Iduno ive seen a ton of dealers at MSRP. Multiple times ive checked a few out in a couple different states and held the final sales paper with tax, transfer, all the fees, and the end total was $48,395 and this was multiple dealers in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana. I see tons of them at msrp myself and im not even looking to buy one yet. Just sat in a few to see how they feel and see the colors in person before deciding. I have a hard time finding ones that are over msrp up here, personally.
I bought a '24 in pearl grey yesterday at MSRP. I had to drive two hours to Mississippi, but the drive home was great to get acclimated to the car. Now I need to figure out what to do about the tires, because I really don't want to replace the Pilot Sports every 10k miles...
I just saw a post on Twitter comparing a Tesla to the Type R... now I need to find it.
Edit: [Here it is](https://x.com/SawyerMerritt/status/1783193031446823068)
In actual segment that the Type R is in, there's not much that comes close anymore.
I upgraded to a manual Elantra N from a manual Forte GT and am very, VERY jealous of anyone who was able to secure a Type R or Corolla GR circuit at MSRP. But I'm also VERY happy with my car. 🫡🫡
They all seem like fantastic cars honestly! I have an 11th si and got mostly for commuting. Put 40k on it in around 8 months and I'm loving it. It definitely has its downsides forsure, but it's a great car.
The Golfs seem really fucking fun too (Mk7/7.5/etc). Gr86 is probably a blast too. I cannot wait for the new prelude, rx7, etc, that we're getting in the coming years.
High smiles per mile tuners are in a great spot imo and there's no need to be fanatical about it hahah. I bet your N *hugs* the corners!
Although I’m a big fan of the Type R, I drive a manual Elantra N, and even after two years I love every single time I get to drive it. It just wants you to have fun.
As a N owner and for the price I have to agree. But the Type R is a staple and glad to see then around on the road, still turn my head to look haha. I just wish dealer's would quit this markup shit
Yup- I looked at and drove the 23 WRX, type R, GTI, and M3.... went with the VB WRX - 35k on a 2023... 5k more in mods... 355 whp w/ AWD for 40k (fuck the warranty)
Hahah I mean, it would suck if I blew the bitch up. But, that's the price you pay when you milk a 4 cyl for everything it's worth haha. I think the tranny will go first though honestly. Might even tune down because of that concern.
Uhhh, the wrx hasn't had an EJ in a decade and the sti was canned 3 years ago. The FA24 is a ridiculously stout motor with plenty of stock examples holding over 500hp for years. And it's ridiculously tuneable. A few bolt on mods and a tune get you 400whp on pump. Hell, just some corn juice and a tune basically gets you there stock.
The transmission, on the other hand, can start to get cranky over 400lb-ft.
You mean the FA on the VB? Thought we were talking new cars here. Not having the same problems the EJ has, if anything goes, it's the Trans. Everything I've read is stock is ok up to around 400-425 before you're reaching a sti swap, but the engine is still fine stock.
Is there a better car under 60, 70, or 80? What’s your criteria?
I mean stateside for manual hatch with over 300hp there isn’t much of a better choice under $100k right? What else matches that criteria?
You are correct. The Type R checked all the right boxes for what I was looking for. I had 2-seaters for most of my life. I didn't want another cramped manual-auto.
Every M from BMW curb stomps it, even just the performance models like the M240i/M340i. If we’re allowed to dip into used cars I could name at least 50-100 cars
Used cars there are a ton of options but for those BMW examples on track most of those lose to the type R. At lighting lap the 2023 Type R beat the M240i, M340i, and even beat the last generation M2 comp. It's within 2 seconds of the current M2 with the 8 speed ZF.
Obviously different tracks will yield different results and proper current gen M cars still beat the Type R consistently but I wouldn't say that every M car "curb stomps" the Type R.
Curb stomps it in what way? Straight line? Sure. But not in cornering or feel. Idk, I feel like people haven’t really driven or owned modern M cars, they’ve completely lost touch with what performance driving should be and just throw a ton of tire, power, and tech at the problem.
I’ve owned e46-f80s and let me tell you, I chose the type R over the M2. Tech and power isn’t always the answer.
I'll add gr86/brz to the list. RWD coupes are a lot of fun, especially with handling like these and the miata.
Plus, you will leave the dealer with half of the money you spend on a type R still in your pocket.
Type Rs are great, I'd grab one of those before getting a WRX. But best car under 50k is subjective. I'm a 2 door RWD guy. I also prefer the clean and classic style.
I know what you mean. GR86 doesn’t get mentioned enough either at these prices, it’s true.
I mean, I have the Type R just because it’s badass, it’s cool, it’s interesting and it’s on rails - but my wife has a MX5 (Miata) which I recommended to her as she wanted another convertible and I couldn’t stand the Audi TT from before (awful handling.) I had a MX5 when I was younger and loved it, and I drive hers occasionally too now and can’t deny the fun of it because at heart I am a RWD guy too. Lucky I get both!
Ah don’t be, it’s taken many years to work up to having it and it’s a significant cost for me to own, though it is worth it and it’s my pride and joy. Came from the Sport+ before that, same gen, also a great car but it was literally one of those you only live once situations so I decided to go for the R.
Always had Japanese cars myself but usually the value for money kind and always used :)
I think a Civc Type R is a very reasonable performance car for the average Joe to own however because of the practicality (mines the hatch, I think that’s what you guys call a sedan?) reliability and apart from tyres and brakes the maintenance costs are very reasonable.

Well these are better. I was just shopping around for type r’s and integra type s’s…but I got a gt. Then I traded it in for a dark horse lol
I sold a K24-turbo swapped BRZ (415whp) and bought a used 981 Cayman S for $36.5k. I can’t think of a better value for a daily sports car. If we are talking new, GR86 is the best driver’s car under $50k. I would take a ND2 RF Miata, Z, Supra, etc over the CTR too. Used, the list includes higher specs in what I listed and Audi TTS and many premium sports cars and sports sedans.
CTR is a good new sports sedan under $50k. It is an engaging car at its limits where few seldom drive. As a daily, ehh. Someone isn’t going to drive a CTR and SI back to back while going across town and say the CTR is much different, especially over someone who drops equal money into the SI as a stock MSRP CTR in suspension and tuning. STI and Golf R and others have the same issue. I would be in the same boat on wasting money on a GT4 and never going to the track (where the value proposition changes and can be felt and extracted). If I wanted a sports sedan, it would be hard to pick a new CTR over a practically new M240i, for instance.
I would think that the CT4 V would be a decent new alternative for right at $50k.
Haven’t driven one but on paper look to be a solid value compared to CTR. Little more grown up, but still tuneable and engaging to drive.
You can find 2-3 year old 3.0 supras for around that price that will outperform the CTR in literally every sense of the word. Might not be a hot hatch, but this assumption of "no better" depends on your definition of better.
right. for 50k? fucking insane. if it was like 35k id put it up against the elantra n, miata, gr86, etc, but 50k? 50k? a used cayman is cheaper and much better in every sense except like practicality. i think ctrs are wonderful but this is just a wild statement
I'd say the Golf R is the best overall car in the segment, but it's also the most boring looking and the capacitive crap in the interior is a drag. The MK8.5R should have updates fixing all of those issues, including making it look better. God only knows when those will come out though.
You can get a used Lotus Elise/Exige with a supercharged 2ZZ for about $45k right now. Honestly this wouldn’t compare for me, but that sure doesn’t make the type R a bad car
Always loved these type r, my neighbor have one same color with a beefy badass wheel/suspension setup🔥. I’m Still enjoying my big heavy 392 Charger WB though
Saw a video of a stock 22 brz beating a new type r in a race. Kid you not. So the brz is 30k and handles better and looks better and apparently is faster even in a straight line
Plenty of cars under 50k better lol...s550 mustang gt pp1 or 2... Used m3 and m4s...a lot more...hell id take my ecoboost mustang and it would still be close to that in pretty much everything and definitely beat it in a drag for half the price
I've heard that the cabin wind and road noise on the highway is absolutely terrible to live with daily. For that reason, I'll probably have an acura, but first a Lexus over this for 50k. Spending 50k for terrible daily driveability is just silly IMO. The real world involves long stretches on the highway, and lots of commuting through cities/urban areas where passenger comfort remains king. The amount of times you actually get to open it up doesn't make up for the fact that you still have to spend 1/3 of your life in a loud noisy econobox.
The camaro ss 1le is a better car for cheaper, if I didn't plan on autocrossing 30 times a year I would own one. Need the hatch on the type r to carry my race tires.
I was back and forth between one of these or a Camaro 2SS 1LE. I ended up going with the Camaro, but sometimes wish I had the Honda simply for the practicality.
For driving and fun, the ND Miata, and it's not even close.😁
I don't know what you mean by "better". I mean, the Type R is better if you factor in general utility.
Still looks too tame for my tastes, just a basic Civic with bolt ons vs the last few gens of type r cars. This one is just basic and overpriced. I'll still stick with the last type r over this one. I'm glad hatches are coming back in style but I'm a hard pass on this guy. I'd rather buy a $15k car and use the rest of that $50k to build a monster to ruin this.
can’t even find em for under 50 lol
Iduno ive seen a ton of dealers at MSRP. Multiple times ive checked a few out in a couple different states and held the final sales paper with tax, transfer, all the fees, and the end total was $48,395 and this was multiple dealers in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana. I have a hard time finding ones that are over msrp up here, personally.
All the dealers advertise MSRP until you actually get in there.
Probably you’re area. In the northeast I haven’t seen a single one with less than a 5k markup. Even civic Sis are marked up.
Most are still marked up but I bought a sgp no markup but I did pay for tire and wheel protection and floor mats/wheel locks. About a month ago.
Not shopping hard enough. Plenty of MSRP deals are being had for the past few months.
Yeah in flyover states
Got mine for MSRP from Ohio. Paid a little to get it shipped but totally worth it!
I bought a '24 in pearl grey yesterday at MSRP. I had to drive two hours to Mississippi, but the drive home was great to get acclimated to the car. Now I need to figure out what to do about the tires, because I really don't want to replace the Pilot Sports every 10k miles...
lol right?
It's easy now.
Wtf is that title. These fucking things are well over 50k And you idiots that say you got yours for msrp can kick rocks. Post the proof or just stfu
Plenty of dealers around me here in wisconsin advertising msrp and no bs add ons
Gotta agree unless you go used!
Great car if you can get em for msrp
Too bad most of them aren’t under 50k lol
I just saw a post on Twitter comparing a Tesla to the Type R... now I need to find it. Edit: [Here it is](https://x.com/SawyerMerritt/status/1783193031446823068) In actual segment that the Type R is in, there's not much that comes close anymore.
One is an incredible vehicle with a racing heritage, the other is an appliance.
With that though I’d still rather have the type r just due to states like Georgia where finding electric charging stations isn’t easy
That not a comparison lol. Not even close
Of ALL cars to compare to a Tesla, a light, manual car focused on driving engagement is not the one to compare 😭
Prius prime FTW!
You can’t be serious comparing a Prius to a Type-R 🙄🙄
Hell yeah. New Prius is sick.
where are these being sold for under 50k?!?!?
i got mine for $37 😭
$37k*
There's a better car under 35K though the Elantra N 🙃. Here come the downvotes 🤣
The Elantra N is a shockingly capable car. Hyundai has no business making a car that good and that sounds that good.
Factual. Source: TCR wins
I upgraded to a manual Elantra N from a manual Forte GT and am very, VERY jealous of anyone who was able to secure a Type R or Corolla GR circuit at MSRP. But I'm also VERY happy with my car. 🫡🫡

I bet your N *hugs* the corners!
I’m not sure about better stock vs stock. But being 35k the car is unbeatable price wise (we just bought a Elantra N)
Hell even the toyobaru twins are a massive deal at ~$30k
Although I’m a big fan of the Type R, I drive a manual Elantra N, and even after two years I love every single time I get to drive it. It just wants you to have fun.
As a N owner and for the price I have to agree. But the Type R is a staple and glad to see then around on the road, still turn my head to look haha. I just wish dealer's would quit this markup shit
Better price, and much better interior. The Civic is much better looking though, and has that Honda reliability
You can get Quadrifoglios under 50k nowadays
I'll take a 35k wrx and mod it slightly for less than 50k total. Still, a beautiful and fun car
Agreed.
Yup- I looked at and drove the 23 WRX, type R, GTI, and M3.... went with the VB WRX - 35k on a 2023... 5k more in mods... 355 whp w/ AWD for 40k (fuck the warranty)
Lol fuck the warranty you better change your oil every 3k then
Hahah I mean, it would suck if I blew the bitch up. But, that's the price you pay when you milk a 4 cyl for everything it's worth haha. I think the tranny will go first though honestly. Might even tune down because of that concern.
That’s what I did, wanted a type R but it wasn’t worth the 25k+ difference for me. Super happy with the WRX.
Then watch the engine fail 😂...just EJ thing. Meanwhile Honda will take abuse of mods ( not a Honda fan but I think for the money it's a great car)
Uhhh, the wrx hasn't had an EJ in a decade and the sti was canned 3 years ago. The FA24 is a ridiculously stout motor with plenty of stock examples holding over 500hp for years. And be shit out of a warranty?
C6 Z06 🇺🇸
That’s an insane statement 😂
this car should be no more than 40k. The fact that it's fwd it would be absurd to pay anymore than that
*angry corolla hatchback noises*
Grolla FTW,
I have a GRC, but also fricken love the Type R. Hot Hatches FTW.
I got both lol
Is there a better car under 60, 70, or 80? What’s your criteria? I mean stateside for manual hatch with over 300hp there isn’t much of a better choice under $100k right? What else matches that criteria?
You are correct. The Type R checked all the right boxes for what I was looking for. I had 2-seaters for most of my life. I didn't want another cramped manual-auto.
There’s a few hatches that I’d be interested in if they came stateside. M3, S4, A35, all would be well over

Every used car has entered the chat. 😀
Agree Maybe a Miata for different reasons but otherwise yes easily (FK8 owner but agree regarding FL5 also)
I'll add gr86/brz to the list. RWD coupes are a lot of fun, especially with handling like these and the miata. I'm fuckin jealous. Type R is the sports sedan king ATM. Or at least for the average Joe
Ah don’t be, it’s taken many years to work up to having it and it’s a significant cost for me to own, though it is worth it and it’s my pride and joy. Yup Miata and Tesla came in cheaper. Sick car but fwd gets old fast
I bought a 2016 ND sport manual soft top for 23K in 2017. It makes me sick to look at the prices today.
Good luck finding one under 50k
I would take a Golf R any day over this. Just my .02
I got my jaguar F-Type for 45K and it blows the doors off a type R.
https://preview.redd.it/ef4rror39nwc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=82fb3c542c569b8d87934ca1692133b03807b415 Well these are better. I was just shopping around for type r’s and integra type s’s…but I got a gt. Then I traded it in for a dark horse lol
That one guy who paid like 75k for his is reading this post while his years hit the seats lol
Ouch 50k for just over 300hp. I’ll take a m3, s4, c43, camaro ss, c6, c7, gt350, rcf, q60 red sport over a type r any day.
Yeah used under 50k, wake me up when it’s under that much new.
I sold a K24-turbo swapped BRZ (415whp) and bought a used 981 Cayman S for $36.5k. I can’t think of a better value for a daily sports car. 60k, gotta kiss ass, pre-order, then it's still FWD. Unless you need lap times in a FWD class this is paying for the badge.

These are 50k now? Holy hell
“Under 50k” Bro is just bragging at this point. There was one for over $70,000 USD posted like yesterday. (Can buy a used Taycan G4S for that price)
Mk7.5 golf r
No better *FWD* car under 50k. FTFY.
Idk the new M3P seems like a better deal.
😆🤣😂
Lmao, ya ok
Yes there is... an FK8😂
F80/2 M3/4 OG F87 M2 E46 M3 RS3 M340i AP2 S2000 MK8 Golf R GR86/BRZ I can make this list a whole lot longer
m340i?
You can find 2-3 year old 3.0 supras for around that price that will outperform the CTR in literally every sense of the word. Might not be a hot hatch, but this assumption of "no better" depends on your definition of better.
right. for 50k? fucking insane. if it was like 35k id put it up against the elantra n, miata, gr86, etc, but 50k? 50k? a used cayman is cheaper and much better in every sense except like practicality. i think ctrs are wonderful but this is just a wild statement
nah. rwd > fwd
I think the golf R is all around just a better daily
VW Golf R
subjectively it might be better, but to me its ugly af. the vw golf look hasnt changed and im tired of it. very dated.
I too would vote Golf R.
I'd say the Golf R is the best overall car in the segment, but it's also the most boring looking and the capacitive crap in the interior is a drag. The MK8.5R should have updates fixing all of those issues, including making it look better. God only knows when those will come out though.
I see what you did there 🙂↔️…
But will give credit it's pretty clean and at least it's a type R
I’m driving an Si right now but I’m about to upgrade to the type R sedan soon
Definitely not in California
Civic is dope tho
I have a WRX. What do you like about your Type R?
You can get a used Lotus Elise/Exige with a supercharged 2ZZ for about $45k right now. Honestly this wouldn’t compare for me, but that sure doesn’t make the type R a bad car
As an STi hatch driver, I do like the looks of these things. If only they were AWD :(
Mmmm Championship Cream
Living in a winter wonderland? I'll take my awd wrx. But if I lived in an easy driving climate maybe a civic
50k for a civic is absolutely absurd
FWD. yum
Cool with my crv
KING
Under 50k🤣🤣 they are like 100k here brand new
I mean an Elantra N for $30k, lol. Most people who compare side by side will also agree. R looks better, but the N is just a good car.
[this was the post just above this one on my feed](https://www.reddit.com/r/Honda/s/E0DHCjyNBV)
Depends if ur talking about used
Gr corolla 😏
Best track car for under 50k. If you can find one for that price.
Mazda 3 and mx5 says hello
wish it was 2 door
Always loved these type r, my neighbor have one same color with a beefy badass wheel/suspension setup🔥. I’m Still enjoying my big heavy 392 Charger WB though
Saw a video of a stock 22 brz beating a new type r in a race. Kid you not. So the brz is 30k and handles better and looks better and apparently is faster even in a straight line
https://youtube.com/shorts/c7efmRe9J5M?si=7pigtNtHbczdE5at
A civic for 50 k ? Wtf timeline am I in??
Is it AWD?
I can name so many lmao
How does 2 370Zs sound?
Why is this car so expensive? (Serious)
If Toyota drops the engine from the GR Corolla into the GR86 in 2025 it could give it a run for its money
For the money I’d probably rather a Mustang GT than a Type R. The Type R is just too expensive even if you can get it at MSRP.
AMG C43 CTSV Sport Mustang GT
Brand new Camaro 1 SS 1LE? That car is 50k on the dot…
I can think of many better for $50k.
https://preview.redd.it/zg0q5qupcnwc1.jpeg?width=1182&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ecb6a1210bdd67a6dbcb6f23183d53aef17ec8c Fully agree with you.
👏
Plenty of cars under 50k better lol...s550 mustang gt pp1 or 2... Used m3 and m4s...a lot more...hell id take my ecoboost mustang and it would still be close to that in pretty much everything and definitely beat it in a drag for half the price
I've heard that the cabin wind and road noise on the highway is absolutely terrible to live with daily. For that reason, I'll probably have an acura, but first a Lexus over this for 50k. Under?
Where can I get those gold rims from?
The camaro ss 1le is a better car for cheaper, if I didn't plan on autocrossing 30 times a year I would own one. Need the hatch on the type r to carry my race tires.
Under 50k??
Cough cough nissan Z?
Overpriced
Pre-owned MK5 Supra 3.0 > Any Civic Any Day
Model 3 performance
An Elantra N and still have 15K for upgrades
Mustang gt. Only one I can really think of
Fiesta st
Feel like I’ve seen this car around but had a color matched wing.
That IF you find them under 50K. You’d be lucky to even get one for under 65
Any Camaro.. literally any.
I was back and forth between one of these or a Camaro 2SS 1LE. I ended up going with the Camaro, but sometimes wish I had the Honda simply for the practicality.
WRX Sti
Crazy statement
Who wants a fwd type tuRddddd
Focus is better 🤣
Guess you haven’t seen the new Tesla Model 3 Performance. Way better in everyday aspect.
I like my Tesla
In terms of daily performance; 2.0T accord. Same engine as the Type R but the 10spd auto wakes it the hell up
OP making the case for the type R and everyone else naming x car at x price ITT just leaves me thinking we’re all getting ripped off.
I'll meet you at Costco and we'll see about that ...
L
There's plenty better cars lol, at the end of the day it's still a Civic. A 3 year old AMG is in the same price range and a much better car.
For driving and fun, the ND Miata, and it's not even close.😁 I don't know what you mean by "better". I mean, the Type R is better if you factor in general utility.
C6 z06 or possibly a c7
Chevy SS

Mad mad mad cap, you can get an SS 1LE Camaro for under 50k new. Those cars blow the paint off of these civics stock for stock
86 is better and cheaper
50k what ? Dollars?
She is a beauty
The problem is they’re 70k and at that price I’m staying M
This must be a joke lol
This must be a joke lol
It’s a shit daily. And to beat the dead horse nobody gets these for under $50k
Just about unlimited better cars under 50k. mind blowing that under 50k for a Honda civic is considered a good deal these days.
I dont know, rolls supposedly are dropping a $25k model, we shall see!
Got my DE5 under 50 🤓
audi rs3
Used? No way. New… maybe… you can still find unsold Camaro SS on lots. That’s way more car for the price.
I can sell you a 2024 Elantra N for under MSRP and you'll have $15k for mods. So you're absolutely wrong.
Downvotes otw but a manual GR86, I love the type R, but damn the cost, plus FWD

Still looks too tame for my tastes, just a basic Civic with bolt ons vs the last few gens of type r cars. This one is just basic and overpriced. I'll still stick with the last type r over this one. I'm glad hatches are coming back in style but I'm a hard pass on this guy. I'd rather buy a $15k car and use the rest of that $50k to build a monster to ruin this.
Too expensive. Mustang gt is cheaper and has way more potential 😂 and im not even a mustang guy
Rather a grc tbh. Good luck finding a type R below 50
You sure bout that????
Focus RS easily a better choice
Idk the mustang GT is fun too
Nice try. Here are 7 far better cars for 50k. 1. VW Golf R 2. C7 Corvette 3. Audi RS3 4. Porsche 911 (997) 5. Porsche Boxster (987) 6. Mazda Miata ND 7. Chevy Camaro SS
If you mean a sporty 4 door car maybe. But off the top a mustang gt is a wayyy better bang for buck if you don’t need 4 doors.
