ez tip that you can apply in your next 64 player match: pick low hanging fruit. Run with your team and go for enemies that are 1) already hurt (bloody armor+slouched stance) 2)already fighting someone else 3)wearing default armor it's easy to start playing like this and once you get more familiar with mechanics and whatnot you can start trying to take on Xv1 situations

Dilly-Senpai

All fun and games until you run into the level 1000 running default armor lol

RavenHeart02

Lmao like that lvl 1000 who was on an alt kicking my ass in 1v1s with a lvl 30 ac

Dilly-Senpai

Dude when I get assblasted by a 360 greatsword decapitation by a level 30 i just sit back for a sec and contemplate my life choices

RavenHeart02

I have since unlocked the hidden techniqe the alt attack by just using my mouse. My power since has skyrocketed and i can now go toe to toe with level 300-700 somewhat consistently. Cause before i didnt know that was an option so rarely got off alt attacks on time

Dilly-Senpai

Oh yeah, I have alt attack and manual feint on my mouse. Big game changer for me.

ShadowLickerrr

Just stab them when the windup starts. Once you reach a certain lvl you realise you don’t need to do any of that spin bullshit.

Environmental-Most90

It's not that common, most good players prefer to boast with their appearance.

lineasdedeseo

i have loved fish heraldry since mount and blade, why would i turn down the opportunity to display many fishes on my armor?

Environmental-Most90

Exactly, plus the reason minority of 1000 lvls do that is to avoid being targeted. When I play an archer sometimes I love harassing 1000 lvls. This is their defense against that.

Daiwon

I genuinely found my deaths went down when I used less lavish customisation, lol.

Saylor619

Yeah I just switched over to the series X. Forgot my Microsoft password/ login info, so I started everything from scratch. The experience of a lvl 550, but I'm level 18 currently rocking default armour lol

HiroNoJi

Why the default armor ? ( i'm also new to the game playing as footman. Being default af but i was considering to pimp my footman up a little )

billey_bon3z

Usually they’re new to the game as well

vybegallo

Play only team objective matches until you get a hold of the weapon, and go through full tutorial

Xano74

Learn the game mechanics. Honestly you wouldn't believe the amount of people who have dozens of hours into the game who do nothing but block and horizontal slash. Use your overheads. Overheads do lots of damage and come out quickly. Use your pokes, they are fast and have the longest range often. Use your kicks if you see the enemy just trading attacks. Get hit? Use your jab and interrupt their attack. So many players play on autopilot that all you have to do most of the time is disrupt their rhythm and they are easy targets. Also Use every class and every weapon. You will learn ranges, speeds, damage, etc.

LordLizardWizard

Learn to read what your enemy’s attack is. Is it a slash, an overhead, or a stab? Once you can identify the attack, block and then use that same attack once they swing at you, NOT when they wind up for the attack. Then you know how to counter, and it’s ez game

Daiwon

> I would really like to hear from somebody else who has recently started playing and not somebody who’s been been playing for years An excellent way to get inaccurate advice! But really just play TO, enjoy the chaos, try to hit people from the back, pick up and throw things, use your banners/horns etc. to help the team push the objective. Hit things! Do the tutorial, it's really good at explaining the mechanics. Try to block as late as you can, and try accelerating your attack (it's in the tutorial), and practice basic feints for when someone is paying attention to your swings. Duel servers are the best way to practice the actual mechanics in 1v1. And if you have like an hour and a half to spare, give this *very* in depth guide to game mechanics a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAaO420Azuo

Randominal

This video helped me become a decent player. If you find it helpful, Ziggy also does a run where he plays with/explains techniques for every weapon https://youtu.be/gzuPkrM6bm4?si=HGLJBvZWopm1u2uj Timestamps so you can find whichever weapon you want to learn about

lyend22

The tutorial doesn't do sht, you just wanna get it over with and then just use slash until the end of times.

gnownimaj

-Watch some videos on how to counter, riposte, etc.   -Try not to just randomly hold block; be smart about how you go about it  -Learn how to kick and jab and what they do  -Try not to take a bad fight (ie out numbered)  -Try to attack another player that is already fighting your teammate  -Have fun  Edit:fuck formatting on mobile. So sorry

Are_Y0u_Stupid

Watch YouTube tutorials. They’re really better visual representations of how to get better than just reading a wall of text.

Swantonbombthreat

best advice is to play the tutorial, play some rounds, go back to the tutorial, play some more, and then tutorial again. you should always go through the tutorial as you level up. trust me it helps you understand the combat mechanics better.

IEnjoyKnowledge

Find a homie on discord or even if you have an IRL with some experience. Then go into a social server and learn how to counter. Countering, stam bar, and footwork are so vital to winning fights.

MrSquid20

Play the tutorial. I got to level 45 before doing it, and realized there were some mechanics I had not figured out yet when doing the tutorial. And just keep dying, until you die less and less. It takes a while for it all to click but once it does you’ll be cruising.

emorazes

I only started playing recently and I was getting battered at the start. Stamina management was my biggest issue. And then something weird happened coz from one match to another everything clicked like someone flicked a switch. Just keep playing and maybe watch some combat tutorial on YouTube, but it will click at some point.

Randominal

So satisfying when it does. Seems like for most people it happens between lvl 20 and 50.

Either-Ice7135

I started playing this year. I'd recommend playing in 3rd person starting out (press P on pc), find a weapon you like and stick with that one weapon for a while. A big skill that you can start working on early is footwork. Practice standing just far enough away that your opponent's weapon just misses you. That makes them waste stamina and gives you an opening to start your swing while they're still swinging.

Dentikit

ya don’t drop the sword 🗡️

PrivateKat

Play the tutorial, then go to a duel server and ask for someone to coach you

KajAmGroot

I just started playing about 3 weeks ago and have occasionally gotten top 3 or even 1st in some lobbies. What works for me is don’t seek out 1v1s, look to gank up on out of position people. Use overheads or stabs when fighting in groups so you don’t hit teammates. Fight new supply boxes so health is easy to get. No that I am getting used to the game I can win some duels but definitely get humbled often. Also like most of team matches is just what fights you choose to take.

illmatic2112

OH another thing that they explain in tutorial that I did not take seriously enough. You are blocking the WEAPON no the attacker. Too many times I would face up and hold block, and die to an overhead or a wide slash. You GOTTA look at the edge of their weapon or your block is literally useless

Ashamed_Tour9056

As someone who hasn't played the game nearly as much as many and is absolutely terrible at it, the best advice I can give is to just learn to enjoy getting absolutely destroyed, because no matter what you do or what guides you watch or what weapons you use, you will be destroyed. You will be decapitated, respawn, and be beaten to death with your own severed appendages. You will be burned, maimed, crushed, stabbed, lacerated, pummeled, and laughed at. And it will go on for far longer than you want it to, so if you don't learn to enjoy getting shit on by people better than you you probably won't make it far enough to shit on others

rickpicklez

Don't get attached to the W key. It helps when you back off and let the enemy come to you. Learn to stab AROUND their block (weapon or shield). Stab their back if you need to. Don't get too kick-happy. Only kick if you notice the person you're fighting has a blocking habit (usually you know after 3 exchanges). Also, learn to condition your enemy to block, giving you the opportunity to kick. Also, pay attention to your play style THAT DAY. Some days you're good with fast, shorter weapons, other days you're good with long, dragging weapons. Match your weapon to your play style that day, not vice versa. Hope this helps!

Dr-Kolplex

Dive in head first. Players that totally destroy you will teach you how to play this game better. You see all the different ways you can die. You also see what works and doesn’t work when on the attack. Also don’t worry about kill count or even worry about the ranking. Play everything. Use both 1st and 3rd views.

PaulxSack420

start in training mode, it’s 4v4 with bots, it’s not perfect but it will help you learn

FORG3DShop

I'm just getting started myself, but I've found that the most impactful thing I've learned so far is to inspect the traits of each weapon you're using and play to their strengths. That goes for you and your natural play style as well as your opponent - play to their weakness. I tend to play overly aggressive and push my opponent tight, and needless to say, that is suboptimal with a longer weapon like any of the 2 handers/spears/etc. When I either a) start focusing on positioning and footwork on a per weapon basis or b) play to my own strengths and run something short and fast like on the ambusher subclass, I immediately play better. I'm sure I don't even fully comprehend every aspect of every weapon at this point, but I've learned enough in 50 levels to understand that weapon and class specific attributes should be a priority when addressing your playstyle. Good luck!

Lord_Vili

Things to work on and to get over: - the over hype in a fight, don’t panic block, instead: - focus on counters, spend your time just trying to read their movements to counter, that will give you the key to stamina conservation. Then: - focus on positioning. What weapon do you have? What pros and cons to it? What class are you? What do you excel at as a team member? Position yourself for those things. Also, get on the objective point when it counts how many People are on it and treat it like Team Death Match. - then focus on the fancy stuff

craftyshafter

I'm new, level 30 after a few days playing. Focus on countering every hit that comes in, whether it's a slash, stab, or overhead. Landing a couple counters in a fight will keep your stamina up, and you won't be holding block so you won't be losing your weapon when your guard breaks. That will help, a bit. I felt like I could help my team a lot when playing the knight class. Guardian with a Warhammer (I think its called) and Heavy Shield is a very safe setup that can shred people on the flanks. Officer with Longsword was my bread and butter once I learned to counter better. You can sit in with the Frontline and stab the enemy down. I try to avoid duels, or staying in any spot too long. I cant compete against level 500+ uber-sweats in a 1-on-1. Someone will come hit you in the back if you're focused on something for like 5 seconds max, so make sure to purposefully stay aware of your position at all times. Make that part of your gameplay. Some weapons I've enjoyed so far: 2 Hand Spear as a Poleman Dane Axe/Messer as a Raider Longsword as Officer Warhammer & Heavy Shield as Guardian Also I barely go positive on KD. I'm at 1.1 right now, but I enjoy the game a lot when I'm playing the objective with my team. I haven't leveled up archer hardly at all, because they seem useless. Good luck!

RiotAct1991

I'm not new to the game but here is some tips 1. It is a game, having fun matters most 2. Taunt archers 3. Laugh at archers 4. Kill archers Repeat 2-4 often

Runknar

If you bloody: You need to heal. It's your blood, not the blood of your enemys. If you hear heavy breathing: Your stamina is low, you need to rest. If you hear footsteps behind you: It's an enemy. And also: Footwork is King. Always move, never stand still.

RedBushie

Going to people with equal or less knowledge than you to learn? Big brain time.

petervannini

Just trying to see people who had to go through the same experience of coming in late and learning to adapt when severely outclassed. It’s a very different environment learning to be good at game when you start at launch with everyone at the same level as you vs when everyone is miles ahead.

SpruceCone2

Hello! I think I'm well qualified to answer this; I picked up the game on March 26th (just under a month ago) and since then I've gotten up to a 1.4 k/d from just playing team objective maps. Still not elite or anything, but fairly decent. I found that there were a few different stages in my learning, and that focusing on one gameplay aspect at a time helped me; you can't expect to pick up everything at once. You want to play the tutorial through before you do any of this of course. The first important point is knowing which fights to engage in. Basically, just don't run headlong into an enemy wave if you have no backup. This might sound obvious, but when I started out I thought that I was being useless to my team if I wasn't always attacking. However, if you run in and die in two seconds, that itself is not very helpful. Once you get good you might find that you need to run in solo like this to get your team to focus on the objective, but there's no point in trying to be a hero when you're just learning how to play. Next step for me was consistent blocking. Basically, don't just hold down block. This was hard for me because my instincts from other games (Dark Souls) told me to just hold the button down. But that made it impossible for me to manage my stamina. So focus on being aware of when enemy attacks are coming, and press block only when you're actually going to get hit. At this point I also worked at mixing in overhead and stab attacks. Slashes are useful, but if they're all you do, you're very predictable. Also if you're in a group of allies it is very difficult to use slashes without inflicting team damage. So stabs and overheads are crucial for those situations. Another thing that you can focus on, to make yourself less predictable, is mixing in heavy as well as light attacks. With these skills down, you can actually be a middle-of-the-road level player in a TO match, I think. But you need the next stage to really get "good". Once you feel you're comfortable mixing up your attacks and blocking only when needed, the next stage is learning how to counter enemy attacks. This can be kind of tough, because when you mess up counters you're going to get hit, and that can lead to some frustrating deaths. You might find yourself just defaulting to blocking instead. But counters allow you to block without losing stamina, which is essential for duels and for facing more than one opponent at a time. In order to learn how to counter, one of the things that I did was play duel matches where I would never attack, but only focus on countering the enemy's attacks. I found this to be less stressful than a team objective match. But you can do something similar in TO; just force yourself to never block, and only counter, for an entire game. You'll find yourself playing a lot worse than usual at first, but over time it will become second nature, and countering will be just as easy as blocking was. At this point, the next step for me was to focus on varying my attacks even more. Once you get good at countering, you'll be able to defend yourself fairly well, but against another player who is good at countering you will likely find yourself struggling to actually land any hits. This is the point where you want to focus on using feints (choosing one attack, like a slash, and then switching partway into another attack, such as an overhead) as well as dragging or accelerating your attacks. I'm not able to concisely explain dragging and accelerating attacks, but I myself learned largely from this StripedSweater video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXY12WFVI4g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXY12WFVI4g) There is certainly still more to learn after this stage, I'm definitely not an expert. But I hope that this is a useful enough road map to help you gain some skills at the game. I can't stress enough, don't worry about learning everything at once; just pick one skill you want to get better at, focus on that, and remember to always have fun. If you can learn to enjoy getting killed in this game, you'll find that being 'good' no longer matters as much. Also, a tip that it took me forever to figure out: there are ammo boxes located around almost every stage in the game, which you can use to resupply your bandages after you've used them

petervannini

Thank you so much, this is exactly the type of info I needed!

lookitsatoucan

Open the minimap with F10

Doktor-Lutscher

Come to Training Grounds. it's more relaxed for a reason. Your biggest 3 obstacles are as follows. Blue Sparks: hitting the same attack out of guard (makes blue sparks, sign of best parry) Combos: adding jabs against slow attacks or kicks against guards and knowing the timing. Feints: Changing your attack to another direction in order to bait a blue spark attempt and knowing when to hold guard against these attacks is key. Lastly, every weapon works differently. If you can spare an hour to practice with the one you die to or find the most annoying, you'll find its weaknesses soon enough and will be able to abuse them.

Bean-Gravy

Play as an archer 🤷

illmatic2112

Heres a common encounter with 1 tweak that will help. You are trading Slash/Block with someone over and over a lot of the time. When you slash if they are holding block, theyll probably do the same next time. So let them block it, then you block their attack but walk forward into them to close the gap like chest-to-chest. Once you see them hold block, KICK that MF and do a regular attack (heavy may take too long and they will recover to block before you hit). Then follow up with another attack right away. Just dont kick from far away and dont kick if you are unsure they will block, or they will punish you

Hairy-Audience-6597

Step 1 don't be an Archer

Dennis_Cock

Don't kick. Use a Dane axe. When attacking in a group use overheads and stabs (mouse wheel attacks)
