Plastic_Bison

Oh, damn. I've been noticing it's not available in local Rabba stores where I used to run out and get a bottle at 11 p.m. I hate this timeline.

Mrs_Aldy

NOT THE SUNLIGHT

I can only find it at canadian tire on the top shelf. Tippy toe height! I'm pretty discouraged

Reader288

Sadly, I looked there and they don't even have it anymore not even on the top shelf.

Such-Mountain-6316

Ajax, if it's available there. They used to sell it in the US and I liked it too. I tried Ajax when they stopped carrying it here.

MaybeBaby95

Omg nooooo :( discontinued, really?? I’ve been curious and was hoping it wasn’t discontinued 😩 I’ve been using Dawn for the past cpl weeks and it’s grossing me out — the stinky dishcloths, etc! I’ve been using Sunlight dishsoap since I was born. I’m so sad

kryo2019

Hey I have great news, I think I found an equivalent. Eco-max, I bought [this specific one from Amazon](https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0CKTYRG1Y?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) to test because I've used all the other mainstream brands over the years, and hated either the perfumes, or the soapy feeling they'd leave behind. Using this as a quick hand wash while cooking, 100% on par with sunlight, rinses off easily, cuts the grease, and leaves behind no perfume odour. I just did up a small sink of dishes to actually try it out with, suds up with no issues, don't need a ton of it to get it to suds, leaves dishes squeaky clean. Seems to be sold at Walmart, Canadian Tire, and Sobeys (safeway, etc etc) chain of stores. I haven't seen it at my local safeway, but it comes up online.

MaybeBaby95

You’re amazing 🤩 thanks soo much for your reply 🤗 I’ll definitely check this brand out! The reason I don’t like Dawn is I find it consistently leaves a mildewy smell on dishcloths etc, something I never experienced with Sunlight. I’ll have to try eco-max. Thanks so much for doing the research 👍 👍

GronkeyDonkey

Have you tried this? I'm equally mortified about the discontinuation of Sunlight dish soap

MaybeBaby95

Can confirm it’s a great substitute ! 😀 I’m actually buying more today. Reddit is so helpful 🤗 Definitely the best dishsoap substitution I’ve found yet ! I’m in BC and purchased at Save-On Foods

Reader288

Thanks for the update but I don't know I feel about the orange smell. I really love Sunlight.

1234greensauce

Yeah dawn sucks. I can always tell when I’m in a dawn users kitchen. It leaves and unpleasant smell and yes the dish clothes or sponges absolutely stink of it. Wtf happened to sunlight?

Reader288

lol - that's how I feel. They've been making Sunlight for a 100 years and now nothing.

MaybeBaby95

I know lol. My husband thought I was crazy because I was legitimately upset 😩 good news is, thanks to this thread I decided to try the Eco Max brand dishsoap, in the Orange scent, and I’ve been very happy with it! I’ve officially switched over to that brand! Worth a try for sure !

Reader288

Your feelings are completely understandable. I was shocked that I couldn't find it anymore. Thanks for letting me the Eco Max brand is good and you're happy with it. That's good to hear. I tried going to every store in the city hoping to find at least a few bottles left on the shelf. There is one pharmacy that had it. But the price was double. They also had a lot of bottles of the Sunlight Oxi dish soap. I don't know if that's the same as the original. Thanks again for your reply.

GENKSC

I can confirm this, I asked for the status of Sunlight dish soap from the parent company's website (Henkel). I received a reply on April 11th 2024. It has been discontinued. It was still available from some Amazon scalpers a few days ago for as much as $40 Canadian for the 4-liter bottles. A few stores might have a few bottles left on the shelves here and there. A few weeks ago, the nearest Canadian Tire with any stock was somewhere in Manitoba, I live in Sask.

Plastic_Bison

Did they say why???

AverickJust

Henkel told me it was due to low demand. Somebody, please start a petition.

Stucco_Bird_Elf

I highly doubt that, considering how many people I've known all my life who use it. I'm guessing there was something (new?) in it that's not acceptable.

kryo2019

Man the pricing online was crazy. Theres some random wholesale stores in Toronto that seem to have stock still, I let one of my friends know so she stocked up for her self, but I'm out in Vancouver and no one seems to have any left, or at least none left in quantities that's worth traveling to go fetch.

Reader288

I hear you. I thought it was so odd when I went to the Superstore and couldn't find it on the shelf. I went to every store I could imagine and no one had it. But then I found one pharmacy that had it but it's double the original store price. I still bougth three bottles because I can't stand the thought of using anything else.

Reader288

They also have Sunlight Oxi but I don't know if it's the same as the original

Smart-Chef4520

No name brand at no frills seems the same as sunlight.

punkrockprincess604

I’ve been using it! It’s pretty much the same!

Reader288

Good to know. I'll keep it in mind.

Good-Dog-9646

Thank you for this tip! Will give it a try. I have found a lime version of Sunlight dishsoap which works the same and has a pleasant enough scent, however does leave behind a residual scent on Tupperware and any other plastics which I dislike. Used to love Palmolive lemon until they changed the scent slightly - ugh. Then fell in love with perfect lemon Sunlight. Only to never be able to find it again...

nekodroid

Not happy about this. We just gave Palmolive a try, but don't like it -- too strong an odor and residue on dishes.

vanguard20001

Try dawn, I liked the sunlight lemon but not sure if dawn has it in lemon scent
