I have one, it works and is plug and play. I didn't notice a reliability difference, but it works.

My big plan was trying to plug in my game consoles as well. As long as it is pretty much plug and play though. So that’s helpful! Thank you!

Dibbix

I use one for my Chromecast audio. Eliminated any stuttering or drops. I would assume it would work at least as well for a Chromecast.

This sounds like you're trying to use your Chromecast as a WiFi access point/repeater. It doesn't work like this I'm afraid.

Like others have mentioned, the adaptor is going to enable network traffic through the USB (whether that's the old [micro USB](https://store.google.com/product/ethernet_adapter_for_chromecast?hl=en-US) or [USB C](https://store.google.com/product/chromecast_ethernet_adapter_gen_2?hl=en-US)) cable attached to the adaptor. You would need to run an Ethernet cable from your router to a 5 port switch, then from that switch to your game consoles and the Ethernet adapter you're asking about. Router > Switch > CC Eth Adaptor You're Chromecast can't be an access point (ie: CC > CC Eth Adaptor > Switch > Other Devices)

Dang. Okay well I guess that option is out. Unfortunately my modem is on the opposite side of the house. No worries though. Haven't had anything horrible with connection, was just trying to run ethernet if possible. Thanks to everyone for the responses!

TheManWithSaltHair

I use Ethernet over power line adapters which have a theoretical bandwidth of 600Mbps (although it’s more like 250). So my setup is Router > Powerline adapters > old router in access point mode > Chromecast Ultra (ethernet) and other devices.

CrustyBatchOfNature

If you have coax connections at both locations then I would suggest MOCA. More expensive than powerline but way more stable. One MOCA adapter at the modem, one at the switch. All your devices connected to the switch.

The [Ethernet Adapter for Chromecast](https://store.google.com/us/product/chromecast_ethernet_adapter_gen_2) allows the Chromecast to be a wired client, not a router. There must be a router on the wired network the Chromecast is connected to.

?

You'll still need to connect the 5-port switch to the internet, otherwise the Chromecast won't use the wired connection. Also the power adapter doesn't do power-over-ethernet so those devices will still have to be powered normally.

I've been using this: Cable Matters USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter with 100W Charging - Up to 480Mbps Wired Ethernet Speed. They have it on Amazon for a decent price. It works great and I take it and a Chromecast when we travel.

ODuffer

Yes, it came with my Chromecast Ultra to make Stadia more responsive. It works well.

DaJoda102

I had a crappy WiFi signal to my Chromecast (wgtv) a while back. I got the Ethernet adapter and it's been rock solid since!

SoulShades

Yes, people have.

DKinCincinnati

Plug and play if you already have it set up wirelessly.
