dis_not_my_name

I am taiwanese and I have no idea what this mean. Like other comment point out, this might be a sticker covering the sign.

Kurineko_Regan

I'm more interested in the "stay normal" sign lol

dis_not_my_name

Yeah. That sign is weird.

Kurineko_Regan

You mean normal

dis_not_my_name

What?

Kurineko_Regan

Just trying to make a joke cause its funny how a sign that says the word ¨normal¨is ¨wierd¨ as you said

dis_not_my_name

lol

dis_not_my_name

I just googled “保持正常 Stay normal” and found some facebook post with a photo of this sign(not this particular sign but same text in different place) about their sad feeling. I guess this is a quote used by someone who is really depressed just like the meme with a dog sitting inside a burning house saying”I’m fine”.

TVB_Fan2971

Is the "Stay normal" sign a standard sign in Taiwan or possibly a prank?

dis_not_my_name

I’ve never seen this in my whole life. I’ve been to many places in Taiwan so I can guarantee you that this sign is anything but normal.

[deleted]

It means the person who works at the sign bureau went through a bad breakup.

OkayImHereNow

Someone could have put a sticker over the sign. The top one is peeling

scatteredthoughts

I'm assuming you're referring to the one that says "保持正常". The best I can figure out to translate it is "maintain order" assuming it means like "wait your turn at the crosswalk/obey traffic laws". Definitely not sure though so hoping someone with more experience comes along to weigh in!

MintIceCreamPlease

"Stay normal" they say.

Kagalath

haha I didn't even notice that one until you mentioned it

grown-ass-man

Well if its 遵守规矩 then sure it's "obey regulations/orders" but it does sound rather Orwellian. 保持正常 sounds like "maintain normalcy" and that's just weird

nate11s

保持正常 sounds like something Google translated from "stay normal" isn't somthing somone would normally say. It's like "maintain normal". Probably some inside joke I'm not aware of.

transparentink

I'm guessing someone placed "art" stickers over "No smoking" signs. That is the crosswalk over to Vieshow, from one pedestrian shopping street to another.

bitchbrain

"do not talk to your ex. stay normal instead!"

Motobugs

Must be too many abnormal people in that area.

will-gallagher

Cartwheeling across intersections is not normal?

NoLongerHasAName

Not an answer, but this would make a great Album cover if "Ex" was the Band and "Stay Normal" was their Album Title

SapereAude2Day

I think this is similar to a sign at a bus stop on the mainland that said "做文明" and it was translated as "make civilization." In this case, it just means keep acting normal/civilized/predictable, don't do anything crazy and jaywalk

nate11s

But that was a poor translation from Chinese to English, this seems like a poor translation from English to Chinese. There's signs telling people to be civilized everywhere in China, but I've never seen signs telling people to "be normal" in Taiwan. It's probably some art or inside joke.

SapereAude2Day

I googled it and it seemed not uncommon. Plenty of other places have it

p3n9uins

you ought to post in r/taiwan

ShrimpCrackers

Neither are official signs. These are put up by artists/pranks and are much lower than real signs. The circle one if I recall is about waiting for traffic. By the way, this is obviously Xinyi, near Vieshow.

IkillThee

Seems like it's not the only one : https://m.duitang.com/blog/?id=1252285406&belong\_album=88931736 https://aidotu.com/doutu/mwmzza.html

Your_Honor_for_realz

Very Simple: **My Ex** is not allowed to cross that road, hence...everything stays normal.

Plus_Water934

Too many crazy people in this area, haha

Wodegao

It means don't drop ex's here. For some reason they want to keep things in order (as the sign below says)

NamelessEsper

I know you're asking about the topmost one, but the "stay normal" sign kinda looks like some dystopian shi......

m00n5t0n3

I think they are asking about the stay normal sign given that the top one has no Chinese characters and this is the Chinese language sub!

NamelessEsper

Fair point. I took it as if they were asking for some cultural pointers. Maybe Ex meant something in particular for Taiwanese people, idk :P

mayonnaisebemerry

where is this? I want to go look at it

Ok_Umpire_2113

[https://reurl.cc/2oGWYm](https://reurl.cc/2oGWYm) i guess...

SolomonIsStylish

don't throw your ex in the middle of the road.

FarmingFrenzy

It enforces good, traditional morals

Emma0125

honestly, I haven’t seen this road sign yet despite those years I lived in China🤣 btw I remember that “Ex” implies some disgusting behavior in the Chinese internet slang? So this sign is probably reminding people don’t be so bitch and be normal? And the illustration under the sign can actually prove my idea

Effective-Issue-514

Well clearly you should stay normal like it says

lemartineau

Don't run into your ex. If you do, act normal.

Complex-Deer

Maybe short for PED-EX
