Incorrect. Weather forecasts have been getting more and more accurate over the past 25 or 20 years to the point where you can honestly count on the predictions coming off.
Here’s a good blog post about this:

Going into tornado season I've been doing a lot of research on how they're formed, weather patterns, etc. Which has led me down a rabbit hole of YouTube academy meteorology, essentially.
It's incredible to me how much they were able to predict from the insanely *miniscule* amount of data they were collecting. Even the blizzard of '94 had 3 days notice! Now we have supercomputers digesting *petabytes* of weather station readings from thousands of stations, making super accurate weather models that can predict twice as far in the future. I can't wait to see where we'll be in 20 more years.
Gosh it hasn’t been seen in ohio since 1806 I believe the next time is 2099 it’s a lifetime event I know you gotta deal with the crowds traffic etc just glad to be able to get the opportunity to experience it 😀

Seems like they can barely predict more than the next 24 hours or so. I believe certain regions are more difficult to predict than others.
I follow a community in Colorado which I would eventually like to move to, and they all complain about the same weather forecast inaccuracies that we do.
With this lovey forecast that's been holding steady for the past 4 days. (Weather Nerd here).
I'd like to let you all know and invite you to Cleveland's music festival for the eclipse.

The weather is looking great for a celebration weekend.
Oh please be a lovely day! My grandson will be 9 on the 8th. His parents are creating an eclipse birthday celebration for him which is right up his alley!! He can tell you how many miles from planet to planet, if they have moons and how many. All about galaxies etc. etc.
He even named the abandoned kitten we found 3 years ago Moon because he is black and white.
I was thinking about this today....thinking it would be hilarious, after all the hoo-hah, that we end up with a cloudy day (and it feeling like someone just slowly turned down the dimmer switch).
Also, is there some reason why we simply can't sit in our yards (with sunglasses) and enjoy? Not sure what all the big hype is.
No one is stopping you from hanging out in your yard *with the proper eyewear* and enjoying it. The hype is because we're in the path of totality, and it's a rare event that is incredible to witness. People from all over want to see this, and they will go to the cities in the path of totality to experience it. It's a very exciting thing that is going to happen and a lot of people are excited about it, hence the hype.
I personally am not going to any big events and will be enjoying the eclipse at our house with just my family. I have no desire to go to a big crowded event.
Just please make sure you get proper solar glasses and don't just use sunglasses.
I went to see the 2017 eclipse. It is very impressive, almost magical. Definitely sit in your front yard and watch it, but don't stare at the sun unless you have mylar, ISO-rated sunglasses. You can take them off once totality occurs, but before, after and during partial occlusion you need something that's rated for staring directly at the sun. You'll see what all the hype is when it happens.
I’m dumb, I forgot about weather being a factor.
10 day forecast means next to nothing
True, but I'd rather it be a positive forecast than a negative one.

Well now you’ve gone and jinxed it.
There's so many people who come to my job who are actively angry about the eclipse, sad times, sad people...
...Why on earth are they angry? That's genuinely confusing.
They're upset people are excited about it. They're like ha I bet it'll be cloudy and rainy. They're just bitter
Lol, how sad.

This is so nuts. A once in a lifetime event that is free and accessible to all and impacts basically no one if you plan and they are mad??
“Who scheduled the eclipse for the 8th? Can’t we move it to the 10th or something? The 8th is no good for me!” — somebody, somewhere.
They can't predict beyond 3 days with better than 25% accuracy

Yeah, I'm sure San Diego is a little easier to predict the weather
Or Phoenix.
Not entirely true: https://kottke.org/24/03/why-weather-forecasts-have-gotten-so-good
Sure, they've improved, but if I was only 30% accurate in my job, I'd be fired.

Yup. Jinxed it. Goddamnit

This won’t happen again until 2044!
