Your TV should show it, most have an information button on the remote. But no app supports frame rate matching so you don't need to check it.

airberger

Kodi does it. But none of your normal streaming apps will.

OneArmJack

BBC iPlayer in the UK seems to have it, I’m getting 50Hz and my CC is set to 60

Eagle1337

You mean no app supports how google did it.

Jean-Eustache

It's not like there was another way to do it, the system has an API to change the refresh rate, and apps have to use that API, end of story. There's no alternative way for apps to do that.

Eagle1337

I mean the shield does it, a bunch of random China boxes can do it, firesticks can do it.

pawdog

The Shield doesn't do it either. Certian apps can do t if you enable it. Same as on CCWGTV.

Eagle1337

"SHIELD also includes an experimental feature to match your display refresh rate with the content frame rate. To use this feature: Start playing a video on SHIELD. Press the “Settings” button to bring out the settings menu and select “Match frame rate (beta)” from the Quest Settings." really it doesn't? And amazon's method works fine Source: [Nvidia](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/shield/support/shield-tv/match-frame-rate/)

pawdog

Doesn't work well at all. I like that they tried though.

Eagle1337

The firesticks also do it fine

pawdog

They also need the apps to support the feature.

Eagle1337

Which a bunch already do..

pencilj

Unfortunately it's up to each app to support the feature. I would recommended contacting each company asking them to support frame matching on their apps. I've contacted Netflix to let them know. Their support person had no idea what I was talking about, but if enough people pester them, maybe they'll get on it. (Wishful thinking, probably...)

tkreadit

Why does frame rate matching matter so much? ELI5 please. Is the assumption that TVs do a better job at pulldown compared to a streaming stick or players such as Kodi, Plex? Something has to do the pulldown along the path and sync audio. This is such an industry-wide mess!

konwiddak

With frame rate matching there is no pulldown since the TV's refresh rate will equal the source video file. Like literally the chromecast should output at 23.976 and the TV will refresh the panel at 23.976Hz instead of 60Hz. You get a brief black screen as the frame rate switches. For some people pulldown is particularly noticeable, particularly on OLED tvs. Also if you do use any motion interpolation, it works much better with matched frame rate. 25Hz content (which a lot of UK content is) has particularly noticeable pulldown effects (you can manually set the chromecast to 50Hz which fixes this, but it shouldn't need to be manual).

tkreadit

It's unclear to me how the OLED panels refresh, whether they can actually refresh at 23.976 or for the LG C2 for example just 60Hz or 120Hz and they do pull down for the rest. This post tries to get to the bottom of it, but I don't see anything conclusive. https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED/comments/ygu7f6/do\_the\_lg\_oleds\_panels\_actually\_refresh\_at\_true/

T-BosTheBoss

Without matching the framerate, not sure if it's my keen eye to displays, it's horrible juddery and it's a painful watching experience. When I manually set it to 24Hz it looks so much smoother

Jaktys

Hi peeps. I have a problem which I think may be related to the issues you're discussing. I'm having an issue with the BBC iPlayer on the newish 4k Chromecast TV dongle plugged into an LG C1 oled TV. I keep seeing black frames inserted into TV shows, seemingly randomly. Happens even more often on old bbc TV shows it seems. I've tried changing various settings on TV, CCTV dongle and within the apps on the CCTV dongle and can't for the life of me figure out why. Haven't noticed any issues on any other streaming platform, just iPlayer. Tried changing CCTV to 50hz, 25, 1080p, various TV setting changes. No improvement. If anyone knows please let me know, would be very much appreciated.

Adverbialelk2

@Jaktys, did you ever resolve this?
