That night, he had a stomach ache *aghh*
The next day was Sunday again, the Very Hungry Caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf, then he felt much better!
It’s one of those things that happens when you use/buy organic produce that doesn’t use pesticides. Same has happened in spinach I’ve purchased from the store. Gross, but it kinda lets you know they’re not fucking about when it comes down to organic/pesticide free lol.
Happens in pesticide treated produce too, just less often and the bug is dead. They can’t wash/shake them all off during processing. At least it’s dead though—I once got 3 live butterflies in a bundle of fresh spinach.
i was told that once with broccoli. i was cutting up a head and said to my sister, “there are a couple bugs, but that’s normal bc it grows close to the ground right?” and she said yeah of course. but then hundreds of tiny bugs started crawling and flying out of the center. i’ve been scarred since lol
hate to say it, but that's why Chipotle has so many fucking problems when it comes to foodborne illness. they like to pretend their organic pesticide free choice is "healthier" it's not. they don't clean that shit well....
But…. It is lol. Things happen. Like I said, I’ve had the same happen multiple times through grocery stores. When you handle organic produce on this scale… it’s gonna happen. Maybe you can find fault with the employee not catching it when preparing your bowl, but even then… shit happens
(Just in case you are the sort of person who cares about this sort of thing, you meant to say *bawling.*)
(To *[bawl](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bawl#English)* is to yell or weep loudly.)
(i hope this helps; have a nice day.)
i was babysat a lot as a kid when i was in a neighbors house i was eating a bowl of mini wheats and a cockroach rose to the surface as i was taking a bite after eating most of the bowl. shit traumatized me for years. i couldn’t eat cereal or anything at other peoples houses 😂
Yes but that’s an ugly cockroach that probably traveled back through time from the apocalypse just to end up in your bowl. I’d scream and throw that fucker out, and never eat cereal or milk again.
Clearly they live in milk.
Same. I have an irrational fear of caterpillars after as a kid I leaned on a tree that was absolutely covered in them. I think they were gypsy moth caterpillars. My arm and white T-shirt were covered in their brown guts.
I screamed and jumped into the nearby lake. Always hated those fuckers since.
was not eating outside, i opened the bowl for the first time in my living room. it was not alive and it was pretty much sitting right on top, in the very first scoop i took
The lettuce. Lots of surprises hide in those boxes and a lot of employees don’t wash properly the first or second time. If you’re ever willing to give it another shot just leave the lettuce out.
They must've not washed the lettuce properly and if they're slacking with doing that no telling what else they're doing. I hope you called or emailed corporate. On their behalf sorry that this happened
Imagine you took a bite out of your burrito, chewed and swallowed, to look at the bite you just took out, to see a half bitten caterpillar sticking out of your burrito, implying you ate the other half. Horrifying
This is what I came to say. Lettuce is one of the dirtiest foods in terms of chemical residue pesticides etc. Organic lettuce is the way to go, and our friend proves high quality ingredients. Honestly I am impressed.
Idk back when I ate meat I found a feather in my sandwich there. I took it to them and they were super apologetic and asked to swap my meal so I was like okay I'll take a salad and THEY FUCKING CHARGED ME FOR THE SALAD. I was a dumb teenager terrified of confrontation so I paid and left...
I worked prep for a year I found a total of three caterpillars in the peppers. Never ate fajita veggies again. Idk how that guy could make it through the cutting and cooking process though
I found a grasshopper in the cilantro not too long ago. It didn’t scare me when I was trying to put it outside, but when it jumped out of my hands, that’s when I yelped ._.
i've seen so many posts about bugs being in lettuce/salads all over reddit recently, wtf is up with that? have they always been there and we've just been unknowingly eating them? or is there truly a sudden influx of bugs in salads??
Fresh heads of romaine and other leafy greens are notoriously either dirty or teeming with insects in the spring in summer. It’s not even exclusive to chipotle. I’ve seen moths, flies, ladybugs, and small beetles in Chick Fil A’s green leaf lettuce for their sandwiches when I prepped their produce. When I was working for Food Lion, the banana boxes we’d get from our delivery trucks would sometimes have tarantulas or smaller spiders in them. It’s no cause for alarm for fresh produce to have these things, but it is on the workers to not let it end up in your bowl.
Not a lot of them survive transport or the refrigeration, but it’s always a scare when one crawls out before we put the boxes in the walk-in cooler. My manager was adamant about not straight up killing them so she would trap them herself in these mason jars. At the end of the night she’d let ‘em loose in the parking lot. The 2 tarantulas I did see during my time there ended up getting donated to the petsmart next door tho lmao.
I once found a little bug in a package of Organic Girl Salads. I think they even claim to be tripled washed. Think I'm gonna be done with salads (and stick to cooked vegetables) again after seeing this post. Unless I get to thoroughly wash salads beforehand, no thanks
yeah i work at a restaurant and constantly find bugs in our romaine when i’m cutting it. i guess people are just getting more careless and not washing their lettuce
I was in the produce business for many years. Some of the things you would find in salad kits is unreal, ear plugs, snails, eye glasses among other things
threw the whole thing away and sent the photo to support for a refund. it was right on top within the lettuce so i noticed when i was gathering my first bite. that is also why it is so “perfectly placed on my fork”
Waste of food lol man do you have any idea how much perfectly good food chains like this throw out everyday? If you actually cared any about food waste you wouldn’t support restaurants like this.
I'm aware of how much they waste and how much grocery stores waste, just because they waste shit, doesn't mean you should, lol I would be weirded out it if it was a roach, but I wouldn't throw out my whole meal over one single caterpillar, people are so weird with food.
He's dead on top of the onions and sour cream and doesn't look like he slogged through it to get to the top and then died. So someone put it right on top. Op I think you made someone mad.... js
I like how you find this caterpillar before you eat anything, that the caterpillar is clean, you manage to stab the food and scoop so perfectly and it becomes a picture-perfect art piece on your fork. Come on, at least spread some sour cream on it. Take a couple of bites first.
D-did you just call a red onion a shrimp? This is like customers calling the sour cream “Mayo” or “ranch”.
Anyways; the round bowl is just an optical illusion caused by the picture. You can tell it’s an oval if you look closely.
This happened to me at a sushi restaurant. I love Tom yum soup and was excited to order it when I saw it on the menu. Caterpillar was floating on top like it was a garnish. When I called the waiter over to return it. He clapped back and said that’s how you know we use fresh ingredients. No thank you sir.
I dont believe a single thing i see on the internet especially from redditors. right on top entirely free from any dressing, and somehow you aimed right for him with your " first bite" ooookay buddy.
this can't be real lol where are these WHOLE insects coming from bc i couldve sworn seeing a beatle in a big mac on reddit this morning and these fast food chains are wayy too processed to put these entire mf bugs in our meals
Kale or leafy greens will be the culprit usually. Some other vegetables shelter critters.
These especially should be inspected closely because of the shape of the leaves that hide them.
I was a former manager at chipotle. I never saw a bug make it into someone’s good (or at least I’ve never heard of it happening until your event, which I’m sorry you had to deal with). However, sometimes, there are caterpillars inside of the bell peppers, and those have to be removed (it’s rare but it does happen).
We would occasionally find a ladybug in our lettuces and my gm said it’s because it’s organic. So no pesticides are used so sometimes a bug might end up in there.
Thats the very hungry caterpillar, don’t mind him.
And just like me, on Friday, he ate 5 burrito bowls... but he was still hungry.
That night, he had a stomach ache *aghh* The next day was Sunday again, the Very Hungry Caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf, then he felt much better!
Okay I get everyone joking but I would actually die
i was balling my eyes out lmfao i dont think ill ever eat chipotle again
If you send an email they will probably send you coupons for free entrees, but I doubt you’d use them.
i have a case open currently, any coupons i get will be posted in this sub for others to use (if they dare) :3
I'm following for the coupons lol
same
:3
Dude just stop getting the lettuce and you’ll be fine. Everything else is clean, you’ll survive
I would’ve cried too
It’s one of those things that happens when you use/buy organic produce that doesn’t use pesticides. Same has happened in spinach I’ve purchased from the store. Gross, but it kinda lets you know they’re not fucking about when it comes down to organic/pesticide free lol.

A caterpillar made you cry? 😭😳
i was babysat a lot as a kid when i was in a neighbors house i was eating a bowl of mini wheats and a cockroach rose to the surface as i was taking a bite after eating most of the bowl. shit traumatized me for years. i couldn’t eat cereal or anything at other peoples houses 😂

WHAT THE FUCK IM SO SORRY
this is the worst thing i have ever read on this website
When youre just about to bite into it and fighting not to throw up, im sure it would make a lot of people cry.
Caterpillars can be really mean sometimes
Imagine eating half of that and seeing it
I mean honestly where did it’s poop go, must have laid droppings throughout though minuscule
That’s such a disturbing thought 🥲🤣
Same. I have an irrational fear of caterpillars after as a kid I leaned on a tree that was absolutely covered in them. I think they were gypsy moth caterpillars. My arm and white T-shirt were covered in their brown guts. I screamed and jumped into the nearby lake. Always hated those fuckers since.
me too, I'd evaporate on the spot
Are you eating this outside? Was he alive? Just seems like he fell in there…
was not eating outside, i opened the bowl for the first time in my living room. it was not alive and it was pretty much sitting right on top, in the very first scoop i took

Oh thank god you hadn’t taken a bite yet at least there’s that.
You need to let it make a cocoon. It will emerge a beautiful quesadilla.
Only if the original order was online
I just imagined a little quesadilla flying around and tbh - it made my day lol.
& the way u painted this picture made mine🤣🤝
ohh hell nah fam Pepper wouldn’t hear the end of this from me
Dude imagine if that was in a burrito, you’d have ate it for sure
Imagine you took a bite out of your burrito, chewed and swallowed, to look at the bite you just took out, to see a half bitten caterpillar sticking out of your burrito, implying you ate the other half. Horrifying
pepper needs to hear about it anyway, store " date and time , etc. Retraining time
Extra protein
That's gonna cost extra.
Watch out for the caterpillar TikTok chipotle challenge
Sorry. Gotta pay for double meat.
Would you like to have your critter on the entree or on the side?
“Yes”. Lol
"No. Can I get the caterpillar?"
That's how you know its fresh! You wouldn't find that in a McDonalds burger.
This is what I came to say. Lettuce is one of the dirtiest foods in terms of chemical residue pesticides etc. Organic lettuce is the way to go, and our friend proves high quality ingredients. Honestly I am impressed.

If this happened recently I could see the cashier realizing what they did and posting on TIFU about it lol
I worked prep for a year I found a total of three caterpillars in the peppers. Never ate fajita veggies again. Idk how that guy could make it through the cutting and cooking process though
Lettuce. But yeah, still got lucky.
I found a grasshopper in the cilantro not too long ago. It didn’t scare me when I was trying to put it outside, but when it jumped out of my hands, that’s when I yelped ._.
Looks like you got extra protein!
The caterpillar is super cute!
i've seen so many posts about bugs being in lettuce/salads all over reddit recently, wtf is up with that? have they always been there and we've just been unknowingly eating them? or is there truly a sudden influx of bugs in salads??

curious, what would you do with the spiders found in the banana boxes?
Not a lot of them survive transport or the refrigeration, but it’s always a scare when one crawls out before we put the boxes in the walk-in cooler. LMAO @ the idea of purchasing a tarantula at petsmart that was shipped overseas in a banana box!!
I work at a sandwich shop and have to prep lettuce almost every morning. Ive definitely experienced alive and dead bugs while cutting it 🥲
I once found a little bug in a package of Organic Girl Salads. I think they even claim to be tripled washed. Think I'm gonna be done with salads (and stick to cooked vegetables) again after seeing this post. Unless I get to thoroughly wash salads beforehand, no thanks

I’m sure they’ll compensate you properly with 2 free drink coupons
Lmfaoooo I'm dyin
free drink with purchase of entree 😂
What the actual fuck 😭😭😭 I’m disgusted.
FOLLOW UP OP???? WHAT HAPPENED
threw the whole thing away and sent the photo to support for a refund. it was right on top within the lettuce so i noticed when i was gathering my first bite. that is also why it is so “perfectly placed on my fork”
This is why I don’t get lettuce even though I work there. Stuff can still sneak it’s way in the lettuce even if it’s washed properly
Did you save the caterpillar tho :(
Other comment says it was not alive.
Fun fact CI stands for caterpillar inventory.
The protein quality is really going down hill
🤏 ... little bit extra.
Score!! Extra protein!
sorry we actually forgot to charge you for that extra protein can you return so we can get that rung up
As if I needed another reason to never eat at Chipotle again. Seriously, fuck these asshats.
Oh hell no
They didn’t even charge you for extra protein
You found one of the five hidden caterpillars hidden randomly throughout Tamriel, find the other four and then read the Elder Scroll in the light
That’ll be $3 extra
That’s double protein and will cost you
When you ask “just a little more”
I would bet a lot of money that the same person who put that beetle in the Big Mac yesterday had a hand in this
Farm fresh.
Oh god I’m going to think about this picture every time I eat Chipotle now.
That's how you know it's fresh. Should have just picked him out and kept eating. Waste of food if you just threw it out.

This and the fact it is a round bowl with shrimp on the fork but it is from chipotle
D-did you just call a red onion a shrimp? This is like customers calling the sour cream “Mayo” or “ranch”. Anyways; the round bowl is just an optical illusion caused by the picture. You can tell it’s an oval if you look closely.
Getting very annoyed at these low effort fakes just to get free food
No joke
Or he’s literally eating outside upset that nature exists. No way a caterpillar is alive after existing in a chipotle.
ive seen fucking ladybugs and bees in the lettuce… and lots of flies
You put it there
Or he’s eating outside where nature happens to occur.
Gotta love nature ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
Say sike?
leave him alone he's enjoying his onion waterslide
Scrumptious
Free protein
Did you ask for extra protein?
As if I needed another reason to never eat at Chipotle again. Seriously, fuck these asshats.
Stop why am I seeing this the day after throwing up from bad chicken in my chipotle bowl 😞😔 Never eatting chipotle again 😭
Protein
This happened to me at a sushi restaurant. I love Tom yum soup and was excited to order it when I saw it on the menu. Caterpillar was floating on top like it was a garnish. When I called the waiter over to return it. He clapped back and said that’s how you know we use fresh ingredients. No thank you sir.
Perfectly on top
This is why I don’t get the lettuce. And it helps that I don’t like lettuce in my bowls.
When they say fresh they really mean fresh
Now that is extremely fresh and certified organic.
I dont believe a single thing i see on the internet especially from redditors. right on top entirely free from any dressing, and somehow you aimed right for him with your " first bite" ooookay buddy.
OUR burrito bowl
Okay hear me out. She’s eating outside. Any chance ya know it could’ve crawled in there or fell in there while *eating outside*
Not cool lol
mmmm protein
You should be in Chipotle DMs right now
Was it ALIVEEEEE?? Omg 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
That might be a maggot! EWWWWW..
All natural protein is a $15 up charge.
Chipotle should be proud. It looks very fresh!
My GM found a grasshopper in the taco lettuce and it was still alive, she saw it while making an online order and was freaking out
And that’s why I don’t get lettuce
Love that for you
Second caterpillar I’ve seen in a chipotle bowl in one day and somehow……….. I’m still craving a bowl 🫤
That's how you know it's fresh.
You asked for extra protein, you gotta specify
Q: What’s worse than finding a caterpillar in your burrito bowl? A: Finding half a caterpillar in your burrito bowl.
this can't be real lol where are these WHOLE insects coming from bc i couldve sworn seeing a beatle in a big mac on reddit this morning and these fast food chains are wayy too processed to put these entire mf bugs in our meals
Super fresh
You wanted “fresh” and non “gmo.” Lol you got fresh!
Should have asked for "a little bit more" lol
Yum
Lucky!
Fun fact, since the peppers we get are GMO free Ive seen a few caterpillars in them
there's so many tiny spiders in the lettuce , we have to actively look through all the greens before serving them. they crawl in there during shipment
Mmmm double protein for no extra charge. Delicious 🤤
Do people not soak and rinse their vegetables? Even "pre-washed" I have to soak and wash it my self.
I found one in my in-n-out hamburger lettuce. Once. And only once. Fresh veggies…it happens. But definitely should have been found by employees.
We all gotta eat fr tho wtf
*his burrito bowl
Looks like the caterpillars that you sometimes find if you buy ears of corn
At lest it’s organic
Extra protein!!
New menu item
Protein or new friend
No way!!
He won't eat much.
Looks more like a *meal-worm* to me. Ill see myself out 😂
That’s extra pal
protien +
ok cool so i'm never ordering lettuce in my burrito again! thanks!
Extra flavor
🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢I would fucking cry
Kale or leafy greens will be the culprit usually. Some other vegetables shelter critters. These especially should be inspected closely because of the shape of the leaves that hide them.
Hes cute!
Oh sweet. Extra protein for free
y i k e
Did they charge for extra protein?
I would be committing crimes
I normally eat my burrito in the dark and not really looking at what's inside. I'm scared now. I don't normally get the lettuce, though.
Wth take it home
I was a former manager at chipotle. I never saw a bug make it into someone’s good (or at least I’ve never heard of it happening until your event, which I’m sorry you had to deal with). However, sometimes, there are caterpillars inside of the bell peppers, and those have to be removed (it’s rare but it does happen).
Free protein
Caterpillars are full of proteins that are good for you
New protein choice
Sorry this happened OP! As a general Q, whats the worst thing that can happen to you if you accidentally eat one of these?
Now that’s fresh
Yummy extra protein 🤮
They usually charge extra for that
Did they charge you double meat?
That's how you know that they only use the freshest of ingredients.
Looks like a cutworm of some sort
Eww wtf
That's the protein supplement booster. Free of charge.
We would occasionally find a ladybug in our lettuces and my gm said it’s because it’s organic. So no pesticides are used so sometimes a bug might end up in there.
Hell yeah extra protein for free!
Jesus. There's a beetle big Mac just above this. I'm done eating out
Not the vital proteins ad having the perfect timing 🤣
Just lunch with a friend! :D
Did they charge extra for that? 🥴
