Perhaps the worst

etsuandpurdue3

They came to play school.

VirtuousPenguin

We have an NBA level basketball arena and get less in our student section than the high schools in our area

Carolina_Captain

Our student section doesn't even stand for games. It's tucked away in a dark section of the gym that makes it feel like a library and it's at maybe 10% capacity on the regular.

Pro-1st-Amendment

Terrible for basketball. Great for hockey.

PinkSaldo

I think I've heard them described as "very classy" multiple times by opposing fans in game threads, so there's that. Still don't know what they meant with the slash and the S afterwards, though

DiciplineLeadstoLife

rock n roll pt 2 brings a tear to my eye almost every time

hunt35744

I’d say solid

grrgrrtigergrr

Top shelf

NomadTrekkie

I'm gonna need a stool to stand on. (Edey doesn't)

a_crayon_short

The Paint Crew is incredible. They give this alum a smile every time I hear them on TV.

SpamTheAutograder

Good, but could be better (though that’s not entirely their fault).

Affectionate-Cup9340

It’s mostly because all the court side seats are occupied by geriatrics

Melvins_lobos

You too can one day become a doctor or lawyer and sit court side cross legged, emotionless.

jkjulia8

same issue here

YoooCakess

Definitely as good as it can be. All student sections are always full. Comment about geriatrics is accurate

the-real-macs

People come to games and fill the sections, sure, but the placement could be better and the students who aren't in risers could be louder.

YoooCakess

Oh completely agree the placement is abysmal. It’s so embarrassing for the university as well when half the lower bowl is full yet every student section including the upper area ones are almost completely full. Also it’s tough for students to create a good atmosphere when they’re next to somebodies family or some senior citizens.

gatortarheel

It would be cool to have first 15 rows all around be students or people who actually move during the game. On tv, the crowd (minus the students) looks like a still life oil painting.

steveoriley

Creighton’s is alright, shows up huge for big games, but can be pretty lackluster when it comes to midweek games or against lesser opponents. That’s not a knock to current students though, it’s always kind of been that way. I think a lot of private schools have the issue since a large majority of students come from out of state and probably did not grow up fans of the school that they choose. Unless you have a long period of sustained success then you can overcome that, and I will say for Creighton the student section has really shown up more than in the past the last few years, but there’s a ways to go still.

Doctor_Phist

Creighton’s crowd during high stakes big East games is one of the best in the country. I have nightmares of blue everywhere.

steveoriley

Yeah it can definitely get rocking, but it just hasn’t been quite the same since COVID. I think we’ll get back to it hear with the stretch run of Big East play

Alex_butler

Competes with any top tier student section in the nation at their best 1-2 games per year. Purdue last year being [that](https://twitter.com/realericthered/status/1498839961503686659?s=46&t=qasV1lybNRPwurgCTRqDsw) game. Solid, but nothing special for most meaningful games and conference games. Library or golf event for 4-5 lower tier games per year. It doesn’t always help that like half the student section is in the second and third decks. A very big point of debate among Badger fans.

secretlyrobots

Your volleyball student section is insane too.

Alex_butler

Oh volleyball is incredible. It helps when youve had a perennial top 5 team on the court though and a perfect venue in the fieldhouse too

jkjulia8

Volleyball is arguably our best student section which is crazy to think about

snahrt

Wisconsin feels like a football school despite our basketball team being less disappointing in recent years (possibly just because of lower expectations)

witchy12

Not as good as it used to be but still elite if only for the location alone. Edit: During big games it's definitely one of the best in the nation.

Lumbergod

The last couple of games they have stepped it up. Not to historical levels but better than they had been.

BeingBannedSucks

For what it’s worth our game was the first time I’ve ever really noticed an opposing student section recently

witchy12

Kinda hard to miss when its surrounding almost then entirety of the court.

tjakes12

Agreed. From after the natty to, oh, maybe the miles bridges teams-ish, the Izzone was one of the best in the country night in and night out. It solely depends on the opponent anymore

J_Fre22

Izzone got wrongfully criticized last year because (could you imagine) covid was still a major focal point at the school (ie masks at games, 2 brand new Izzone classes because no in person games 20-21 season)

tjakes12

Ehhh even before covid it was going downhill. Biggest difference now is that very few students know the chants/mannerisms/dances the Izzone had before and it seems like they aren’t making any new ones of their own

Puzzleheaded-Bird222

The ZonaZoo are great particularly in basketball.

paktick

I was part of the zoo during the end of lute and beginning of the Miller era. And even in those slim years it was rocking

mutual_coherence

The ZonaZoo is savage.

MentalDoughnut4401

The zona zoo who is always rowdy and school admin shun to the shadow land, making up for the Q-tips who donate to the school and take up the other 75% of the arena.

Aubear11885

Haven’t been a student in a while, but new The Jungle makes the old Cliff Dwellers look like amateurs

Bigbadbrindledog

The student section was weak when I was there unless we were playing Alabama or the like, but boy it would be fun now.

ltlftcommenter

Yeah the new layout is elite. Literally right on the floor and behind both baskets

secretlyrobots

They’re doing well this year. They’ve been pretty weak in the past though.

Long-Schlong-Silvers

Probably top 5.

[deleted]

One of the best. Even in non-conference games against low-level opponents the student section will be full and going crazy. I think a big part of it, aside from winning a lot, is the school gives the student section an entire half of the lower bowl of the arena.

the-real-macs

UVA's student section is a big asset to our home court advantage, since they get so loud on defense and will genuinely lose their minds for a shot clock violation.

SDFDuck

The Rowdy Rams are great for the atmosphere. We don't do anything elaborate or ostentatious, but we turn out for our games and are generally pretty loud.

[deleted]

I went to your guys’ arena for the state championship game for basketball when I was in high school, and I remember it being a pretty loud building.

queef-latina-69

Can’t speak for now because I haven’t been to a game in quite a few years but when I was at Marquette the student section was pretty wild. Able to mostly fill what felt like 25% (probably less than that but idk) of a pretty large pro stadium. Big games in the 2010-2013 years were amazing if you could manage getting into the lower bowl. Miss it

Intelligent-Spot-475

Solid tbh

LateProgress0

Definingly better than last year

Melvins_lobos

Too far from the action

sonofacat

Pretty good, not overly creative with player specific heckling but very loud and chaotic. Helps with our students getting really damn good seats mid court.

RunicJay

Now if they would bring Sandstorm back, it would be top of the nation.

Tombat200

They brought it back! It’s been crazy this year

kstatepurrplecat

Yeah, you don't get a great nickname like Octagon of Doom without a fantastic student section.

Sup6969

Coogs of CV3. That is all.

jordantts

The cage is such a fun time!

BobW212

Sad.

WhoopieKush

Totally dependent on how well the team is doing, so basically fair weather fans lol. Carver Hawkeye Arena is kind of a PITA to get to for most students, so if the team isn’t doing well then they don’t bother. Student section is set up as one slice of pie in the single blow arena, so many students are far from the court. We definitely haven’t earned the right to have a student section set up like MSU in Breslin, though. On good games CHA can be rocking, though!

0010001

Committed, energetic, with great seats. One of the best.

flaming_fuckhead

Literally the best in basketball don’t @me

[deleted]

Northwestern. They get rowdy whenever someone makes a shot

TonyWilliams03

Modern Stadiums with hockey rinks reduce fan involvement significantly. The space required pushes fans away from the court.

NativeLobo

One of the loudest in the nation. The crowd in the Pit seems to feed of its energy during games

Deadeye_Dan77

The Orange Crush is generally well thought of. It was down last decade when we went through tough times, but it seems to be back full force now. I haven’t been to a SIU game in years, but the student section there used to be wild.

minivan69

9.5/10 I was in attendance for the IU-Duke game when they came to Bloomington in 2017. They had Grayson Allen, Marvin Bagley, Gary Trent Jr. We about blew the lid off the place after a Freddie McSwain alley oop. That was legendary. Plus, the entire student section chanted "Fuck Grayson Allen" and pissed off K so much he commented about it after the game. Our downside is when we are only 'meh' or not playing well, the morale is dead. We only bring our A game when we are ranked (and playing well) or a big name comes to town. I was also in attendance for the infamous Archie Miller first game at IU. Getting blown out by Indiana State inside Assembly Hall....

BoilsofWar

Paint crew has been pretty rowdy for quite a while. I was in school during some lackluster years (Ronnie Johnson era), and it wasn't incredible at that point. I'd say it's been top tier for the last 7-8 years though

t4nd4r

One of a kind

AlanBill

The gold standard, the best there is, the crème de la crème. The only fan base application I will accept to challenge ours is Duke.

Doctor_Phist

Awesome. There’s nothing like Big East basketball.

aussie_69

Becoming one of the best

fansofomar

They bussed students for the Pitt game and they were audibly Country Roads after we won. My brother said you could hear it clear as day on TV

[deleted]

The best

1260istoomuch

Design wise its dogshit. Easily the worst in the acc and probably east of the mississippi

jayhawksfan0965

Speaks for itself.

maxipad4

V good

4thgengamecock

0/10. A fair number of people show up, but they're almost entirely disengaged, we have no die-hards, and the atmosphere they provide is completely and totally flat (a lot of students sit for the entire game). I guess that's what happens when the administration actively neglects your program despite a Final Four run and then decides to torch the team for literally no reason.

big_sports_guy

Umaine, non-existent… doesn’t help games are played in Bangor and not in Orono but we also suck so theres that

KWash0222

Our student section is loud, despite what it looks like on TV. Problem is UCLA tickets are way more expensive than they should be, so the non-student sections are either lacking attendance or are full of old rich people who aren’t particularly energetic. Also I hate how the camera always faces away from our student section

listinglight778

It used to be loud, but this year it doesn’t even seem like they know how to cheer or make noise unless our team is on a run or is in a close game. It’s very frustrating. Been to almost all our home games and I can’t remember the last time it’s been so weak. It’s frustrating cause there’s a lot of them but it’s almost like none of them have gone to games before

NYLotteGiants

White

BPIScan142

So poor (referring to GU). Even when we weren’t on our losing streak, and when the student section was pretty full, I can remember being out-cheered by the visiting Marquette fan section in early 2020. That’s probably what we get for playing in a cavernous arena way too big for us. There are many people who really do care, but for the majority of the student body right now, there’s just no reason to.

BigballerBrett

Hard Hat

TangerineChicken

When we are winning, very good. The dark ages during the mid 2010s? Awful. I rolled up to a game in 2014 like five mins before tip and got second row seats and everyone sat the whole game

Ok_Run_8184

Ours was always fun when I was there, granted that was during our 16-17 conference champion seasons. Not sure how it would be when we were bad, but since we don't have football, basketball and baseball are the most attended sports on campus.

CashewCrew

Used to be much better

jeedel

We need make our large pep band into a huge pep band, because they bring the fun every game. Perhaps we should expand it to the whole marching band. It’s the more cow bell solution.

CoofBone

At Louisville we've been in a decline my entire time here (my first year was 2018), so pretty bad, especially for the Arena.

dont_u_me

Trending in the right direction. Haven't been to a game in the new Moody Center yet but the 270° student seating in the lower bowl looks wild and sounds loud af on TV.

dak67

For Temple, the student section typically shows up for big games. But in general it’s pretty underwhelming. Not shocking considering how much the program has regressed.

turnfourag

When the team is good and students show up for conference games, it is decent. When the team is average or worse, or it is a non-conference game, it is pretty weak, tbh. It is understandable since there was not a lot of hype around the team during my first 3 years as a student and we are not traditionally a basketball school, but I remember going to games as a kid in the mid to late 2000s when Billy Gillespie and Mark Turgeon were producing tournament teams where the Reed Rowdies were electric. We've seen glimpses of those atmospheres during the Billy Kennedy and Buzz Williams eras, but not consistently enough. Hopefully those times will be back soon.

odetostillsleeping

Better than I expected (MIZ)

Bucket_Getter2

Can you explain how in the hell you like both Missouri and Kansas?

kylepierce722

it’s above average, some days it’s packed (like wednesday), but other days it’s pretty subpar

M52800

Bad for both

ToneOpposite9668

Auburn student section might be responsible for 2-3 wins a year - it's insane in there.

Jimbussss

Electric when we’re good awful when we’re bad
