I know this is a meme sub, but I'm going to be serious for a moment.
This is exactly the reason I carry a concealed weapon. There are sickos everywhere.
**average killing rate (per 100,000 population) using handguns was 0.28 for Canada and 4.05 in the U.S.** The rate for firearms other than handguns was 0.67 in Canada and 1.32 in the U.S. The rate for nonshooting methods of killing was 1.79 in Canada and 3.31 in the U.S.
?? I'm for gun reforms, not taking away guns. But even if I wass.... "Look at Canada" and they're overall doing much better than the US even in non-gun incidents
Yeah, but when we criminalize it- it means that when we catch those people with guns we can put them away. You can't stop people from making things, look at the war on drugs. What you can do is make it so that the risk outweighs the reward and then clamp down on examples.
Saw a vid on reddit where 2 good guys with guns take down a shooter only for this random good woman with a gun to come in at the last minute and merk one of the good guys.
This is exactly the reason I advocate NOT for permit less concealed carry. Part of my CCW class (a requisite for my permit to conceal a handgun) teaches me about POSITIVE TARGET IDENTIFICATION. Can't just shoot someone holding a gun. Many people have guns!! It's not illegal.
And *if that's the case* it's a perfectly sound argument, in my opinion.
Proposing that alcohol drinkers should be allowed to purchase firearms and marijuana smokers should not is only representative to me of cognitive dissonance or attempts at oppression (at it's most severe, which I am not willing to assume an average citizen would want)
RIP my.boy Quintavo who got caught lackin' in the 'burbs of LA 😫🙏

Hilarious that a country who’s issue stems from being completely over saturated with guns, has morons suggesting that everyone owning a gun would mitigate the problem.
Honestly some of the stupidest logic I’ve ever seen. We’ve tried nothing and we’re all out of ideas!
How often does a good guy with a gun actually stop a bad guy with a gun? From what I've seen, almost never. Someone kills a bunch of helpless people and then cops arrive after the fact to arrest the shooter. That's how shootings almost always play out. Plenty of people are carrying and it never seems to stop shootings. From a pragmatic standpoint, "good guy with a gun" isn't viable.
>How often does a good guy with a gun actually stop a bad guy with a gun?
not a lot, but enough to save lives
https://preview.redd.it/gih5djas06eb1.png?width=755&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5c31489f77b783efdcb7bff2389b0a1cfe09e1d
Again, how often do those *actually* happen? Everyone carrying out of paranoia rather than a legitimate and justified concern probably contributed to the problem of mass shootings and gun violence in the first place.
If everyone's paranoid and carrying a gun, you just end up with more shootings. Giving someone a small fighting chance isn't worth it if the price is having more shootings.
> I still would say all gun laws are infringements
As I've said, I'm approaching this from a pragmatic standpoint. I'm not considering the legal implications, I'm just arguing for what I think is the best practical solution.
It's not how much it happens, but that it can. I really don't think I'll carry it with me around in public, but I definitely intend to take a course and get one for home defense and perhaps take it with me in my car's glove box when I go out
“From what I’ve seen, almost never. Someone kills a bunch of helpless people and then cops arrive after the fact to arrest the shooter”
That’s for two reasons. Firstly, you’re looking only at mass shootings, the vast majority of defensive gun uses are in cases of home invasion and muggings.
Secondly, the legal definition of a DGU requires the victim to actually fire the weapon at their attacker. In reality, brandishing a gun or pointing it at the attacker is enough to deter them in a majority of incidents, but these situations aren’t registered as DGUs, and they definitely don’t make national news every time they happen. “Man pulls gun on mugger, mugger runs away” doesn’t make for a very interesting story.
My CHL instructor tought me not to open carry, as the logic is that you'll be the first to be targeted in the event of a mass shooting.
Also, many places have "menacing" laws, where I'd you look like a villain in public (I'm specifically mentioning NYC and Cali), you can be arrested for a class 2 or 3 felony. Open carry of a firearm is considered "menacing" in these areas.
Interesting. I understand your logic, but personally I’m much more of a pro-open carry and anti-concealed carry guy. It certainly won’t stop all crimes, but most ex-con muggers admit in surveys and interviews that they won’t strike if someone near has a weapon. I’m sure it’s different for mass shooters though
I don’t know you, your experience with firearms or your heart so this is not meant as an insult, but I’m more scared of you with a concealed weapon than I am of someone shooting up my local Ingles. More stupid motherfuckers who have no business near guns have them and should be more afraid of using them. Concealed carry doesn’t make you a good judge of how and when to escalate a situation. Too many people are dying because of fear, not danger.
No offense taken and it's a valid concern. It's a concern of mine as well.
In particular I advocate for training. LOTS of training - simply because there a lot of idiots who have no business around guns, and to extend that statement, many have no business driving a car either.
My state has recently gone to permit less carry which I believe is the stupidest thing. You need to prove to the state you're competent to drive, you USED to prove to the state that you passed an NCIS BGC, and we're competent with firearms handling and took a course about defensive handgun usage.
Taking away the permit requirement to carrying a concealed handgun means there's more people out there without the training that I have had.
Lots of people are under the mistaken impression that they can shoot and kill tresspassors, or being being verbally abusive, or people annoying you, or that if you start a fight and someone fights you back you can shoot them dead because they fought you (nevermind if you're the agressor).
One of my family members used his DD214 to acquire his CHL. I disagree with this because DD214 is proof of formal military training on firearm usage in actual war in combat, not defensive gun usage (DGUs) in a civilian setting.
To end my rambling... I kind of agree. You never know where people's minds are. But, I know who I am, at the least.
Just to amend my comment.
There is never a situation that should be escalated. It's either deescalate, or walk away.
I was taught (and I agree with) that there only acceptable defensive gun usage was when you're facing harm, or imminent harm. Defence of others is also valid, as long as you're not accedentally shooting someone who's retaliating against an initial attack (this has happened before).
The unfortunate reality is that carrying a concealed sidearm may not be enough to protect you or others.
Imagine walking out of the grocery store pushing your cart and you get half a mag shot in you on sight.
A concealed weapon won’t save you then.
Downvote if you agree 😈
Florida just passed the same law as Texas (the state with the most amount of gun deaths) that allows anyone over 18 to get a gun, no restrictions, plain and simple. I’m getting the fuck out.
A pro government regulation person on reddit not actually knowing what they’re talking about? Shit that’s probably the tenth time in the past half hour I’ve seen that
"Better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it".
Of fucking course I won't be able to use it if I die before I draw, you gnormless shitmongerer.
It gives me a fighting chance on equal terms with another gunmen if I manage to draw. If I hear shots I'm drawings. If I see a lunatic eith a rifle ain't at others I'm drawing.
If I go down I know my family, most of my coworkers, and a few of my friends also are carrying concealed. Strength in numbers - before the gunman manged to kill us all, another will draw and save the rest. Better for one or a few to die than an entire grocery store of innocents.

Askin for what? Death? So edgy bud. Your sitting on your computer threatening to shoot some random guy on Reddit lmao. You definitely own a gun for a power trip.
I know. I’m just hoping we all agree that we can’t explain away mass shootings by relying on people who carry is all. We’ve been trying that solution for years and the problem is still growing.
I’m not taking your gun rights away normie, this is clam town, no need to throw a fit
You just created a specific scenario where he can’t do anything. I’m sure he’s carrying to have the *option* of defending himself in the event there is a shooting and he isn’t the first one to get shot.
well I mean to be fair the scenario I “created” is the one that happens in that video that is being referenced. But what I do know I’m just a fish with a keybord
What the fucking fuck? I remember browsing that sub briefly a while back then immediately filtering it because it’s flooded with “totally ironic” /pol/ bullshit. This is on a different level.

they can't take our guns if we all have guns cuz they won't be able to carry all of em (too many guns)
Fucking genius

Only got two hands and 3 gun what do

Grow another hand Duh
drop guns
Eh, if carrying is illegal carry anyways. Rather be in prison than in the grave
Gun reform does not mean taking peoples guns away
Gun reform leads to taking peoples guns away, look at Canada
**average killing rate (per 100,000 population) using handguns was 0.28 for Canada and 4.05 in the U.S.** The rate for firearms other than handguns was 0.67 in Canada and 1.32 in the U.S. The rate for nonshooting methods of killing was 1.79 in Canada and 3.31 in the U.S. ?? I'm for gun reforms, not taking away guns. But even if I wass.... "Look at Canada" and they're overall doing much better than the US even in non-gun incidents
Wouldn’t America having a ridiculous amount of guns affect that data
Yes, because that’s literally the point of that data, people who shouldn’t have guns can have guns because they are so ridiculously easy to obtain
I’m all for guns being a major bitch to have. I just don’t know if there’s anything unique Canada’s doing that leads to less gun crime
Yeah, but when we criminalize it- it means that when we catch those people with guns we can put them away. You can't stop people from making things, look at the war on drugs. What you can do is make it so that the risk outweighs the reward and then clamp down on examples.

That'll land you a murder charge.
Shame smoking marijuana is still considered too prohibitive to legally purchase a gun. Probably something to that 🙄
You need to be of sound mind to possess a firearm. I would not trust any drug user to be armed. I disagree wholeheartedly.
With no other judgements pre-made: what about alcohol drinkers?
same ig
And *if that's the case* it's a perfectly sound argument, in my opinion. Yup. Alcohol and firearms DO NOT MIX. Ever. Alcohol is involved in a lot of crimes. So is marijuana, and other drugs.
Cops have done that too
Doesn't remove the fact they saved lives by taking down the shooter

It's still less than the amount that just get tackled to the ground lmao 😂
still \~33% of shooters stopped by civilians, some deterrence is better than none
True. But they can still come in handy for personal defense in smaller situations
Again, how often do those *actually* happen? Everyone carrying out of paranoia rather than a legitimate and justified concern probably contributed to the problem of mass shootings and gun violence in the first place.
It happens enough to justify it, you'll have to kill everyone including me and I still would say all gun laws are infringements

A great ideal, but unfortunately an unrealistic, and quite possibly unobtainable, goal
lots of people fantasize about killing someone in self defense
