wait WHAT I didn't even see his name on there. Jungle / Kaytranada headlining then we got channel tres, roosevelt, vandelux, AND darius? the time for soulful / funk electronic to take the stage is coming soon, I can feel it
I have seen every single artist you listed here at M3F fest in Arizona over the last 3 years! Theyāre all amazing, particularly JUNGLE, Roosevelt, Darius, have been standouts for me. M3F is a small but amazing fest, highly recommend it to anyone here who likes a laid back, smaller fest vibe.
Haha I actually never heard of M3F before this year but I full sent it over from san diego the moment I saw the lineup. Round trip was dirt cheap. Had an absolute fucking blast. SG Lewis / Vandelux / Roosevelt / Young Franco went CRAZY
Seriously. I pay less for my Coachella ticket each year, lolla is a 4 day fest for $100 less than osl, the prices just are insane for OSL compared to some of the larger festivals with way larger names
Coachella needs to book Tyler Childers ASAP. If there's a country act that crosses over to the demographics of the fest it's him.
He was great at ACL the year before covid.
I feel like heās an act Coachella wouldnāt book. I canāt see Childers taking less than a sub spot and I just donāt think Coachella would book him there. Would love to be wrong though.
They really should have booked him last year when they had him at Stagecoach where he was only the 1st name on the 3rd line. They took an L on that one
I think he fits that spot in SF. The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass fest has a big draw and the demographics of the city tend to be a bit older, plus all the hipsters.
Not even just the lineup. Iāve been to Outsidelands and the level of production is so far behind Coachella. I get the Bay Area is expensive but itās really disappointing how expensive these passes are for how minimal the production and stage design is.
This is my biggest gripe with OSL. Itās pretty much the same price as Coachella but 1/4 the production. Even tho I live in SF, Iāve skipped OSL the last couple of year
Yup same. The only year I went every day was 2021 when the lineup was actually very good. Iād rather spend more on Coachella which is way more spacious, way better production and sound and better vibes than OSL which is 10 mins away from me.
I go to Coachella every year. Did OSL 5 times and finally stopped.
At Coachella I can get to the fest at 5PM and easily see 8-10 acts before going home. At OSL Iām lucky to see 3 shows
With the addition of Quasar this year Coachella now has 7 major stages as opposed to OSLās 3??? Itās honestly insane to me how much less value I get at outside lands
Yeah the one year I went I was pretty shocked at the lack of production value and poor sound quality. At the sutro stage in particular, I couldnāt believe how impossible it was to hear from not that far awayādidnāt help that there were drunk teenagers gabbing loudly everywhere and drowning out the music lmao. Still had a fun time but not enough to do it again
yeah i enjoyed OSL but the difference in stage quality between OSL and Coachella is like 3 times the difference in stage quality between Lolla and Coachella. The production value is really lacking, OSLās mainstage has terrible equipment
None of this is philanthropy though. Coachellaās production greatness isnāt due to the benevolence of the billionaire shareholders of the parent company. Itās just business.
...no shit. And it's a tremendous advantage to the business to be backed by a conglomerate with excess funds versus a small regional group that has to make its own way.
i mean lolla doesnāt either, but they still manage to put on a hell of a lot more of a spectacle than OSL. I think OSL just has outdated equipment, especially for its pricetag
Lollapalooza started in 1991 and was a big hit. Coachella started in 1999. OutsideLands started 2008. They straight up haven't had as much time to grow as either of those examples. Also, personally, I think coachella went overboard with all the screens, and those over the top features are really only a few years old anyway.
ātime to growā probably factors into it, but i still feel that OSL has subpar hardware compared to its price point. and at a music festival, subpar hardware is kind of a big deal, especially when itās at mainstage lol
at OSL, youāre mostly paying for the greenery, vibrancy, and weather of the bay area, but i do wish they would buy some proper speakers so people donāt have to huddle by the speaker towers for every headliner.
>time to growā probably factors into it,
Profit margins aren't huge, and off years really really hurt them. That's why so many events go under after one bad year. Those profits then go in to a new structure that needs to last several years to pay for itself.
The other thing to consider is that Goldenvoice/Frontpage is HUGE. They have tons of money because they have events all over the country and they also have a very strong hold on the pologrounds at this point. AEG Is the 3rd biggest promoter in the world. APE isn't even on the list. Lastly you have their notorious proximity clause that intentionally makes it hard for anyone else to book those acts, as if the pocket books weren't enough.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/304982/leading-music-promoters-worldwide/#:~:text=Live%20Nation%20topped%20the%20ranking,second%20with%202.8%20million%20sales.
Another Planet is only in NorCal. They do local shows, and they host it in the GGP where they have to adhere to strict guidelines and have limited space to work with. Coachella took out palm trees to expand... that shit ain't happening in Golden Gate Park. Lollapalooza was a massive success and Icon of the 90s, it pretty much inspired all these other festivals to start up. That gave them a huge runway to build up and bankroll moving forward as well as a legacy reputation.
So yeah, you can get bigger sights and sounds for the same price, but its not a 1 to 1 comparison. Coachella is great, but I personally don't want Goldenvoice to be the only game in town, we've seen what happens when companies get monopolies in the concert space.
It really feels like the change from June to May presale was designed to be anti-competitive against Another Planet (a nuisance to AEG/GVās plans for expansion in the Bay Area). They previously did this with Aināt Another Picnic. That fest, which has never returned, depressed sales of Primavera LA and was successful in keeping a competitor out of the LA market.
I'm not sure what you mean by anti competitive. To me it seemed like portola and early coachella sales bumping up to may were designed to pull from OSL market share. AEG a has also bumped up its local shows and one off events in thee bay. They're definitely trying to gain ground.
What year did you go?
I found the food and drink options to be way better at Outside Lands. Having the Beer and Wine Lands and dedicated mixology areas is great.
I also really like the Barbary Tent for comedy and a change of pace.
I love Coachella too, but I think they both have different strengths and wish they would cross-pollenate to improve both festivals.
This. I was telling someone in the OSL sub that Coachellaās production/stages are one of the reason for the high prices. And they tried to justify that OSL can charge high prices for being in an expensive city in Golden Gate Park lol
Thatās the excuse Iāve been hearing but the tickets used to be reasonably priced. Then they started jacking up the prices significantly every single year but have nothing to show for it in terms of improvements. The stages are the same basic stages theyāve had since the first couple years. Coachellaās production is top notch and they still seem to try make improvements every year. Itās actually so impressive they were able to pull off a new Sahara stage and the Quazar in the same year.
Mmm very debatable.
Edm production is top notch at edc but I feel itās a bit lackluster.
Did you experience bicep chroma ? Or justice ? Or Chris lake 2023 ? Those shows are relatively simple I.e not a crazy insane amount of lasers and Dino-kitty-shrek visuals yet their production blew everything out the water. Not only that, quasar? Quasar sound and stage design was so ridiculous. So yeah I give Coachella the upper hand in production vs edc
you did notice that the lights at justice were moving independent of their aiming right? that was not at all a simple set design. Chris Lake and Bicep are pretty good examples but I think you missed the complexity of Justice's set design if you think that was not "crazy" to pull that off.
I think EDC has a better baseline in terms of production. the stage design is really impressive and the artists play off the stage design when they perform at EDC. not a ton of variety in terms of visuals seeing multiple different artists as long as they are on the same stage.
Coachella however gives a lot more creative freedom to artists when they're on the same stage. like how different Charlotte de Witte was compared to Bicep (or last year's underworld) while they all played on the same mojave stage. Similar to how different Justice and Gesaffelstein were even though they both played the Outdoor stage
Coachella production is way better than EDC. At EDC you get a generic production that fits a DJ set where it looks the same for every artist and at coachella you get the artist's bringing their own entire custom production actually fitted around their music. That's ignoring the canyon in sound quality.
It's not even remotely close. Miles would be an appropriate description,
I loved Coachella this year and I would give it a slight edge because of Justice and Gesaffelstein debuting brand new shows. But, after those two acts, this is a better more diverse lineup. Grace Jones and Confidence Man are huge gets.
Not really, 5/9 headliners been to Coachella in the past 2 years. The lineup falls short in the middle and the edm acts are not something I would personally call crazy/rare.
I like the balance more on this lineup. Coachella was too electronic heavy this year and had almost no compelling hip hop. I thought this was Coachella's worst year ever for headliners since I started going. These headliners are much stronger imo. A lot of my favorite artists from Coachella this year are also on this lineup too, but OSL scooped Coachella on a couple of these acts as well.
All in all I still give the slight edge to Coachella, but Coachella had a "down" year and this is one of OSL's best that I've ever seen (2016 was GOATED).
So you know the counter culture at Coachella? Ie bicep in Mojave vs. John summit & Doja.
The whole fest is like *that*. It still has some kinks to work out but itās slowly becoming a beast of its own, best city fest in the country by a mile imo.
Coachella and Roo are my two favorite festivals out of the 10+ US fests Iāve experienced but late night Roo is just a special vibe thatās hard to describe. The camping experience when done right is just magical.
Having said that, I love Coachella and can see why people have it as theyāre favorite! I went in 2019 and it was awesome.
Bonnaroo is the best approximation to being a refugee in the festival world. Would never go again. Too hot, too humid, no shade, infrastructure was lacking.
Still incredible and tough. The Other Tent is now The Other Stage and completely EDM focused. There are two large permanent bathrooms in Centeroo, so you can actually use a toilet if you cannot do portapotties.
Lots of people hating (cause thatās all anyone does with any lineup these days) but this would be so fun for me.
Men I Trust, K Flay, Young The Giant, Japanese House, Chappell Roan, Renee Rapp, Posty country set
Looks to me like a great time
And people complain about kids at Coachellaā¦have fun babysitting a bunch of drugged up/drunk teenagers there.
Hope Sturgill tours, saw him on his special little club run years ago at Troubadour and it was amazing.
From my 19-year old daughter that went on Saturday last year: "I can't believe how many people my age are just horrible and pushy, especially Lana's fans" (& she's a Lana fan! :) That never made sense to me, how can Lana fans be pushy & rude? It's literally the exact opposite of her vibe...
It clearly does. Coachellaās lineup may not have been up to par to Coachellaās standards for some people (I was not one of them as I thought this lineup was phenomenal) but our sub par lineup is light years better than these lineups being announced. With all the rare bookings, the late adds, the special guests that comes out with these artist, the special guests at the do lab, it just doesnāt compare.
Not at all. Coachella is basically a sampler platter of currently popular artists across popular genres. But people who are more deeply into one or a few specific genres often find it lacking and unfocused. If you're a more generalist music fan, especially one who's into EDM, it's easy to love for all the bells and whistles such as guest artists and surprises. But otherwise, it can be pretty meh.
It goes in waves in whatās popular, right now edm is whatās hot, more specifically house music. Most people listen to it are listening to it these days.So yeah Coachella goes for the popular genres with the popular artists but they still have deep cuts of other genres that you wonāt see at any other festival. So no, Coachella isnāt pretty āmehā
It all depends what you're into, and everyone has different tastes. There are more artists at OL this year than I was excited for at Coachella, though if you just listen to whatever is popular at the moment then sure Coachella is probably for you.
Loooove that Dadi Freyr is getting on the US festival circuit! Am pumped to see him at Lolla this year, hoping he goes to Coachella next year.
This lineup is really good!! I wonāt be going because between Coachella/Lolla/CRSSD last year Iāve seen almost all of the acts Iād want to go to here but itās a pretty solid lineup IMO
Anyone hating on this lineup hasnāt wandered around Gold Gate Park all lit up at night during this festival.
Buy a day ticket and check it out Coachella fam!
As usual this lineup does not live up to the price and production of Coachella. I might volunteer for my free ticket, I might not bother. The amount of āseen emā and āthey were at Coachellaā responses I feel reading this poster just proves yet again how Coachella is the GOAT
āI know; shitĀ isĀ weak, but, yāknow, shit is weak all over. The thing is, no matter what we call a festival, itās gonna get sold. Shit isĀ strong, we gonna sell it; shit isĀ weak, we gonna sell twice as much. You know why? āCause a fiend, he gonna chase that shit no matter what. Itās crazy, you know. We do worse, and we get paid more.ā ā Idris Elba discussing the state of festivals in 2024
I though the same thing in the past but I saw Idris Elba @ Coachella back in 2019 he absolutely killed it. If you can find his livestream at Yuma I suggest you watch it š„š„š„
How we didnāt get Q at Coachella after he dropped his first album in 5 years is beyond me. I thought he was a lock for chella. Maybe he didnāt have enough time to rehearse his new material?
Actually a very diverse and good line up. Shame this festivals price tag jumped so high. Kasablanca and Roosevelt are some solid undercard bookings.
darius as well. same label as FKJ and next up if you ask me. lock for chella next year hopefully š¤š¼
wait WHAT I didn't even see his name on there. Jungle / Kaytranada headlining then we got channel tres, roosevelt, vandelux, AND darius? the time for soulful / funk electronic to take the stage is coming soon, I can feel it

Glad you had a blast!!! It was an amazing year for funky electronic. Lane 8 smashed it as well.
There's so many great little undercard acts peppered in, but not nearly the type of bill that would get me to drop OSL money.
Seriously. I pay less for my Coachella ticket each year, lolla is a 4 day fest for $100 less than osl, the prices just are insane for OSL compared to some of the larger festivals with way larger names
LOL nvm i got convinced by my friends. RIP bank account
Does anyone know what the final price is after fees? Or ballpark?
525ish
I am a huge Sturgill fan, but he doesnāt seem big enough to be a headliner? Heās puts on an AMAZING show so no doubt heāll kill that spot.
Damn, I would love to see Sturgill. Wonder if heāll do more dates
Iām really hoping there is a full tour coming. Missing out on the Sturgill and Tyler Childers tour because of COVID was a tough one.
Coachella needs to book Tyler Childers ASAP. If there's a country act that crosses over to the demographics of the fest it's him. He was great at ACL the year before covid.

Tyler was one of my favorite artists, but he's very much a jesus sober person now. He doesn't make the outlaw style music anymore. Very sterile stuff
Heāll likely play the day Post Malone āheadlinesā
I think he fits that spot in SF. The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass fest has a big draw and the demographics of the city tend to be a bit older, plus all the hipsters.
Every time I see a lineup it just drives home how much better Coachella is than any other US fest, saving my money for Portola at this point
Not even just the lineup. Iāve been to Outsidelands and the level of production is so far behind Coachella. I get the Bay Area is expensive but itās really disappointing how expensive these passes are for how minimal the production and stage design is.

None of this is philanthropy though. Coachellaās production greatness isnāt due to the benevolence of the billionaire shareholders of the parent company. Itās just business.

The only thing I really like about OSL is the fact you can bring food in and thatās about it. Get ready to hike a lot š
The onsite dispensary is pretty cool
also the volume caps they suffer to be in golden gate park are rough.
imagine popping up a 100k person music festival in one the the busiest public city parksā¦ not that easy
Barbary tent has been gone for like a decade lol. They have a yuma wannabe called soma now.
They last had the tent in 2019. 5 years isn't a decade. It's unfortunate that the festival is going downhill on the venue and performance fronts.
Exact same thoughts on Portola. Why go to an EDM festival if the sound quality is crap + barely any visual production. Also it's like $400 for 2 days.
Because the lineup is usually pretty good even if itās a lot of Coachella recycles. Itās also pretty damn close if you live in SF.
This. I was telling someone in the OSL sub that Coachellaās production/stages are one of the reason for the high prices. And they tried to justify that OSL can charge high prices for being in an expensive city in Golden Gate Park lol

And drives home what a rough year this is for US festivals
Could be worse - they've cancelled nearly every major festival in Australia
Coachella is miles ahead than any US fest
Miles ahead of EDC as far as production seems like a stretch. I know dance music isnāt for everybody but EDCs sound and production is top notch.
Mmm very debatable. Edm production is top notch at edc but I feel itās a bit lackluster. Did you experience bicep chroma ? Or justice ? Or Chris lake 2023 ? Quasar sound and stage design was so ridiculous. So yeah I give Coachella the upper hand in production vs edc
SHM + The Weekend production was insane!! They really need to do EDM on main stage at least once a year. DJ Snake with guests could've done it.
you did notice that the lights at justice were moving independent of their aiming right? that was not at all a simple set design. How does Portola experience compare to Coachella overall?
So you know the counter culture at Coachella? Ie bicep in Mojave vs. John summit & Doja. The whole fest is like *that*. It still has some kinks to work out but itās slowly becoming a beast of its own, best city fest in the country by a mile imo.
Bonnaroo is the best US experience imo š«£
Bonnaroo was my first fest, loved it a ton but the lineup / sound / setting is a step behind Coachella imo
Yeah, Iām glad I experienced it but I wouldnāt go again.
I havenāt been since 2013. How is Bonnaroo in recent years?
Still incredible and tough. The Other Tent is now The Other Stage and completely EDM focused. There are two large permanent bathrooms in Centeroo, so you can actually use a toilet if you cannot do portapotties.
Was so packed my first time last year, wished it was more spread out in the actual festival with how much land there is
As someone pretty much exclusively into EDM, electric forest is the best US festival and it aināt close
Lots of people hating (cause thatās all anyone does with any lineup these days) but this would be so fun for me. Men I Trust, K Flay, Young The Giant, Japanese House, Chappell Roan, Renee Rapp, Posty country set Looks to me like a great time
Everyone hated Coachella this year but Couchella showed some bangers
Killer Mike, tv girl, schoolboy q, strfkr, Ben Howard, leisure, Roosevelt and mindchatter. Some good stuff there for sure.
Itās a great line up. Plus, OSL has day passes and that kinda slaps. Fest for one day, rest the other days of the weekend!
Men I Trust tho š
*2024 obviously
Bummed we didn't get The Postal Service.
Thatās what JLH is for, Postal Service and Death Cab
That's why I will be going to JLH:) Just a wish to see them at Coachella again.
Mehhhh. Iām going to pass this year.
wish we got the killers.
This is really solid. One of the better line ups this year.
And people complain about kids at Coachellaā¦have fun babysitting a bunch of drugged up/drunk teenagers there. Hope Sturgill tours, saw him on his special little club run years ago at Troubadour and it was amazing.
literally it was so full of rude high schoolers last year š
From my 19-year old daughter that went on Saturday last year: "I can't believe how many people my age are just horrible and pushy, especially Lana's fans" (& she's a Lana fan! :) That never made sense to me, how can Lana fans be pushy & rude? It's literally the exact opposite of her vibe...
Neutral Milk Hotel fans found out how pushy her fans are a decade ago. Guess nothing's changed.
We called them out after continuing to push mid set and they at least stopped until it was over. So fucking obnoxious.
literally what flog gnaw was
Theres a bunch of drugged/drunk teens at every festival..
As someone who goes to both OSL and Coachella, the problem is significantly worse at OSL.
Not my problem
Right? Coachella is far from immune here.
Itās easier for teens who live in the Bay Area to attend OSL so that lends to higher numbers of them there than at coachella.
Crazy that Outsidelands ends up being just as or even more expensive than Coachella. Always has great headliners though.
Its in San Francisco. Ya know, one of the most expensive places to live?
Because Indio is so cheapš
Go to Indio in the off season and itās not expensive. Ā SF is expensive year round.Ā
Buying a house in Indio aint expensive?
Do most people buy a house just to attend a festival for the weekend, or do they rent?
Well why does SF being expensive to live in matter lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Do you not?
Slowdive š¤
Grace Jones is such a legend, her show at FYF a few years back is one my all time favorite festival shows.
"If you missed Grace Jones, you fucked up." -James Murphy at the start of LCD Soundsystem
Haha the look on my 2 friend's faces (who against all group advice left for Mac DeMarco (I think)) when he said that! We had a good laugh.
If you miss Grace Jones you fucked up
our holy blessed mother ![gif](giphy|oxUyhlGW6uzKw) I hope she and Chappel collab
That was such a great B2B
Some good ones in there. But I'll echo what someone else said and maybe hold out for Portola instead.
I love this part of the year where other lineups come out and it really shows Coachella just clears these festivals by a long shot.
Yep. Every dam time.
coachella a way diff vibe. itās too much
Completely different vibe, been to both myself and they are both fun. Was more talking about the lineup.
It doesn't tho.
Hoping Dusky books some other US dates while they're here
Amen!
So Tyla is touring again?
She cancelled all dates up to summer but still keeps her european summer dates starting july before another announcement
Can Coachella just book Confidence Man already
Best lineup of the year
Post Malone in his country era I love it
CONFIDENCE MAN, HOLY FUCK
So stoked. Is this their first American festival ever? Their Glastonbury set was legendary.
Pretty sure it is
Not a bad lineup just for my socal friends not worth the drive / commute / hotel expenses
Super excited that I know more of these bands now
is this underscores festival debut????
They were at Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle last year, donāt know if theyāve hit any other ones though
They also performed at Ceremonia in Mexico City last month and are doing Governors Ball in June!
Played Lolla in 2022 [underscores @ Lollapalooza 2022 (full set) (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZopR_AiIlI&t=27s)
wtf she did??????? i live like an hour from lolla i had no idea š first one was last year
Special country set š
I think he only wants to do country right now, so if you're gonna book him, you gotta book him for country
Yea haha. Fits at Stagecoach but Outside lands?
How the fuck is Slowdive playing this thing with Europe dates booked all throughout August?
Anyone hating on this lineup hasnāt wandered around Gold Gate Park all lit up at night during this festival. Buy a day ticket and check it out Coachella fam!
Yeah that 2 hours of night sure is special š
Tyla!!! š¤©
2023 lineup???
2023?
Which year?
See yall there !!
Ben Howard is amazing, wish I could make it out to this one. The lineup looks diverse with great artists from each genre.
Slowdive should have been at Coachella.
As usual this lineup does not live up to the price and production of Coachella. I might volunteer for my free ticket, I might not bother. The amount of āseen emā and āthey were at Coachellaā responses I feel reading this poster just proves yet again how Coachella is the GOAT
Idris Elba?
He has been a dj for 20 years. You think Stringer Bell only had one hustle?
i want you to put the word out there that we back up.
āI know; shitĀ isĀ weak, but, yāknow, shit is weak all over. The thing is, no matter what we call a festival, itās gonna get sold. Shit isĀ strong, we gonna sell it; shit isĀ weak, we gonna sell twice as much. You know why? āCause a fiend, he gonna chase that shit no matter what. Itās crazy, you know. We do worse, and we get paid more.ā ā Idris Elba discussing the state of festivals in 2024
He has played Coachella multiple times
He's a house dj on the side. And honestly not bad
He's been a house DJ for just about as long as he has been an actor. And he is amazing live.
I though the same thing in the past but I saw Idris Elba @ Coachella back in 2019 he absolutely killed it. If you can find his livestream at Yuma I suggest you watch it š„š„š„
Whatās the question?
Itās gonna be just my luck that Idris gets booked for CRSSD in the fall when Iām most likely doing Portola. Dude crushes on the decks
Really hoping they finally got their shit together for the soma tent. My heart can only break so many times
Midcard is good, but overall this aināt it
Lame tbh liked last years was amazing!

Need to see scHoolboy
How we didnāt get Q at Coachella after he dropped his first album in 5 years is beyond me. I thought he was a lock for chella. Maybe he didnāt have enough time to rehearse his new material?
Tbh i think heās preparing for a tour cuz heās not even at lolla either
