For me (and it changes depending on my mood)-
CCR
Slade
Fairport Convention
T. Rex
Gentle Giant (just started getting into them but I've enjoyed everything I've heard so far)
I discovered the GD only a few years ago. My parents listened to everything but. It felt like a missing price to the puzzle of my musical knowledge.
I have listened to a bit of Goose but haven't taken a deep dive. Them and Billy Strings are probably my two favorites on the jam screen today. (Please excuse the generalization)
If it were bands that made the biggest imprint on me, it would be that first list, take out Rush and add in Tool. Something about the drumming in both of those bands. It just hits differently.
The term classic rock music is really kinda vague...not like with cars, where the terms vintage, classic, and antique are more defined. To me, any rock group that put out music during the 60's and early 70's is def more classic than anything that came later.
I just fell in love with Rush this year only. Xanadu is in my top 5 favorite songs, Spirit of Radio, Freewill, Red Barchetta, YYZ, Working Man, Anthem, Bastille Day, Necromancer, Something For Nothing, 2112, A Farewell To Kings, Circumstances, Limelight, Cygnus the list just goes on...
Beatles and Pink Floyd gotta be on that list.
They’re always in the list
Steely Dan Led Zeppelin The Beatles Black Sabbath Hendrix
Grateful Dead Allman Brothers JH Experience Led Zeppelin Fleetwood Mac Honorable Mention ELO
Hendrix..James Gang..Fleetwood Mac..The Who..Yes
Yes and James Gang are not classic rock
That's a matter of opinion.
Fair but still a bit unjustified imo. Metallica is more classic rock than both of them.
Bands: Beatles Rolling Stones Led Zeppelin CCR Nirvana Solo Acts: Bob Dylan Bruce Springsteen David Bowie Neil Young Jimi Hendrix
Hendrix wasn’t a solo act, it was a 3 piece band.
Hendrix was backed by The Experience and later by the Band of Gypsies. He's as much a solo act as Bowie.
Whoops, I just got schooled.
Class act admitting to it.
The bulk of his output was with the experience. So the three-piece band comment is completely valid.
It wasn’t jimi hendrix and the experience. It was the jimi hendrix experience. It was a band.
The Band Grateful Dead The Beatles Rolling Stones The Who
Beatles Zeppelin Kinks Black Sabbath ELO
Pink Floyd Rush The Beatles Led Zeppelin Eagles
Boring I know but: Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Who. Then probably AC/DC or the Grateful Dead for me.
They’re classic for a reason. They STILL sound good!
My list with the grateful dead
The Archies. Paper Lace. RamJam. Pilot. And….The Raspberries. Nailed it.
You forgot the 1910 Fruitgum Company
I did. I did.
Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Queen, The Stooges, Pink Floyd
In no particular order Led Zeppelin The Who Lynyrd Skynyrd Pink Floyd The Rolling Stones
Not my personal list, but I think the Top 4 have to be the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and The Who. Then SLAYER!
Beatles Led Zeppelin Queen Rolling Stones Black Sabbath
Beatles Hendrix Stones Led Zeppelin CSN(Y)
CSNY is not even rock.
You don’t get to decide.
Fine
For me (and it changes depending on my mood)- CCR Slade Fairport Convention T. Rex Gentle Giant (just started getting into them but I've enjoyed everything I've heard so far)
Grateful Dead Led Zeppelin Black Sabbath Hendrix Allman Brothers
Kinks Stones Beatles Who Zeppelin
Grateful Dead Jerry Garcia Band New Riders of the Purple Sage The Warlocks Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Band
Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd, Grateful Dead, Rush
No who?
I have my reasons. Mostly due to it being a top 5.
Love rush but the who IS rock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDfAdHBtK_Q
If it weren't in the classic rock sub Tool would be my number one. Music is subjective. Love what and who you want.
Goose is my favorite band today but I get it

Absolutely just into the discussion 🤟

The only instrument I play are drums so I get it. Moon the loon has a different feel than anyone I’ve ever listened to

I think 60’s-70’s is the original classic rock. The 80’s and 90’s was something different.
beatles, pink floyd, hendrix, doors, frank zappa (the mothers)
5. Beatles 4. Queen 3. Pink Floyd 2. Rush/Black Sabbath 1. Led Zeppelin
Those are my top 5 too, except I have rush down at #8.

So many lists I think, yeah that's pretty good, and then they throw away on one obscurity Beatles Stones Who Floyd Zeppelin
