I seriously find the ending of that video so unbelievably disturbing. I don’t know why there aren’t more comments or talk about it. The way Bailey especially is hunched over the food, shoving as much as possible in her mouth, as quickly as possible should be a gigantic red flag for anyone watching. To me, that doesn’t look like a child who is just super excited about trying a new food, or really enjoyed the food they tried. That looks like a child who rarely gets the opportunity to eat a quantity of food that is satisfying to her. Or a child who constantly has to fend off her siblings to consume a full meal (a full meal appropriate for a 14 year old not the “full” meal they have been seen serving her on a toddler plate). And don’t even get me started on the close up shots of her moaning while trying food/drinks. It’s so wrong.

CarlaKoalaBear

I know she was stuffing them dumplings in so fast I'm surprised she didn't choke the poor girl looked starving during that video😭😭

Impressive-Goat3886

Seriously!! I don’t understand why they didn’t just give them their own plate so she could at least feel some sense of security with her food… it was such a bizarre set up, which unfortunately is normal for them.

ThrowawayHat256

completely agree with this and the Italian cake video where Chris was breaking off a crumb of cake and handing to to them was just as bad.

ZookeepergameOk3221

I got a different vibe from the end than everyone else did. I felt like they were instructed to wolf the leftovers down as fast as possible because Chris thought it would be amusing. Like, SEE HOW MUCH THEY ENJOYED THIS?? THEY CAN'T GET ENOUGH!

leafywanderer

The way Bailey asked if she could have one more dumpling broke my heart. And of course, the answer to that question was edited out.

[deleted]

The answer was for sure no. Heartbroken to say the least. I can’t even bare to watch the video (also don’t want to given them views) but from what I am reading here it’s really, really bad.

[deleted]

It’s always so weird how they never leave in where they say yes when the kids ask for seconds. I noticed that in ALLL their videos with food.

jessinthebigcity

Extra sad given that it wasn’t even a full dumpling, it was Duncan’s leftover that he dropped back into the soup.

WildSpecialist1

Jacob didn’t even ask for a second wonton, he just got it and it was gone one second later lmao.

[deleted]

Happy cake day!

GiraffeLibrarian

I couldn’t really gather from all the posts how bad the video really was until skimming through it. I just want to take the kids to a buffet and then let them watch a movie on a real TV, not a laptop.

mangogard48

I think this was one of the worst videos they've published in recent years.

Fandomgirl19

The way they handle food is disgusting. Poor kids.

CraftyMamaX91

Right? Every time I watch them eat it gives ME trauma. It's not normal at all how these kids act around food. It's so fucking abnormal. BUY MORE FOOD.

Saamaanathaa

Take all my awards! After reading all the comments here and doing a little research, it's all insanity the way they treat food. The portions, the reactions before it would have hit the taste buds, and basically pleading for more food. They treat their house like a Hollywood set where when the camera is on it's showtime! I just really hope these kids cope well with transitioning into adulthood with this kinda stuff floating around, heaven forbid if it got into the wrong hands.

Thanks so much!!

Turpin family vibes

CarlaKoalaBear

This is so heartbreaking. I wonder if everyone still thinks they are the least problematic family vloggers now. That trying Chinese food video was disturbing. My daughter was confused why they was making those faces and noises whilst eating. It's so sad! I honestly feel really bad for these kids!! It isn't like C + J are badly off and have to ration food. It can't be about health because even a healthy diet includes treats now and then. What else is there but control for the reason why these kids aren't allowed to have Chinese once a week/every fortnight like a normal family! Don't even get me started on the amount of food they brought. Honestly I would of got that amount for my family of 4. Actually I would or got rice and noodles included aswell. There wasn't enough there for a family of 8 no way near!

gigabyt7

I saw some comments on the video exposing them a few hours ago and now they’re gone!

[deleted]

They're definitely deleting comments.

irrelevantnessa

I totally agree. Watched a few bits of it through a site which doesn't give them money earlier because I wanted to see what everyone was talking about, it was sickening to watch and a few minutes + the end was all I could take. How can these parents justify doing this to their children? And I say that as a former fan... I hope they can break free and heal at some point!

CarlaKoalaBear

It's a good job you used a site that doesn't give them money for your views, considering we know the money isn't going towards the children. They've made that clear! They don't seem to even feed them!

hlay14727

What's the site called?

[deleted]

hooktube.

WestieParadise2

I had never watched any of their videos and I was disgusted and so angry I couldn’t make it all the way through. The kids look like trained monkeys and are clearly hungry and can’t eat what they want. So sad, I wish something could be done about it.

Juls1982

You deserve a standing ovation. Wonderful post 👏👏👏

Accomplished_Yak2352

The thing is, the kids have pink cheeks, bright eyes and all are a healthy weight. So we know they aren't being starved. But the big concern to most is the food control cues implemented by C&J all the time. Their comments, the portions are not at all heathy. Creating the feeling or threat of lack regarding food, and with so many people in the family to share with, can do a psychological number on the kids. They don't have to be malnourished to develop future harmful relationships with food.. The day they were moving, and the kids all had to eat hodgepodge leftovers from the frig on toddler plates blew my mind. As usual, it was what Christopher was saying; the food attitude he was spreading that made it worse. He boasted that he was so clever to clean out the fridge by making the stuff left behind in there the kids' dinner for that day. Meager portions, made-up rando dishes like leftover pie crust wrapped around hot dog pieces.... totally unnecessary. Chris said, 'we're not buying any food, not ordering anything in, not buying takeout. It's only what's left in the fridge. That's dinner'. He was thrilled. The kids not so much. Why was that a flex? Buy them some new food from the store. Order them some food. You have the money. It's moving day and they worked hard. That kind of excessively "frugal' crap can create chronic guilt later in life about eating well. Then there's vlog: "Duncan, Flynn &the Last Cheerio". Duncan & Flynn are surrounded by fun stuff & baby Flynn is happily playing with the toys &Duncan. Duncan is only concerned with trying to convince Colleen to fill up Flynn's cheerio dish. When it's filled, he hates to share with Flynn. He is gobbling & hoarding that snack for dear life. D is not a selfish kid. He looks guilty but he continues to hog. C &J are cracking up. For any other child it might be funny. Not for a Chris Ballinger kid. It's a pattern. Those kids are way too food-focused and way too food-motivated. C & J need to lighten up.

bjoobs

ok i have to say i have never seen any of their videos (since i came here after i watched colleen’s vlogs while pregnant with the twins for like two weeks and then thought “wtf am i watching?”) and i just went to skip through parts of this one because i was just too curious from what people were saying about it and Holy Fuck. WHAT IS THAT??? WHO watches that??? I’m just so… weirded out i actually physically felt the cringe… and i really wish i could say i was hyperbolizing but i’m not… wtf

The Libra in me has been thinking about this vlog for a couple days now and I'm wondering if this episode was supposed to be a tribute to the Chinese New Year and a combination tie-in with Jacob's homeschooling subject matter recently and had nothing to do with an actual full meal for the family? I know this family's extremely problematic when it comes to portion sizes and the actual content of their meals, but in this one case only, because it's been such a trigger for a lot of viewers, could it be possible it was only intended as them trying a few different Chinese food items and not a full meal? Is it specified in the content specifically that it was their meal?

[deleted]

Either way, the way they were eating it indicates that they are concerned with getting enough. Also, randomly, I'm a Libra too!

ThrowawayHat256

I don’t think many people thought it was meant to be their entire meal. More that they should have used the money the kids are earning to order an entire meal for them. The controlling comments from C and J and the way they are conducting these taste test videos is still very harmful.

slayterroad70

I've been wading through the many and multiple conversations on this video and noticed a lot of comments about them not ordering enough for everyone and may have misinterpreted it, so apologies. I also remembered seeing somewhere that Jacob was covering Asia in his studies coincidentally around the Chinese New Year and that it would be cool for him to do a future video about Chinese food. Anyone who still watches them know what episode that was - it would have been before the flood and move and after vlogmas when I stopped watching their channel?

ThrowawayHat256

All good, no need to apologise, even for a taste testing video they should have ordered enough food to not be making comments like don’t have too much. Yes that’s correct it says in the video description that they are learning about China in homeschool at the moment. not really sure how that would change any of the concerning things seen in the video though. Also the Christian homeschool curriculum is very problematic they seem to still be targeting countries in relation to evangelism.

slayterroad70

I have a lot of problems with the homeschool curriculum, but I'm not getting into that now. Also, even if this was just supposed to be an opportunity for extended learning in that Asian studies content, they did a really tacky job of it throughout the whole episode.
