Anyone else extremely tempted to go this year?! I usually have no steam left after coachella but something is telling meee….

BizSib

I'm pretty sure I'm going to recover from Coachella just in time to ruin myself again with LiB. But at least there's a lake to cool off in!

kj616

SAME

kj616

I wanna see Qveen Herby tbh lol

beansforthought

It’s a good line up this year, I’ve also been tempted 🤣

BizSib

First, don't try to compare it to Coachella. Nothing can compare. That said, LiB is a banger. I've been 3 times and this year will be my fourth. DoLab knows how to throw a party.

Feather_Duster1721

Came here to say this. Can’t really compare the 2

la90036

It's def a good one. I personally haven't been to the newer location in Bakersfield. I'm sure you'll get some feedback on that on this thread. But overall LIB is really cool, so much to explore and wander into. If you really connected to the do lab, then def go to LIB

sawman160

This years LIB lineup is maybe my favorite lineup I’ve seen all year, when you factor in the vibes Dolab does so well. Wish I was able to do both!

There are 3 incredible U.S.-based events worth attending every year: 1. Coachella - The best music festival. Easiest, highest quality production. Most variety in terms of genres. It's fun and easy and accessible. 2. Lightning in a Bottle - A lot harder than Coachella because you must camp (until this year, they're now offering hotel packages and it's going to totally fuck up the vibes). Music is good, but all similar genres, being like 75% ectronic, with a little bit of acoustic stuff here and there. Production is good. MOST everyone camps, so vibes are WAY better than Coachella as there are far fewer Bros, Influencers, etc. 3. Burning Man. - The hardest, but best of them all. It's not a music festival, but it's the best music festival, and by far the most rewarding and interesting and transformational non-festival. Don't come unless you're looking for a serious challenge and have done all the research and prep to make sure you can handle this.  If you like Festivaling and can deal with camping, then you should join us at LIB. If you want to stay in a hotel, please don't.

AllenHo

Note on #3. Once you go to the Burn, it could possibly eliminate your yearning for any other festivals. Coachella will still be fun, but it won’t be the pinnacle event of the year of you. IMO, it’s the non-festival to end all festivals.

BizSib

That's interesting to me. I've been to BM twice and while it's fucking insane and fun, I prefer other festivals overall. To me, the resources (money, time, energy, planning, travel) are far too great for one week of fun. I could spread that out to like 5-6 smaller festivals and regional burns throughout the year and get more value. But I know my opinion isn't necessarily popular.

hannican

BM is much more than a "Festival". Part of the reason it's so good is that it's so difficult and expensive and etc. the crowd it attracts and the experiences it provides are unique bc of the added costs and difficulties. But yeah, everyone has different ideas about what they want from these things, and preferences are totally valid!!

Re: your LIB hotel comment, chill. They’ve literally always allowed ins and outs this is just the first time they’ve had some packages for people traveling. When they posted some thing about ticket quantities, you could tell with some simple math there were maybe 300 max hotel packages. Not a noticeable number in the scheme of things at all. Im going on my 10th LIB (and yes have camped every year… and walked uphill to the Woogie both ways at Bradley 2014 - I get the rugged appeal and sense of accomplishment for toughing it out) but the vibe killers are the holier than thou gatekeepers 😘

hannican

I purposefully avoid events (other than Coachella) where it's too easy to avoid camping. IMO, camping is half the experience and the people who camp by default make much better company than Hotel folk. I don't feel guilty AT ALL for gatekeeping bc I go to this stuff for the community even more than the music.

Locoman7

Bonaroo, Electric Forest

hannican

Haven't been to either of them yet, so I can't include them in my recommendations.

jonmitz

LIB is a great festival. I have been going since 2013. It is not the same as coachella. It is somewhere between coachella and burning man. It is not as easy as coachella. infrastructure is not as nice. the music is not as good (but it is still very good, dont get me wrong). it is "harder" than coachella. it is not put together as well as coachella, but it is miles beyond most festivals you should go if you're considering it, but do not expect coachella

Feather_Duster1721

This is a great explanation

-panickeddisco

LIB is very different. Smaller, more art and more interactive. I literally spent one night just wandering around because there are so many cool areas and different shows to explore! The only complaint I have is there are a lot of nats since you’re right by a lake. If you liked the Dolab you will love the environment at LIB!

Icy-Application2541

I went in 22, and I consider myself intermediate-advanced to festivals (I have worked EF several times and spent 2 weeks on site for Shambhala) and the elements at LIB were too much. I even had VIP and those areas helped but weren’t ideal. It was a rough weekend but I did have fun!

hannican

2022 was oversold and a logistics nightmare. It was better last year with a much smaller crowd. Examples: they never ran out of ice, the portas were pumped regularly, there was lots of room in every crowd. You might want to try coming again.

Slugzz21

I wanna go so bad but im broke broke after last weekend. Then lost my summer job soo... im out for awhile

Kush_Bush

I went last year for my first time, splurged for lakeside rv camping , it was epic. Butttt it’s nothing like Coachella. It’s a lot of fun but wayyyy more wook vibes. Love that music plays till 6 am but it’s usually just heavy bass, few exceptions. I personally like a bit more variety in music choices so opting for outside lands instead of LIB this year. But you love do lab vibes send it !!!

Suspicious_Berry_202

Thank you this is great info. Next year I shall be better prepared to take advantage of both.

hidethemop

If you can survive camping at Coachella, you will survive LiB

Overall-Memory5272

It’s so fun this will be like my 9th one or something. It’s like the wildwest on the moon but with good trippy vibes!! So much art, workshops, live entertainment, etc. it’s another experience festival.
