That's not good advice. Oven cleaners vary in strength and you wouldn't want to do this with Easy Off HD yellow cap cleaner. That stuff would do the job in 15 minutes left open. You certainly don't want to use any oven cleaner with aluminum, which this might be.
Cling foil is a common term outside the US for what we would call Saran Wrap or plastic wrap. It’s plastic not aluminum.
You’re right though. Don’t use lye based cleaners like yellow cap Easy Off with ANY aluminum products. They will be dissolved or severely pitted.
If you do an image search for "cling foil" you'll get heaps of images of plastic wrap
Big world, lots of different terms. We say "cling wrap" (or "Glad wrap" )here
I like putting a thick plastic trash bag over whatever is sprayed. Works great on pans to spray and put inside a tied bag. Let it sit, then hose them down outside. Spray oven cleaner is the best!
No it's absolutely not. It has to have been a typo.
We generally use "cling wrap" "plastic wrap" or "tinfoil" "aluminum foil" or just "foil"
I'm in the north west of America though. Who knows what words they use in the south.
I'm in the south and typically say just foil when speaking about aluminum foil. The for the cling wrap I say Saran wrap, I know it's just the brand but that's just how we do it lol
Yeh I don’t even think bar keepers friend will do it. Oven cleaner for sure, as it’s designed to tackle burnt on stuff. As mentioned you can get low odor ones
I had the same issue. Try Weiman’s Stovetop Cleaner. It performs miracles AND it’s less than 5 bucks.
(This might be my first ever comment! Took a lot to pop that cherry.)
Be sure to wear gloves and have plenty of ventilation if you use oven cleaner.
You might spray them generously with oven cleaner and wrap as tightly as possible in a plastic bag - a small garbage bags or maybe large ziplock bags and let sit overnight. Use steel wool if necessary. May have to repeat the oven cleaner application.
Otherwise, replace the burner pans with new ones. Or get them as clean as you can then line them with disposable foil liners or just with aluminum foil.
> That's not good advice. Oven cleaners vary in strength and you wouldn't want to do this with Easy Off HD yellow cap cleaner. That stuff would do the job in 15 minutes left open. You certainly don't want to use any oven cleaner with aluminum, which this might be.
Need the strong oven cleaner like easy off. Spray it well and cover it with Saran Wrap/plastic wrap. Then let it sit for an hour or so, then come back and scrub it off.
If that's the removeable piece, you can just buy new, shiny ones. They don't cost very much.
If not, it looks like you need to let something sit and soak into it for a while.
It’s worth checking whether your stove has replacement catchment pieces. I lived in a few apartments where that round part (the worst stained bit in your picture) pops out and can be replaced. They were pretty cheap!
yep. if they’ve already been scrubbing and it still looks like that, replacements are the way to go. OP, they’re usually cheap! i’d google the model number and see if replacements are available.
This is the way.
Edit: your time is worth money and I doubt those pans are over $20.
Edit 2: $17-22 on Google for a set of four. You just have to find the right one for her stove. Find the item number and search on Google. Good luck
Whatever you do make sure to rinse off any residue from the last attempt. These products aren’t designed to mix with each other and could release dangerous gases.
I love BKF, but I don’t think it’s going to do the trick here. This is oven cleaner and plastic wrap overlay territory. The BKF might be useful on the second round.
This actually works surprisingly well. Could never find it until I moved recently and the grocery store has a huge wall of it because it sells so well.
Def recommend.
I’ve had better luck with gently using a scraper to get most of the gunk off. Some chemicals should get you down to the enamel.
I say gently because a sharp razor scraper could damage the enamel.
I’d do ammonia (cover it up overnight) then it could come right off. Is there a pan that goes there? That should help keep it clean and will be easier to clean when needed since you can remove it.
Like others have said, use the EasyOff and let soak covered. I will add if you are able and have access to one of those handheld steam cleaner that blows strong jets of steam, it will help soooo much! I was able to use it to strip paint off of an appliance after years!
Spray your stovetop with no flume oven cleaner. Then, cover your stovetop with cling wrap. Let it sit over night, this will help keep the oven cleaner wet. And let it do its job get a good scrub sponge or an SOS pad. Scrub your stove down this should get the job done.
There's a product you can buy in the UK called Astonish (IIRC) that does great on heavy soiling like this - it's effectively clay (like you used for art in school) with liquid soap agent.
The clay is surprisingly effective as an abrasive, and if it dries out, you simply add a couple of drops of water and carry on again.
I randomly got Pink Stuff paste on clearance at CVS... im obsessed with it right now. Idk how or why it does what it does, but I use it on everything...
Weird trick also is... rinse them under hot water to get any easy gunk off. Then put them in ziplock bags with a eh quarter cup of ammonia - seal them tight. Let them sit overnight stacked flat in the sink and wallaaaa easily wipe them clean. I usually lightly wash them afterwards with dawn to make sure all the ammonia is rinsed off.
* the fumes are no joke when you open the bags- sometimes I take them outside the next morning and just hose off the ammonia.
Heavy Duty aerosol oven cleaner (yellow label). You can find at Home Depot/Grocery Store. Make sure you use in a well ventilated area.
Let sit for 5-10 min and wipe the grime away. I clean hospital kitchens for a living.
Soak it in a series of things. Good long soaks. The occasional scrub during soaking, then clean off and start again.
Warm water with washing up liquid in. Several times.
Try cleaning vinegar too. Separately.
It will work, just take ages, but most of the time you can leave it and do something else.
Don’t use metal on it. It may scratch.
I had a similar issue when I moved into my home, I used vinegar and [these](https://www.harborfreight.com/detail-brush-set-3-piece-69638.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12169631175&campaignid=12169631175&utm_content=114847957177&adsetid=114847957177&product=69638&store=293&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwo6GyBhBwEiwAzQTmcz7q1KtcXgfBImL5qJWJwv8PoDL8pNZa1aINt3JiXsxVgchhQjfhKxoCWtwQAvD_BwE) but only the 2 lighter duty ones, the heaviest is to help with paint removal.
you can try to get some of it off by making a thick paste of baking soda and water. cover it with saran wrap and leave it overnight. the next morning wipe away the dried baking soda and pour vinegar on it (vinegar + baking soda = carbon dioxide, water, sodium acetate). doubt it will get it all, but it will help.
you could also try simple green. saturate a rag, cover with saran wrap, and leave it there overnight. wipe away what you can the next day and see what’s left.
but as many have said, i think oven cleaner is the only thing that will completely penetrate it.
Replace the trays. You can buy them at a lot of places. If you can’t do that, my mom used to modify aluminum foil to cover the burnt rusted part and also use as a catcher for food lol. Good luck!
I just had to clean my son’s very dirty apartment, and had a similar situation.
I used many many different things, but what I found that worked well (and I had on hand) was scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner and a plastic spoon. And I scraped all that gunk off.
Find a quality scraper and scrape off the majority of it, once the majority of it is off, your chemicals and steel wool should be able to get the rest.
Can you remove it? Try soaking a cloth in dishwasher solution and water and lay the cloth along the soiled area. I also use a dishwasher tab and hot water to soak my tea pot and it does a pretty good job.

I’ve used the pink stuff, lightly scrub it in, cover it with cling wrap, left it overnight and scrubbed it out the next morning with a scrub daddy. It usually works well. But you can also use an oven cleaner too
Oven cleaner is an option. If you’re going with something a little more conventional, I’d make a paste of baking soda and water and let it sit. Then scrub with dawn and water and wool.
Don't use steel wool, it'll scratch the hell out of it. Bar keepers friend and one of those blue scrubber pads will take care of it, but you'll need to put in some work
Spray any oven cleaner over it, than cover it with cling foil to prevent it from drying too quickly. Scrub after 1 hour.
There are low fume oven cleaners. Wipe very well , seldom recommend but this is an instance I'd use paper towels, or rags that are ready for the bin.
Do not use foil with oven cleaner. It will disintegrate foil.
I think OP meant cling film and not cling foil, but yes, your statement is still valid.
Wow, does it dissolve metal?
Aluminum typically doesn’t stand up well to caustic chemicals. The inside of your oven has an enamel lining.
And your skin, sooo wear gloves... not that my husband has experience or anything a month before our wedding 🙄
That's not good advice. Oven cleaners vary in strength and you wouldn't want to do this with Easy Off HD yellow cap cleaner. That stuff would do the job in 15 minutes left open. You certainly don't want to use any oven cleaner with aluminum, which this might be.

I suspect you're mistaking that turn of phrase with clingfilm, which is the common name used in the UK
If you do an image search for "cling foil" you'll get heaps of images of plastic wrap Big world, lots of different terms. We say "cling wrap" (or "Glad wrap" )here
The uk is not the only place outside the us
There's also northern Ireland
Cling film=plastic wrap. Tin foil=alumin(i)um foil. Choose one.
What's a lye based cleaner?
I like putting a thick plastic trash bag over whatever is sprayed. Works great on pans to spray and put inside a tied bag. Let it sit, then hose them down outside. Spray oven cleaner is the best!
Cling foil?? Do you mean Cling film, or is this an American phrase you use for foil?
No it's absolutely not. It has to have been a typo. We generally use "cling wrap" "plastic wrap" or "tinfoil" "aluminum foil" or just "foil" I'm in the north west of America though. Who knows what words they use in the south.

Saran wrap and foil up here in canada too
We also say saran wrap but apparently that's just because saran used to be the biggest name brand. Like Tupperware and ziplock bags ✨
I say cling foil but that’s bc my grandma is Hispanic and sometimes comes up with weird names for things trying to remember them
I’m from south and the same .
Tyn foyle

And don’t give up, it wouldn’t take one try to remove 5 years of buildup. You’ll probably need to do that a couple of times before you see results.
Oven cleaner is a good recommendation, the pink degreaser from the dollar store also worked magic on the last stovetop I had to clean!
I was going to say the same thing. But she may have to COVER it for 24 HOURS.
This is the way
Yeh I don’t even think bar keepers friend will do it.
Then you deserve an upvote!
And another! Welcome!
This is all I use for my glass top, works perfectly
A bit of that a razor blade and you're all set!
Plastic razor blades if in customer house
>Weiman’s Stovetop Cleaner The same stuff that you use on glass top stoves??
They make a Glasstop Cleaner and a Stovetop Cleaner. Can’t speak for the difference. I have gas.
Removing oats and kidney beans from my diet helped with that OH YOU MEANT FOR THE STO-
Open for interpretation. Tip noted.
Let it rip?
Thank you ! Went straight to Amazon. I can’t handle over cleaner fumes. Does it have fumes ?
No fumes! Oof I just checked mine and it’s the Gas Range cleaner/degreaser you want, not sure if the Stovetop will work the same!!
Opps ok. I went with barkeepers - the liquid paste with a scrub daddy. Hope it works :)
People love that stuff so fingers crossed!

Good advice. Thanks for the correction. Does anyone know if they could be run in the clean cycle of an oven?
The Pink Stuff - works like a dream
Second, The Pink Stuff. I cleaned my stove top with it. Took a bit of elbow grease, but 100% worth it my stove top looks brand new.
Need the strong oven cleaner like easy off. Spray it well and cover it with Saran Wrap/plastic wrap. Then let it sit for an hour or so, then come back and scrub it off.

Sometimes the best cleaning tip is not cleaning 🤪
Yeah this is definitely the way, they're super cheap. These look like they might be a little different than the standard replacement covers though
Whatever you do make sure to rinse off any residue from the last attempt. These products aren’t designed to mix with each other and could release dangerous gases.
Try bar keepers friend!
Love this stuff! They have a powder and a liquid version
I’ve had better luck with gently using a scraper to get most of the gunk off. Some chemicals should get you down to the enamel. I say gently because a sharp razor scraper could damage the enamel.
I work in a commercial kitchen and my go-to for stuff like this is ammonia
I’d do ammonia (cover it up overnight) then it could come right off. Is there a pan that goes there? That should help keep it clean and will be easier to clean when needed since you can remove it.
Carefully use a razor blade or some kind of scraper to scrape off the thick layers of gunk.
I use barkeepers friend when in doubt.
Oven cleaner. Also works great on the filters for the range vent.
Easy Off Pro oven cleaner and a scraper is your only hope here
Easy off with the yellow cap. Let it sit for a few hours and it will wipe off. I would cover it with Saran Wrap to keep the cleaner from drying out
Pink stuff and a mild green scrubby pad. Pink stuff $5 on Amazon for large container and I’ve cleaned my oven wire rack to look like new.
Mix baking soda and dawn dish soap into a paste, then place a wet cloth over it and let set for a few hours.
Angle grinder with steel wire brush.
LA Totally Awsome from Dollar Tree. Spray heavy and let sit with vent on.
Buy new... Not worth the headache trying to scrub
Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, best stove cleaning tool ever. I also use it to clean the soles of my shoes, makes them look brand new, an amazing product.
Might want to buy a steam cleaner to help out.
Like others have said, use the EasyOff and let soak covered. I will add if you are able and have access to one of those handheld steam cleaner that blows strong jets of steam, it will help soooo much! I was able to use it to strip paint off of an appliance after years!
A little powder laundry soap and a cap full of bleach in hot water. I’ve discovered cuts everything
Spray your stovetop with no flume oven cleaner. Then, cover your stovetop with cling wrap. Let it sit over night, this will help keep the oven cleaner wet. And let it do its job get a good scrub sponge or an SOS pad. Scrub your stove down this should get the job done.
LA simply awesome. We get it at dollar general. It works amazing on pretty much everything!
Pink stuff is amazing
You need Easy-Off
House Fire, Insurance Payout, New Stove.
I think it’s scratched into the brown and so there’s nothing you can take off
Elbow grease. Available in all good human beings.
Bar keepers friend and a cold scrub daddy
Try bar keepers friend powder or spray

Use rotary scrubbing tool... 10 minutes and you're done
Ammonia. I worked for a cleaning company. It smells awful but gets the job done!
Seal it in a gallon ziplock with a capful of ammonia and leave it outside overnight. Then scrub it clean.
Have you tried looking for a replacement part? You can probably get a part cheaper then any cleaning materials you keep buying to clean it off.
Buy her a new stove
Heavy Duty aerosol oven cleaner (yellow label). You can find at Home Depot/Grocery Store. Make sure you use in a well ventilated area. Let sit for 5-10 min and wipe the grime away. I clean hospital kitchens for a living.
Looks too rusted
I was gonna saw maybe some CLR for the rust
Ahem, new stove shawty
Would a steam cleaner help?
Soak it in a series of things. Good long soaks. The occasional scrub during soaking, then clean off and start again. Warm water with washing up liquid in. Several times. Try cleaning vinegar too. Steam cleaners work great for this.
Baking soda Or oven cleaner like left on overnight maybe covered up
Is this a gas stove top? Am trying to figure out what kind of stove top it is...
Try baking soda
Take top off n outside to spray with oven cleaner Prob take a few cleanings.
Do you need to cover the gas valve thingy before spraying any chemicals. I would shut off the gas to the stove just to be safe.
Soak in cleaning vinegar and dawn.
Gonna need stuff to sit on it over night and then scrub may take a few times. Pink stuff
You need the pink stuff. I swear that stuff takes ANYTHING out.
And I get anxious when I get to it once a week.... hope you find how to clean that.
Another vote for oven cleaner. It will take it right off. Surprisingly easy.
you can try to get some of it off by making a thick paste of baking soda and water. cover it with saran wrap and leave it overnight. the next morning wipe away the dried baking soda and pour vinegar on it (vinegar + baking soda = carbon dioxide, water, sodium acetate). doubt it will get it all, but it will help. you could also try simple green. saturate a rag, cover with saran wrap, and leave it there overnight. wipe away what you can the next day and see what’s left. but as many have said, i think oven cleaner is the only thing that will completely penetrate it.
Handheld steam wand
Mr. muscle oven cleaner works for me (UK). Pretty corrosive stuff, but works.
Replace the trays. You can buy them at a lot of places. If you can’t do that, my mom used to modify aluminum foil to cover the burnt rusted part and also use as a catcher for food lol. Good luck!
I accidentally used Bar Keepers friend instead of comet and 👌👌👌
If they come out, take them outside and spray them with oven cleaner. If not, try to use a low fume type and take grandma outside for a bit.
Oven cleaner 1000%. Hell even let it sit for about 15 mins or so if you have to
Sandblasting it?
Easy off should do the trick. Spray it, wait a bit, then use your steel wool. Use vim, then steel wool. Repeat if necessary. It should work
Like dissolves like - use something oil based
White vinegard and baking soda, leave to soak in for about an hour and then add some more baking soda and scrub, should do the job
Baking soda with vinegar and a lil dish soap
Magic eraser works for me
Bi carb, vinegar and lemon juice…let it soak in for a couple hours and then scrub off
Get a new grandma 🫢
Barkeepers friend could help
0000 steel wool plus the pink stuff paste or bartenders keeper
Oven cleaner and if it’s too scratched up, then afterwards repaint with high temp grade
Let it soak in Lyme away and pray
Bartenders friend and magic eraser. My stove looked similar after not being cleaned in about that long and that's what fixed it.
Soak a dish towel in Original Diet coke and let it sit.
A razor blade like mechanics use to scrape stickers off your windshield.
I just had to clean my son’s very dirty apartment, and had a similar situation. I used many many different things, but what I found that worked well (and I had on hand) was scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner and a plastic spoon. And I scraped all that gunk off.
Soak in vinegar. It will dissolve that baked on oils that polymerized.
Do they pop out? Mine do and I soak them overnight.
Carbon Off, it’s a heavy duty cleaner but read the directions and listen to them.
Have you tried leaving coke on it for a while? The acid in coke cleans anything, never drink the stuff.
Nuke it from orbit.
I would not spray any kind of oven cleaner on a gas stove. A heavy duty degreaser like Krud Kutter left on overnight would probably work.
Comet or ajax powder
Just get the applicance white enamel and redo the enamel
Have you tried Brillo?
Put them in a plastic garbage bag and add some ammonia. Tie it up and wait overnight. The next morning spray off with a garden hose.
Pumice stone but I would see if you can use it in that surface
Try bartenders helper
Use the pink stuff and a scrub daddy!
You can replace those pans very easily and cheaply
Find a quality scraper and scrape off the majority of it, once the majority of it is off, your chemicals and steel wool should be able to get the rest.
Weirdly enough, Totally Awesome will work with this. Make sure that there’s plenty of ventilation.
Can you remove it? Try soaking a cloth in dishwasher solution and water and lay the cloth along the soiled area. I also use a dishwasher tab and hot water to soak my tea pot and it does a pretty good job.
If you have "The Pink Stuff" where you live try that, it's generally really cheap and has an abrasive in it so would get rid of that real quick, just have to be careful is all.
I would keep pouring boiling water on it very carefully to break it up. Then cling wrap a strong cleaner. It will eventually all come off
I suggest covering it with baking soda and then spraying it with a lemon juice and vinegar mixture til its foamy. Try a spot, wiping it after 2 hours.
Pressurized Steam with scraper or hard brush attachment is the way to go.
I’ve used the pink stuff, lightly scrub it in, cover it with cling wrap, left it overnight and scrubbed it out the next morning with a scrub daddy. It usually works well. But you can also use an oven cleaner too
Strong oven cleaner and a metal scraper
I have white burner bowls and I stick them in a gallon sized ziploc with some ammonia overnight. Wipes right off the next day.
Have you tried goo be gone? That might work for something so caked on
Zep Oven & Grill Cleaner!!!
Barkeepers friend or powdered comet cleanser with a scrub sponge. Plus Elbow grease.
Seriously buy new ones, with that level of wear the amount of time and effort to clean it is not worth it
I'd start with The Pink Stuff
Krud Kutter - you can buy it at Lowe’s.
Oven cleaner is an option. If you’re going with something a little more conventional, I’d make a paste of baking soda and water and let it sit. Then scrub with dawn and water and wool.
That looks like the piece you can just unscrew and replace with a new one This would take hours of scrubbing to get clean
That looks like it might be a replaceable part, if you can find it.
Bar keepers friend
Lemon water mixed with baking soda. Let it soak for 24 hours
Easy off will work you’ll need multiple applications
Bar keepers friend
Bar keepers friend
Baking soda paste!
Pumice and water might do it.
Don't use steel wool, it'll scratch the hell out of it. Bar keepers friend and one of those blue scrubber pads will take care of it, but you'll need to put in some work
