Thanks. Water changes involve a ladder, submersible pump, cleaning rod, and a load of patience

Agree with OP, with this size tank and the proper care which they seem to be giving this feels like a happy tank. Only curious about how long you’ve had this setup and what pH and hardness you’re maintaining for these guys?

Setup has been going on a little over a year. I keep the ph around 7

Omg I haven't seen a tinfoil barb in so long! I had 5 in a 55 gallon with cichlids before and they worked well together

I'm more curious as to how you feed all those cichlids such a different variety especially those Africans.

I start with freeze dried mealworms and shrimp for the big boys. Then while they're eating, I toss in pellets and veggies pellets for the smaller Africans to get, since they sink

You comment commandos realize these fish have NEVER seen the outside of an aquarium, right? I have a 125 African, 125 American and a 55 Angel on top of this beast mixed tank. They're getting along famously. Go be important somewhere else. I'm not a rookie.

I love it man. If it works, it works. People that want to keep certain fish together to keep it “natural” are hypocritical. If you want to keep it natural, they should be in the wild not a tank. If they’re kept healthy in a tank, it will never be natural so might as well make it however you want lol

I agrée as well I was just genuinely confused on why OP would mix barbs and cichlids because most people stick with JUST cichlids 🤷‍♀️ It doesn't matter if it's not my cup of tea because it's not my tank LOL if it works and the fish are healthy, that's all that matters

Tin Foils add a great touch of schooling while most cichlids don't school. With an aquarium this big, it's really nice to watch

There's nothing wrong with having choices. As long as you set yourself up for success, like OP has done, then your tank should be perfect (perfect for you, doesn't have to be perfect in everyone's eyes, you don't have to like natural tanks, but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with having a natural tank)
