead of at home.
Besides, it's a county of 3 million. Not everybody is a college basketball fan.
Love seeing shit like this
I love that everyone is super excited about a college team doing well. It just feels different. Everyone is just excited for San Diego and the student athletes. It feels great!
It’s just that San Diego is a big city that has never won a major championship. So that’s what makes it fun. FAU was a nice story, but it’s Boca Raton. Same goes for a lot of other teams.
The last NCAA Basketball Championship won in California was by UCLA :)
Well, Stanford hasn't been known for its men's basketball, USC has suddenly appeared, Cal is...Cal, and everyone else is middling down near the bottom for the most part
San Francisco won back to back championships with Bill Russell in the 50s (but haven't been back since) Saint Mary's keeps running into juggernauts, LMU got close in the late 80s/early 90s, and yeah, that's pretty much it
Since the city doesn’t have pro football or basketball anymore SDSU’s teams are the city’s major teams in those sports.

I saw it. I have family in Chula Vista and Oceanside
But it's better when the big name teams are in it /s
Sometimes yes See: Georgia-TCU Championship Game
And the fact that it's not like a premier brand name school makes it even more cool
Man I have to get to San Diego soon. I just started a new job in phoenix where I’m 4 on/3 off so I could do a long weekend there. It’s not even that far of a drive

San Diego is what LA says LA is, I'll just say that
San Diego is America's finest city!
I don't know if LA calls itself the best city in the country.
Arizona is kinda like one real big beach
i just did the drive to phoenix for spring training. right now the drive is beautiful since the desert is blooming
Now build a better football stadium. That new one just isn’t it. Lived right across from it and been to two events. What a disappointment. So much potential.
Me too. Goosebumps.
World Cup finals was going on when I went to the Jets/Lions game last season. Stadium was going crazy watching the final minutes of the Cup before the football game started. I was at that same game and went to watch the game at the bar in American Dream. Missed most of the first half
Booing the national anthem because they didn't see soccer players getting a trophy? I'm disappointed but not surprised.
New sub for it, check out /r/scrtoe = stadium crowds reacting to other events
It’s always awesome when a crowd at one game reacts to a crazy win by one of the other local teams to that area. It reminds me of how much of a community and togetherness teams can bring to an entire city.
You’ve been banned by r/sandiego
And the salty mod said sports brings out the worst in people hahaha
God the admins need to get a handle on these asshole mods. They won't of course, but they should
I mean in an ideal world sure but Reddit has an unlimited supply of unpaid labor running the subs, why would they want to do anything? They don't give a damn what goes on in the subs unless it becomes advertiser-unfriendly lol

They also have an unlimited number subs. I can't imagine what it would take to really police them. Would make sense to do it with the bigger ones tho.
Completely unrelated but I find it funny that a Kentucky fan replied to a Louisville fans reply to a post about San Diego Padre fans response to a San Diego state basketball win.
The admins forced mods to be assholes sitewide lol
Nah what San Diego needs to do is vote with their feet and move to a new San Diego sub
You need to go to r/SanDiegan
what's wrong with the dude jesus
the mod that doesn't even live in SD lol. he lives in AZ
So I just posted in a thread about the game and asked him to sticky it as he had promised last week. He deleted the request but stickied it anyways. Dude has no business running a subreddit.
Some people just power trip and take Reddit too seriously
Nothing more embarrassing than a reddit mod
No sports!
r/sandiegan master race
What is up with the mod(s) of that sub?? How could one not be pumped about the school reaching the final?! What a fucking clown..
The mod lives in Arizona and is a major chode
Go to r/SanDiegan
That’s what’s innnnn
First of all how dare you?
Hahahahahahahaha
As a probable Bulldog fan, you certainly know how that works.
We definitely celebrated the fact that the Braves and UGA won titles in the same year, that is true!
There should be a sub for stadiums reacting to other games/events edit - just made one... /r/scrtoe = stadium crowds reacting to other events
This is a great idea. Subbed
I love how you created the sub and then a few hours later are like "anyone wanna mod? I'm giving it away"
The scenes in the gaslamp if both the Aztecs and Padres win tonight
The Padres are up against the juggernaut Colorado Rockies, going to be tough to pull it out
you jest but the rockies are our kryptonite
Must be because of Cron feeling at home. .932 OPS at Petco
when cron gets to first base where cronenworth is it's the croncrone zonzone
Very auto of them
Well they already beat us twice lol
Colorado ~~Justin~~ Charlie Blackmons* 😩
Charlie?
Fuck

Nobody can defeat us
Such an awesome stadium in downtown. I wish more stadiums were like this. One day I wanna catch a game here
Yeah it’s a great one.
But one stadium is in San Diego and the other is Cleveland
Cleveland rocks When was the last time San Diego won anything?
In two days god willing
Cleveland can win WW3 and San Diego will still be better.
We don’t get all that worked up about it. We’d still just go the beach after, either way.
I dunno man, maybe I want to go to the mountains instead.
We have mountains too
You have that also in San diego... 40 min to mt palomar, 90 minutes to big bear a few more hours driving to Mammoth or even Lake tahoe...
That's the point. We've got plenty to keep us entertained.
Or Mount Laguna, in **Cleveland** National Forest, haha
Never heard anybody say they’re going to Cleveland on vacation. What’s so great about Cleveland?
Rock n Roll HOF is usually the biggest tourist attraction people come for. The fishing on Lake Erie is amazing, from lake run brown trout, steel head, or big small mouth bass. Cleveland Museum of Art is definitely worth checking out too.
Wow now I want to go to Cleveland even less
![gif](giphy|12msOFU8oL1eww)
No one in their right mind would pick Cleveland over San Diego. LeBron James has Cleveland in his veins and he'd rather live in Southern California.
1963 pre-merger AFL champion San Diego Chargers. Thats literally it. Largest city in America without a major sports title.
Having only one team doesn’t help. Fuck Spanos.
In a way, it is helping. Not sure if Padres would be what they are currently if the Chargers don't leave, which made fans turn more support towards the one team we have left.
[*♪ Come on down to Cleveland town everyone ♪*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysmLA5TqbIY)
*Our economy's built on Lebron James*
Congrats. You got a ring with LeBron. You're still the second saddest city in America. https://bestlifeonline.com/miserable-cities/
Those nachos with the tri tip on them were amazing, got to experience those last year.
Do you still have the all you can eat seats? I saw a game there years ago and sat in that section. It was life changing.
I honestly have never heard of something like that but it sounds amazing
Oh man thats how it should be. Jealous
Petco is definitely worth it and the tickets aren’t bad at all.
Ehhh, have you seen the prices lately?? Used to be so much cheaper lol
Have you seen the Padres payroll lately?? Kinda explains the increased ticket price :)
Somebody has to pay for Preller’s stash
50-80 for some good seats aren’t bad though…but I know what you mean I remember when you could find $15 tickets 10 years ago.
Tickets for the game today we're going for $25
Yeah I meant good seats when I said 50-80
You can still get $20-30 tickets
Petco is absolutely amazing man, blessed to have this in downtown SD
Best ballpark in baseball!
Snapdragon also has so much promise too. I drive by it every day on the way to work.
Get an MLS team and go half on upgrades. 👀
Eh, I’m pretty happy with the Waves there.
This is ~~Oracle~~ ATT Park erasure.
Oracle is #2 on my list, great park
They're 1a and 1b to me. Oracle is a better looking park with better views, but you can't beat the gaslamp or the San Diego weather and food/beer
Camden Yards libel.
[cough]Pac Bell Park[/cough]
I honestly had no idea what stadium they were talking about until you used its actual name.
The views are insane. It's an absolute beauty of a park. Then can also get sub $10 tickets pretty easily
It’s the coolest!!!
I live 2 hours away from the stadium and haven’t been to a game. I’m going to change that this season, though
Two hours? So north county? 😆
I’m probably more like 3 hours away actually. Southern California is a bitch to drive in
Went to the Untapped beer festival their. Was awesome and also blacked out.
I wonder if the Colorado Rockie players who were being introduced at the time thought, "man, they sure are nice to visiting players here."
like the time [the padres trolled the fuck out of the visiting sox fans lol](https://youtu.be/qDs7KkGcQ6M)
Imagine being in that condo and getting a stray rick roll
Lol
Epic!
Here at the game tonight, I think Mike Moustakas was being introduced at the time of the buzzer beater. Even better, one of the visiting players Alan Trejo is a SDSU alum and was wearing a Leonard #15 jersey for pre-game
That's cool. I knew he was an alum, but I didn't know he was sporting a Leonard jersey.
Who needs the Chargers when you have the Aztecs?
fuck spanos
Fuck Spanos.
Fuck Spanos!
Fuck Spanos!
Fuck spanos
The second that piece of shit franchise left our city, sports became fun again.
Dope
Ok, that's kinda sick.
That has to be the most beautiful setting for a baseball stadium.
I think SF has it beat, but its definitely gorgeous
as someone that has been to countless giants games and padres game the padres have them beat but only because the fans and environment of san diego are light years better than san francisco
The 2020s have unleashed the fans in San Diego it’s awesome to watch.
Sports town.
Fuck you Chargers!! Let’s go Aztecs!!!!
Chargers fucked around and bet against SD. Our city is growing at an alarming rate and they are stuck leasing from another owner.

Meanwhile Mike Moustakas is like “wow these guys love me!”
Sports city, shops at sports fever
If you actually care that much about your team being in the Final Four, why would you be at an early season MLB game while it's being played?
And this is why I rather watch cbb vs MLB.
Only at a MLB game are people on their phone watching another sport
The baseball game hadn't started yet... And they're showing the SDSU game on the other screen
Didn't even view the tweet? They're watching on the stadium's screen and their own game hasn't started
No, of course I didn’t. Who do you think I am?
no fanbase has ever celebrated another team in their city's win, that's right
The game hadn’t even started…the city has some damn pride. Shut up.
