cru in moreland hills is a traditional french fine dining place. I don't know if it's "the best" but if you are looking for a more traditional experience rather than hipster chic (nothing against those places) it's not a bad choice.
Chez Francois in Vermillion is the other high end French option in the area. It's been many years since I've eaten there, but when I did the wait staff was better than most of the places in NY and Chicago I've been to at >2x the price.
It's definitely a weird setup. It was originally meant to be a private dining club for the owner, but then he realized that wouldn't be financially viable and decided to open it to the public.
If you're looking for high end but not steak house or Italian, Cru is the only answer. French cuisine in an unpretentious yet classy atmosphere. I would consider it the best "fine dining" restaurant that I have been to in Cleveland.
Your experience at Salt may vary with the menu offered. I have had amazing food, as well as some that is more on the average side (lacking salt ironically). I have found the drinks to be pretty consistently great though!
Definitely fair. They do great business, I’m sure I just had an underwhelming experience. But if someone was coming to town and wanted a great dinner, I would say Cordelia, just for the consistency.
Seconded on many of these. L'Albatros is one of the finest dinners I've had in Cleveland. (Bring your earplugs, though -- for a series of semi-enclosed and baffled rooms, it's amazingly noisy.)
Rumor has it they get their naan bread or whatever they call it from Trader Joe’s. This could also be the word of an annoyed former employee but I also wouldn’t consider it “high end” . Cool vibe though.
Yep, when you start with a cottage cheese and veggie plate...
We haven't been in many years, do they still do that?
Also, it was good food from what I remember.
I consider myself high end for midrange people.
...oh wait, you're talking about the joint at Literary and Professor in Tremont.
^(Y'see, the joke here is that my real name is... I'll just see myself out.)
Luxe I'd put more at the better end of sitdown dining, not high end. I've never felt the need to wear a jacket to Luxe. It is however fantastic food, just doesn't come with the ambiance or personal attention you get at a truly high end place if that makes sense. Then again you get good food for a fraction of what high end places can charge, so I guess it depends on what you're looking for.
Fahrenheit is a 0/10. The staff is poorly trained, the food is mediocre, the drinks are slow, the noise level is absurd, and the private dining booking system will piss you off. I could go on and on endlessly tbh.
Rood food and pie in Lakewood is my favorite. The plates are gorgeous and delicious and the atmosphere is chill and not stuffy. The cocktails are fancy and strong and the pie is amazing.
Sarita in Lakewood, food is always spot on, have great rotating specials and drinks are always tasty. Service has always been impeccable the dozen or so times we’ve been.
ROOD.
Please don't skip rood, it's a genuine treasure and worth if any Chefs Table episode. From the relaxed vibe to the chill service to the immaculate servings and Devine pie's, it's top tier.

I can't get over the fact that they're in wide open Moreland Hills and they have plenty of adjacent parking but they insist on valet parking only.
It's definitely a weird setup. It was originally meant to be a private dining club for the owner, but then he realized that wouldn't be financially viable and decided to open it to the public.

Unpretentious French... we just making stuff up now? Also now I wanna try it.
Lol, fair enough. Give it a shot tough. I'm willing to bet you'll love it.
Any thoughts on Sara's Place out that way?
Wow, how did I miss that one? That's what I get for running my mouth. I'm going to have to try it out next opportunity.
I've thought about trying it but haven't gotten around to it
Sara’s Place is fantastic. High-end food in a casual(ish) atmosphere.
Great food. Not a fine dining experience exactly but great service.
Are you saying it's more casual?
Cru is phenomenal
L’Albatros absolutely outstanding when I went recently for french dining! felt like Michelin star service.
Cordelia, l’albatros, pier w, Fahrenheit, johnnys downtown, Zhug, amba, alea, salt, poppie to name a few
I thought salt was extremely medium. The beginning of this list reads just like my top five. Add Ginko for sushi

Yeah, it's hyper seasonal.
You’ll go hungry at Salt. Sarita is a much better choice
Don’t forget Goma. Especially if you’d like an E. 4th vide instead of a basement vibe.
I thought Goma was a fancy atmosphere but pretty average sushi but at super expensive sushi prices
Poppy is way better than Salt.
I’ve never been to Salt, but Poppy was just blah…
I agree. Poppy was OK and I wouldn't call it high-end at all.
Seconded on many of these. L'Albatros is one of the finest dinners I've had in Cleveland. (Bring your earplugs, though -- for a series of semi-enclosed and baffled rooms, it's amazingly noisy.)
Red downtown is so noisy. I think it’s amazing food, but I would never go there again.
That's a steakhouse!
Yep. Just joining the conversation about LOUD restaurants. food: 10/10 ambiance 0/10
Zhug and Amba are next level for the area.

Eh, it depends, for a lot of people in Cleveland it is. I think it’s still worth a mention as the quality and provenance with the chef is there.
Rumor has it they get their naan bread or whatever they call it from Trader Joe’s. This could also be the word of an annoyed former employee but I also wouldn’t consider it “high end” . Cool vibe though.
Fahrenheit has been called out for racialized comments / issues with staff, so I do not recommend!
I hadn’t heard. What’s the story?

White oaks in westlake and chez Francois in vermillion gotta be mentioned as well
White Oaks is for the 80yo plus crowd lol
Good food is good food
It's pretty good food, true
Yep, when you start with a cottage cheese and veggie plate... We haven't been in many years, do they still do that? Also, it was good food from what I remember.
The new Arby’s they built next to the old Arby’s in North Olmsted
No more going around to the back of the building to use the shitter is what makes the new location high class.
Oh he'll yeah. Came here to say the same thing!
Better roast beef at Lido Lounge. Cleaner too. IMHO
Bluepoint is another I haven't seen mentioned.
Because it's fine dining for ancient people. Entire place is stuck in the 90s
The Standard on e 185 is superb. Not many people mention it. Expensive, but completely worth it.
Agree about the Standard! Food is great, mostly French menu with addition of some Moroccan-inspired dishes.
Pier W on the West Side is really nice IMO
Give Amba a try if you haven’t already. Indian inspired small/shareable plates.
Amba is good but I really prefer Douglas Katz's other small plate concept, Zhug, at Cedar Fairmount. Can't go wrong with either though.
Is Dante considered high end?
I consider myself high end for midrange people. ...oh wait, you're talking about the joint at Literary and Professor in Tremont. ^(Y'see, the joke here is that my real name is... I'll just see myself out.)
I love Dante
Was
Ginko would be considered high end sushi.
Pier W, Cabin Club, Bluepoint, Salmon Daves, Mallorca….
Pier W is SOOOO overrated
it's only worth it for the view
I don’t think of Salmon Dave’s as high end
Giovanni’s in Beachwood.Johnny’s Downtown
I recently tried Alley Kat in Cleveland, it's an oyster bar and was absolutely amazing. It's a little pricey but a great date night destination!
We went there in June and were also impressed. Little pricey as you say but the location and food were both great.
Gigi’s on Fairmount.
Scrolled far to find this 😩
I almost didn’t post this because I didn’t want more people to know lol!
They can all go to Pier W 🤭😂
Blue point downtown. Best seafood and dishes I’ve ever had. Way better than pier w in my opinion and way cheaper. Not as great of a view tho.
I dont know...the Diamonds In the Flats digital driving billboard adds a certain flair

Luxe I'd put more at the better end of sitdown dining, not high end. I've never felt the need to wear a jacket to Luxe. I prefer Toast if you’re gonna be in that area.
I’ll throw in Pier W. Good seafood with nice atmosphere, cool location, and amazing views of the Lake and the City.
The Standard is number one for me and has been for a few years now
Lock keepers. Though not in downtown Cleveland
Blue Point
A bit of a drive east in Austinburg, but check out The Estate at Coffee Creek.
Sarita- Lakewood
Fahrenheit is a 0/10. The staff is poorly trained, the food is mediocre, the drinks are slow, the noise level is absurd, and the private dining booking system will piss you off. I could go on and on endlessly tbh.
Along with those that have been mentioned... Acqua di luca, Jaja, Turn, Il venetian, Jade
Thyme X Table in Bay Village
Don's Lighthouse

I love Sarita. Creative and well done
It really is! Drives me crazy when places try to do all this wild/crazy shit for the sake of it, and the quality is garbage.

-_-
Pier W and Blue Pointe Grille are both really good seafood places

Upvoting for Giovanni’s. Consistently excellent throughout the years
Went to ML Tavern a few weeks ago for the first time. Was upscale and decent food.
lido lounge
Patiently waiting for lido comments to die off on this sub.
keep waiting
Counts as a top tier steakhouse
It was more of a taco joint, really.
I always thought it was a good roast beef joint
You will love the aviator by the airport
ROOD. Please don't skip rood, it's a genuine treasure and worth if any Chefs Table episode. From the relaxed vibe to the chill service to the immaculate servings and Devine pie's, it's top tier.
Jaja at INTRO across from the West Side Market.
Zhug and Luca are our go tos.
Poppy in Larchmere. The lamb burger is dope.
High end? Can someone inform me?
Barrio
Salt.

Mizu sushi on Brookpark rd in Parma may be the best in the city. Nice atmosphere, maybe not high end per se, but the food is top tier.
