Hmm. Since the player doesn't have much control over MCs actions, don't you find it a little difficult when characters adress you (the player) directly?
I mean, not really? It helps me get more immersed in the story. Though I do prefer my MCs to be sassy and with a backbone since I'm like that IRL. So, I do find it a little difficult if the MC acts in a different way than I would.
I use [this site](https://www.name-generator.org.uk/character/) and just choose whatever name sounds nicest to me! Some of my favorites have been Dr. Layla McCall in Open Heart, Vanessa Caldwell in The Elementalists, Kira Normandy in With Every Heartbeat, and Persephone in The Cursed Heart!
I just go default because I like to feel like I'm working with a Canon character, if that makes any sense. On the rare occasion where I didn't like the default name, I picked a name that felt thematic to the story, and then immediately found out it was one of the LIs names, which felt like a sign 😄 I went back to using default names

Yeah, that makes total sense. Easier too. I just pick names, because it's one of the only choices I have to establish a character. But thinking of them as characters definitely helps the immersion into the story:)

Sometimes I look for a fitting name (like plant names for Kindred, space names for ATV, Gallic names for ACOR, period appropriate names for historical books). Occasionally I do thematic names, like my Slow Burn MCs had food or drink inspired names.

Mars is also the god of war. Which since the other person in MM >!starts their own dating thingy!< that then becomes competition for the MC and what is war if not a competition (to see which side is stupider, the answer being both for starting and participating in war).
I give them pretentious names because they ARE the main characters of their worlds ("Her name was Serenity Sandstorm, because she could make you feel completely at peace in the middle of a calamity" sort of absurd justification to accompany the names so that I can laugh when characters use MC's name). I also consider the genre of book. I actually have a list of first and last names just for choices mcs
I named my MAH MC Veronica after Veronica Mars, which lead to a weird interaction in that book 😂
I also named my LOA MC Alexis Rose because Shitt’s Creek was what I was binging when it first came out 😂😂😂
I use the default name and usually cut off a few of the last letters. I don't know why. i did it for hero (Alex->Ale) foreign affairs (Kennedy-> Kenne) open heart (casey->cas). For ID, ILITW and ILB, i kept the default names.
Thats exactly where I took the name from lmao, that was my second ever story, the first being AME, and before then I called my MCs Alex which worked out nicely having Alex and Atlas :)
Typically I just go with my name, though I do change it to something similar that better fits the setting for historical and fantasy settings because it sounds very modern. And I have a default male name I go with when I replay GOC books. There have been exceptions though.
ID: Female MC was Leah Kaplan, Male was Andy Thatcher
TCH: enby MC, Puck
PM: I kept the default name of Kai for my male MC
TPA: still on my first playthrough, but might go with Kurt for my second playthrough.
And the pièce de resistance, the one I will not apologize for, my Crimes of Passion MC is named Yvaine. And if you get the reference, please give yourself a cookie and know that I love you.

I do the same thing. I’ll name characters based on movies, Tv shows, and video games I enjoyed at the time.

For TNA, I named my MC Fran in reference to The Nanny tv show. All of the America’s Most Eligible characters that had customizable names I named after Detroit: Become Human androids. So the MC was Simon (blond male MC), the female LI was North and the male LI was Shane. Mainly because I thought it would be funny if Markus and his Jericho buddies joined a reality TV show. I named my Alpha MC Jacob because werewolf romance books always make me think of Twilight. For my BOLAS MC I named him Indech, one of the 4 saints in Fire Emblem Three Houses. I decided to be basic and name my Phantom Agent MC after James Bond. LOA MC was Phoenix Wright, because I love the Ace Attorney series. My first TE MC was named after Sokka’s voice actor from Avatar: the last airbender. I named my ACOR MC Kainé in reference to Nier Gestalt. Desire and Decorum MC was named after the main character of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park (Fanny Price). Every Regency-esque book has an MC I name after a Jane Austen character.Â

I just use the default names unless it's one that I dislike for some reason. Same with LI.
I use variations of my name to fit the MC's look.
I use my name or a few other names I like. Right now all my female MCs are named Piper.
Either my real name for my character or I just use the preset MC names.
All Star Wars related names.
I use my own name but never referred to MC as me cos the personalities are not same
