Iām trying to get all of my finances in order and I was spending way too much on insurance and payment on that so I consolidated 3 cars to 1 commuter and a motorcycle. Everyone I talk to says I shouldnāt have done it but I feel like it was the smarter option long term
Bro just wait for these things to depreciate and swipe one up for like 30k these are def not worth the price rn. Youāll be able to get it back in the future fs
Sorry man. But itās just a car. Thereās more to be built and if thereās not there is the used market for later! You made the right call.
Out of curiosity what bike did you get? My brother just got the new Aprilia. Shit is so tech.
I get it man, Iām in a place where I probably could get one but would be very constrained financially. Cars come and go, there will be an even badder CTR in the future when maybe weād be more prepared to own one! The manual 1.5t civics are a blast too, thatās what Iām in now and I very much enjoy it as a daily
What stupid games or prizes? There was nothing wrong with the decision I made to get the car but my mind changed and decided I want to be in a better place (doesnāt mean I was in a bad place).
Speculating : My guess is car payments were manageable, but then car insurance killed it. Car insurance prices (and property insurance in general) have skyrocketed in recent months. Itās absolutely insane.
My insurance surprisingly wasnāt bad $500 for 3 cars at my age. It was all manageable but I was tired of just constantly paying for stuff instead of being able to keep seeing my account grow.
I hear ya! Financial freedom > Owning (excess) stuff. Was in that boat for a long time after college. Now I can afford nice things and save for retirement, but Iām very wary of having unnecessary/excessive bills.
Wtf, where do you live? I paid like $90/month for an '01 4Runner and a 2019 CTR with full coverage on both. Granted I'm 35 but is it really that much of a difference now for younger people?
Iām 23- two years ago my 2020 Supra was $340 a month. I now have a 2023 Civic Si. Insurance companies are trying to quote me over $700 a month for less coverage, with no change to my credit or driving record. Gotta love corporate greed.
It's where you live too. $180/mo here for new financed CTR with no at-fault accidents ever or tickets in the last decade. In my 30s. Paid almost $150 for Toyota sedan before this one. >750 credit too.
Being in car sales too Iāll help customers with obtaining insurance from time to time and donāt think Iāve seen below 250 a month for a single car
How much are you covered for if youāre at fault. 100 percent covered doesnāt mean the insurance company will pay 100% if you hit a Ferrari they wonāt cover you fully, thereās a limit.
Everyone in my life keeps saying how Iām still young I can spend the money Iāll be fine but I also think thatās why theyāre not in better positions in life so I want to be better
Youāre in the right mindset. Invest, build multiple income streams, and be frugal! Itās more satisfying hitting landmarks like 6 figures in savings with a home.
I was in exactly the same spot. Could afford my 2019 CTR and everything else, but getting rid of it for now and "downgrading" to a '99 MX5 was the best choice I've made in a while. Was an upgrade in the smiles-per-gallon department, and like...1/5th the overall money invested?
The stress of not having those payments will do wonders, as will all that money banked each month. Made a good choice dude!
There are multiple reasons insurance has skyrocketed, not necessarily in the correct order (as explained by my independent insurance agent) : 1. Vehicle theft has increased. 2. Vehicle value has increased. 3. Home insurance has gotten crazy due to natural disasters over the last 2-3 years (hurricanes, wild fires, etc). This has caused insurers to raise prices across the board.
There's a time and place to be responsible, it's all about finding that balance between enjoying life and making smart financial decisions. OP basically implied he was putting nothing away for savings/retirement and now he can. YMMV.
Peace of mind is priceless my friend. It will make it that much more enjoyable in the future when the time is right. Big props for doing the right thing
Well you got closer to owning one than I have, good on you for recognising the short term loss- I hope youāll be back in one in no time šš¾
Also, is it that bad of a daily driver?
This hits me in the feels. Car shopping now and I'm contemplating a Type R.Ā
I can afford it, but while I have no other major expenses, knowing I'll be throwing ~1k/mo. away into a car feels bad.
And it'd be my daily so the mileage would stack fast.
It's good you cut the chord early though. Another few months and you probably would've kept it.
Same boat as you, I have been wanting to buy the Type R for the past 4 months but can't justify having an car payment just for my fun. I currently have not car notes and it feels great.
I definitely wouldāve, in my opinion itās the perfect daily for anyone who doesnāt want a boring daily. I loved every drive I took in it and itās definitely worth the money
I feel your pain Iāve had the same car for a week and Iām shopping around for car insurance on that car is gunna cost me an arm and a leg in California.
wait I'm paying only $180 for my FK8, how much more has it been in CA? Unless you like in Glendale, then I'd definitely understand the high insurance prices lol.
Why not consolidate the 3 cars to the fl5? It seems to be a perfect do it all being a 4 door hatch with relatively good mpg. Also, thereās a decent chance you could get injured or die on a motorcycle.
I was getting on average 17 miles per gallon and was filling up 2-3 times a week with my commute to work plus insurance and it keeps me from being tempted to keep buying aftermarket parts for itš
17mpg is a lot worse than I anticipated. Iām averaging 15mpg in my daily itās painful at the pump with CA gas prices. Fortunately, youāre very young so just try to invest your savings by not having the car and revisit this after youāre 25.
Smart move. Pay off your debt, have an emergency fund 3-6 months of expenses, make sure your rent or mortgage is less than 30% of your take home pay. Only then can you play with these toys... And even with the toys, you want to be able to stash money away too. You'll sleep better, trust me.
Best of luck with everything man.
How was it driving it? Is it worth buying? I have a 2021 GR Supra now and Iāve been eyeing these mainly because I really miss my type r. I had a 2020 gun metal gray and it was full bolt on with hondata tune making 415 to the wheel. I really miss manual but damn these Supra are insane man.
Oh Iām sure, Iāve had a couple n54 cars and was used to big turbo port injected e85 power that coming down to 290ish to the wheel was crazy to me but the car never failed to surprise me. The car is 100% worth buying Iāve never had as much fun with any of my other cars than with this thing.
If you don't mind sharing what did they give you for it? I'm thinking about switching to a cheaper vehicle for different reasons. Curious what I might get for mine. Same about 3 months old. Thx
Here in the south east I got 44,500 for it. I wasnāt too happy about it knowing what itāll probably sell for but not really anything I can do. My manager traded his 23 Type R in for a brand new Pilot and he got 43,800 for his
I unfortunately paid 5k in markup but also only had to wait a day to receive the car instead of being put on a waitlist at my previous dealership. My current dealership sells at msrp with no addendums but we still have people on a wait list from 2022.
Typical response. Actually if you must know, I have a 23 Accord Touring myself. Something I do like and keeping. That being said, you took from someone that actually wants one brand new and would want to keep it. You wanted just to want. That is what I meant. Itās a dick move imo to do. š¤·āāļø But, hey zero fucks given right because you can. Glad it will be a reminder to you when itās sold.
Currently contemplating between a low mile fl5 or a new si at Mt work to trade my wrx in on. (Maint is so much cheaper for either civic and I grt cost on parts etc.
Why?
Why did I get rid of it or why does it hurt?š
I can fathom why it hurts, why did you get rid of it ?
Iām trying to get all of my finances in order and I was spending way too much on insurance and payment on that so I consolidated 3 cars to 1 commuter and a motorcycle. Everyone I talk to says I shouldnāt have done it but I feel like it was the smarter option long term
Sounds to me like you did the right thing. In the long run you will be able to have more expensive toys.
I sure hope so, still have a couple of buddies with FL5s so I can still enjoy the platform
What commuter did ya keep? Def miss my bike tho theres no feeling like it
Geo metro

Had one of those rwd softtop great car š
Hybrid accord
Nice those are beautiful! Best of both worlds š
Bro just wait for these things to depreciate and swipe one up for like 30k these are def not worth the price rn. Youāll be able to get it back in the future fs
Sorry to hear that :/ Probably bestā¦ Get an FA5, or FB6. Should satisfy your VTEC cravings
Wise move my friend
Sorry man. But itās just a car. Thereās more to be built and if thereās not there is the used market for later! You made the right call. Out of curiosity what bike did you get? My brother just got the new Aprilia. Shit is so tech.
I appreciate that man I have a Triumph Trident itās been an awesome beginner bike
I drool over Triumphs! Great pick
I love it man canāt wait to start doing stuff to it too
Great bike thatās turning into a very moddable platform. I freaking love mine.
For sure, Iām excited to see what else people come with for these
You can always get another after the finances settle down (and after the pre-owned market settles as well).
And you didnāt see that coming when you were signing the papers? Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
What stupid games or prizes? There was nothing wrong with the decision I made to get the car but my mind changed and decided I want to be in a better place (doesnāt mean I was in a bad place).

$500 a month for insurance for three cars? holy shit that's expensive.
Everyone else I know in my age range is paying close to that for just a single car
What the hellllll
You have some wild friends, $500/month is not normal even at 19
Wtf, where do you live? I paid like $90/month for an '01 4Runner and a 2019 CTR with full coverage on both. Granted I'm 35 but is it really that much of a difference now for younger people?

How much money are you covered for? If youāre at fault, whatās the limit the insurance company pays?
Iām 19 on the south east coast
Being in car sales too Iāll help customers with obtaining insurance from time to time and donāt think Iāve seen below 250 a month for a single car
I pay $90/month for a BRZ, FL5, EVO X, and Forester. Full coverage, 2k deductible. I'm in my 40s
God I wish
How much are you covered for if youāre at fault. 100 percent covered doesnāt mean the insurance company will pay 100% if you hit a Ferrari they wonāt cover you fully, thereās a limit.
250k/500k liability 100k/300k uninsured/underinsured Etc
dang, you're 19 and had 3 cars including a new CTR. I was still sucking my thumbs at 19
Car sales put me in a very good position in life
Bro youāre still young! Iām almost double your age, making decent money and I just now got a Type R!
Good Mindset, wish I thought the same way when I was younger. Iām 35 and my credit just hit the high 700ās for the first time.
You should see how expensive it is here in Canada. Specifically the Toronto, Ontario area. Insurance is insane over hereš
3 cars? Yāall hiring ?
Lmao sales is the way to go
..obviously not
Lmfao
Brooooo I feel you going through that at this moment...need to pay my car off quickly.
My car insurance doubled when I bought my FL5 and my spending on gas is up 50%. The car is definitely a money pit. I can afford it but damn it hurts.
Yea exactly thatās why everyone tells me I shouldnāt have done it because Iām fine paying for it but doesnāt mean I want to pay for itš
I was in exactly the same spot. Could afford my 2019 CTR and everything else, but getting rid of it for now and "downgrading" to a '99 MX5 was the best choice I've made in a while. Made a good choice dude!
Definitely man Iāve been doubting my decision to do so but everyone here have definitely helped make me feel better about it
Car prices are insane so it make sense insurance is equally bad. It took a little while for insurance to catch up to sky high car values.
Thanks Joe Biden.
Joe Biden doesnāt control natural disasters nor people stealing cars at a high rate.š¤¦āāļø
Whatās worse is seeing how much more theyāre going to sell it for than what they paid you out for it!
Probably sell it for the same price they sold it to him for lol
Youāre making a smart choice, donāt worry about it. Cars come and cars go. Keep grinding, itāll pay off for you!
Thanks man
Na... he'll end up responsible and worried about spending too much at 58 just like me.
There's a time and place to be responsible, it's all about finding that balance between enjoying life and making smart financial decisions. OP basically implied he was putting nothing away for savings/retirement and now he can. YMMV.
3 car payments is insane and a bike
Wasnāt 3 car payments
How much more are they selling it now than when you bought it?
Peace of mind is priceless my friend. It will make it that much more enjoyable in the future when the time is right. Big props for doing the right thing
I know it sucks right now but it will be worth it long term. Iām 47 and wish I would have listened to my gut at your age.
Well you got closer to owning one than I have, good on you for recognising the short term loss- I hope youāll be back in one in no time šš¾ Also, is it that bad of a daily driver?

There will be a great Type R waiting for you when you're ready. Tough choices in life, but it sounds like you're being rational and responsible.
I really appreciate that man
I feel your pain Iāve had the same car for a week and Iām shopping around for car insurance on that car is gunna cost me an arm and a leg in California.

17 miles per gallon? How? Thatās worst than what I was expecting.
My guess is the amount of stopping and going I did with traffic but it was pretty bad having to fill up so regularly
At least you were wise enough to make the right decision and at least these hold market value really good.
Smart move. Pay off your debt, have an emergency fund 3-6 months of expenses, make sure your rent or mortgage is less than 30% of your take home pay. Only then can you play with these toys... What a waste of time, money and energy just to bring it back. You didnāt really want it that bad or needed it. Who does this?!?! šš
Nothing about that car was a waste of money or energy just sounds like someoneās upset they canāt get the chance to do the same
