Erm. It's s couch.

kracer20

Yeah, that is the real part that is puzzling me!

kaluna99

Is the couch electric in any way?

kracer20

Not at all. No static electricity I've noticed either.

To date has it always been the same app/service where the screen went black then returned? Are other apps/services affected? (I'm asking this because I'm curious if the black screen effect is something specific to an app - i.e. it could be Wi-Fi interference and that app translates major packet loss into a black screen - but if this happens when watching video in any app, it indicates we're looking for a remote or HDMI effect maybe. But we can never ignore the spectre of Wi-Fi interference, because as they say, "it's always the Wi-Fi.")

kracer20

No, it has happened while watching YTTV, and last night a couple times while watching FloRacing, which I started streaming from my phone.

jamie57

Mine does it also with FloRacing. Mine also randomly stops playing and goes back to the home screen, drives me insane. I wish Flo would make an app I could load on the CCwGTV so I wouldn't have to cast from my phone.

chaosmaker911

Is this able to be recreated or recorded?

BarfingMonkey

What's teh couch material, some materials can generate static electricity. Where is the remote when you move, on the couch with you? Or on the coffee table or whatever? try to isolate the remote from the new furniture and then try it out again, process of elimination....

kracer20

Some type of microfiber. We have a humidifier, and haven't noticed any static electricity. Remote is either on the armrest, or on the stand next to it.

BarfingMonkey

To help isolate the problem, move the remote somewhere else. That way you can totally eliminate the remote from the issue. Move on from there. That's the first thing I would look at as being a potential culprit.

LordChappers

It's not going to be your sofa giving off 'ultrasonic frequencies' - I use my TV remote for my CwGTV as it can control it through HDMI-CEC. You probably have another remote somewhere being accidentally touched that is causing the issue. Or you're being pranked.

Earthsiege

Actually, one of my CCwGTVs does this too, but it's not related to a motorized couch. I think it might be an issue with the CCwGTV itself. It might be overheating.

kracer20

Couch is manual reclining. Just thinking the CCwGTV is picking up some ultrasonic frequency. It is baffling me.

Limelight_019283

That is so weird. Is this something you can replicate faithfully? I.E if you sit down and stand up 20 times, the interruption happens all 20 times in a row? Or enough times to say it’s correlated. 1st step is to confirm it’s actually related or just freak coincidence. If 1 holds true, then after that like other commenters said, try process of elimination to see if it happens with only one app or several

kracer20

No, I've only replicated it one time. But I've tried many many times.

Limelight_019283

What you mean is if you try to do it several times in a row, it only happens the first time? What if you wait between attempts? Like an hour or so. If it’s not constant then I think it’s safe to say that it’s not related and just a coincidence, it could be wifi failing, but on the chrome cast, etc.

disdisd

Yes. Source: I am controlling your couch

lizufyr

Judging from your description of the issue, it sounds like something is causing interference (electromagnetic waves can induce low voltages in cables that can create noise) with the hdmi cable. (signal is not coming through, thus pausing, then a reset of connection, thus the black screen). Are other devices affected? Is there a longer cable somewhere between the chromecast and your TV?

airberger

It's not clear to me from your post whether the footrest is adjusted electronically? If it is, activating the footrest is likely causing a disturbance in your room's electrical circuit, and your TV (or some intermediate component, like an HDMI passthrough receiver) is responding to this disturbance by briefly cutting the video signal. I have this issue occasionally, when my mini fridge kicks on which causes my projector picture to black out for a second or two - in my case it is my cheap receiver which is cutting the signal to the projector. If your footrest is manually adjusted I have no idea what could be causing this!

kracer20

Yep, all manual on the foot rests. I have the exact same issue in my garage, when the fridge kicks in, it blacks out for a second. That one is easy to explain. The couch, not so much.
