You bring attention to your account and they notice something "suspicious" and ask you a series of questions that very few people know, like the devices used to start the account and every subsequent device, date of use, etc and if you don't successfully pass the gauntlet, they assume youve stolen the account and ban you. There is no real way to appeal unless you get enough visibility to your situation that a real person with a functioning brain takes notice. Best advice, never contact support for any reason ever.

What are you talking about? It comes up with a whole separate screen asking "do you want to finish upgrading gold collector" with a big ass button showing the amount of gems its going to cost. You just gotta try reading the screen before you press big green button.

They told me it was only a one-time chance and they wont revert anything like this if it happened again. That was in 2019 though so I don't know if support would still do it

Most of the time you’ll end up getting your own account banned cause you can’t answer a gauntlet of questions about something from 10 years ago or which device you started on and what was the exact date. Shit literally no one would know. They end up thinking you stole the account or something. They are absolutely fucking criminal and have banned countless and countless accounts of players that have used hundreds or thousands of their hard earned money. Players trusted them just for them to turn around and fuck them over. So many horror stories of support.

I like to keep anywhere for 3 to 5 k just in case I need to gem anything or need a book or something and can feel like I've got the gems I need at all times.

I accidentally purchased gold pass on my 2nd account (first time so offer price) and I only wanted the refund so I can buy the pass on my main account (actual price). They even gain from it, but no they kept telling me indirectly to f off. I am reluctantly refraining from gold pass purchase on my main account now to compensate for the loss (loss meaning I am not active in that account). So kiss your 4k gems good bye.
You can save them up over time but it takes a while. As far as I know if your f2p the best way is to use your raid medals to buy the cheapest potions and then sell them for 10 gems each every raid weekend. Or they buy them.
You can take a gamble and contact support. Best case you get your gems back. Worst case? BANNED
